This non 3 way split original version was also used the very first time that UK Gold did a run through of Dallas in the UK so it was seen on TV screens in the UK in 1992
As this says, this version NEVER aired on CBS, the one on the DVD was the one they used for the mini series. Originally it was just supposed to be 5 shows and that was it. By the time the 5th episode aired, it was in the top 10, much more impressive in 1978 than now, and CBS ordered a season 1. The owner of the original ranch declined to keep using the ranch house and they found the 2nd Southfork in Parker, about 30 miles to the southeast of this one. The original house burned down in 1987 thanks to an accident by workers doing a remodel and started to rebuild, but the owner died and only had the frame built, which to this day, is still standing.
Actually, it was broadcast; but only in 1978 on CBS for the first five episodes and on international versions of "Dallas" as well. The reason for the switch was because they producers had to change mansions because the original owners of the first one (the one shown in the video) decided they didn't want a film crew hanging around all the time; so the producers moved to the second one we all know. The original (shown in the video) burned down in 1987; but was rebuilt in 2006 in Frisco, Texas with new owners unrelated to the original show.
The change of ranch doesn't explain why the opening of the mini-series was changed. The opening that replaced it on those episodes also shows the original ranch.
@@jckhammer If you say so, but I watched the five episodes in April, 1978 on CBS and this is how they opened. On DVD's and subsequent reruns, the more familiar intro was used.
It was seen by many, if you around in 1978!
