When I was probably four I got a rag doll for Christmas, which I still have. I never went anywhere for long without her. Since I chewed on her hands I always needed someone to repair her fingertips. Eventually, at about seven, I was told I had to do it myself. So I learned to thread a needle, tie the knot, and do the stitches. Those bumpy stitches are still there and I'm 71. By the time I was eight I had a kit with a little doll and precut outfits which I often took to school with me and spent my recess sitting on the playground sewing with needle and thread. That was my idea of a fun time. Love your videos.
My Dad bought my mom a Necchi back in 1955 (I still have it). Mom didn't like to sew but my dad was an aircraft mechanic/restorer/inspector and he had upholstery experience. He made a slipcover for my headboard out of pink vinyl with gold haystack on it (I studied it for hours). He also made a upholstery cover with cording for the sewing machine cabinet, I studied that too. I was probably 4 years old when he made them. Your little granddaughter Josephine will remember these projects, done with you, until she is my age....66! Thanks for all your great videos...see you on the Sew Yeah channel.
I love scrap quilts. My first memory of sewing was when i was in 2nd grade. My mom got a test sewing machine from a salesman, and she made me the cutest dress. Mom had never sewn before. I still don't know what she did, but we could barely get the dress over my skinny little shoulders. We finally got it on, and I loved it. It was a disaster getting it back off and Mom threw the dress away and gave the sewing ma hine back to the salesman. But it gave me an early incentive to learn how to sew, and I did. I still enjoy sewing to this day, but quilting is a relatively new experience for me.
My first sewing memory was sitting under my mother’s sewing machine while she was sewing for me. She had given me a square of fabric and a silver straight pin and I was taking that square apart one thread at a time! Like Pamela Hill, my first sewing experiences were high school, over 50 years ago. I made a whole outfit for myself as well, I was so tickled that I made my own children's holiday clothing every year and then I was introduced to quilting by my MIL who taught me and I loved it. Though I've definitely gained a lot of knowledge here... we use to tack quilts. It was the only way back in that day to get it done. Now, there are SO many options! I watch Angela Walters too, she's an awesome teacher. I've really enjoyed your videos and especially that sweet little grand baby. 🥰
My first experience with sewing was was about 72 years ago. I was at my Grandmother's house. My little cousin was here from Boston. We lived in south Mississippi. Our grandmother gave us little squares of fabric with a needle and thread. It was such fun. It looked terrible but it started a love for quilting that has never died.
I grew up watching my mom and her best friend make dresses for hire. It was a business so I watched from a distance. At age 15 I made a “pant suit” from green gingham seersucker! I was hooked and very proud. I have had many mentors along my sewing journey and I learned from each one. Today my daughter and I have a small quilt shop. I hand pick the binding on quilts for customers. Love your channel!
My 1st sewing memory is when I was about 5 years old I asked my mother how buttons got on clothes,She sewed on a button to show me. When I was about 9 I was sewing on a scrap of fabric ,I guess I was just practicing. My baby sister Started screaming. She had a needle stuck in her knee. I was blamed for it. My parents took her to the hospital. The needle was bent and it was working it's way out. It came out of her knee pretty easily,thank goodness. One of my sister's and I played with our great grandmothers singer treadle sewing machine when we were about 5/6 years old. I have many other sewing stories.

Grams, she even embroidery by hand, uffta my hands ack at the thought, that was her gift, she was good, I still hv a few of her itemsshe made Me!! I loved watching her, I didn't hv the leg or ankle strength too pump her foot peddle, Grams told Me I will grow too lov her machine, I replied hope not... she taught Me hand stitch, and Embroidery oh I couldn't get enough ❤😊 Been over 20+ years I gave all my sewing stuff away, I can not get over how much it all cost today, I will purchase just checking on which machine I really want too focus and purchase... My first sewing experience was in home ec. That was over 50 + years ago, I wish I could remember my teachers name, she was magnificent. She was very particular on procedures that she taught. I learned soooo much from her and fell in love with sewing. I never had a sewing machine to continue my sewing on until I had a daughter. I made her clothes and several special dresses as she grew. Then 40 years passed, I got the itch to sew again. I self taught myself quilting by watching you tube. It was instant love again. Each lesson I have learned something. By this time in my life I am retired and live on Social Security. Boy has material shoot up in price! Now I have the problem of affording material. But I still love sewing.
I started sewing barbie doll clothes at age 6. My Mom sewed and I asked her for a pattern to make my doll some clothes. She got one for me and didnt want to waste her good fabric, so she gave me a big piece of a sheet. Well it was white and I wanted some colors, so I asked if I could use some left over easter egg dye and dye my fabric. She helped me rip my fabric into 6 pieces and we dyed them. I think she was surprised at my interest. I made the clothes with her help, sewing by hand and fell in love. At age 9 or so she taught me to embroider because I asked to learn as I watched her. And I made my 1st quilt at age 11. A string quilt. I thought it was so cool to sew on the pieces of paper. She quilted it of coarse. Alot of good memories with my Mom.
My first experience sewing was when I was 10…..my mom had bought a new Singer and at that time 1950 sewing lessons were offered with the purchase, so she sent me and I’ve been sewing ever since, bless her, I am now 82

I was about 6 years old. My mom taught me how to hand sew 2.5 inch squares into a doll crib quilt. I was hooked, the most awesome jigsaw puzzle!! Around age 8 she taught me to machine sew quilts. She taught me to tie them. I want to say, You rock! Love your real person teaching. I recently found your channel and have been binge watching. Keep up the great work!!!
I was 12 y.o. when Barbie Doll arrive in this world. But there was no clothing to go with her! So, I learned how to see princess dresses etc. And at 15 y.o., I did my first dress. And always sew all my life. I am 71 y.o.!!

