So it seems running 100 miles in a week has become some sort of annual tradition. My 2020 - like many of yours - was nothing but setback after setback. Anxiety, injury, business, mourning, the chaos of the world - we experienced all of it. But we also found the incredible grace, support and energy of a global community right here in the GR Crew. It was this community that inspired me to tackle one last project before the end of what was a garbage year. Here's to another fulfilling 100 mile training week - run during the darkest and wettest week of the year, because 2020.
A HUGE thank you to my coach, David Roche, for his endless support & patience during this year and to my incredible wife for believing in me and having faith in my abilities when I did not.

Ethan, your honesty and positive attitude are once again to me, an inspiration. Rough year, and what you say resonates to so many, myself included. But your willingness to share your truth are such motivation. All the best in 2021. And thanks for the music as always, a constant on my playlists. Cheers from Nova Scotia, Canada!

Your last 100 mile video inspired me to have a go, along with seeing a pregnant 100 mile week in RW. I achieved my own 100 mile week this in June 2020, during lockdown, during a great weather spell in the UK. It was very much a mental challenge which, again, I detected from this vlog was your biggest challenge. Congratulations - now for my next 100 miler...

Ethan, that was one of the best running videos I have seen all year. So emotional and honest, just pure and surely relating to a lot of runners out there. 🙌

You ran this 100 mile week faster by an hour than last year's 100 mile week! It shows you that you are always capable of more than you think. You inspired me to do my own 100 mile week, Nov. 30 - Dec. 6, 2020. Like you had bad weather, in Toronto, we had rain, snow, lots of wind during my 100 mile week. It made finishing that much more special. Thank you for your inspiration and congratulations on your week and year. You didn't disappoint.

No way. You posted this right after I capped off a 122 mile week with a 5hr 22min 33 miler (only 4100 ft of gain on relatively smooth trail, but still pretty good for me).. Pretty cool timing and a great way to end 2020 and/or kick off 2021.
Just checked what December looked like on my Coros for shits and giggles. Looks like I've put in 413 miles since the 2nd and I have a run streak still going since thanksgiving. If you cant tell I'm really proud of myself. Proud enough to take a couple days off.

  • @perdomot

This video came at the perfect time for me. Barely ran in 2020 and my weight jumped up 40 lbs because of my lack of exercise and food control so seeing you run despite how you feel made me motivated to do a very short run of 1.5 miles to see how my knees are doing. Always been a 3-5 miler myself so I figured this should be no problem and I did do it but way slower than normal. I know it sounds weird but just that short run makes me feel like I can get back into running and bring my weight back down again. If Ethan can do 20 miles, I can sure get back to my short runs. Thanks for the motivation dude.

Can’t believe it’s been a year since the last one.. 2020 has been a blur.. and after what turned out to be a positive running experience for me when the lockdown started with fantastic weather here with lovely quiet trails full off emerging wild life.. has ended up with long term lockdown and a body with aches and tiredness not allowing me to run properly, and ironically questioning being able to do 2021 race challenges planned, if the lockdown ever goes away., which is affecting me more than the initial lockdown. Well done with you 100 again! We can do this! 👍🏼
Oh, and Happy New Year to you two!

I loved this video. It was super inspiring. I too had a year of crappy running. I started off the year training for Boston and when that was cancelled I lost all my motivation. I took a few weeks off running completely and then got inspired during the summer to do my first run streak which lasted over 60 days. Then I got shingles in September which forced another break and now I'm back running but it has just been exercise rather than training. I'm ready to get back to the grind now and regain some of my fitness and speed and set the target of qualifying for Boston all over again. I think I may add a weekly mileage goal to my list of targets for 2021 too. Maybe not 100 but 80 or so. Thanks for the inspiration. Way to go on your 100 miles. 👏

Nice stuff yet again - loving all the good Deceptions of Light and Shadow music throughout - I am assuming the goal video is out soon so looking forward to it - I think you have inspired me to give this 100 mile week thing a go as a goal this year(of course with coach approval) I am actually pretty pleased with how the year went distance wise - I ended the year with 2040 miles and was really thrilled with that # and all the work I did getting consistent again with my running.

For some reason this was one of my all-time favourite GR pieces; its personal and approachable, but read between the lines and its also a chance to see that you're looking and sounding rather buoyant, and for someone that has followed for some years and vicariously ridden your rollercoaster it's heartwarming in a 'my kid done good' sort of way. So...more please...just whenever....whatever. Hugs bro.

Thank you, Ethan. Your approach to running for the joy of it and the love of the trails has motivated me in my recent (most important) years of running. Since time ago I acquired your music and it has been along my running journeys, thus it was so nice to get to see how your 100-mile week went while listening again the (background) tracks that brought be to many trails as well. Man man man, that was awesome! Congratulations, that is no easy accomplishment. First off, thank you for showing off the PNW as always. I spent my first 35+ years there and there’s not much like it. Sure it gets cold and gloomy and wet and depressing sometimes, but having been away in Florida for the last few years, there’s nothing I want more than to be home. Thankfully in a couple months I get to be back and can’t wait to show my little boys a
how amazing it is to grow up in such a special place. You showcased EXACTLY how it is and I can’t wait to shiver all over again!
Secondly, I appreciate at the end of day 5 you nonchalantly said “ what’s the point?” And you don’t even have to explain it. As many runners have said the same thing, it goes without saying why... We just do. Thank you, Ethan. Great vid

Awesome work Ethan (running and the video production). Thank you so much for creating the GR Crew. It has been instrumental in helping me through last year.

Those strings at 2:37 remind me, and no doubt many others, of many runs. They have helped float so many km's and miles on by. Cheers Ethan.

Cheers for a moral boost to get me out and started in this new year (Christmas stagnation syndrome had set in) for more running to prepare for races and the year ahead 🏃👍☺

Hey Ethan, congratulations man! After have disconnected from running for the most part for a few years, I feel the urge to get back into it. Great way to start off is watching the person that inspired and motivated my first ultras. Congratulations again my friend.

Love this! Congratulations! You have inspired me to run a long distance week. I turn 56 in April, I will run 56 miles that week. It will be a stretch since my weekly mileage is closer to 25. I hope to attempt 100 someday. Thanks for the inspiration, hope you are well!

Thank you very much for your inspiration. One of my favourite runs of the year was this one. Watched last years run and that ignited the fuse for me to take on and conquer this challenge. Thank you so much for your go get attitude and I’ll say it again. Ginger runner rocks. ❤️

Started watching your channel during the pandemic when I was looking for a new pair of running shoes. So encouraged by your videos. This video has prompted me to set new goals for my running for 2021. So appreciate the reminder that we often overestimate what we can accomplish in the short term and underestimate what we can accomplish over the long haul. Here's to the long haul for 2021. Ended up getting the Rincon 2 by the way. Thanks for the recommendation.
