- In this web exclusive, contemporary cinema's preeminent monster-lover, Guillermo del Toro (Cronos, The Devil's Backbone), talks to Criterion about his passion for Ishiro Honda's original mega-beast movie Godzilla.
GODZILLA is out now on Criterion Blu-ray and DVD: www.criterion.com/films/27755-... - Фільми й анімація
Guillermo Del Toro should direct a Godzilla movie.
d34dj0k3r that would be awesome
He was gonna do 2014, but he was busy with Pacific Rim. Here's to hoping that he'll direct one in the future, I'm a huge fan of him and Godzilla.
I would personally want him to do a War of the Gargantuas movie, since that and Frankenstein Conquers the World were the two movies that inspired him the most to make Pacific Rim. If it starred Brad Pitt that would also be awesome since he credited War of the Gargantuas as what got him into movies.
@@Mr_Movie_Fanyeah and how about an ultraman movie?
@@daikaijugigabowser7873 bullshit
I'm glad that Del Toro has respect and admiration for the King of Monsters! After all, Godzilla and his giant monster battles against opponents like King Ghidorah, Mecha-Godzilla, and Destroyah set the foundation for epic films like PACIFIC RIM.
Mr. Honda and Mr. del Toro are 2 of my favorite movie directors :).
While I think that Guillermo del Toro would have been one of the best choices in directing the second Godzilla movie in the MonsterVerse, not to mention that I think that he should have been involved in the first Godzilla movie with Gareth Edwards as a executive producer or co-screenwriter, I think that it would be best if he directed a remake of one of Toho's underrated 'kaiju' like Rodan or Mothra.
Guillermo has seen everything.
You kinda feel annoyed if there is a famous people talking about films documentary and he doesn’t turn up
Seeing Godzilla for the first time when I was sick in the hospital at the age of 6 made me become a filmmaker.
He's my dream director for a Godzilla vs Gamera movie in the MonsterVerse , I know it's not going to happen but it's still a dream
Godzilla inspired me to become an artist!
A Godzilla movie from Del Toro would be so epic. Pacific Rim will probably be the closest he ever gets to making one, though.
I want to see him do a Godzilla movie
Watching Godzilla on Criterion right now!
Just so we are all in agreement, (because I have met a few... "Stubborn" people who do not agree with me.) I hope that you all realise that ANY amount of jaegars, 10, 40, 300. Would all perish to Godzilla for he is literally invincible weaponwise, the foes he has faced out class any jaegar or kaiju that exists or could exist. And none of the jaegars have weapons that could even phase him. His atomic breath would destroy them to their core. That goes for the kaiju as well. King of the monsters is all I have to say.
***** Godzilla had Desteroyah on the retreat and the military killed him before Godzilla could, Mothra would rip the Jeagers apart, Angirus would bulldoze them, Titanosaurus would scream and create a soundwave that would kill the pilots, Jeagers would get wrecked by 90% of the kaijuverse
and if I am correct, godzilla weights like 10 times more than any jaeger in the movies ( jaegers are like 8000 tons I think, and godzilla is like even 50.000 tons)
@@kingdomhearts31000 even more now he weighs 99.000
Eva star unit 73 that’s almost double as much, the jeager’s won’t be able to even push him 😂
@@kingdomhearts31000 and mega kaiju is just 7000+ plus tons even though he's bigger than godzilla so he could literally just throw mega kaiju
Man I wish I could go 10 years in the past and be a 4 or 5 year old again
I've been watching Godzilla since I was five
It would be awesome if in the Pacific Rim sequel, Godzilla suddenly shows up and saves the Jaegers from the Alien Kaiju.
hahahahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I wish
The Pacific Rim uprising director (forgot his name) was actually planning to do that, but due to PR Uprising, it's not happening
The weird thing that I find in films is that people I mean human beings are generally much scarier than monsters. And I guess that applies in real life also
The 1998 one got me into the Godzilla franchise so that's why I support the movie. Sure it looks like shit now (Except for the design) but I still have respect for it.
