FINALLY! Some one who plays chords and the exact same thing through each setting and each pedal so you can actually hear the pedals and the differences. AWESOME, teach all the other pedal demo dudes your technique please. IMHO best f**king pedal demo on UA-cam.
Grizzly Bear You are too kind but much appreciated. Yeah, just trying to help show others the sound or different sounds of pedals, so others might purchase something they like. Cheers.
Well technically he's just playing that riff one time, and then looping it in his Daw; that's the best way for consistency for sure. I find the Dark Matter to be a little more versatile than what he's dialed in here, but I'm also switching up pickups, which makes a big difference on it's own. I really appreciate the presentation. I'll sub for consistency any day.
Great stuff there, thanks for just a continuous loop with each one dialled in. Really gives a clear sense of what’s different! Already have the mojo and I was going for the dark matter. Now I possibly need to go for the Rottweiler as well 😂
Thank you. This way of demonstrating/comparing effects is just what I was looking for. Straight-forward and clear comparisons without any gaps of filler in between. I've just subscribed.
The dark matter seems like a higher gain version of t he Mojo, and the Rottweiler seems like the gain knob doesn’t change anything. This reaffirms me that the Dark matter is probably for me because I want something inveteeen an OD and Distortion
I hit play and looked away from the screen and i only heard two different sounds. I had to look back to realize there wasn't a measurable difference (through my cheap logitech speakers) to my challenged ears. Thanks man......cool comparison.
I'm actually surprised how similar the mojo and the dark matter are, even in gain they almost sound identical, the Rottweiler is just way too compressed in any setting other than minimum gain, which actually sounds really nice! Very interesting demo
My thoughts exactly. I have the mojomojo and the dark matter is in my wishlist, but know I am skeptical if it's worth it. I am just curious if the EQ knobs are voiced differently in them. They were not moved at all in this test.
WOW! Great video. As a relative newbie and someone who has the MojoMojo and was thinking about the Dark Matter, it seems that they have a similar enough sound that, for my needs, my money will be better spent elsewhere. Perhaps on that Rottweiler or another higher gain pedal. Thanks so much for this great demo.
I have the Dark matter and while I love it I have always wondered if the Mojomojo would have been a better choice for me. Thank you for the video, The two ARE very similar but I hear something in the DM I prefer.
This is one of the best pedal demos I’ve ever seen. I have the Mojomojo and am looking for something with more distortion to add to my board (to pair with the mojo). I have a Big Muff nano and not so much a fuzz fan after using it. Think the Rottweiler would suit me better.
I thought I would like Muffs until I got one… I almost turned my back on Fuzz. Then I got a Fuzz Face style fuzz, and fell in love. Point is, try different fuzzes until you find the right one for you! Mine apparently is the JHS 3.
The Rottweiler is a bit of a one trick pony, although that trick is sweet. He doesn't really show it much here, but I think the Dark Matter is the most diverse of the three, if that's what you're into.
GREAT VIDEO! You actually used a CLEAN tone for your base, and you showed the SAME THING through all 3 with different settings... Bravo... AND you managed to knock out THREE similar-ish pedals in ONE video... ALL pedal demos should be like this!
Holy crap. I had no idea that the Rottweiler even existed. I glance at the video thumbnail and thought it was a Spark boost! LMAO. I would love to see the Rottweiler vs. TC's low-cost metal pedals (Fangs, Eyemaster). Good demo!
Weird, here the Dark sounds brighter than the Mojo. When I use mine, I dial in the best tone for each by itself and the opposite is true. Great video in general, but IMO what makes TC so good is the BASS. W that cranked or close to cranked, you get great note definition, a full thick sound and smoother distortion because so much fundamental is in the output.
I agree 100%... That's EXACTLY why the MojoMojo replaced my Digitech Bad Monkey, the amazing bass response was JUST as good as the BM, but it has MORE gain when needed, and better highs, too... I learned way back when I used a guitar amp AND a BASS amp as my rig in a 3 piece band, everyone used to say that we sounded so FULL for a 3 piece, lol... Bass amp... Lol...
Hi Chris great video , thanks. Can I ask if using your setup I want to record without mic like connect amp to audio interface is it possible? Do I need some monitor cables sorry I have no idea any suggestions will be appreciated. Do I need to connect some external speakers to audio interface? To hear ?
If you want to record your amp but not use a microphone it would depend a little on the amp. In my opinion, an amp head and cabinet is the easiest on to record that way, but to do so would require another component, like Two Notes Cab M+. In regards to you questions about external speakers, I would say yes or you would need to use headphones. The are a lot of possible answers to recording without a microphone. So if you have anymore specific questions I’ll be glad to try and answer the questions as best as I can.
@@Tone-Quest hi Chris good day to you. Thank you lot for your reply and appreciate your support. I have combo amp so usually setup I use is guitar -plugs to multi effects pedal to amp input . @@harsimaransingh3059 So why not use some headphone to hear what you are recording with the Focusrite? My I ask some specifics, like what multi-effects are you using? And what amp are you using. The method I tend to use doesn’t normally work for combo amps.
@@harsimaransingh3059 That looks like a nice amp. I see it has an emulated line out, is that what you are using to go to the Focusrite audio interface with? That seem like it would be the easiest way to record from that amp. But if coming out the emulated line out and it cuts the sound off then I probably would want external monitor speakers so I could hear the guitar and what I was recording or I would use headphones on the Focusrite. I see the DSL20CR also has 3 speaker outputs 1x8 OHM, 2x16 OHM and 1x16 OHM. It is possible to leverage one of those, probably the 1x8 OHM output to run into something like the Two Notes CAB M+ but you would also need to run the output of the CAB M+ into a load of some sort or into an 8 OHM speaker cabinet. That would allow you two hear what you are recording and allow you to lever different IR's (Impulse Responses) to shape your sound. Just a word of precaution, never run a speaker out of an amp straight into an USB Audio interface, like the Focusrite. It may damage the Focusrite and possibly the amp too.
It’s long been suspicion that these three pedals are the same circuit with a few component values changed to provide varying levels of gain. If you compare the Dark Matter with the gain set about 25% to 33% lower than the MojoMojo, they sound virtually identical.
Yes, in fact I've heard that exact reference made on another channel. It's kinda perfect for that; I think it's modeled for that 80's sound. Also, it's a little more versatile that what he has dialed in here. He isn't switching up pickups either, but I find I can get almost fuzzy overdrive with this, all the way over to what might be considered Metal... not hard rock like GNR, but metal. It also does the Sludge sound really well; think Sabbath or even Clutch. I don't think you can beat it for the price. I got mine on sale for $40 lol.

What the video shows in each sound example is a true reflection of how the pedal was set when I recorded. There is always some tolerance to potentiometers, so maybe that might explain a little difference between the same type pedals.
I have a Mojo and a Dark Matter. The sound you get depends on your amp, settings, and speakers as much or more than the pedals. And try as I might I was never able to get s bad sound from either one. Trick question: which one sounds best? Answer: the 1968 EHX Big Muff Pi run through a Sunn 100s with the N1200 attenuated cab with a 400 watt EVM plus the stock horn, and a 1971 Gibson SG Custom. Get the idea? Not yet? Crank the volume to 6 and you will.
