This is right on time! I just got one of these and I put it in front of my East Facing window. When you said that I was like, Woooo! Proud of myself for getting it right. Lol Great vid hope to see many more! 😊
That's really normal when they grow indoors. The light source is usually not right above them so they tend to droop as their leaves move to the window. Older leaves also just droop over time when new leaves are formed, pushing the older leaves out of the way. There is nothing wrong with it, but if you want them to be more upright, try propping the leaves up with with twine or other supports. You can also put a grow light right about the plant to encourage it to grow upwards. I also rotate mine often, especially while the leaves are growing to try to get them to stay as upright as possible. 🙂
Hey, when do I need to repot it? my plant is still a baby, but it has lots of roots around the pot as well as still popping out new leafs and babies ? I'd love to see it grow up to as big as your plant =)
when you notice a stunt of growth or leaves dying. Also when it seems to be too thirsty, meaning the soil dries out way faster than it should be drying out.
My tree philodendron is so spread out! It doesn't grow upright at all. Can I stake it? The new leaves are shiny and the plant is healthy but it has to be over 4ft wide! It's gorgeous, but I'm wondering if I am doing something wrong as far as it not growing upright. Any help would be appreciated! Love your videos!
Hi Tiffany! If you are propagating by pups, you should cut as close to the mother as possible. Use a sharp knife. The mother plant can take more abuse than the little pup. Just get right in between them and cut the pup off. If you are going via stem cuttings, just make sure you have at least one node on there, preferably more and then stick the stem cuttings in water or soil.
I received a small one of these as a gift. It only had two leaves and a third one started growing. The biggest leaf started turning yellow and droopy so I cut it off. A few weeks later the second leaf did the same. The new leaf unfurled but it’s so small. I’ve also noticed the root bulb hasn’t sprouted any roots. Any suggestions to help? 😢
Hi! I would be happy to help! It's hard for me to know why your plant is turning yellow without knowing more about the plant. Like, what type of light it gets, watering schedule, fertilizer, have you checked for pests.? We can talk on the comments here, or if you prefer, we can talk on Instagram @mind_the_leaves so you can send a pic.
No, unless you live in zone 9 or warmer. I live in zone 5 so there is no way this guy would survive the winter. You can always put it outside and then bring it in for the winter though.
With yellowing leaves it's likely not enough sunlight or it could need fertilizer. How much light does your plant get? When was the last time you gave it some fertilizer? I also have a video about the mistakes I have made with this plant and how I fixed them, it might be helpful. 💚
Hi Michelle! That so great! Actually these plants are pretty tough when it comes to drafts. As long as it doesn't get colder than 50 degrees, you should be fine.
Yes, most nurseries still use that name because it's one of the most commonly used and well known names. Even though it was reclassified years ago, I don't expect nurseries to change the name they are using, because that would only confuse their customers. 💚
Hi! Thaumatophyllums should ideally have very dark deep green leaves. As I discuss in my other video about this plant, mine was showing signs of clorosis, which is basically yellowing due to an iron deficiency. But leaves can yellow for other reasons, like lack of sunlight, pests, ect... 🙂
Hi!! I have one of these one of my customers gave me 22 years ago!!! I split it in two years ago and it needs it again. My wife will connect with you on Instagram.
Hahaha it's very technical. I would agree with you, yours has slightly deeper cut leaves than mine giving it a more delicate look. Definitely a "her"! 😂
Oooo ouch. Do any of the leaves still look good? If it's still alive it should eventually recover. They are tough plants. Give it bright indirect light and just let it grow some new leaves. 💙
@@mindtheleaves9914 yes it has 8 leaves with one almost all pale yellow and dry and one with slight pale yellow spots. the rest of the leaves look good and healthy and i brought it indoors immediately and put it by my humidifier for several hours. it seems to be fine now, but i haven’t cut off the damaged leaves. do you think i should? thank you for replying!
@@deemahamad7011 glad to hear it's doing better! I probably would pull the damaged leaves off depending on how bad they look, but you don't have to. I would definitely take the one with spots off though, just incase it's something that could spread.
Great program. Watching this program a few times already as recently purchased one that came across. THANK YOU. Great hostess of this Channel.

I JUST got one since this plant was a dream plant and this couldn’t have helped me more! :)
Thanks for making this video it was so useful
Which plant is to your left with different leaves
Mine has branches that droop over. They don’t stand upright like yours. Suggestions?

Any suggestions on pruning :-)

So this is not cold hardly for planting outdoors?

Mine has two out four trunks that I believe are dead. What do I do about these?
You can always repot your plant and cut away any parts that you think might be dead before you place it in its new pot.
Such a super sexy plant, I can't wait for mine to come. It has such a presence I love it. Great video.
Mine looks like yours and I'm concerned about the yellowing leaves. Does it need more light? Too much water? Why is it yellowing? :(

@@mariocean808 it's great that you repotted it. Hopefully the fresh soil will help.
I love my Thaumatophyllum.
Oh me too! I just can't get enough of those big tropical leaves!

I guess I need to buy a house now so that I can buy those big plants.
Hahaha!😂 That would definitely help! 💚💚💚
Can u propagate leaves
Not just a leaf alone, it would need at least a piece of the stem with a node on it in order to propagate. 🙂🌿
💕🌿🌿🌿
