Awesome! I watched this before I completed my first 10K yesterday. I came in last but I finished. I am going to keep going because I know the next time it's going to be even better.
Can't wait to see you guys run the New York Marathon! This weekend will be my first marathon. It's because of you shay and the Ginger Runner I am doing it! I lost 30 pounds with your help Shay and got my motivation to push the miles from Ethan! Thank You guys! Wineglass Marathon (Bath, NY TO Corning, NY) here I come!!!!!
Shay, you inspired me to start running marathons, which led to running ultras. Changed my life. Ethan, you keep me educated and motivated to move forward. Love it, dudes!
I shared this with my Facebook feed. I'm training for my first half marathon in May, but everyone keeps doubting me because I weigh over 300 pounds. I've ran a bunch of 5 and 10k at heavier weights, but I'm ready to fully change my diet, lose the weight and become the runner I know I can be. My doctor has cleared me, but people still think and say I can't do it, and I was starting to believe them. This video pulled me out of a really bad funk. Thanks for your brutal realness and honesty. This is such a beautiful video. You are a huge inspiration! #trainracebeer
Drummer Gamer I hope you did it mate? I was 220 pounds when I started running last year. Ran my first half in September (in under 2 hours) and ran my first sub-50 min 10K this past Sunday. I’ve come a long way. It’s pretty emotional to say the least.
"Everyone has passed me and I don't care" absolutely love that mentality. I don't care if you are super fast Fit and skinny. I don't care if you are super slow dead and overweight. If you are out on the trails, roads, and gyms and putting in work... you are absolutely amazing and getting victories daily. KEEP. IT. UP.
Hands down THE most motivating running film I've seen. This was probably my tenth time watching it and afterwards I still feel like jumping out the door for a long run. Anytime I need a reminder of why I run, I come back to this. The opening monologue... Freaking powerful. Thanks again Ethan!
This has got to be your greatest accomplishment in racing so far. Running either race is amazing. But to run 50 miles and then turn around the next day and run the 50k, I can't even imagine. I ran my first 1/2 marathon last year and it took me three days to return to walking normally again.
You probably dont give a damn but does anyone know a trick to log back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot my login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Beau Kyle Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im in the hacking process now. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
The opening scene alone had me in tears. This video made me feel like I wasn't alone in the way I feel about running, like "yes I'm not the only one who feels the way I do" and... I'm just at a loss for words. Thank you so much for this.
Dude, this is still my favorite video of yours. It took a mild interest I had in running and turned it into a solid passion to run an ultra. Your recent movies have been great, but I wish you still made movies like this. I love seeing a regular guy achieving something amazing and surprising himself. Thanks for everything you do for the running community.
Mark from Ireland here.Love the film of Squmaish 50/50 hats of to you. It was so inspirational.Congratulations to all the ultra runners who took part.Ethan don't stop running all the best.Mark,
Thank you UA-cam algorithm for putting this back in front of me! After all these years Ethan @thegingerrunner is still turning out amazing content and has nurtured an inspiring community!
Isn't it weird how this actually makes us want to get out there and do more, push ourselves more, suffer more to get to higher achievements in our running!!! Thank you for sharing your suffering with us and still inspiring us even all these years later!!! Even at my modest level of running, I live with that doubt every single run... and I just keep putting one foot in front of the other anyway!! THANK YOU Ethan.
Well done sir! As a fellow 50/50 finisher I can relate to the extreme range of emotions and experiences displayed in this film. I now know that any time i want to relive the Squamish 50/50 experience I can watch this and the memories will come flooding back...so all I can say is, thank you Mr. Newberry!
The lessons we learn is the track that I now warm up to and really gets me in the mood to run. Fantastic documentary and great soundtrack. It’s all on Spotify under the Ginger Runner.
Best running film I have ever seen! All your videos have inspired me start running again after taking 3 years off while my wife and I had 2 kids. After watching this video, I decided to sign up for the Eugene Springfield inaugural Marathon and get serious about running again. The raw emotion expressed in this film truly captured the highs and lows of bringing your body to its limits....and then breaking through those limits! Thank you for creating and sharing such wonderful art with all of us. You are a true inspiration to the running community and to the dreamers who one day hope to finish a 50/50. Now I am going to watch the video a 4th time and tell everyone I know to go watch it!
