Lightweight beach items to pack: bit.ly/SpringBreakBeach2024
A few nights ago, I had a dream that an acquaintance of mine asked me to quickly pack my carryon bag for a sudden trip to London. I was scurrying around trying to think what Laurie would pack.
Laurie, I'm sure you won't remember this, but a little over a year ago, I commented on one of your videos saying I was headed to Houston for a job interview to be a Missions Pastor. I really didn't want to move away from friends/family, and I wasn't sure about living in TX. You responded very kindly, of course:)
Well, now I'm almost 11 months into that job. It's been absolutely amazing. Words can't express how good of a year it has been.
Now to the travel related news:
All in the first half of 2024, I'll be traveling to Greece, Honduras, Rwanda, and Jamaica.
As always, I get great travel tips from you. Thank you!
Eeeek so exciting! I hope it’s all great. Wow Greece?
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Yes! Our church has a long-time partner chirch there. I'm so excited to go see how they do ministry there for about 2 weeks! 💙
Something for when you do hotel tips: On work trips, I purchase food at a local supermarket rather than going out for every meal. Check the temperature on the fridge in the room. I've had some frozen salads and fruit before I got in the habit of checking to make sure the temp is set to a medium setting. I keep my partially used hotel soaps and when leaving, wrap them in one of the cellophane wrappers from the paper coffee cups. I'll never have to buy soap at the store again!
I’ve been doing this! Those soaps just end up in the trash. What a waste! I’m using them up at home. 👍🏻🧼
The hotel soap work great to clean makeup brushes! They also work well with stains. I don’t know why but it works.
That’s what I do. Keeps me healthy, too!
Great tips! I also bring a silk pillow case, but may I suggest to bring a brightly colored one so you don't forget it. I thought I lost one once because hotel staff had put a pillow case over mine (it was off-white), now I make sure mine looks very different from hotel bedding.
I swear by merino wool socks. I only bring 3 pair regardless of the length of my trip. Hand wash, blot on a towel and they will be dry the next day.
Thanks for sharing!!
I saw another UA-camr have a leopard print one for travel cos it was so easy to see when you do a room check.
Your recommendations save me money by not buying the wrong thing over and over. Thanks.
Cost me money 😂
Australian here, the Airplane pocket are wonderful, we need to take 2, 3 or 4 flights to go overseas. So I leave everything in the pockets and just flip the table flap over to keep everything together.
Oh that is so smart!!!
I love mine, too.
My husband would love to see tips for men. We love to watch! Thank you Laurie!
Thanks!!
If you need waterproof shoes or boots try the brand Vessi. All of their shoes are waterproof. They have added several more styles since I ordered my boots, which are very comfortable. Love your videos.
A quick note about your disposable poncho tip: you can order multiple packs of "survival ponchos" that are made of the same stuff as the space blankets but fit like the disposable rain ponchos. They are almost as cheap, almost as compact, and can really hold in the body heat. I always keep one in my car's glove box, and it has been a life saver during a very lengthy (like, overnight and through most of the next day)shut down of a jammed highway.
I just do not know how you survive for that long. Why do your roads shut down for so long?
It is not a regular occurrence, but has been known to happen in a bad winter storm. It's rare, but it happens. I did once spend around 13 hours (or was it 17? It was a long time ago.) stuck in deep snow when they closed down the highway in Buffalo, NY. It was on the highway from the crossing from Canada into the US at the Buffalo crossing, and the border guards did not tell people the highway was closed up ahead. It's rare, but most Canadians outside of BC have at some time or other been stuck in the snow in their vehicle. When you grow up in a country where the weather can kill you half the year, you learn early to be prepared!! You could live for a month on what I normally carry in my car.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie
Hi Laurie, I have been watching you for years, I think you had 30k subscribers. You haven’t changed a bit and your advice is always spot on. I never tire of watching your videos. i don’t do so much travel as I live at the bottom of the world but when I do, I always follow your advice, it’s really worked out. thank you
Thanks so much for saying hi again!
Yes to the Men's packing tips. We're flying more often and I tend to be the pack mule between us and some ideas that are more "manly" will influence him more than my suggestions.
I feel like that sometimes lol.