I was 4yrs old sitting under the quilt frame my grandma and her 3 sisters sat on wooded stools around the frame. I watched as the needles came in and out. It was also my first paying job. All 4 ladies were quite hefty and whenever they dropped anything I handed it back and I got a penny. I’m 75 and that experience gave me a love of fabric and that gift was the beginning of a lifelong relationship with quilting. For the past 50 years I have made more quilts than I count, for every birth, birthdays, baptisms, marriages, and stacks of small size for the children involved in auto accidents who weren’t injured. My fireman and deputies kept them in their vehicles. Was such a satisfying experience. Fabrics are my therapy. Thank you for your shows.
When I was 5 years old my mom taught me to embroider. As a child and a young teen I did needlepoint and perfected my embroidery. I ended up going to fashion school at my mom's urging where I sewed clothes for many years. When my dear m other passed away I stopped sewing. I couldn't go near my sewing machine without bursting into tears. My mom was my biggest fan. A few years passed and I found a DIY on TV and saw a quilting show. I fell in love with quilting and I have been quilting since 2003. I make quilts, bags and recently I started sewing clothes for my granddaughters and for me. My 5 year old granddaughter is now getting sewing lessons from me.
Beautiful granddaughter! Important memories being made. Love the tutorial! My mother used to made all of our clothes, four girls and one boy stuck in the middle. There were flour sack outfits for the little girls summer play clothes someone would give her. There were loads of hand me downs she would rework so they fit me that once belonged to an older cousin. I learned to so on my mother’s black, straight stitch Singer when making y first 4-H skirt. I think that was 3 yards all the way around the hem. If I got a stitch off she made me rip it out and start the entire 3 yard hem again. I don’t recommend having you 8 or 9 year old to do this as they might be like me and say things like “ I hate to sew”! “I will never sew!” “When I grow up I am going to buy all my clothing at a store!” I now own 7 sewing machines & serger. Included in the machines is a treadle machine, an old black Singer, and a Dream Machine. Lol, joke turns out was on me!!
Your quilt turned out very pretty. I love the fabric that you used for the binding. I want some of it. Baby Josephine is really cute. Maybe you could put a highchair next to you and put her in it and give her some scraps to play with. She could hand them to you while you crumb quilt. She would probably have a good time doing that. I want to teach the little ones in my family how to sew and quilt. I have a 9 year old nephew and a 2 year old niece and a 5 year old great niece. I plan on teaching all of them.

My first sewing experience was at age 10. I loved fabric and collected scraps from different people. My grandmother saw me trying to hand stitch fabric scraps into dolls clothes and she gave me her knee operated Singer and showed me how to use it. I made dolls clothes and rag dolls and did hems and mending. I remade some of my mother's skirts to fit me. When I was 14 my mother paid for a sewing course, two hours a day on five days. That was the first time I bought fabric and a pattern. I made a horrible apricot dress with huge puffed sleeves and I never wore it. But I have made all my clothes since then and I am almost 75 now. I do not use patterns anymore - I prefer to design as I go and my clothes are usually loose and casual. I still love fabric. When I was having babies I made quilts and patchwork quilt covers for the family and some for sale, but had to put quilting aside for about 30 years while the family was growing and I was working. In those years I made stage costumes, and sets and props and curtains, mini quilts and patchwork cushions. Now I have 5 grandchildren, a grandson in law and 1 great grandson and I am making quilts for them all. Crazy, colourful, fun quilts - I don't do pattens. Only two more to go and those will be string quilts for sisters. I am going to attempt quilt as you go because quilting a big piece is just too much for me now I am looking foward to learning this new technique. I will look at your pool noodles tomorrow.
My grandfather was a quilter. He sewed all by hand. I loved to watch, he threaded tons of needles and they were put in pin cushions all in a row so it looked like a curtain. My mother was a seamstress and had her own business. She sat me down at age 6 and taught me to sew. I have never looked back. I had three sisters, we all know how to sew and do in our own way.
My mother made my dresses, so to save her time, she taught my to do the hemming. So once. I learned Hemming, I went to embroidery and from there as time came and went, I took homeck in school and next came making my clothes. Got married and started making garments for they family. I even made matching western shirts for my husband and myself. If anything had thread involved I did it. Thank you for your videos.
I started sewing by making dresses for my dolls. I was about 11 years. Then start to make my own clothes from early high school. From there always making something. All my daughters clothes and now lots of things for my grand kids. Started quilting about ten years ago. Love it!
When I was in the fourth grade my grandmother said I was too old to play with Barbie dolls. Instead of playing with my Barbie dolls I began to make them clothing sewn by hand. Later after my children were born I began to learn to sew with a sewing machine. I bought a combination sewing machine / embroidery machine a began to to quilt. I love crazy patchwork quilting!

My earliest sewing memory was in junior high in home ec class. My mother was a seamstress by trade and when I would bring my project home to work on it, she would make me rip it out and do it over and over until it was right. This actually deterred me from most sewing for years. I didn't quilt until all my kids were grown and out of the house. During their growing up, I did sew some of their clothes, in fact I made my then 6 year old daughter a dress with apron, completely with hand sewing as I did not have a sewing machine at the time.
What a beautiful little girl, hope she fallows in Grans shoes....Thank you for putting up these video's, I took up quilting in my 60's ,then hubby took ill & I had to look after him & had no time for quilting. , after he passed I had no desire anymore, for a few months I did get back into it but it just didn't feel he same. . 2 years ago I moved to a senior apt; complex & last Sept another lady was looking for someone to quilt with, I joined her & we made 12 quilts for a special project & I've doing some for myself. now I have to urge to quilt again. in my middle 80's thank you for your great video's .I'm learning a lot that I had forgotten; how to do some things .
I learned hand sewing from my mother from about the age of six, using embroidery needles and looseweave sacking, etc, and by 12, I was sewing rag dolls, and the clothes, with scraps from my mother's Bit Bin, and sewing my teenage pals bras to fit properly. I hand sewed a small lap quilt with hexagons for my grandmother, but I didn't start using a machine til about 16 on an old motorised singer, and made quite a few projects. Then life sort of got in the way when I married and was working a lot. When I started having my children, I was given a second hand sewing machine by a lady I used to shop for, and I made a proper quilt for my first daughter when I was 26...I still have it 32 years later.
My first experience was in Home Economics…..wow our teacher had no patience with many of us and spent most of her time with the star students. She told me that her 8 yr old granddaughter could sew better than me. But I picked it up again when I was married and had 2 daughters. I made lots of summer dresses for them and so enjoyed the process. ( my momma made many clothes for me growing up.) As our girls got older I stopped sewing until I made my 1$ quilt by hand. 2023 will have me making my first scrappy quilt. Can’t wait, but first I have to heal from shoulder surgery.😊
My earliest sewing memory is making dolly clothes with my mum probably about 4 or 5yrs old, my earliest quilting memory is trying to teach myself patchwork ages about 13yrs that piece is now a full size quilt cover all hand stitched onto an old sheet crazy quilt style. It took me about 30 years off and on to finish it completely so I could use it. I’m still working on it occasionally to repair the worn out embroidery silks I used and patch the wear holes with new fabric. It’s packed with memories with scraps from my childhood clothes that my mum made to scraps from clothes I made for my own children. It’s about 50 years since I started it and the colours fade a little more with each wash but I still smile when I put it on the bed.
I remember the elderly lady that babysat me when I was 3 years old. She would hand baste all her dresses together before she sewed them together. My job was ripping out the basting stitches. Then she would have the ladies over and they would sit around the quilting frame hand quilting quilts. I am reminded of those days often and wish I was more attentive.
My earliest experience in sewing is when I was in high school I took sewing classes and my teacher helped me make my whole outfit that I got my senior pictures taken in and I was so proud because you see we were pretty poor and the only way I got to buy the fabric and do it was because it was for my class project. I still look at that picture with pride.