Dude, you are THE MAN and a true inspiration. Training for my first 50K, post heart by-pass surgery. Doing this for me and you are one heck of an inspiration.
Possibly my most favorite film of all-time hands down! The editing is better than some big budget movies and the content is great. Always a treat when you release new films. They are always so inspiring and always make me want to go running! Keep up the amazing work!
From someone who has been watching since you first started, it is amazing how far you have come. Not only as an athlete but your videos as well. The quality of vids has come so far. You continue to out do yourself Ethan!
Very cool how you were wearing the finishers hat in the opening but it wasn't obvious until the end. Very professional work here I like the commentary about what was going through your mind out on the trails. No longer consider this a "video" this one is definitely a film. Killer job!
I hope you know you're inspiring hoards of people. From the young to the old. To the fit to the not so fit. You reminded me that just getting out there is half the fun. Thank you.
Wow, man. Never thought a film about some dude I've never met running in some race I've never heard of would make my eyes sweat. Amazingly inspiring. I'm preparing for my first half...but like you, I doubted it would ever happen. Great stuff.
I really love how the finish line slo-mo segment demonstrates your discussion of doubt, illustrating that horrifying feeling you get when that gate comes into view: the excitement, the butterflies, the elation...fighting against the pain, the fatigue, and the crippling doubt that reminds you--unto the VERY last step--that you still...STILL might not actually cross that line. It must be so much more intense after that distance, too. Well captured, Ethan. Congrats on your finish, too! Thanks for the inspiration! I'll toe up for another marathon in a couple of weeks, doubt in my mind, embracing it this time, crushing it with every stride. (And then go have a big-ass sammich and a beer!)
Been racing in ultras for almost 2 years and even completed a successful Bob Graham round. And I still come back to this video for motivation to get out and run.
I am and will be embracing doubt for my first ultra, coming up later this month. Thank you so much for your hard work and inspiration. Fucking incredible!
+TheGingerRunner I've watched this video a couple times and it's probably one of the better motivational running videos you've produced. The way you show the lows of running and how you push through them to overcome the daemons and sour stomach encourage me to get out there and push through. Thanks Ethan!
That is just beautiful. Beautiful. I just registered for my first mountain race (half marathon). I have a feeling that this video is going to be my closest companion in the training process. Thank you Ethan. Thank you. You're THE MAN.
You captured the essence of what everyone goes through running an ultra whether trail or road. I could feel the pain of your feet; I too have known that hurt far too many times. Super accomplishment Ginger!
Amazing video. A little over two weeks ago I lost vision in my right eye due almost having a stroke and spent several days in the hospital. I love to trail run and have participated in a North Face half, but I have had doubts about even trying to trail run again with my limited vision. But after watching this video, I am going to get back off my ass and get back out in the woods. Thank you for being awesome!
I watched this yesterday and ran a trail marathon today. Felt terrible from miles 13 to 19, but I remembered this and just kept plugging along, hoping it would get better. And what do you know, it did! Finished strong and had a great day. Thanks for the motivation!
A Huge Houra from France !!!!!!!! You're a inspiration !!! The music, the video, just perfect!!!! And a hell of a runner! Preparing my first 85k with 15000ft + elevation, I was looking videos on ultras from insiders. I think I've found a true one!
This is so inspirational. It makes me want to work even harder to accomplish something even half as cool at this. Great job, Ethan. Next time you're in the area, hit me up for a beer, yeah? :)
My race today got cancelled due to weather. So I rewatched this for the , lost count, and it made me want to get out and run in the morning. Onwards to the next race. Thanks GR.
So inspiring, Ethan. Your tenacity, in the face of adversity, encourages me. I feel like I can do anything! Thank you for sharing this video. I am going to keep losing weight, and get down to my goal weight of 130. I know I can do it! You help me keep moving forward, even when it seems impossible.
