    This place really needs to be protected and preserved. All the items in the shop are in fairly decent shape and someone needs to step up and take care of this property before it becomes vandalized. Thanks so much for sharing your incredible find!

    This old pharmacy with the residence attached reminds me of my grandparents' place. They moved into the house behind the general store/post office in the ghost town where my grandfather grew up. The owners had left the shelves and everything that hadn't sold in the front counter. Someone eventually stole the heavy, beautiful old cash register. We used to sneak jars of ancient cold cream, boxes of bandaids, and things like that to see what was inside. We felt like archaeologists.

  • @Owlzindabarn

    All I can figure is that maybe that old guy in the snapshot ran the pharmacy and when he died, his family shut down the business but continued to live upstairs for a few years.

    • @RhettyforHistory
      @RhettyforHistory 7 років тому +16

      Owlzindabarn I think you're right! Was the person that was with Rob and Christy a descendant of the Pharmacist? He was showing them a lot and seemed to know where things were. Clearly it's been locked up and they had to get access.

    • @MrTurbowhitey

      Snapshot Grandpa was probably the owner, I agree on that point. I see it more, Grandpa closed the pharmacy in 78, but lived up stairs. The toys belonged to his grandchildren. Grandpa kicks the bucket, and the family doesn't know what to do with the house, so they just close it up.

      I was able to find out the location of the place and did some research. Apparently this entire street is now deserted. It was once a prosperous tourist destination, before the shutdown of a certain railroad and the long decline of a company that took their toll. Later, in the 1990s "" enjoyed a brief revival, led by the owners of the now-shuttered cafe. A massive construction project to re-route Route "" which for years ran right down the middle of the once beautiful city has been rough on the businesses. This place is apparently open to other urban explorers, another UE took some beautifully eerie photos. Still there is no back story on the owner of this store.

    *Phenaphen* was a headache medication that can be toxic to the liver. It was closely related to Tylenol, acetaminophen. *Donnatal* was an atropine (belladonna) often mixed with an opiate like codeine for diarrhea. *Dymelor* was a diabetes medication, it has been also discontinued as more effective medications were discovered. *Haldrone* is a corticosteroid used for skin problems, mostly. *Diamox* was used for altitude sickness, glaucoma and as a diuretic, to treat congestive heart failure was used to treat certain types of seizures.
    *Hispril* is an anti-colinergic, similar to belladonna, Hispril is a controlled substance as it has some addictive and euphoric properties in some cases.*Stelazine* was used for psychiatric problems, usually psychosis, but it was used for other things like OCD, before medicine realized what OCD actually was. (It isn't a psychiatric issue, it's a problem with neurotransmitters and possibly brain function.)
    *Witch Hazel* is an antiseptic and an astringent. It is used for everything from acne to hemorrhoids to treating women's perineum after childbirth.
    *Calamine lotion* is made from a type of clay. When the liquid it is mixed with evaporates, you are left with the clay. It is used for skin irritations from poison ivy to eczema to chicken pox sores.
    I couldn't read all the drug names, because the camera was panned too fast. It's weird, because some of those drugs were controlled substances and the DEA requires that pharmacies return or destroy all drugs if they go out of business. I'm a health care provider and love to look at old pharmaceuticals. I would have been geeking out there!
    That apartment was beyond freaky. Lots of different ages of kids. I wonder if it was a foster home. But, with all those drugs only a few steps away? Yikes.

    I would bet that the pharmacy closed in 1976 but they continued to toss newer things in there just sort of a storage like thing. There were some old pharmaceuticals that are no longer used in there and some of them they have changed the ingredients. Others of them are still being used and are exactly the same. I'm sure some collectors and museums would love to have those items as they were in great shape! Enjoyed this video a lot!

      L. Ron Hubbard died with hydroxyzine in his system; Mr. anti-psychiatry. Hydroxyzine is used all day everyday in psychiatry. It's just an antihistamine, and it's junk, but they still insist on its use. Some patients love it. We typically just use the Vistaril version, which is a different salt base (hydroxyzine pamoate).

