Three years later and your video is still helping people. I am a new quilter and working in a very small space...on a 2' X 5' table (or my bed ) and this video was so very helpful. I can't thank you enough for sharing this trick with others.
Thank you so much for your video. I couldn't imaging how a POOL NOODLE could help me to quilt. It's better than the spray by a long shot, and better than kneeling on the floor to pin the layers together. Wow. Love it!!!
Started using pool noodles a couple of years ago and it changed the whole quilting experience. I bought a piece of dowel at the hardware store to extend the noodles, and I also use basting spray. Now, it takes less than 30 minutes to sandwich a quilt, and I don't end up with so many UFO's!

This is awesome. I have cats and this helped me to complete my quilt sandwich quickly without spending much time chasing cats or watching them watch me through the cat gate... lol. Also an awesome way to store my quilt sandwich until I complete the quilting on it! Thank you!!!

Could have fooled me too. The video is so well organized. I will be able to layer small and large queen size or twin size quilts. I am currently making 4 twin size quilts for the last of my great grandchildren. I have been dreading layering the twin quilts and baby quilts. Now I'm excited to get started.

Great idea, thanks! Excellent job for your first video! When pinning layers together I use a regular teaspoon from my table service, slip the edge under the point of the pin as you're bringing it up thru the layers and it goes thru the layers and slides up the pin so much easier & faster. Saves your fingers too. Takes a tiny bit of practice with first few to "get in the rhythm" but worth it.
Someone else suggested a device called a Kwik Klip to help with this process. I’ll give the spoon a try next time. Thanks for the suggestion.
Your suggestion to use a pool noodle for making the quilt sandwich is awesome. It's light weight and rolls up reasonably small for better fit in my home sewing machine. (I usually roll my entire sandwich on one pool noodle.) Also, I agree with Irma Gonzalez's point about no distracting music in the background. I understand that noise is part of recording, but I really dislike added music for the sake of I don't know what. Background music often makes hearing the speaker much more challenging for me, so thanks for not putting it in. Hope others will follow your excellent approach. Please keep posting videos.
This is a FANTASTIC idea!! I agree....no distracting music or noise, and I could hear you very clearly. Your instructions were very clear as well, and I have added your video to my very first QUILTING folder to save for later so I can see it again. I've been quilting for many years, and I have done so much of this on the floor, but it's hard to get it all smoothed out that way. So, thank you for this great idea!

This video has rocked my world!!! How could I not know this technique?!?!?!? I have been quilting for 25 years and I have struggled getting all 3 layers all spread out either on the floor (knees won't do that anymore!) or trying to find a table big enough!! Now I can do this and it will be so much easier!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing this!!!! This is going to change my life!!!!!

Oh my gosh, I wish I would have seen this yesterday. It took me forever to sandwich a twin sized quilt and not to mention my back pain afterwards. This would have been so much faster and less painful on my back.. Thank you for this video. I'm going to try it on my next quilt sandwich.
This is a great way to transport my ironed quilt top and bottom to my longarmer. Excellent video!

This will keep me off the floor. The older you get the harder it is to get down and work on the floor. As a matter of fact I can barely get down long enough to pick something up.

I just bought my pool noodles today. My knees are getting too old to crawl on the floor, not to mention getting up off floor lol. I’m doing mostly small donation quilts now, so this should be just what I need !! Thanks for the inspiration!!

What a great idea! I've never seen this used but I knew pool noodles were handy for things. This would be especially nice for someone with a smaller work table. Thank you for this tutorial and the great idea.
There's a whole thing of what pool noodles are useful for I have seen them used in the top of the dogs bed

I like this method. I don’t have the floor space to layer a quilt of any size plus my back no longer goes for getting up and down off of the floor. Great to do on a table. I’m saving your video. Thank you for sharing this skill.

Loved your video. I have been using a similar method with lengths of 4”x4” timber. Pool noodles look much kinder, lighter and softer to work with. Never would have thought to change my method but I will be heading out to grab some today. Great first video, would not have known as it was very professional and easy to watch. 👍

This is very helpful advise. No more taping the layers to the dining room floor...lol. I am off to the Dollar Tree for pool noodles.

An update. I did already use this method. Oh my goodness. 100% easy to use this method. Easier to pin! I am sold on this way if sandwiching a quilt.

What a great idea for when you're limited with space- as I bet a lot of us are, lols. I often don't even have floor space available, in our tiny tiny house. I love it! Thanks for sharing that, it was very straight forward and practical.

I've been using a long piece of wood. Too heavy and awkward. Wish I'd seen this sooner. I'm buying pool noodles!

I can't tell you how many hours I spent on my hands and knees basting quilter together so I could eventually hand quilt them on my lap in a hoop!! Oh the modern conveniences we have these days!! Hi, I took a very long break from quilting and it’s certainly changed a lot. No rotary cutters when I started in the mid 70s. My first quilts were hand pieced (no machine) and quilted in a hoop. I loved it back then, but no patience for that now. I don’t recall how I sandwiched large quilts back then, but the pool noodles are so helpful, even for little ones. Good luck.
@@peterrosenfeld3053 hey Peter, I recall how I sandwiched quilts, on my hands and knees with babies around between diapers and feedings!! Oh and the cutting, definitely with scissors.......one piece at a time!!

Thank you. You should do more videos of "how to..." as you are clear in your instructions and really easy to follow. I am about half-way through making a quilt and I was dreading trying to baste it to quilt it. I am off to see if I can find pool noodles as you have shown how easy it is to put the whole quilt sandwich together by using them.
If you can't find pool noodles, you can use pipe insulation. I had some on my table, but forgot to show it.
Yes it is very helpful and looks so much easier than doing it on a floor. You have great suggestions too.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have been a piecer until now and have several small quilt to be finished. I did send out one bigger quilt to be done by a LAQ. It was expensive. This has been so helpful. Clear and very easy to follow.
I used this method on a quilt that was 78 x 98 and while the rolling and pinning went well, I ended up sending the quilt to a long-armer because I couldn't handle the bulk on my small machine. It's way easier than getting down on the floor or flaying the layers out and trying to get them centered. Good luck!

Thank you! I too am getting too old for floor crawling. I have a long dining table that will work swell for me. Also, I use a tacking gun with a plastic grid guide.

What a wonderful tutorial. Seeing and hearing the instructions is very helpful, your instructions are easy to understand. Now I have to try this, it will be so much better than trying to lay the whole thing out flat and fighting the pieces.

Thanks. One thing I should mention: leave at least 2 " extra backing and batting on all 4 sides. When you lay out the quilt top put it about an inch away from the bottom edge. Good luck. Quilting's a great hobby!

Just a note: Safty pinning goes quicker with the Quickclip gadget that helps you flip them closed. This is a super neat technique - I'm getting too old to crawl on the floor, and the cats are not helpful! Thanks so much.
Hi, Paula. A few people have mentioned the Kwik Klip or a teaspoon to help with pinning. One person suggested putting all the pins in (or a bunch of them) then going back and closing them all. I tried that and it was really fast. Thanks