Holy cow … what a jam packed video. As a 47 yo mom of 3 that’s about to take her 11 yo to London … there wasn’t a minute of this video I didn’t find helpful. Well done, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Best lumbar hack for your back - I used a 3x9 zipper soft pack with a large scarf rolled in it. It's perfect for those uncomfortable airport/airplane seats. No more back aches!
Great tip for that airplane seat!
Yes to the men’s packing tips video. This was another good one, Laurie. Btw that “NASA” phone pouch can also be used to save your phone’s battery in very cold weather, too.
Yes! It's hard to explain so much about items without people losing interest.
I love your videos Laurie. May I recommend trying a new crossbody for one trip? The Kipling Alvar bag is very thin and lightweight, but can fit way more than your favourite crossbody (which I also have) in its 5 zippered pockets. It is so easy to roll up and pack in the smallest empty space, but you would be astounded at what it will hold (I call it my "Tardis bag." (Fellow Dr. Who nerds will understand what I'm talking about!)
Just spent 15 mins looking at them-GREAT! Is there a zippered pocket inside? Looks like several types but the longest regular one is 13" long? Anyway, thanks again!
The regular (largest) size is the one I use, flat and empty it is just slightly larger all round than a normal sheet of printer paper. The front of the two largest pockets has two open pouch pockets inside, the back of the two main sized ones has a sizeabale zippered pocket, lots of room for my wallet and passport. Since I live in a border city, I often cross into the US to shop, and I like this purse because it lies flat against my body and is easy to keep under my jacket or sweater, making pickpocketing much harder (an important factor when the bit of the US you live beside is Detroit!)@@TravelTipsbyLaurie
I have those Boca clips for my beach towel, but then discovered large laundry clips at dollar tree. I think their in a 6 pack. I also learned to clip only one side like you do.
Until watching your videos, I was only aware of regular packing cubes, which I can roll my clothes in to pack more. Now I am going to buy the compression cubes for my trip to Paris in June with my mother.
I also bought that stripped backpack you showed in another color and got it on sale for $20 at Amazon. Thanks for all the great advice.
I have the Merrell hiking boot! In case anyone is wondering, they do start to feel heavy on the feet after a long day of walking. I wore mine on (approx 6 miles) hikes and my feet were very tired at the end of the hike not just from the distance walked but from the weight of the shoes. I start noticing the weight of the shoe during the last few miles back to the trail head and the weight slowed me down
So much in one video, wonderful! One of your best hacks is the bar soap or bar shampoo bag. It is fabulous, toss in a wet slimy bar with no worries about it leaking. Love it.
I always look forward to (and never miss) your tips!
As I get ready to go to Patagonia for my daughter’s wedding we are struggling not only with space but also with weight. Some airlines weight everything and personal bag has to be under 3 kilos! Maybe you can do a “favorite bags that don’t weigh a lot” kind of videos. Loove your ideas, I am over 50, I carry my own fan, some planes got rid of ventilation after COvid, I always bring it with me 😂
Check a bag and enjoy your whole experience!
I am crazy for pouches! Use them to organize everything! Thanks Laurie for all these tips!
LOVE your content! I’ve purchased so many of your travel product recommendations & they’re perfect. Especially the Level 8 suitcase-a game changer!
Glad you like them! These are the best of my best, but I think all of my items are great lol.
Yes, a video to pass along to the dudes in my life would be AWESOME!
Yay it is in the editing phase
I always learn something new, or see a different perspective from each of your videos!
Thank you so much for sharing ❤ very helpful, I'm sharing this with many people.
These are great, yes, to the men’s list😊
Yes to men's packing tips. We will be traveling to the UK this fall.
Yes please, the men's travel packing tips would be very welcomed. Another great video Laurie.
Great ideas Laurie, thanks for all the tips
You are so welcome!
I have started to put my conditioner in a plastic straw. Seal 1 end with a flame. Fill the straw and seal the other end. I do individual one's about 2" in length.
I just bought your tee shirt with stamps on it in navy!! I like that.
Great tips; thank you!
Great video as you have so many of your tips in one place.
Yes, please, for the Men's video.
Please yes make a men’s video! Please address t-shirts ( undershirts). My husband insists on taking one for each day!
