Thanks a lot for this valuable tutorial. 2 out of 6 I already know them : Personalising the owners name & the favourites voices & styles . The other 4 tips are completely new for me & I consider are very important to use specially the tip how to do the Blank registration & the touch screen calibration & how to use the Legacy set of voices . Your videos are very helpful for me & the way you explain the tips is very easy to understand .🎉

Thats a fab piece of information, thought I don't own one,I am thinking of upgrading my psr to sx900,and you guys at Epianos are so knowlegable and load up your instruments with extras...so thinking of buying one from you guys.
Thank you so much. Seriously thinking of buying a PSR-SX900 and this confirms what I think is a great instrument and one that is easy to learn as I want to upgrade from my old PSR1100.
Thank you very much indeed for this! Very helpful indeed. Very well explained, excellent speech sound quality....I give you 10 stars out of five for this one. Chris Mackey (80 yrs old today, got my sx900 one week ago...British ex pat, Mauritius.
Having created a Blank bank, it's extremely useful to then create a 'Vanilla' bank. Set any sounds into R1,2 and 3 and Left (the power-up defaults will do), you only need R1 selected for playing Set any style, and maybe choose Variation B (often more useful than A). Set your desired split point and fingering mode (if you don't want or need "1 Finger Chords", then I recommend setting it to AI Fingered Mode, as this is 'transparent' to 'normal' chords but will in time allow you to play chords like C/E or create your own bass lines). If you're going to use a style, press ACMP. Set a Multi Pad that's more useful than the default, I'd suggest Harpeggio 1 or 2. Set the balance between sounds and styles, 100 for everything looks neat but is seldom appropriate. While you're at it, set the keyboard touch to your preference - many keyboard players will use Soft 2. OK, with all that set up, memorise it into Registration Memory #1. Now save the bank (with just the one setting!) with a name like "AA Vanilla" or use the useful tip of putting the dash character in front of AA Vanilla. Now, when you want to set up registrations for a new song, start by loading in the Vanilla bank, safe in the knowledge that the keyboard is now set up how you like it, not how Mr Yamaha thinks you might! :) I've been doing this ever since we were able to store user memories/panel memories/registration banks (all the same thing) before keyboards came about! Vanilla banks always evolve over time, as you get more and more familiar with the instrument. My two main instruments are currently a Roland AT900 Platinum organ, Yamaha Genos (1) and PSR-S970. All have vanilla banks ready for me to use as starting points. Have fun!
Hello Andy, " Now save the bank (with just the one setting!)". However, all the other seven buttons will revert to the default unless you register those with your basic settings also. I use an FC7 volume control peddle and I want the touch off. Unless I register these to every button the kbd will revert to Articulation for the peddle and touch ON. Same with my FC5 which I use to step up through the registration bank, that will revert to the default. Very frustrating if a button is not registered for Volume control and the the kbd blahs out when you get to it. Regards, JennyB
I have just ordered the 920 based on your reviews (and one or two others TBH). I was advised to get a subwoofer (Yamaha KS-SW100) to give an even greater sound. Would you know the best location for the sub relative to the keyboard please?
Congratulations on your new PSR-SX920! 🎉 It's a fantastic keyboard, and adding the Yamaha KS-SW100 subwoofer is a great choice for enhancing the sound. As for placement, the best location for the subwoofer is typically on the floor near the keyboard. Position it slightly to the side (left or right) or underneath the keyboard stand, ensuring it's not obstructed. This setup allows the low frequencies to disperse evenly without overwhelming the main sound. Experiment a bit with the exact spot in your room to find where it sounds the most balanced. Enjoy your new setup! 😊🎹
Very useful information and neat video presentation. With these tons of info.., I would suggest you could change your name from 'Average Piano Guy' to 'Expert Piano Guy' and make us look average.. lol.. Cheers!
Thank you! If you mean a 'backup', which effectively saves the configuration of your keyboard to a single file, then yes, you can do that. You can see the process within this blog abot updating the firmware: www.epianos.co.uk/how-to-update-the-firmware-on-your-yamaha-genos/ If that's helpful, we've got loads more free keyboard support articles, videos, and more in our Newsroom page here: www.epianos.co.uk/newsroom/
Thank you Sir , very useful video for Yamaha sx series user. Please make a video for Expansion pack download process, there is no any useful video on this topic and nobody cleared the systemetic process, all are messing it up , like..... I've already downloaded it, you do this and that......... also for pre installed pack because it's disappear after installation of new pack. Please🙏🙏
I often perform live with my keyboard (PSR SX 900)out connected to speakers in front of audience and sometimes want to try something but can't make the sound go to speaker. Is there a way I can choose to send sound to my headphone for trials. Don't want to disconnect the speaker cables?
I just wished Yamaha would finally provide an update to correct the pesky bugs!!! And add some small new features that would be useful like for instance the chord tutor so it wouldn't only show the chord but also play it/demo it.
Is yamaha going to upgrade the firmware of sx900? its quite a shame that "fill in and breaks" cannot be recorded into the chord looper.... but if you create a MIDI file and insert them then it works...
ent,I’ve had the 900 for over a year,I’m in my 70s,totally lost as far as technology.I have also t Recently bought the Genos 2,I’ve learned a lot in a short time before I realized the have the same functions.Im having problems in both creating banks keeps telling me the are not properly loaded. Also the 4 buttons that are there to give extra sounds in addition to set sounds, can they be programmed with new sounds that can be kept rather than deleting when I go back to the main sound.Hope you can help with my problem. These tips you given are great.just remembered one more problem in the 900.The harmonizer does not turn of to mono in the main singing verse,is there a way to shut it off rather than using two microphones. Anyone who can help it will be really appreciated.Thank You for your understanding.Tom.
I have a general question for anyone who’s able to answer it: I work with someone who is blind, so he utilizes voice guide for his phone, which he can emphasize via Bluetooth speakers. In terms of the voice guide for the Yamaha PSR-SX900, I managed to acquire a flash drive to download the voice guide onto. However, when it comes to actually implementing this into the keyboard once the flash drive is plugged in, it seems we’ve both run into a dead end. Is there anyone that knows or might know how to complete this step? Unfortunately, there wasn’t much to the Vocal Guide Tutorial Manual on the Yamaha website. Plus, I was able to locate the Voice Guide menu under System in Utility, but after tinkering with the volume, controller, & sound, nothing is happening.
Great help, thank you. Happy are those who has bought his/her PSR-SX900 from this shop. Cheers!

I programmed after touch to Button A. But you could also program the touch keys on the display. Yamaha would have made a dedicated button for it.

You deleted the Big Bang registration and renamed it as Blank 2 but it still shows up. How is that possible?
AudioStyles do not work !! Why never fixed??
I would enter instead the name my E-mail address, so who finds it, can return it
How do you lose a keyboard, lol😂
Sadly you can only save 100 favorite sounds or styles
the favorite button options are the best ways before a long search
Tip 6 was very good..!