      I don't mind the music being 'depressing/creepy', although in my view its not depressing at all and not that creepy either. It's called creating an atmosphere and when done properly gives depth to the video. I think Dan Bell is a genius at using music this way, his videos are so atmospheric that they make you feel like you're right there with him in whatever abandoned building hes in - it's incredible! However I don't think that Rnk are on the same level as Dan Bell.

    This could be cleaned up and restored and kept as a museum. It's a time warp. Not so very long ago but each passing day makes the record of "A Neighborhood Drugstore and Pharmacy of the 1970's". Btw, I graduated from high school in 1970 and when the guy held up the condom in its package I flashed back that in those high school years, as minors we couldn't easily buy those things! A person had to ask for them and in a small town like I grew up in, you ran the risk that the pharmacist or the busy body old clerk might know your parents and TELL THEM! Astounding in the crazy 60's and 70's! Oh, and a girl pretty much never asked for them. Ahhh, the good old days--not!

At one point we got rid of alot of the older stuff that they no longer used (no drugs) and I still have them almost 40 years later and yes they are some very rare kinda almost like what you'd consider "museum" material kinda things.

    Sodium fluoride- kills pests (but it's perfectly safe in your municipal water supply!)

    • @foomanchu7414
      @foomanchu7414 7 років тому +12

      Exactly!! Man humans are really dumb sometimes. That caught my eye. The city workers say there is,skull and crossbones on the bags that are for municipal water systems. Our city just started the removal of it from our water thank God.

    • @Leftfishpig
      @Leftfishpig 7 років тому +7

      I had to rewatch the portion of the video several times just to make absolutely sure that I wasn't imagining it. My grandfather worked for a municipal water supply way back in the day. According to my father, they didn't inform anyone in the city that they were adding fluoride until a few weeks after the program began.
      Also, if you ingest the fluoride in your toothpaste, call a poison control center immediately. If you drink fluoridated water, however, everything is just peachy.

News and TV and commercials are literally brain washing tools...i remember in kindergarden they were passing this liquid fluoride out to the students...we would literally stop eveything we were doing for fluoride time.....i never took mine....there was just something strange to me even as a child watching the whole class swishing this nasty shit around in their mouths for 3min silently like brain dead sheep...i never participated past the first taste and spit it out all over the table

    I love all the explanations for witch hazel. Witch hazel is used for many, many thing, it's a very gentle but effective astringent, essentially. And can be used in any numbers of ways to that effect. I always keep a huge bottle of it and use it as a daily toner for my fave. It's really good at cutting down excess sebum on your fave and tight I g and shrinking pores without drying you out. But that's from a girl's perspective. Like I said, it can be used so many, many ways.

No big chain Pharmacies around back then, Pharmacist used to have to mix most of the medications themselves. I'm surprised that it didn't have a Soda bar in there. All the ones from back then we used to visit always had a counter where you could sit down and have a fountain soda or Ice cream. What an interesting place though. I can't believe so much stuff was still there. Great find guys. I really enjoyed that one. Excellent videography as well.

    Tedral is Phenobarbital, and there are reviews online of old people using it 50 years after the expiration date just a few years ago in 2013. Looked like they left hundreds in different strengths. A handful of different pre-benzo sedatives and tranquilizers popped up like Nordal for sleep. Syntronal also has phenobarbital mixed with another medicine as a sedative-antispasmodic.

      Paul A Oh to Hell with that!! That's one of the things that always bugs me about so many of these exploring channels and videos. They never tell you where the location is, like it's some big secret that only THEY can know about and be trusted with. Usually explorers won't even share how they themselves came to know about a place. But then again, the answer to that question is obvious.....they heard about it from someone else!
      I find these exploring channels more frustrating all the time. Most are just a big tease, giving enough info to answer 2 or 3 of my 500 questions. And many are becoming downright elitist, and have financial backing, travel sponsors, retail products for sale etc....yecckk.. When it becomes a business with marketing etc it has lost all the spirit that is unique to Urban/abandoned Exploration.
      And for gods sake guys, just tell us where the F**king places are. It's not a Top Secret Military Location.... it's a goddamn abandoned property!