I still have my phone prop. It has worked so well for myself and my daughter 👍🏾
Thank you for the travel essential video. I love all of your choices. I also have the Level 8 carry on with the front pocket, I love the roll , handle, packing cubes, but I hate that it is so heavy, I can hardly lift it over my head to put it in the overhead bin.
Hi Laurie, I’m new to your channel but just love all your suggestions. I haven’t traveled on airplane in many years and knew I needed help with all the new regulations since I traveled last. You are breath of fresh air. Thanks for all your help with my packing for my upcoming trip to Hawaii. 💜💜💜
Oh thank you so much!
You did a great job !
Great tips
❤❤ there’s the red!!! So nice!!! ❤❤🎉🎉
Too kind!
Thanks for all the wonderful tips! We would also love to see tips for the guys! Thanks!
Hi, it should be out Sunday evening!
Headed to Ireland in 2 weeks. Your travel hacks are going to be so helpful. From Louisiana, so we are neighbors 😊
What a wonderful video packed full of super tips and hacks. I always learn something new.
A man’s packing tips video would really be helpful. Look forward to your next one 😎
Awesome! Thank you!
I purchased the Blondo Shanna waterproof bootie to take on our Christmas River Boat cruise this past November/December thinking I might wear them a few times. Boy, was I ever glad I did as we had snow and slush to deal with 90% of the time. Unfortunately they don’t provide warmth (bought some heavier socks) but my feet stayed dry! Lifesaver. We did quite a bit of walking and it wasn’t bad even though I prefer less of a heel normally.
Yes, I hear you! I walked in mud just this weekend with them and it had poured too! But no I could not walk for all day with them.
Laurie, you looked so fabulous in your travel photos! ❤
Oh thank you!
I just received my Hello Shirt. It is awesome.
Yay!
Thankyou, Laurie
You are so fun to listen to.😁I have purchased all your beach items 🌞and have learned so much about packing…
I am working on not packing so many clothes. 🤦♀️ I do have a coat that has too deep outside pockets, two hand pockets and two inside pockets that I fill too.
Enjoy your journey in life and keep spreading your sunshine.. 🌞
Thanks so much Mary!!
Red plaid is my favorite color.
Thanks Laurie😘😘
You are so welcome!
Hi I really learn a lot from your videos. Thanks so much. I can't remember the one you talked about pain in ears. I had pain so bad I didn't fly for yrs. I asked the doctor finally what it was. Now I have hole put in my eardrum and don't have the problem. I might sound drastic, but it works. I'm too old for long road trips. This made me able to enjoy plane rides.
Oh yes, I think that would solve alot of my runny nose issues. Glad you got relief!
excllent advice as usual. Loved the beach phone cover!!! Laurie, you make me spend so much money🤔
So glad! Oh, I hear ya!
Hello from Kansas! I purchased the 2-pr glasses case that you recommended , which I use for my prescription glasses & sunglasses. I put the sunglasses on the yellow (sunny) side and my regular glasses on the other side. Very handy and really sturdy.
Oh that's a smart way!
Yes Laurie, I would like to see more packing ideas for men.
Hi Laurie, Thank you for your channel! I binge watch your videos. You are so cute and have so many useful tips. Thank you! I have a travel tip for washing clothes in the sink while traveling. Detergent sheets. They are light and easy to pack because they are like paper sheets. You can tear them to the size you need when washing socks or a tshirt. I pack the sheets in a quart size baggie and they are perfect for light traveling. I look forward to many more of your travel tips. 😍
Thanks for sharing; I have not tried those yet. Is there a strong fragrance?
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie They have unscented available. :)
My husband likes packing cubes esp the Eagle Creek quick trip toiletry bag with carabiner to hang. His capsule wardrobe is layers in blue and gray, esp gray jeans. Using the 6 hr drip test wet to dry, he prefers Untucked shirts and shorts. Performance Tshirts dry fast. The Ecco leather sneakers with arch inserts and Keen Newport sandals with smartwool socks go on every trip. We use detergent leaves and tear off what we need. We do laundry in a jumbo ziploc, take 2 flat hangers, and laundry clips I’ve made from last years meeting lanyards ( wish I could attach a picture)
I have the airplane pockets and they are great!
The tray table cover with pockets?
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Yes. I love that I can cover the table (who knows when it was last cleaned properly), the pockets keep you from having to reach into the pocket on the back, and if you have to pack up quickly, you can just grab it and go and you'll have all your stuff.