I made my first dress in Home Ec, when I was a freshman in 1969. I didn't like sewing, even though I was very proud of the dress. I didn't sew again until about 8 years ago. I started quilting. Now it's my favorite hobby.
I have been sewing for 50 years.i have sew doll clothes, my clothes, my first quilt I sew and hand quilt was 19 years ago.the pass 3 years I have a lot of Guniea Pigs Midwest Blanket Cage liners. and tunnels, cuddles sack, peedpads. but now I got back in to sew quilting blocks. I have a lot of left over scared fleece to made a 9 patch quilt .I love sewing.thank you ❤

I really didn’t do much practice, basically I began quilting on my quilts. I think a larger surface to quilt on improves muscle memory pretty fast. I know you’ll keep up the good work. At 4 yeas old, I’d seen my mom sewing for hours. I wanted to sew! When she went outside to hang out clothes, I sat at the sewing with a piece of cloth, pushes it through the place where the needle was stitching. Look, I’m sewing! BUT my middle finger was in the way and the needle went through it. Yelping, I jerked my finger away. Needle was still in it. Mom came in and cared for my injured finger. No fussing just tender care and chuckles later. . She did let me push cloth though very slowly every once in a while after that.
Josephine is adorable!!! She is perfect and I am sure she will love being in mimi's sewing room. I have 9 grandchildren and they loved going to the craft room and grabbing a seat and always asking Grammy what are we gonna craft today??the boys or girls didnt matter, they all loved coming to grammy and pa's house and helping Pa out side and Grammy in her crafting room after a bath and dinner. my fondest memories of my darling grandchildren. By the way my kids were the same way lets help Mom out in her craft room. the quilt is great!! I am inspired by how you give me some idea to think about and try out. God Bless
My mom started her sewing business on a Treadle Sewing Machine, years and years ago...I fell asleep listening to the whirr of it, as she sewed in her bedroom across the hall from mine; I started to learn to sew on her treadle making Barbie clothes...then started to sew in HomeEc in Grade 8; I stopped after Gr. 12 Home Ec...but then started to quilt in 2000 when I had young children of my own...still quilting!
When I was ten, my Grandmother placed a shoe box with cotton squares between us and showed me how to hand piece them. Grandma always had a quilt frame setup, and the fabric was left over from the clothes, aprons, curtains she made. Quilting is now my passion, and I still have quilts my Gran made. Carol
That is a good idea, to do the freemotion quilting on a wide border !! It saves you from the hardest thing (i think) in FMQ, the bulk under the throat of the machine. Thanks Tracey. Again!!
I did smile watching Josephine help you sew! I also seemed to miss several spots of catching the binding on the back side. What has helped me is using glue to hold the binding down instead of clipping. Press the glue to dry it, so it doesn’t gum up the needle. Problem solved! I especially enjoyed watching your free motion quilting on the fly. I think it turned out great!
My first sewing experience was when I was about six years old. I starting making clothes for my dolls. I would lay the dolls on the fabric and cut around them and then stitch it together. In the process of hand stitching them, I would stitch them onto my clothing. LOL would have to start dewing it all over again. LOL
My earliest sewing experience was in junior high. Our project(s) were to make a gym bag and an apron. Because of our teacher I don't think I would have finished the projects..but I learned "how to" later in life.

As 11 or 12 year old farm girl I cut up clothes my mother had stored in our grain barn to make my own shorts and dresses on her pedal singer. I was always fascinated watching her sew and for some reason I was not scolded for cutting up her old clothes which began my sewing journey.
My earliest memories were of my mom pulling down the quilt frame mounted on eye hooks in the ceiling. she would measure to be sure it was square and then mount the sandwich on the frame. She quilted all by hand. Working with her, I helped finish my son's baby quilt. It is now with my great grandson, fifty plus years later.❤
My earliest and most fondest memory of quilting is sitting on the floor under a wooden quilting frame that is surrounded by my grandmother and her friends. My job was to play quietly until someone needed a needle threaded 🪡.
I don't remember when I began sewing!! I sewed many clothing items beginning when I was a teen, then clothes for my boys and items for our home. I quilted off and on for many years, but more regularly since the grandkids began arriving, deciding to sew each one their own baby quilt. I machine pieced and hand quilted. With 11 grands arriving in the last 11 years, it's kept me busy!! But the quilting bug had taken hold!! Hubby graciously purchased a new machine to make FMQ possible. I'm just a beginner, but I try to practice a lot!! I've made a bunch of potholders as practice squares. 😂 But I want to try your practice FMQ quilt to improve. This last Christmas, at what I call Cousin Camp the granddaughters each made an easy potholder. I have a couple of them that already show an interest in sewing and quilting 😁
I learned to sew while sitting on my grandma’s knee. She would pedal (my legs too short to reach the pedal) and help me guide pieces of fabric under the needle. I still hear her saying to me “watch your finger, don’t get it under the needle”! Very shortly after, grandma upgraded her pedal machine to an electric sewing machine. My mom also got an electric machine at that time. I learned to hem as my mom was making flannelette diapers, then little gowns, for my baby sister.

My first quilting experience was in high school where I made a quillow. I’m currently 63 years old and quilt every single day. For binding I find it show much easier to sew the binding on the backside then flip it over to the front sewing very close to the edge. There are times when your stitches do show on the back but at least you’ll know it’s always going to be caught. Truly enjoy your videos!
I was 3, and I used a huge sharpe with a large eye. Black thread, doubled was what held my project tog. It was a tube of fabric, that became a dress for my babydoll. I was hooked!!! Nearly sixty years later, I still feel like the short video of the young girl who types over her video with ‘SEWING!’ instead of ‘CORN!’ I. The song.

