- Justin Takes a look at the Yamaha PSR-SX900 and the Previous model the PSR-S975. we take you through some of the various features on the sx900 that simply don't exist on the s975 as well as a sound comparison between the two on various different sounds.

A few comments. Yes the SX900 is impressive. However I prefer the aesthetic look of the PSR-S975's menus, chassis and overall look. The "lack" of touchscreen in actual use is of no consequence because the S975's screen navigation is excellent and very easy, and most importantly much more pleasing to look at. As to sounds, the SX900 has more sounds and more registrations, but actually I prefer many of the similar or same sound patches on the S975, which to my ears sound more subtle and tasteful. SX900 sounds are often over-bright and tinny. Both keyboards are excellent, but a used PSR-S975 will now be excellent value and in almost all practical ways just as good as the more expensive SX900.

Correct. S 975 sounds neutral, fuller and balances. SX 900 sounds tiny and high end forwarded as well. S 975 remains winner for mixing.

I've owned Yamaha keyboards for 30 years. I tried both keyboards and I wouldn't exchange the PSR S975 for the PSR SX900. I'll wait for the SX900 update and it will have to improve a lot.

Yamaha sx900 is fantastic keyboard in the present keyboard market. They now compete with Korg pa 1000 with voice and style patterns.

Are both the keyboards eq’d the same way? I’d expect the SX900 to sound a little better but the difference is almost stark in the video, which doesn’t seem to be the general consensus. Thanks for taking the time.
I just bought it in October and I thought that the SX900 would be a little better but in my opinion that is not the case. No effort was put in the voices and styles.

The PSR-SX900 has a much, much better keyboard type. The S975 has the same keyboard type as the SX600.
The speakers on the S975 is better than SX900 IMO, the low freq is better and the high is more soft to my ears. My school has both keyboards, so I can compare them directly.
How about if they use the same speaker ? Does it sound different ?

Can I do a real time key change using the transpose feature while a midi file is playing. At the moment all mine does, is to transpose the onscreen score down one for every one increase in the transpose. No change in the pitch of the music playing, however.
The sx900 seems to sound better in a way. i belive the tone generator.

More sound according to how we choose expansion packs by selecting with help of yep software.. sx 900 have 1gb expansion space and s 975 760mb so sx 900 can have more sounds. Voices
You must be kidding! I have old PSR and new PSR SX900 and new has incomparable better sound and everything else than the old one.
I think he may have a couple of small settings different between the two keyboards. When one dives deep into the menues of the SX900 it is impressive how much the sound can be changed.
@@roggyo In this video I am thinking he didn't have the settings like for like between the two. Some of the S975 sounds seemed different and in a way a little better. But he had something turned on with the sx900 that added a type of compressed chorus to everything.
Is this better the KORG PA1000? I've seen some demo videos and it appears to be a very versatile keyboard, with realistic sounds, modern rhythms and editing possibilities. The Gorg seems to me to have a more compressed sound unlike the Yamaha which is a bit unbalanced. How about. Should I buy one, which one do you suggest to me? Thank you

What are people listening to? The sound quality of the SX900 is leaps and bounds better.
The piano sounds are very similar on the S950 compared to the sx900 that I have replaced it with. I would say half the sounds are of comparable quality. A used s 950 is a bargain keyboard.

They are very different products compared to MODX and Montage. SX series is an arranger keyboard so it has backing styles and understand chords and matched with intros and endings etc. MODX and Montage do not do that. The keys on the SX900 feel much nicer then MODX but not as good as Montage. The SX900 is not the same level in terms of sound selection to MODX or Montage. They have more sounds and much more focused on sound capabilities, quality and control. SX900 can not do what they do with sound and especially with the effects processing and super knob controller etc. MODX/ Montage is designed for studio and live work where SX is designed for the home keyboard player - although its sound quality is superb and can be used live as well as many do. Hope that helps a little.

Could you answer one more question?
Is one of the NORD keyboards a good alternative to Montage? I don’t do production. I just want it for good sounds. Great pianos and organs. Also love good synth sounds and the ability to somewhat (beginner level) tweak the sound). I was looking at Nord Electro 6 for pianos and organs and Nord Stage 3 for more capabilities. Piano 5 is nice too, but it’s missing the organs.
Should I go with Nord or Montage?
Hi Justin here in France we have a curfew from 6 PM to 6 AM so practically we stay at home for 12 hours a day... interesting videos such as this one help biding the time. The PSR SX900 sure looks like a very fine instrument!
Are you going to do a review of the new DGX670? There seems to exist the same quantum leap between the DGX660 and the DGX670 as between the PSR S975 and the PAR SX900. The DGX670 looks like the perfect home instrument for the whole family.

I don't know why I sold my yamaha psr 970 thinking that yamaha would release a more advanced model and I was wrong. I regret selling it.

@@evanroberts4666 no, but yamaha has to improve their keyboards a lot, the problem is that they always have the same rhythms and the occasional new sound that's all, in my opinion it's not worth upgrading until yamaha doesn't change all its rhythms and sounds and make them new

Bottoms sound better but not quite for studio use.
Sx 900 and s 975 is similarly one but good opponent for this wonderful keyboard is pa 600,pa 700,pa 800,pa 900 and pa 1000.....

Si,Sx 900 e con un paio di gradini un po’ più su nei confronti della S975 ma coasi non si nota ne anche la differenza dei suoni.
The advantages of the PSR-975 with its large number of small buttons are obvious to visually impaired and blind people. How can they use the beautiful touch screen with big pictures? And there are enough such people. No thought was given to their convenience.
Surely the better definition of sx900 could be for higher quality of its embodied monitors.
The difference clearly is more evident in the organ voices.
Why isn't an example of full organ?
I think both were going straight into a stereo mixer..you were not hearing the actual keyboard speakers mic'd up.

That's not possible, I have some music arrangements on SX900 are far better result than running it on the S975. SX900 is far better than S975.

Iam going to buy a psr when yamaha make every style bran new.
Yamaha took forever to catch up to Krog. All the new features in the 900 have been in PA 600 an up since 5 years ago. I do love the sounds on the 900 though. I ordered one.

Such a dumbs. U don't know the power of the sx900. I had used the s975 in stage and sx900 in stage. The sx900 punchy styles and performance in sx900 is the best I've ever seen. But in s975 the styles are like somthing hitting the shit.

S975 has the best acoustic piano sounds compared to SX900.
My *S975* sounds amazing, in fact I play it all the time. I think in this video, settings on the *S975* was purposely set to sound lousy to make SX900 sounding better...

your compare is not correct! i am an audio studio engineer, so its easy to hear that you set up higher level of bass to sx900 than to s p975, so the sound lf sxp900 is more voluminous, you should not think that your watchers are stupid!!
The 900 is naturally like that.
Voices quality if we mix it very well in any model it will come good it's depending on how you mix the Voices with effects psr sx 900 having 3 layers so one more we can add in 975 only 2 that's better other all things is with tuch screen we can use easily.. but using with user banks and user created styles it will come same quality according to user's experience and quality that's all..