@@marcellaembry7062 that’s a great last point!
I finally found a curling iron made for the plugs in Europe. I don’t need to pack the converter. So happy!
Yay! I just bought one a couple weeks ago and it works great here.
Thanks so much for all the helpful tips and videos. We are going to Europe for the first time. San Antonio to Barcelona, then on to cruise ship for 10 days. We are used to flying to Cancun airport, but this tips will surely help
So happy for ya'll!
I love anticipating my travel with you. Did I miss it or did you forget to tell us which gloves you loved. Lol
Looks like you were in Banff! We were there in 2018 and took the gondola, too. We hiked all over and went to the beautiful aqua lakes and walked on the glacier! Can’t wait to go back and take our sons and grandchildren. My fave hiking pants are from Prana and look nice enough for restaurants. I’m 5’9” and have trouble finding long pants, but Prana has different inseams. Love your tips!
Ooh thank you. Yes we absolutely loved Banff and Calgary. Just found these and want to buy every one. They are 32" long: bit.ly/3wFM2MG
Unlike the Stanley. Nice. Yer adorable 😊
I love travelling with my minkeeblue. Hide clothes in the bottom and plenty of room for the rest.
The washi tape hack has saved the day many times for me. Thank you🎉
I love mine!
Love your videos❤️
Thank you!
Love your videos! Can you do a video about packing light in a lightweight carry-on? I'm learning that airlines are now weighing carry-on suitcases
New to watching, great info. I also like tote bags!!
Oh that Nomad Lane one is beautiful! And I'm usually a backpack gal.
I use laundry sheets for my regular laundry, but found they were handy for a cruise I took in October. They pack flat and don't need to go in your liquids bag.
Love it!
Laurie, you did such a great job putting all of this together on one video! Thank you so much for this! We wear Merrell shoes too, they do last a long time and are so comfy! Thanks again!
I really like using pouches
They are so helpful!
The Matador soap bag really works and it's great for trips with many different legs - I can pack it right after a night shower, put it in my toiletry bag, and not have to remember to get it out of the shower when leaving for a 6am flight (so . . . 2 or 3 in the morning). I have a small 2oz spray bottle (with the long trigger) which I keep empty when flying and put a little bit of curl cream or leave-in conditioner (from a 2 or 3oz bottle) with water when I get to my hotel (or even just after we land if I'm going right to an event) and shake up to use - it's great for doing my hair when it's already dry with the added water and that stretches the cream/conditioner to last for several weeks.
I really love it!
Your videos are prepping us for our 9-day Mediterranean cruise out of Barcelona. Please do a video for men. My boyfriend would appreciate this for his first international flight and cruise. Thank you!
Hi I have one that should have popped up when I was asking about it. Great tips but older
Great video. Its great to see a real person, my age making relatable videos!! I'm headed to Paris for mother's day and I just got a really nice blow dryer brush and I don't know how I lived without it! Would I be able to use in Paris with a conversion plug?
Hi and yay! You’ll need a converter. Plug the dryer into the converter and the converter into an adapter plug. Here is my converter: amzn.to/4cC8ZRq and these are my adapters: amzn.to/47ZlYtU
Those jeans look really good on you as well
Hi Laurie, the link for the little jewelry case goes to the heat pad for curling irons, etc. can you provide the jewelry case link again, thanks! Very helpful video!
Yes to mens packing. Thanks in advance.
I just received my phone stand in pink. Yay!
It is so cute, right??
Yes please for man. Especially my husband plan on traveling.
From Amazon - neoprene pouches (ajltpa) and jewelry pouches (vlando) that I pack in the cube with the outfit or in a shoe
yes for men’s video
I love your videos.
Yay thank you!
The backpack jacket could come in handy. I am always taking my jacket off. I have not seen that before
I love your videos. I have learned so much about traveling. I have the stripped backpack and love it. Could you do a video about allowing more time to arrive at the airport if you are needing a wheelchair or have a disability. I know one couple who actually missed a flight because they did not allow enough time.
Oh yes, arrive 3 hours before boarding time in my opinion. The companies who man the wheelchairs use contract employees, and there is a super high turnover and no show rate.