I happen to live with My daughter, son in law and my 2 yr old Granddaughter and she's been helping Me at the sewing machine since she was 1- She loves to push the scissor button for me to cut my threads, she always inthe craft room with Me and loves when I give her a stack of fat quarters to play with, lol she covers the dog bed and her dolls with them! My mom gave me her old singer sewing machine and the fabric samples that came in the mail. I remember sewing them together for Barbie doll quilts. I was about 8.
Im inot a quilter, Im a bag maker but I've been wanting to incorporate qulted panels onto bags. I REALLY LEARNED A LOT from this series. Thank you so much.
My earliest sewing experience was working the treadle on my mothers machine in the early fifties. She was a seamstress and when later I used to get sewing homework from school she could not bear to let me go in with my rather poor efforts so overnight my various projects turned into triumphs!!! I am sure the teacher knew it was not my work. As a result I developed into what i would describe as a "bread and butter" machinist and only came to quilting in my late 60's so plenty to learn. Free motion quilting has so far defeated me but one of these days I will risk all on a proper quilt especially having seen the tip about using a dry marker and vinyl I saw in one of your other videos.
My earliest sewing was making a two layer receiving blanket of flannel that was blanket stitched to bond it. Boy turning edge as under was hard to do and the getting the blanket stitch even was a pain. My mom loved it and it was his favorite blanket. What a surprise.
my first sewing memory w visiting my grandmother She kept a basket of odds and ends of all kinds for the grandchildren to play with one visit there was a scrap of a wool jersey knit in a berry and black -colored print I loved the softness, the fluidity and the drape-- it was like flowing water. when I was older my mother let me mend the childrens' (six of us!) play clothes I had a ball using every color of thread she had and all the fancy stitches on her machine I didn't know why she didn't want me to touch my Dad's clothes this was a great way for me to get comfortable with the sewing machine before I took sewing in home ec
Santa gave me a “toy “ sewing machine when I was about five and my mother gave me some help with it. I slowly got better and I started to make things for my dolls. from there I took home mec in school which turned into making my clothes…and family. I was 30+ before I tried quilting then was I was off . Now I’m guiding my daughter through steps of quilting.
I remember going with my mom when I was 7 years old to my maw maw's house and my she had other ladies and her sister's there and we all went into the Livingroom and from the ceiling they let down this big square and put a quilt on it and they all had a needle and thread in hand and started sewing on the quilt as they were talking. My Aunt asked if I wanted to try and as a kid you knew I did and from that moment on I loved to sew. My paw paw said it looked and sound just like the hen house.. lol
I learned to sew in jr high school as part of home ec although I watched my aunt sew for years and was fascinated! I loved home ec ... my first project was an apron! I kept taking sewing classes, even in college. One of my first jobs was working in wardrobe in a local theater. I had been an usher, but one day they needed sewing help backstage and I volunteered! I became the theater's wardrobe mistress for several years.
My first sewing experience happened at 9yearz old. A sewing class at a YMCA using a treadle machine. Now 68 and still at. Loved your Rose quilt ND the Cathredal Window
My earliest sewing experience was when I was 7 years old. My teacher decided to teach us to make handkerchiefs. We learned to hem all around the bit of fabric. The result of my attempt at the subsequent embroidered flower was awful 😢...anyway, I really wanted to learn to make a doll's dress, so my mom took over and started teaching me how to sew garments...60 years later, I'm still at it.
I started sewing the summer between 7th and 8th grade when I took summer school sewing and made an A line skirt. I know that I put the zipper in 4 times before I got it right--lucky for me the fabric was sturdy enough to take that kind of abuse and not look bad! I was so proud of that skirt that had taken me 8 weeks to complete, but it was at least 2 sizes too big! I was in high school when I finally could wear it. I remember the sewing teacher being very patient with us and positive. In high school I took 3 years of sewing and loved it all! 🤩
I saw one of those antique crazy quilts in a Better Homes and garden book- it had gold-ish looking had stitching on some of the pieces- ** earliest quilt experience- I could have been 8. We were visiting friends ( native Cherokee ) the ladies were all sitting around a quilt frame made of PVC pipe- hanging from the ceiling- they invited me to hand 🤚 stitch a small square- they were pretty Fast- - fun day - took forever-!

My mom taught me to sew at around 4. I sewed baby doll clothes from her scraps. She had a singer touch and sew and I made most of my clothes in high school. I am just coming back to it after stopping when I went to work.
I watched the basting video and had wondered how soon you need to quilt it. Now I know. My first sewing experience I think was in Jr. High home ec class. I made a bean bag frog, then a denim jumper dress. My mom sewed me some skirts, but I don't remember her showing me how to sew. Your FMQ looks great! Your granddaughter is so beautiful. You're fortunate that you get to live close by her.
I made my FIRST quilt EVER, last year. I made a crazy quilt (not using blocks) to commemorate crazy 2020-2021. I used some clothing from my loved ones plus scraps and fat quarters. So FUN!!
My earliest experience with sewing was when I asked Santa for a holly hobby crank toy sewing machine (which really worked) at around age 7 or 8 but my earliest experience making something was when I was about 12 years old and I was in 4H and I worked on my classes and ribbons by making a pair of slacks and then a skirt which I also had to walk in front of the judges wearing, and I won blue ribbons for both!!
Great information, thanks so much! My best sewing memory was my Mama’s mother sewing matching shorts and tops for my aunt - 10 and me - 9. She taught me you can use any kind of fabric you have on hand. She used flour sacks for the shorts and towels from laundry detergent boxes ( anyone remember those?😄) for the tops! All my aunts and both grandmothers and my mama sewed, so I have some great memories….
Love this…..thanks for the tips! I learned how to sew, sewing for my Barbie Doll. I was very young and had to hand sew the clothes. I think this is why I love hand quilting! Lol…..but am going to try free motion quilting because of your video. When I started sewing on a machine I learned that my seam ripper was a best friend! 😊
I was in middle school, and my sewing teacher helped me make bib-overalls, brown corduroy with black train tracks. My favorite, wore at least every week to school.
I learned a lot from this tutorial, 1st we have the same machine, 2nd I’ve never tried joining the binding like that,3rd your a great quilter, it’s not as easy as you make it look,4th your granddaughter is adorable 🥰! Thank you

Went back and re-watched this video this evening. Will start practicing FMQing using the batting squares and fabric I cut up months ago for your FMQ videos in preparation of FMQing the PL quilts I've made. Was cracking up at Josie's beaming little face whenever you'd show her close up on the video!!! SHE'S SO STINKIN' ADORABLE!!! You are so blessed to have her in your life! Anyway, currently reviewing your FMQ videos and making a list of those easiest patterns to start with to build up my confidence. I used to call my daughter My Little Mouse Baby because she was so petite. When she got to toddler age, she was then called My Girl Mouse. 🥰 She's now 27 yrs. old.
When I was probably four I got a rag doll for Christmas, which I still have. I never went anywhere for long without her. Since I chewed on her hands I always needed someone to repair her fingertips. Eventually, at about seven, I was told I had to do it myself. So I learned to thread a needle, tie the knot, and do the stitches. Those bumpy stitches are still there and I'm 71. By the time I was eight I had a kit with a little doll and precut outfits which I often took to school with me and spent my recess sitting on the playground sewing with needle and thread. That was my idea of a fun time. Love your videos.

