In this video I show you how to export or render video in Adobe After Effects CS3, CS4. Its not as easy as it might seem and is unintuitive compared to some video software. Usually you tend to go for File - export but with After Effects you Render the video rather than import it. This is because of the animation and 3D effects that are used in After Effects.

this is why i love UA-cam tutorials instead of googling for answers. the drama is just 'not there'. thank you SO much.

this is the sexiest AfterFx tutorial i've seen so far... u should make more more in tht voice xD
very much appreciated, I was unable to output my first after effects project to a rendered video until I watched this video.
This tutorial was very helpful and it isn't as long as everyone says it is. 5 minutes guys, that's not too bad.
Thank you very much, you can't figure that out of common sense in just a small amount of time, so this has helped a lot
Thank you so much, just got it yesterday and nearly cried trying to figure out how to export my test video.

Wow THANK YOU! Great lesson, thanks. I do have a side question, HOW do you do that text magnifying effect to show what menu and other buttons etc you are working with?
THANKYOU I spent 3hours trying to find out how to render

"tu rendaa"
hey mate, just wondering if you could help? when i go to render out a 6 minute video i gets about half way and then comes up with a message saying 'after effects error-unable to allocate space for a 4000x3000 image buffer' and when i change settings it still comes up with the same message. any help would be great
nice tutorial man! I now know how to make love to Adobe...lol
you just saved my life. thanks guy
Like add one at the end of another? Make another composition, drag in the first one, then drag in the second one and move to the end of the time line :D
in fact if you want them side by side or how ever you want to combine them you can probably do it by making a 3rd composition and dragging the first 2 comps in that one then export the 3rd comp :D
Appreciated. It really helped.
UA-cam has granted me immunity.
lol, I heart you
thanks for the video. since i've been exporting my videos and view them it slows down and stops all the time while playing the video, just wondering if you know anything i can do to stop that happening?
thank you very much :) I wouldn't never discovered that :)
Thanks Dude! Helped A Lot!!!
So relieved! Thanx so much!
You made my day. Thanks!
My pleasure! :D
And guys, if you found this useful don't forget to rate! :P

@ACECinemaX be sure youve got the render checkbox checked off in the render tab for the movie your rendering if that makes sense? it doesnt come automatically checked off so while the movie is in the render que its not selected for rendering
How can I get it HD Quality, clearly and smoothly ? please I export as AVI 1080 but I get bad quality.

Hi! I'm making a movie with my friend, and I've done all my editing in premiere and added effects in After Effects. Then, when I render as an .avi, I get some test image throughout the whole movie! Any tips?
Thanks!
Explosions you say? I have been known to dabble with explosions but I haven't had much time recently to make any tutorials. If I get chance to make another I'll see if I can look at some explosions :3
I liked how you talked to us like little kids, made the video more entertaining, haha.
Thanks man. Really helpful.
I'm not sure what your trying to do, but I'm guessing you have multiple video files in your project. Do you defiantly have them in the same composition? When you render it only renders the composition you have selected so if you select one video in one composition it will not render the other video in the other composition unless both videos are in the same composition. ^^
hahah love this guys attitude
this was really helpful thank you.
I'm thinking of getting Final cut studio or After effects, and I wonder if you NEED adobe premiere? I'm thinking of editing in final cut express. (Which I already have).
PLZ answer!
/Erik
thx exactly what i needed
hi, thanks so much for this video (rated 5*****) im pretty new to after effects so you have taught me a lot however when i go to render when the final video comes out i still have this big red x going across the video ?? dunno wether its something to do with taking layer options of or what ?? but if you could help that woue great - its probably really simple i just havent got it yet ! thanks mate !
@DjMaggey if you click File > export you wont get any video formats because you have to render it. Once you follow the tutorial and get to the "Lossless" that should provide you with the different video formats. If it's not there then maybe the codec isn't installed properly? Thats the only thing I can think of sorry :/
Hi, I'm having a problem. I imported an AVI clip into After Effects, added keyframes to the scale to simulate camera zoom, then used the Smoother to make it look more natural, then exported the comp to an AVI again. The comp plays fine in After Effects but is poor when I import it into Premiere, so I'm thinking it has something to do with the way I'm exporting it? The frame rate is 25fps, and I export to DV Pal. Can you suggest something to help me out please? Cheers :-)
when i use the keylight to key out my greenscreen i add it to render que and render it but when its done it does not have any sound please help
hey... whitch format is the best for windows 7? after render, the video never opens! help please
Thank You! Very helpful!
@Lost22Heart export it as mp4, to compress it in much lower quality but much less capacity than a quicktime vid or avi extension file
Thank Bro.
GREAT VIDEO,
thanks for the useful infos
Thank you! it's my pleasure :D
Useful video Thank you for posting.
@razorbackriff I'm guessing it's because your HDD is full? Or maybe you don't have enough RAM? I'd try clearing some space on your hard disk and making sure you aren't running any other programs at the same time ^_^
My version doesn't give me the option to change the framerate.. is that a good thing?
when I watch it the audio just cuts out in the middle of the video
This is awesome thanks Dude
when ever i render my project, the final video come out super laggy and messed up. so i tried rendering it in many different formats wav, video for windows, and quicktime but my video just keeps coming ou to be very laggy. what can i do to fix this problem?

Thank you so much man!
@cbt121314 Are you using any 3rd party or demo plug ins? They might cause a water mark type effect which maybe causes the green screen?
Or did you render a video of a green square? ^_^
Hi thanks for the tips :D
I have recorded an hour and 30 min long video with my HD webcam (1280x720), and the file size is like 2 gigs.
I followed your youtube tutorial and the file size was 300 megs for one minute. omg...Is that right?
I rerendered it the same way, except with Medium Quality and visually, I don't see any difference at all, except the file size went down to 64 megs.
So should I just do it with Medium Quality? Also, are HD vids supposed to be like 300M per minute? xD
how do you change the dimensions? its defaulted to 720x480. i want to change it to 1280x720 for youtube HD. how do i do this?
thanx man you helped
thanks, help starters like me alot :)
@ACECinemaX No, you just click the box before the .mov file or whatever os it... sry for my eng.. :S
When I click Render, that loading bar flashes for 0.5 seconds and nothing Happens. In the render queue I see "Failed at 0;00;00; "
I don't think the machine can't handle it, I have a pretty high-end PC. Any help?
I got a problem, im rendering a video HD about 1 minute long and my file size is 15GB in .MOV format. But yesterday i rendered the same video and it was 530MB? What did i do wrong?
I saved it to my desktop but imovies won't let me import it. Any suggestions?
What if I don't use QuickTime? What should I do to render it without QuickTime?
