Vintage White Wall Trailer Tires CHEAP!!!

  • The struggle with white wall tires is real. New vintage white wall tires can run $300-380 a piece plus shipping and their performance as trailer tires can be a cause of concern for many. But the look is the perfect touch for a vintage build or project. I have decided to try White Anvil Tire paint to see if it's worth considering. And surprise spoiler it is! I never thought I'd be painting tires!

    Looks good. I’ve always used roofing paint. It has great elasticity. The prep is most important. The oils usually bleed through.

    You can do this with a 2 inch roller with edge guard, hug the rim with the guard, dont load up the roller ,use light coats to minimalize bleed, I used killz primer as my paint it drys fast and dont run easy, my tires were weathered and the paint leached in nice it dont scrub off with a normal washing, your tires look really good, Nice tape bending

    great video, i used to use white shoe polish back in the 80s and it worked great, people would ask me where i bought my whitewalls. i found no need for tape using a slow steady hand, and when the whitewalls got dirty just re-do or touch up.

    I just did four brand new tires with some no name white wall tire paint I bought on ebay for $29. They cured inside and looked great for two months with the white paint, but after just ONE day on the vehicle, they turned brown like yours. So, probably not the sun, but I am guessing bleed through rubber oils, maybe activated by the movement of the sidewalls, which is why it did not bleed when allowed to cure inside for two months. My paint directons said to hand sand and clean with laquer thinner, which I did. So, the adhesion does seem great and I'm goiong to do a new topcoat of another paint sold online called Ranger Tire Paint and if the turns brown, I will try the oil-based sign paint recommended in one of your comment, as I have a sign shop and plenty of the paint. But, I think sign enamel dries too brittle for tires and in time, it will crack. There is a latex house paint made to stick to vinyl siding and they say it works even over black vinyl, so maybe that will be tried at some point, too. Lots of fun trying, anyway. Thank for your honest video and efforts.

    hello .. I am a strict followers who live in turkey. your projects are great.. I congratulate your team. I have an amateur bobber project. I tried various methods of applying white stripe on the sidewalls. but I could not get a long-term performance. There are alternatives in my research such as asphalt line paint, leather seat paint and plastic bottom. I do not want to experience situations such as deformation and separation of paint from the surface after application. For this reason, I would like your advice on the right paint material and the correct application method. Has it deformed over time? Has the paint peeled off? Can you suggest me?

    • @AZExpert

    Absolutely not latex paint because that I KNOW dont work e.g. if you paint on mold surface...after a while the mold comes in daylight......with oilbased or type paints for cars...not.
    Oilbased because its "stretchy" after drying.

      I think painting tires is a strange idea in general. I chose the paint as it was formulated for tires and thought I'd see how it worked. I thought it may have worked as most white lettering on tires is painted on. But unfortunately, the oils in the tire discolored the paint, and it bubbled in a few spots. But where it stuck, it really stuck. Thanks for watching!

      @@jamielanning2324 This is the great tire debate that seems to be never ending in the RV world. I don't make or sell tires. I understand the sidewall construction differences between the two styles which is among the reasons trailer tires should never be on a car. However, I do stand behind the idea that, trailer tires are built cheap and tread separation is ridiculously common. So money being no object, I would expect passenger or light truck tires of the same rating to perform as well as trailer tires on a trailer. They will definitely wear out faster but would be theoretically "safe" on a trailer. Thanks!

    Has anyone actually tried using latex house paint???

    • @AZExpert
      @AZExpert  5 років тому +1

      Yes, like this paint it will work for a month or so then starts discoloring due to the rubber.

      @@AZExpert you have to make sure to REALLY sand the sidewall of the tire, especially new tires as there is a substance in the sidewall to get the tire to release from the mold easily. get rid of that brownish substance and it shouldn't bleed through. also heat as you paint as to open the pores of the rubber more.

      @@billwilliamson9842 I appreciate the feedback. I did sand fairly aggresively and did clean agressively too. The paint really did stick well in most areas that even when powerwashing I sliced the sidewalls up trying to remove the paint. It's been my experience that tires left on plastic/vinyl/rubber surfaces tend to react chemically with them and turn them brown permanently. Thanks!

      I wasn't sure how well this paint would have sprayed, it has body like typewritter whiteout. Thanks!

    Let me guess, it didn't last and started flaking off...

      It lasted very long....it just browned. Oh well....I tried it so no one else has too. Lol

      @@AZExpert I wonder if applying a sealer to it before applying the paint wouldn't helped. I actually already bought the same paint and had heard of people complaining that it chipped away or flaked off. I figured I could experiment by applying an adhesion promoter before applying the actual paint. After seeing this video I'm thinking a good sanding, washing, alcohol soak, adhesion promoter, then sealer before applying the actual paint. I'll be doing it on my motorcycle tires. I guess we'll see if it works. How long until they browned out?

      @@Majatecks a couple of months. I think its merely the rubber chemicals that bleed through. I found the paint to be quie stretchy and stubborn to remove even with a pressure washer....I kind of damaged the tires with the washer. Maybe a primer or sealer first coat?

    • @Majatecks
      @Majatecks 4 роки тому

      @@AZExpert yes exactly. I'm hoping it will block anything from bleeding through while promoting adhesion while avoiding flaking and disbonding.