I'm traveling overseas for the first time in October and will be transferring from a regional flight to a direct flight to Scotland from Chicago...I'm really worried that there won't be enough time to catch the direct flight. How much time should there be between the two? I haven't been on a plane since 1999 so I need all the help that I can get.
I have learned so.much. I am so interested in what NOT to put in your luggage in the belly of the plane. I have no idea. But I remember they blamed the mid air explosion of flight TWA 800 on oxygen bottles in the belly of the pane. They changed is later, but I figure there are things that .need to be in your carry-on. So I kinda wish you would do one on what not to pack in your luggage.
Thank you for battery advice! ❤ I will be traveling soon, and I was wondering if one can have a spiral notebook in your personal bag?
Any packing video is helpful 😁
I'm so glad!
Hi Laurie! I love your tips!! I started commuting to work by bicycle this year (just once a week so far), and a lot of your tips have been helpful for that. Do you have any other suggestions for makeup? I love the idea of the magnetic case, but most of my non-liquid makeup is loose powder. I bought some tiny containers for it so I don’t have to carry the full-size versions. Although this meets my needs, my makeup tends to make a mess when I get to work. Just wondering if there are some other solutions to traveling with makeup.
Yes, please for a video for men's items
Could you cover using a CPAP machine while traveling overseas? Using it on the plane, etc., and that needs a converter.
Yes, that would be really useful. ❤
love your tips...going on our first cruise to Alaska in Sept with several friends. I'm starting to buy my essentials now. We are retired and travel with a 5th wheel so we always have enough room, this will be a challenge for me. Do you have a video on Alaska?
Hi I do not, but at least one pair of waterproof/water-resistant shoes would be great!
I got that mini toiletries bag for my husband and he loves it! He has a gorgeous leather dopkit I got for him when we got married, but it is just too big for what he packs.
Great minds think alike!
Yes to a men’s packing video! :)
Coming soon!
Love your videos! You mentioned both an adapter and a plug with extra outlets. Does the plug also convert the power or do you need both?
Hi Cheryl. So the adapter is what your electronic item plugs into. That adapter for that country is what fits their outlet hole sizes. So I was suggesting that you need more like the ones I showed. We have sooooo many things that need an outlet. My hotel room had one besides the bathroom. If taking a curling iron or hair dryer, you have to have a converter. Mine is a combo converter/adapter. So I would use that in the bathroom and my extra adapters would plug into the room outlets and that's where I would charge batteries and computers etc.
Yes. Mens video. Also, would you please go more in depth about a converter use in other countries? I’m not taking any hair tools, but my husband is INSISTING that the apple products and kindle need their big charging block because it’s their converter (rather than a travel adapter that has several usb ports already on it.)
Hi, electronics need an adapter so their plugs will fit into outlets. Here is a 3 min video that might help: bit.ly/AdapterTravelConverter When I was in Belgium, I just plugged my laptop and other electronics into adapters, but I wish I would have packed those I showed b/c hotel rooms do not have alot of outlets.
Hi Laurie. I’ve enjoyed your videos on travel tips & hacks and love them 😊.
I have been looking for a hook that I can use in a bathroom stall when there are no hooks on the stall door. I wonder if you have any ideas? I never know what to do with my purse or backpack…I don’t want to put them on the dirty floor.
Hey there, I know they are out there but I do not use one.
I’m in favor of a men’s packing video. Your videos are good and very useful, though one from a man’s perspective would be more relatable for us guys in your audience.
What would be interesting to me is anything specific to pilots, like a recommended flashlight or other useful equipment.
Something coming to mind after seeing your jacket with carry straps is to attach D-rings to my coat to carry using a luggage strap.
I appreciate that! These suggestions help a ton! Now I just need to beg him to do that...
Is cream based make up liquid or solid? (Like the magnetic ones you have)
Thank you for sharing all of your experiences with Travel. I wanted to share that I recently found a water bottle that uses UV light to treat creek, lake or community water while traveling to destinations it treats 99% of bio contaminants.. It’s called Larq water bottle PureVis. it comes in 17 and 25 oz as well as insulated and non insulated. You do have to charge the cap about month. I have already gotten my purchase back. Carla
As a bigger woman, with size 10 feet too, carry on only travel is just not an option for me. But your tips for TSA and your packing tips for my carryon bag are great.
So glad the tips helped.