Amazing video man! I saw you at the start of the 50k, after watching your vids leading up to the race... have to say I was a little star struck... 'Hey it's the Ginger Runner, running right beside me... Cool!' Way to take on the 50/50, seriously impressive!
Hi Ethan. I've had a youtube account for years now, and I've been watching your videos for a while. I've never been bothered to comment on a video. Ever. But this video is so special. You've captured something really important about the human condition. Our doubts, our fears, and all the stuff we can't really capture in words. Watching this made me cry, it made me want to hug and thank my fiancee for all her support of me (like the way you and Kim support each other). At the end of the day, it makes me want to take on life a little more, even with all my deep seated, unavoidable doubts. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
I couldn't keep my eyes open long enough last night to wait for it, but watched it first thing at 4am when I got up to head out to Sweat Camp. You are so inspiring! I cried a couple times as you shared your frustrations & pain. Will carry your words (and music) with me through my 2nd ever half marathon this weekend! Thanks for sharing your journey with all of us.
I loved this film, and it's sentiment: embrace doubt. Eighty-two miles in a 48 hour period is an accomplishment to be sure. You should have felt euphoric and proud. Now think about what Scott Jurek pulled off over the last 46+ days. A trail ultra every day from Georgia to Maine. Something like 515,000 feet elevation change in 2189 miles.
This popped into my feed today. I’ve been thinking for the past three days about dropping out of a 50k next weekend. This is exactly the video I needed to help me commit to running it. Thank you!!
New to the channel, and just was trolling around and found this one. Great video, super inspirational and completely agree with you about Doubt. Ran my first 55K this fall and it was a incredible experience. The one thing that I came to the realization after running it was, although it is one race it truly is all the runs that preceded it. All the hours of getting up early, running in crappy weather, running when I didn’t feel like running, running when everything was total crap at that moment in my life. Running that race was a culmination of so many hours, tears, pain, training, Joy, beauty, peace and love, and of course doubt.
Just what I need as I prepare to run the Chicago Marathon this weekend & NYC Marathon in 3 weekends (possibly w/ a stress fracture). We're runners, we're crazy & we love it.
How is it your race videos always make me cry? Seeing you cross the finish line, it was just amazing. Thank you for inspiring us all to embrace the doubt and kick its ass! :)
You sir are a true inspiration. If this doesn't motivate someone to go out and achieve their goals, nothing will. Keep it up and congratulations on the amazing accomplishment!
Dude. been waiting for this video since you started releasing the training vids...you did not disappoint. great job working extremely hard on the road and video. As a 41 yr old USAF vet that has done a lot you inspire me to get off my butt and keep challenging myself...you rock
Hi from New Zealand. Just got into trail running myself and building up with 21kms the biggest so far in my short runners life. At 44 years of age I am stoked at discovering trail running before I got too old for it. Have switched to Hoka's so thanks also for the reviews. Love all your videos. Keep going buddy!
GR, this beautifully edited docudrama on your startlingly successful Squamish 50/50 2014 race is a brilliant piece of filmmaking, art & astonishing motivation. I’m certain all runners who have the opportunity to take in this magnificent chronicle of your extraordinary August weekend will become emotional while viewing. Thank you! for all you do for our sport seems a trifle accolade perhaps however heartfelt & genuine.
TOOOOOOPPPPPPPPP!!! Congratulation Ginger! You are the best! All the time so motivational, emotional and epic... like your SQUAMISH 50/50... Nico from Italy
Great watch. Love "The Doubt" monologue and it truly is inspiring. After watching this I think I *will* sign up for the silly race next year that I've been contemplating although I doubt I'll be able to finish it. I guess I'll have to find out.
Just sensational! I love that you put your heart out there and truly show what it means to you. Inspirational to say the least. Thanks mate, just awesome!
Awesome! I watched this before I completed my first 10K yesterday. I came in last but I finished. I am going to keep going because I know the next time it's going to be even better.
leticiabradford
You keep going my dear...nothing but love and mad support for you...you can do it.
I'm training for my first 10k watching this! So cool that you did it! I will probably come in last but I'll still be proud to have done it.
Leticia Bradford so, 4 years on. Update please :)
Leticia Bradford good job Leticia
This guy makes me wanna run all day, all night. So inspiring.
SO good! Watched every second. So motivated. I cried.