Allow me to offer a counterpoint.
In the video, Del Toro says he loves monsters and monster movies. Obviously, considering Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, and most of his films.
Pacific Rim was Del Toro's love letter to monster films and their directors. Sometimes, we just want to have fun at the cinema, and Pacific Rim did just that. It's a monster film, not some deep Oscar winner. Did you walk into Pacific Rim expecting riveting dialogue and a heartwarming story? No, you went in to see monsters.
Guillermo Del Toro for a MonsterVerse's Destroy All Monsters movie
Main Kaiju Cast:
Godzilla
Mothra
King Kong
Gamera
Destoroyah
Side Cameo Kaijus:
Anguirus
Rodan
Behemoth
Scylla
Methuselah
I respect your opinion but for me anguirus should be on the list not mothra
@@funkylilguy I like Anguirus, but Mothra to me is the best part of the MonsterVerse. I have no idea what you're talking about, I would replace Rodan for Anguirus
@@SPGojiFan i respect your opinion
Mothra was cool, Time to move on. We haven't seen anguris yet so I would rather have him make his cameo instead of mothra. But I respect your opinion.
The older generation of Hollywood filmmakers had hard feelings toward Godzilla, particularily Harryhausen.
….not that there's anything wrong with that.
@@paulb111 I'm just wondering what people like Del Toro could see, but not others.
Wait. I didn't know Zone Fighter was broadcasted in Mexico. They got Kinnikuman and Zone Fighter GOD DAMNIT.
I never heard about that. I DID hear about him greatly disliking "Jack the Giant Killer" for creating a giant very similar to his iconic cyclops.
Rodan is my favorite character
insert choir of singing girls
What if Godzilla meet Pacific rim
They were suppose to, but 'Hollywood' fumble that ball like many others.
@@eddyblanco7210 what if Transformers meet Thunder Cats
@@mohdimansaifullizan6193 That's G.I. Joe. Transformers and G.I. Joe.
@@eddyblanco7210 i know just kidding is just hasbro😁😆
Godzilla rocks and is so amazing
He makes a good point. How many monster movies do you see where you like the monster even though he's kills so many innocent people?
man that head statue is freaking me out.
Pacific Rim is GLORIOUS!!
I didn't even noticed it the first time, but when I read your comment... I CRAPPED BRICKS!
guillermo make another kaiju movie pleaseee
He was "shattered" The Incredible Shrinking Man? Lol that's kinda funny
Srinking man affected me too Bud.
wait wait wait. How is Pacific Rim a "homage" to anime of the late 70s/early 80s. That was the era when Giant Robot animes begin to change hell Mobile Suit Gundam the first Real Robot series came out in 1979. Now the Late 60s to the mid 70s. And don't tell me the Robots in Pacific Rim are Real Robots because because there far too big, they work on your mental state, there fighting aliens not a war zone, the science isn't a focus point & the design are more getter robo then gundam.
that fucking statue in the back....Christ
I am so bad.
You're welcome.
like every other movie out now which are remakes/reboots and comic/books adaptions non them are original, pacific rim was more a love letter then your typical action big star actor movie.pacifc rim was fun not oscar worthy just pure entertainment from start to finish.
“When I see a monster movie, I want to see the monster”. That’s a quote from an academy award winning director.
Critics disliking Godzilla King of the Monsters because too much monster and not enough in human. I’d always respect the opinions of critics when I comes to films, but this was a complete joke. Dumbest reviews ever
Lazy??? Have you seen the visuals? It's anything but lazy! Del Toro painstakingly made every effort to make sure this would be a fitting homage to the late-70s/early-80s anime flicks. You can criticize the acting or the way it was directed; but, you don't have the right to say it was lazy work.
wonder what he has to say about the movies after the first, heh