My Dad bought my mom a Necchi back in 1955 (I still have it). Mom didn't like to sew but my dad was an aircraft mechanic/restorer/inspector and he had upholstery experience. He made a slipcover for my headboard out of pink vinyl with gold haystack on it (I studied it for hours). He also made a upholstery cover with cording for the sewing machine cabinet, I studied that too. I was probably 4 years old when he made them. Your little granddaughter Josephine will remember these projects, done with you, until she is my age....66! Thanks for all your great videos...see you on the Sew Yeah channel.

I love scrap quilts. My first memory of sewing was when i was in 2nd grade. My mom got a test sewing machine from a salesman, and she made me the cutest dress. Mom had never sewn before. I still don't know what she did, but we could barely get the dress over my skinny little shoulders. We finally got it on, and I loved it. It was a disaster getting it back off and Mom threw the dress away and gave the sewing ma hine back to the salesman. But it gave me an early incentive to learn how to sew, and I did. I still enjoy sewing to this day, but quilting is a relatively new experience for me.
My first sewing memory was sitting under my mother’s sewing machine while she was sewing for me. She had given me a square of fabric and a silver straight pin and I was taking that square apart one thread at a time! Like Pamela Hill, my first sewing experiences were high school, over 50 years ago. I made a whole outfit for myself as well, I was so tickled that I made my own children's holiday clothing every year and then I was introduced to quilting by my MIL who taught me and I loved it. Though I've definitely gained a lot of knowledge here... we use to tack quilts. It was the only way back in that day to get it done. Now, there are SO many options! I watch Angela Walters too, she's an awesome teacher. I've really enjoyed your videos and especially that sweet little grand baby. 🥰
My first experience with sewing was was about 72 years ago. I was at my Grandmother's house. My little cousin was here from Boston. We lived in south Mississippi. Our grandmother gave us little squares of fabric with a needle and thread. It was such fun. It looked terrible but it started a love for quilting that has never died.
I grew up watching my mom and her best friend make dresses for hire. It was a business so I watched from a distance. At age 15 I made a “pant suit” from green gingham seersucker! I was hooked and very proud. I have had many mentors along my sewing journey and I learned from each one. Today my daughter and I have a small quilt shop. I hand pick the binding on quilts for customers. Love your channel!

My 1st sewing memory is when I was about 5 years old I asked my mother how buttons got on clothes,She sewed on a button to show me. When I was about 9 I was sewing on a scrap of fabric ,I guess I was just practicing. My baby sister Started screaming. She had a needle stuck in her knee. I was blamed for it. My parents took her to the hospital. The needle was bent and it was working it's way out. It came out of her knee pretty easily,thank goodness. One of my sister's and I played with our great grandmothers singer treadle sewing machine when we were about 5/6 years old. I have many other sewing stories.

Grams, she even embroidery by hand, uffta my hands ack at the thought, that was her gift, she was good, I still hv a few of her itemsshe made Me!! I loved watching her, I didn't hv the leg or ankle strength too pump her foot peddle, Grams told Me I will grow too lov her machine, I replied hope not... she taught Me hand stitch, and Embroidery oh I couldn't get enough ❤😊 Been over 20+ years I gave all my sewing stuff away, I can not get over how much it all cost today, I will purchase just checking on which machine I really want too focus and purchase... My first sewing experience was in home ec. That was over 50 + years ago, I wish I could remember my teachers name, she was magnificent. She was very particular on procedures that she taught. I learned soooo much from her and fell in love with sewing. I never had a sewing machine to continue my sewing on until I had a daughter. I made her clothes and several special dresses as she grew. Then 40 years passed, I got the itch to sew again. I self taught myself quilting by watching you tube. It was instant love again. Each lesson I have learned something. By this time in my life I am retired and live on Social Security. Boy has material shoot up in price! Now I have the problem of affording material. But I still love sewing.
I started sewing barbie doll clothes at age 6. My Mom sewed and I asked her for a pattern to make my doll some clothes. She got one for me and didnt want to waste her good fabric, so she gave me a big piece of a sheet. Well it was white and I wanted some colors, so I asked if I could use some left over easter egg dye and dye my fabric. She helped me rip my fabric into 6 pieces and we dyed them. I think she was surprised at my interest. I made the clothes with her help, sewing by hand and fell in love. At age 9 or so she taught me to embroider because I asked to learn as I watched her. And I made my 1st quilt at age 11. A string quilt. I thought it was so cool to sew on the pieces of paper. She quilted it of coarse. Alot of good memories with my Mom.

I was 12 y.o. when Barbie Doll arrive in this world. But there was no clothing to go with her! So, I learned how to see princess dresses etc. And at 15 y.o., I did my first dress. And always sew all my life. I am 71 y.o.!!

I was 4yrs old sitting under the quilt frame my grandma and her 3 sisters sat on wooded stools around the frame. I watched as the needles came in and out. It was also my first paying job. All 4 ladies were quite hefty and whenever they dropped anything I handed it back and I got a penny. I’m 75 and that experience gave me a love of fabric and that gift was the beginning of a lifelong relationship with quilting. For the past 50 years I have made more quilts than I count, for every birth, birthdays, baptisms, marriages, and stacks of small size for the children involved in auto accidents who weren’t injured. My fireman and deputies kept them in their vehicles. Was such a satisfying experience. Fabrics are my therapy. Thank you for your shows.
The sweetest words I ever heard were on my granddaughter's 10th birthday: "Grandma, will you teach me how to sew?"

When I was 5 years old my mom taught me to embroider. As a child and a young teen I did needlepoint and perfected my embroidery. I ended up going to fashion school at my mom's urging where I sewed clothes for many years. When my dear m other passed away I stopped sewing. I couldn't go near my sewing machine without bursting into tears. My mom was my biggest fan. A few years passed and I found a DIY on TV and saw a quilting show. I fell in love with quilting and I have been quilting since 2003. I make quilts, bags and recently I started sewing clothes for my granddaughters and for me. My 5 year old granddaughter is now getting sewing lessons from me.