Every time I feel sore or down about my training or a race I keep going back to this video and feel inspired after watching. Thank you Ethan.
Don’t know how many times I’ve watched this as well as your other videos, and, I never get tired of them. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
"Everyone has passed me and I don't care" absolutely love that mentality. I don't care if you are super fast Fit and skinny. I don't care if you are super slow dead and overweight. April 2019, preparing for my first marathon at 47 years old, thanks for the inspiration.

Wow, this was great! Keep it up!!!
This looks fun. It would be worth finishing just to meet Gary Robbins

@Clayton Lyric happy to help =)
5 years later and I still am watching this for inspiration and to evoke the fighting spirit I need.
You are a wizard Ginger Runner !
This is so beautiful and moving! So proud of you babe! You inspire so many people, including myself!
Love you, babe! Can't wait for 3 weeks from now :)

Run, eat, pub repeat!
Life started when I started running! ~ great film!!!

Running 82 miles in two days in BC is extremely tough, no doubt, but it was your unrelenting spirit that was more inspirational than the feat itself!
Well done sir! As a fellow 50/50 finisher I can relate to the extreme range of emotions and experiences displayed in this film. "Technically I can do this. Physically...I'm gonna do my best."
Best quote of the film! Very inspiring!
The across the face slow-mo shots with the stick in the middle of the forest are so epic! Also cried like a baby during this, thanks Ethan!
Keep coming back to this.

I just registered for my first mountain race (half marathon). I have a feeling that this video is going to be my closest companion in the training process.
Thank you Ethan. Thank you. You're THE MAN.
Boom! Great film Ethan! It's been awesome to follow your journey over the last few years. Thanks for sharing!
Your inspiration helps to erase my doubts, the doubts that I can't do this thing they call running. DANG IT, I WILL CRUSH MY DOUBTS! Thank You!
You captured the essence of what everyone goes through running an ultra whether trail or road. I could feel the pain of your feet; I too have known that hurt far too many times. Super accomplishment Ginger!

Still the best running video on the internet. Period.
Such a great video. Still the gold standard for sweet running videos

At the end of the day, it makes me want to take on life a little more, even with all my deep seated, unavoidable doubts. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
Hell. Yes. Thank you for commenting and I hope you grab life by the horns (or balls) and enjoy every second.
I couldn't keep my eyes open long enough last night to wait for it, but watched it first thing at 4am when I got up to head out to Sweat Camp. You are so inspiring! How could this video or any of his videos for that matter have any dislikes?? Rock on!! I love watching his and mile long legs videos !

Wow, great running. I'm doing my first ultra in less than two weeks and watching your videos is awesome :-)
How is it your race videos always make me cry? Seeing you cross the finish line, it was just amazing. Thank you for inspiring us all to embrace the doubt and kick its ass! :)
It's ok! I was crying multiple times IN the video, haha!
I had goose bump when u finished both races. I can only imagine that feeling. Thank you for such inspiration.
You sir are a true inspiration. If this doesn't motivate someone to go out and achieve their goals, nothing will. Keep it up and congratulations on the amazing accomplishment!
Dude....Admirable!!! That finish...worth every tear spent!!! You ROCK!
Great job for both run and the film. For sure that will be one of those I'll watch before my next races.
In my opinion, the best film you have made to date. Simply stunning. Congrats Ethan!
This film is AWESOME!!! In Europe we'd say "chapeau"!!! Thanks GingerRunner

This video is a true treasure to anyone thinking of doing an ultra. Thanks a ton Ethan. Just an incredible film throughout.
challenge, drama, action and beautiful picture. You jist made an awesome movie Ethan. You inspire many of us to continue running.
Still the best video every done by The Ginger. It realy hit me everytime i watch it. Simple the best.
Ethan, I didn't come here to cry and be inspired I came here for cat videos.
But seriously, amazing video and even more amazing accomplishment.
This is one of the best running films I've seen in a while. You never fail to inspire Ethan!! Keep it up!!! Amazing

Appreciate the kind words, Craig! Thank you!
