SLEW!! Another top review, honest, detailed and an excellent demo of all possible tones of different modes available and use of filter & gain controls, can’t fault the price for what you get, it goes onto the list of possible pedal purchases when I one day may have a bit of extra cash to splash out and buy more pedals to go into my ever growing pedal collection.
Slew! Interesting direction tc electronic is taking with their new line of pedals. How about a comparison between the Grand Magus Distortion and the Magus Pro?
Great video. My eyes are drawn to the Fender Sixty-Six. I love the looks that guitar! The subtle body lines of the jazz bass, BADASS! This pedal is quite appealing too, very useable tones. Thanks
You might say that that slew the competition. It was good to see you getting in it's innards, who doesn't want to see that? That really is a reasonable price for a pedal from a recognisable manufacturer, good on them for doing that. 😎🎙🎸✅
Great video. My current search is for a pedal that can get the tones of ZZ Top and Nickelback as I’m adding a couple of those songs to our playlist. This seems to do the trick. Slew!
There’s a (ahem !) slew of excellent tones in this one Andy. I want one and I will buy one next month all going well. It’s right up my alley. Great video Andy and thanks 😀👍👍
DUDE that Ibanez is SICK! Nice review! I'm still looking for a decent, affordable Rectifier pedal for my V50 as I love the clean tube sound and the effects are fried. I like this one but it's not quite it.
The Void reverb may have a matching form factor. I love these small pedal designs and the top mounted jacks. ...Also a comparison between this and the Grand Magus would also be welcome IMO.
Slew!! Nothing comes on the market these days without having something extra to offer, I think the 3 "modes" is the feature that makes this. More colour to the palette. Thanks GG
The pedal slew! I have a very similar 3 in 1 rat clone and I think it holds up fantastically. With the form factor, build, and likely higher quality control it gives me some pretty serious GAS! Hopefully this form factor becomes more standard as it's just got so many benefits!
One thing about rats that's always struck me, and why I had a Turbo Rat a good few years ago, was how much they captured the sort of unique vibe some older Solid State amps had - the HH amp for example. I was kind of chasing Bauhaus tones at the time. People often called the Rat more "amp like" than other pedals, which is definitely true, comparing to a 250 or DS1 it reacts a lot more like an actual amp - but a Solid State one.
Great pedal and very nicve playing btw. mr. F.. I will absolutely buy one when it will be available @thomann. Question: Have you tried the behringer super fuzz? Maybe i am too stoopid to find a video with you playing one but for a fuzz afficionado like you are that should be in your house imo. No pedal farts (i mean fuzzes) harder than this one.
This video sold it for me. Bought it pre-order so I hope I don't have to wait to long. I love the turbo sounds, especially #3. I think I'm going to have a SLEW! of uses for this once I get it. I might even even stack it with my 18 yr old proco rat 2 that has recently rejoined my pedal board.
SLEW! This seems like a pretty interesting and smaller substitute for a FATRAT and TurboRAT. It's even a little cheaper than the standard RAT, although the turbo mode seems to be where this pedal really shines. It's not necessarily identical in sound, but it gets it in the ballpark. The only thing missing is a Deucetone RAT sort of tone (stacked RATs), but I guess you could get two of theses, or an original RAT and this one.
Slew rhymes with, hahaha... a lot of words I won’t repeat here today. Cool little pedal. Is it part of a new series of pedals? Or do you know if that’s what they are up to? Seems like it would be a series focused toward pedal board down sizing. Lord knows mine needs some down sizing... No, that’s not what she said, either. lol... thanks man... 🎸🤓🎸🇺🇸☮️
SLEW! Do you recommend this one or the Joyo Splinter, which you tested in the same year? Saw the review of the Joyo yesterday and was on the verge of ordering is, until I saw this one. Price difference is around 35 euros, so another way to say you get two Splinters for one Magus :).
For just 60 bucks holy shit. That's an easy recommend to any new guitarist, no matter what kind of music they want to play. They can always find something useable. (And I might just snatch it myself during summer, I still have a thomann gift card....) Slew.
Slew: /slōō/ Verb 1. Turn to slide violently or uncontrollably in a particular direction. 2. (Of an electronic device) undergo slewing. Noun A violent or uncontrollable sliding movement.
I wouldn't say it's darker at higher gain settings, it just seem to lose some of the rusty jagged stuff on top. Suits me fine. Odd the setting they call Turbo is louder and cleaner. So far I like the Fat the best. on your "70's" tone, put a les Paul on and give it more gain; THEN you'll have the '70's. I like the size; no falling over like a mini. Slew.
I really wanted to love and buy this pedal but I just don’t. It’s definitely rat-like but I definitely prefer the original rat. Superb demo nonetheless!
I got the GRAND MAGUS ... and to my ears ... with my stuff ... delivers PLEXI tones .... and beyond ... if is cranked ... gets you to MESA BOOGIE Rectifier zone ... great pedal ... discontinued I must said ...
Thanks for taking it apart and showing that the pedal doesn't have an LM308 in it, despite pictures of one on their website and very opaque marketing copy. I wish you'd have shown how the pedal sounds with the Filter knob after 12 o'clock and with some more gain, you know, gotten into stoner/doom territory, even if it isn't your strong suit... I mean, just play power chords slowly and loudly. :D Throw some purple smoke on the screen in After Effects, or something. :D
The product webpage says "We’ve specially designed a circuit to recreate the classic slow slew of the infamous LM308 op-amp using readily available modern components.", which reads pretty clearly to me.
Just got this pedal... wow! I compared it side by side to the Ratsbane and I swear, what a deal! The only upside to the Wampler ratsbane is that Brian put more gain on tap and a switch to morph the circuit. More gain does equal more noise, though. Other than that, this TC pedal hangs right in there. In fact, I think I'm preferring this pedal over the ratsbane... shh, don't tell the gear snobs!🤫
i was wondering why everyone was saying slew. i cant wait for this pedal to drop, by the time it does ill prolly discover something else cheaper thats ready to ship...
There is one flaw with this pedal which isn't pointed out in this review, perhaps because it's sponsored and that is the footswitch. It's soft touch and non-latching and only engages the pedal once it is released. Keep your foot on it momentarily or longer and it won't engage for example. What that means is there is a slight delay, so an issue if you are trying to come in on a beat from clean playing. You get a rough idea at 03:21 . This is not an issue if you have the pedal always on of course, but otherwise it means you need to have a different method for switching on an off compared to your other pedals. It can sometimes be finicky switching off too imo, again as its non-latching. Boss manages to have the pedal engage once the pedal is depressed (not on release) why can't TCE? Just thought it's worth highlighting this.
Certainly didn't leave it out on purpose and the video is not paid for, I just got to keep the pedal. I guess I am used to the switching but you are right, I should have mentioned it.
@@TheGuitarGeek Hey, thanks for replying. No harm meant, I was just referring to the paid promotion icon on the video. Those switches are a drag though.

Could be an LM308. There’s an SMD version of the chip available. It’s mega cheap, so no reason for them to put anything else in, tbh.