Beautiful granddaughter! Important memories being made. Love the tutorial! My mother used to made all of our clothes, four girls and one boy stuck in the middle. There were flour sack outfits for the little girls summer play clothes someone would give her. There were loads of hand me downs she would rework so they fit me that once belonged to an older cousin. I learned to so on my mother’s black, straight stitch Singer when making y first 4-H skirt. I think that was 3 yards all the way around the hem. If I got a stitch off she made me rip it out and start the entire 3 yard hem again. I don’t recommend having you 8 or 9 year old to do this as they might be like me and say things like “ I hate to sew”! “I will never sew!” “When I grow up I am going to buy all my clothing at a store!” I now own 7 sewing machines & serger. Included in the machines is a treadle machine, an old black Singer, and a Dream Machine. Lol, joke turns out was on me!!
Your quilt turned out very pretty. I love the fabric that you used for the binding. I want some of it. Baby Josephine is really cute. Maybe you could put a highchair next to you and put her in it and give her some scraps to play with. She could hand them to you while you crumb quilt. She would probably have a good time doing that. I want to teach the little ones in my family how to sew and quilt. I have a 9 year old nephew and a 2 year old niece and a 5 year old great niece. I plan on teaching all of them.
Little Josie will be a great helper when she can sit still long enough LOL😂 She always sees my sewing..she hangs out in my sewing room with me when I watch her💛

My first sewing experience was at age 10. I loved fabric and collected scraps from different people. My grandmother saw me trying to hand stitch fabric scraps into dolls clothes and she gave me her knee operated Singer and showed me how to use it. I made dolls clothes and rag dolls and did hems and mending. I remade some of my mother's skirts to fit me. When I was 14 my mother paid for a sewing course, two hours a day on five days. That was the first time I bought fabric and a pattern. I made a horrible apricot dress with huge puffed sleeves and I never wore it. But I have made all my clothes since then and I am almost 75 now. I do not use patterns anymore - I prefer to design as I go and my clothes are usually loose and casual. I still love fabric. When I was having babies I made quilts and patchwork quilt covers for the family and some for sale, but had to put quilting aside for about 30 years while the family was growing and I was working. In those years I made stage costumes, and sets and props and curtains, mini quilts and patchwork cushions. Now I have 5 grandchildren, a grandson in law and 1 great grandson and I am making quilts for them all. Crazy, colourful, fun quilts - I don't do pattens. Only two more to go and those will be string quilts for sisters. I am going to attempt quilt as you go because quilting a big piece is just too much for me now I am looking foward to learning this new technique. I will look at your pool noodles tomorrow.

My grandfather was a quilter. He sewed all by hand. I loved to watch, he threaded tons of needles and they were put in pin cushions all in a row so it looked like a curtain. My mother was a seamstress and had her own business. She sat me down at age 6 and taught me to sew. I have never looked back. I had three sisters, we all know how to sew and do in our own way.

My mother made my dresses, so to save her time, she taught my to do the hemming. So once. I learned Hemming, I went to embroidery and from there as time came and went, I took homeck in school and next came making my clothes. Got married and started making garments for they family. I even made matching western shirts for my husband and myself. If anything had thread involved I did it. Thank you for your videos.

I started sewing by making dresses for my dolls. I was about 11 years. Then start to make my own clothes from early high school. From there always making something. All my daughters clothes and now lots of things for my grand kids. Started quilting about ten years ago. Love it!
When I was in the fourth grade my grandmother said I was too old to play with Barbie dolls. Instead of playing with my Barbie dolls I began to make them clothing sewn by hand. Later after my children were born I began to learn to sew with a sewing machine. I bought a combination sewing machine / embroidery machine a began to to quilt. I love crazy patchwork quilting!

My earliest sewing memory was in junior high in home ec class. My mother was a seamstress by trade and when I would bring my project home to work on it, she would make me rip it out and do it over and over until it was right. This actually deterred me from most sewing for years. I didn't quilt until all my kids were grown and out of the house. During their growing up, I did sew some of their clothes, in fact I made my then 6 year old daughter a dress with apron, completely with hand sewing as I did not have a sewing machine at the time.
What a beautiful little girl, hope she fallows in Grans shoes....Thank you for putting up these video's, I took up quilting in my 60's ,then hubby took ill & I had to look after him & had no time for quilting. , after he passed I had no desire anymore, for a few months I did get back into it but it just didn't feel he same. . 2 years ago I moved to a senior apt; complex & last Sept another lady was looking for someone to quilt with, I joined her & we made 12 quilts for a special project & I've doing some for myself. now I have to urge to quilt again. in my middle 80's thank you for your great video's .I'm learning a lot that I had forgotten; how to do some things .

I learned hand sewing from my mother from about the age of six, using embroidery needles and looseweave sacking, etc, and by 12, I was sewing rag dolls, and the clothes, with scraps from my mother's Bit Bin, and sewing my teenage pals bras to fit properly. I hand sewed a small lap quilt with hexagons for my grandmother, but I didn't start using a machine til about 16 on an old motorised singer, and made quite a few projects. Then life sort of got in the way when I married and was working a lot. When I started having my children, I was given a second hand sewing machine by a lady I used to shop for, and I made a proper quilt for my first daughter when I was 26...I still have it 32 years later.

My first experience was in Home Economics…..wow our teacher had no patience with many of us and spent most of her time with the star students. She told me that her 8 yr old granddaughter could sew better than me. But I picked it up again when I was married and had 2 daughters. I made lots of summer dresses for them and so enjoyed the process. ( my momma made many clothes for me growing up.)
As our girls got older I stopped sewing until I made my 1$ quilt by hand. 2023 will have me making my first scrappy quilt. Can’t wait, but first I have to heal from shoulder surgery.😊
My earliest sewing memory is making dolly clothes with my mum probably about 4 or 5yrs old, my earliest quilting memory is trying to teach myself patchwork ages about 13yrs that piece is now a full size quilt cover all hand stitched onto an old sheet crazy quilt style. It took me about 30 years off and on to finish it completely so I could use it. I’m still working on it occasionally to repair the worn out embroidery silks I used and patch the wear holes with new fabric. It’s packed with memories with scraps from my childhood clothes that my mum made to scraps from clothes I made for my own children. It’s about 50 years since I started it and the colours fade a little more with each wash but I still smile when I put it on the bed.
I remember the elderly lady that babysat me when I was 3 years old. She would hand baste all her dresses together before she sewed them together. My job was ripping out the basting stitches. Then she would have the ladies over and they would sit around the quilting frame hand quilting quilts. I am reminded of those days often and wish I was more attentive.

