Thank you for one of the best Digital Accordion demos I’ve seen. I have a Roland FR4X Accordion, which I bought about four years ago, and am still enjoying playing and discovering new sounds. The Korg is a marvellous instrument especially in your hands.
Thanks for the demo Matthias. Korg has always made a good quality product and it's nice to see that there's a bit of competition in the accordion world for the Roland. Keep up the good work!
Surprisingly, it's not so much a rival for Roland accordions; it's more a continuation. The guy who developed this is the same guy who developed the Roland one. This is essentially an FR-9X
I'm so glad your video popped up on my feed. You are clearly having a lot of fun, and you make it look so easy (of course it's not). This instrument does seem to provide an overwhelming number of possibilities for expression.
Thanks a lot! Yes, the accordion in general has so many possibilities. In a digital world, that's the blast! I once met Jordan Rudess who listened to a demo of me playing a previous digital accordion and he was very interested. He said the only thing he misses, is pitch control - here we go now!
I wasn’t really up and running regarding digital accordeons haha! What an awesome instrument. It’s basically a multi-controller. And you did a superb demo of it, du bist beeinddruckend!
If somebody told me there exists a digital accordion with pitch bend, aftertouch and independent layering I would told them to stop inventing. Yet here we are and my mind is blown away.
Absolutely brilliant demo. The instrument is very well designed but your skills and taste have elevated it! By the way, I never thought KORG would be good at making digital accordions but here we are… But truth be told, I am not very fond of the brilliant black plastic.
Thanks so much! As a sound nerd, I wanted to dive way deeper into getting the best sound out of it, but just hat the FISA for a couple of hours. So I can't wait for a second round in October!
In the 1990s I met a MIDI accordion player, he added a plucked bass fiddle to the bass knobs and an acoustic guitar to the Chord knobs and so he could sound like a 3 men band and completely live. When he added some sounds to the melody side and some style accompaniment, it became a band with 6 and more people. Because the accordion isn't touch sensitive, it works the best with organ sounds, harpsichord and with everything with soft attack, as string ensemble, wood winds, brass and not so satisfying with piano.
Such things exists for about 20 years from Roland and it has the advantages, you can have 10 different kinds of accordions and an accordion with more registers isn't heavier. Also adding non Accordion sounds or doing the sound of a legendary Dutch accordion Duo.
Great demo. Is there any ability to import your own samples? I'm thinking of drum loops in particular or sound effects? It would be great to have say eight buttons dedicated to : 1. Intro rhythm 2. verse rhythm 3. pre chorus 4. chorus 5. drum riff into chorus 6.middle eight 7. final chorus 8. outro /end I wouldn't really want to be playing individual snare hits or timp rolls if they could be pre-assembled into a 'patch' that contained all of that already.
I wasn't able to check that, but I heard there is a possibility to do that with the audio player that can be assigned to keys. Will check it as soon as I have one!
I have a Roland V-Accordion and have always been disappointed this it didn't include a pitch bend feature because that would make it's use as a MIDI controller much better.
Yes!! I once played it for Jordan Rudess and he was very impressed and interested - except for the lack of pitch bend. Next generation of digital playing now 💪
seems like a real nice set up. much more modern.. can you reassign the bass notes and can you get an octave hight on the root note so when you want to do a cover that the bass has a note that is an octave higher you can have that option?
material like specific music sheets and tutorials using the different features would be highly appreciated, not everybody is equally talented and some of us need a bit of extra help with music sheets, tutorials...
This is incredible Matthias (from Josif). How does this digital accordion compare to other digital accordions you have played before? For example the Roland and the Bugari EVO? Are you planning to switch to this digital accordion now? Also, when will this be released for purchase?
Hey Josif!! I'll make an indepth comparison soon. You know, I love the Roland and Evo. The huge difference is the feeling: Keyboard and Bellows of the Korg are another level. In terms of orchestration and arranging, my first impression was, that Roland has more opportunities. Korg has better connectivity to my computer and MIDI environments though. I think, both have their place. Korg is more for those who want to have the best accordion feeling in a digital world.

It's like a theatre organ shoved into an accordion but the major issues with everything digital is that they can turn it into a subscription and prevent you from repairing it unlike acoustic instruments which you can make parts for hundreds of years after the manufacturer is gone. If they never try adding a subscription to it and sell the customer every part and repair manuals, this would be a wonderful thing. Being able to play every instrument in the orchestra means that you only have to learn one instrument to compose an entire symphony by yourself which I thought of doing with a digital organ but have decided to stick with only acoustic instruments for my actual recordings even if it means cramming two organs and a piano into my everything room.