I didn't make my graduation outfit. But, yeah I was pretty poor too. But because I was in sewing, I got to buy fabric for sewing class too.
I enjoyed this series more than any I've seen......Magnificent!!!!! Both the quilt and little Josephine is absolutely beautiful!!!♥ Her dark eyes are so mesmerizing ♥ I began my quilting journey 8 months ago at the age of 72. I made my first dress in Home Ec, when I was a freshman in 1969. I didn't like sewing, even though I was very proud of the dress. I didn't sew again until about 8 years ago. I started quilting. Now it's my favorite hobby.

I have been sewing for 50 years.i have sew doll clothes, my clothes, my first quilt I sew and hand quilt was 19 years ago.the pass 3 years I have a lot of Guniea Pigs Midwest Blanket Cage liners. and tunnels, cuddles sack, peedpads. but now I got back in to sew quilting blocks. I have a lot of left over scared fleece to made a 9 patch quilt .I love sewing.thank you ❤

I really didn’t do much practice, basically I began quilting on my quilts. I think a larger surface to quilt on improves muscle memory pretty fast. I know you’ll keep up the good work. I have just discovered your channel and have fallen in love with your style of teaching. You present things in such a manner that it makes me feel that I should go ahead and try it. You must write it down for her Momma to record the date of when you and her shared your first few stitches together. You have taught me so much in just a few videos. At 4 yeas old, I’d seen my mom sewing for hours. I wanted to sew! When she went outside to hang out clothes, I sat at the sewing with a piece of cloth, pushes it through the place where the needle was stitching. Look, I’m sewing! BUT my middle finger was in the way and the needle went through it. Yelping, I jerked my finger away. Needle was still in it. Mom came in and cared for my injured finger. No fussing just tender care and chuckles later. . She did let me push cloth though very slowly every once in a while after that.
Josephine is adorable!!! She is perfect and I am sure she will love being in mimi's sewing room. I have 9 grandchildren and they loved going to the craft room and grabbing a seat and always asking Grammy what are we gonna craft today??the boys or girls didnt matter, they all loved coming to grammy and pa's house and helping Pa out side and Grammy in her crafting room after a bath and dinner. my fondest memories of my darling grandchildren. By the way my kids were the same way lets help Mom out in her craft room.

My mom started her sewing business on a Treadle Sewing Machine, years and years ago...I fell asleep listening to the whirr of it, as she sewed in her bedroom across the hall from mine; I started to learn to sew on her treadle making Barbie clothes...then started to sew in HomeEc in Grade 8; I stopped after Gr. 12 Home Ec...but then started to quilt in 2000 when I had young children of my own...still quilting!

When I was ten, my Grandmother placed a shoe box with cotton squares between us and showed me how to hand piece them. Grandma always had a quilt frame setup, and the fabric was left over from the clothes, aprons, curtains she made. Quilting is now my passion, and I still have quilts my Gran made. Carol
That is a good idea, to do the freemotion quilting on a wide border !! It saves you from the hardest thing (i think) in FMQ, the bulk under the throat of the machine. Thanks Tracey. Again!!
I did smile watching Josephine help you sew! I also seemed to miss several spots of catching the binding on the back side. What has helped me is using glue to hold the binding down instead of clipping. Press the glue to dry it, so it doesn’t gum up the needle. Problem solved! I especially enjoyed watching your free motion quilting on the fly. I think it turned out great!
My first sewing experience was when I was about six years old. I starting making clothes for my dolls. I would lay the dolls on the fabric and cut around them and then stitch it together. In the process of hand stitching them, I would stitch them onto my clothing. LOL would have to start dewing it all over again. LOL
My earliest sewing experience was in junior high. Our project(s) were to make a gym bag and an apron. Because of our teacher I don't think I would have finished the projects..but I learned "how to" later in life.

Thank you for sharing your love of sewing with your Granddaughter. Most adults don't want to be bothered with children. If they are old enough to show an interest, please feed their interest. When they start asking questions, always tell them the truth. Your Granddaughter has beautiful eyes.

As 11 or 12 year old farm girl I cut up clothes my mother had stored in our grain barn to make my own shorts and dresses on her pedal singer. I was always fascinated watching her sew and for some reason I was not scolded for cutting up her old clothes which began my sewing journey.

My earliest memories were of my mom pulling down the quilt frame mounted on eye hooks in the ceiling. she would measure to be sure it was square and then mount the sandwich on the frame. She quilted all by hand. Working with her, I helped finish my son's baby quilt. It is now with my great grandson, fifty plus years later.❤

I was 5 when my sweet grandmother taught me to sew on a treadle machine, Singer, of course. She sewed on it exclusively. I loved sewing from there on.
My earliest and most fondest memory of quilting is sitting on the floor under a wooden quilting frame that is surrounded by my grandmother and her friends. My job was to play quietly until someone needed a needle threaded 🪡.

I don't remember when I began sewing!! I sewed many clothing items beginning when I was a teen, then clothes for my boys and items for our home. I quilted off and on for many years, but more regularly since the grandkids began arriving, deciding to sew each one their own baby quilt. I machine pieced and hand quilted. With 11 grands arriving in the last 11 years, it's kept me busy!! But the quilting bug had taken hold!! Hubby graciously purchased a new machine to make FMQ possible. I'm just a beginner, but I try to practice a lot!! I've made a bunch of potholders as practice squares. 😂 But I want to try your practice FMQ quilt to improve. This last Christmas, at what I call Cousin Camp the granddaughters each made an easy potholder. I have a couple of them that already show an interest in sewing and quilting 😁

I learned to sew while sitting on my grandma’s knee. She would pedal (my legs too short to reach the pedal) and help me guide pieces of fabric under the needle. I still hear her saying to me “watch your finger, don’t get it under the needle”! Very shortly after, grandma upgraded her pedal machine to an electric sewing machine. My mom also got an electric machine at that time. I learned to hem as my mom was making flannelette diapers, then little gowns, for my baby sister.
My granddaughter and grandson having a blast sewing on chair lap with me. Their 7 going on 8 and 4 1/2 yrs of age. So adorable how interested learning to sew. We're making scrap fabric. Learning with you. Ty my grandkids watch along with me
My first quilting experience was in high school where I made a quillow. I’m currently 63 years old and quilt every single day.
For binding I find it show much easier to sew the binding on the backside then flip it over to the front sewing very close to the edge. There are times when your stitches do show on the back but at least you’ll know it’s always going to be caught. Truly enjoy your videos!

I was 3, and I used a huge sharpe with a large eye. Black thread, doubled was what held my project tog. It was a tube of fabric, that became a dress for my babydoll.
I was hooked!!! Nearly sixty years later, I still feel like the short video of the young girl who types over her video with ‘SEWING!’ instead of ‘CORN!’ I. The song.
Every time Josephine’s little face peaked around the corner of the screen, she made me smile. What a cute and happy baby😘 You can tell she loves her grandma to pieces.

I happen to live with My daughter, son in law and my 2 yr old Granddaughter and she's been helping Me at the sewing machine since she was 1- She loves to push the scissor button for me to cut my threads, she always inthe craft room with Me and loves when I give her a stack of fat quarters to play with, lol she covers the dog bed and her dolls with them! She is such a Blessing as You've also been Blessed with Josephine! Thank You so much for Sharing and BTW I love Laura's technique for the binding, sew very easy, lol! True!!

My earliest sewing experience was working the treadle on my mothers machine in the early fifties. She was a seamstress and when later I used to get sewing homework from school she could not bear to let me go in with my rather poor efforts so overnight my various projects turned into triumphs!!! I am sure the teacher knew it was not my work. As a result I developed into what i would describe as a "bread and butter" machinist and only came to quilting in my late 60's so plenty to learn. Free motion quilting has so far defeated me but one of these days I will risk all on a proper quilt especially having seen the tip about using a dry marker and vinyl I saw in one of your other videos.

My earliest sewing was making a two layer receiving blanket of flannel that was blanket stitched to bond it. Boy turning edge as under was hard to do and the getting the blanket stitch even was a pain. My mom loved it and it was his favorite blanket. What a surprise.
P.S. I was 7. The blanket stitch was done with crochet thread.
my first sewing memory w visiting my grandmother She kept a basket of odds and ends of all kinds for the grandchildren to play with one visit there was a scrap of a wool jersey knit in a berry and black -colored print I loved the softness, the fluidity and the drape-- it was like flowing water. when I was older my mother let me mend the childrens' (six of us!) play clothes I had a ball using every color of thread she had and all the fancy stitches on her machine I didn't know why she didn't want me to touch my Dad's clothes this was a great way for me to get comfortable with the sewing machine before I took sewing in home ec

Santa gave me a “toy “ sewing machine when I was about five and my mother gave me some help with it. I slowly got better and I started to make things for my dolls. from there I took home mec in school which turned into making my clothes…and family. I was 30+ before I tried quilting then was I was off . Now I’m guiding my daughter through steps of quilting.

I remember going with my mom when I was 7 years old to my maw maw's house and my she had other ladies and her sister's there and we all went into the Livingroom and from the ceiling they let down this big square and put a quilt on it and they all had a needle and thread in hand and started sewing on the quilt as they were talking. My Aunt asked if I wanted to try and as a kid you knew I did and from that moment on I loved to sew. My paw paw said it looked and sound just like the hen house.. lol

I learned to sew in jr high school as part of home ec although I watched my aunt sew for years and was fascinated! I loved home ec ... my first project was an apron! I kept taking sewing classes, even in college. One of my first jobs was working in wardrobe in a local theater. I had been an usher, but one day they needed sewing help backstage and I volunteered! I became the theater's wardrobe mistress for several years.

My earliest sewing experience was when I was 7 years old.
My teacher decided to teach us to make handkerchiefs.
We learned to hem all around the bit of fabric. The result of my attempt at the subsequent embroidered flower was awful 😢...anyway, I really wanted to learn to make a doll's dress, so my mom took over and started teaching me how to sew garments...60 years later, I'm still at it.

I started sewing the summer between 7th and 8th grade when I took summer school sewing and made an A line skirt. I know that I put the zipper in 4 times before I got it right--lucky for me the fabric was sturdy enough to take that kind of abuse and not look bad! I was so proud of that skirt that had taken me 8 weeks to complete, but it was at least 2 sizes too big! I was in high school when I finally could wear it. I remember the sewing teacher being very patient with us and positive. In high school I took 3 years of sewing and loved it all!

I could have been 8. We were visiting friends ( native Cherokee ) the ladies were all sitting around a quilt frame made of PVC pipe- hanging from the ceiling- they invited me to hand 🤚 stitch a small square- they were pretty Fast- - fun day - took forever-!

My mom taught me to sew at around 4. I sewed baby doll clothes from her scraps. She had a singer touch and sew and I made most of my clothes in high school.

I watched the basting video and had wondered how soon you need to quilt it. Now I know. My first sewing experience I think was in Jr. High home ec class. I made a bean bag frog, then a denim jumper dress. My mom sewed me some skirts, but I don't remember her showing me how to sew. Your FMQ looks great! Your granddaughter is so beautiful. You're fortunate that you get to live close by her.

I made my FIRST quilt EVER, last year. I made a crazy quilt (not using blocks) to commemorate crazy 2020-2021. I used some clothing from my loved ones plus scraps and fat quarters. So FUN!!

My earliest experience with sewing was when I asked Santa for a holly hobby crank toy sewing machine (which really worked) at around age 7 or 8 but my earliest experience making something was when I was about 12 years old and I was in 4H and I worked on my classes and ribbons by making a pair of slacks and then a skirt which I also had to walk in front of the judges wearing, and I won blue ribbons for both!!
Great information, thanks so much! My best sewing memory was my Mama’s mother sewing matching shorts and tops for my aunt - 10 and me - 9. She taught me you can use any kind of fabric you have on hand. She used flour sacks for the shorts and towels from laundry detergent boxes ( anyone remember those?😄) for the tops! All my aunts and both grandmothers and my mama sewed, so I have some great memories….

Love this…..thanks for the tips! I learned how to sew, sewing for my Barbie Doll. I was very young and had to hand sew the clothes. I think this is why I love hand quilting! Lol…..but am going to try free motion quilting because of your video. When I started sewing on a machine I learned that my seam ripper was a best friend! 😊

Went back and re-watched this video this evening. Will start practicing FMQing using the batting squares and fabric I cut up months ago for your FMQ videos in preparation of FMQing the PL quilts I've made. Was cracking up at Josie's beaming little face whenever you'd show her close up on the video!!! SHE'S SO STINKIN' ADORABLE!!! You are so blessed to have her in your life! Anyway, currently reviewing your FMQ videos and making a list of those easiest patterns to start with to build up my confidence. I think your little future quilter is overdue for another cameo on one of your upcoming videos. 😉

I used to call my daughter My Little Mouse Baby because she was so petite. When she got to toddler age, she was then called My Girl Mouse. 🥰 She's now 27 yrs. old.
