I prefer the higher saves and the extra spell slot from wisdom at 18, but yes you can just take wisdom to 14 and do 14 str if you want and throw some points into con. We only get extra damage from strength on composite bows, so with the 14/14 split you're gaining 2 damage and some carry weight. Really just whichever floats your boat, it'll play about the same either way.

I told myself I can't buy WotR until I finish Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2, you're making it really hard for me to keep it that way with these vids, man.
Honestly everyone is different. My first playthrough was about 200 hours and I never had any bug issues even in the later acts. Just play what u wanna play when u wanna play it lol. U can play multiple games at once that is allowed

finally a nice straight forward build that does not require changing classes 3 times, i have always had a perchant for 'pure' classes, i will definitely give this a try
straight classing is so boring...half the fun of there being so many classes is you can have so many cool class features on one character. like a level in one of the rogues for sneak attack die, which is super power...1 level in vivi for a physical mutagen or 2 levels for a mental attribute mutagen.. A 2 level fighter dip has been super popular ever since the beginning of DnD... Multiclassing into a class that gets spells has also been super popular for frontline combat characters for a while also, so much so they started making classes specifically for doing that. I mean...don't get me wrong...I honestly think the best ranged character in the game is a full 20 fighter. But I like getting a level of vivi and rowdy rogue for the early sneak attack die and +4dex which makes up for the 2bab lost which you more than makeup with all the fighter feats to the point where your fighter archer basically does more damage than any of your other characters at almost every level of the game until the very end with level 8/9 spells and they've shored up their durability.
Tbh, this class/archetype has a real synergy with the main story. I'm playing an Aasimar, and I'm really feeling the whole "Fantasy Joan of Arc: Divine Purifier & Instrument of Justice" vibe.
The Demon Slayer is a hilariously no-downsides archetype for a game that's like a good 75% SLAYING DEMONS. If you were playing a Ranger you'd likely want to pick demons quickly in any case, and no other Favored Enemy would hit nearly as many use cases.
The Cheetah is actually really really good. They get Trip AND pounce and with feats they get their Dex in addition to Str and instead of Str so they get their very high Dex mod twice. Also it upgrades before 7 and is Small/Medium so it fits inside a lot better.
I finally got the game and was building out a character and got overwhelmed at the ability points. Was looking up guides for AP and Traits and lo and behold, you have a guide that had literally all of the things I had selected up to the the AP screen 😂 Thank you so much 🙌
I love the build variety in WOTR, and keep wanting to replay it to try different builds (I've completed it once so far). My problem is I can't bring myself to play through the same linear story again (even though it is possible to make a lot of different decisions, it still feels 80% the same). I keep restarting now but not getting very far with my repeat runs. I would love a game that combined WOTR's character build possibilities, it's combat and companions, but with a more open sandboxy feel.
So i posted my melee ranger build in a conversation under the last build video. So I thought i'd copy and paste it here, for anyone that's interested. "Ranger is also very good (especially demonslayer). You get a lot of skills (one less than the rougues, but they are the only ones who get 5 per level), an animal companion at level 4 (which you can ride. I recommend the smilodon for max dps). Going with two weapon fighting as your combat style, also lets you dual wield without investing in dex. For a melee dual wielder go something like Str 18 Dex 12 Con 14 Int 10 Wis 16 Cha 8. Pick any race you want, as long as you get a bonus to your strength. Human is probably the best (extra feat, plus 1 skill point per level). Important feats are: Power attack, Boon companion (as soon as you get your companion), Outflank (also get this on your companion. You'll need to raise its Int to 3 to do so, but it will be permanently active when you are mounted for both of you), Shield bash and shield master (they let you use a spiked shield effectively as a offhand weapon, which boosts your ac. You can skip them, but i like the image of mounted characters fighting with sword and shield). If you invest into mobility also consider Mounted Combat and Indomitable Mount to boost your pets survivability. For your combat style take two weapon combat and pick two weapon fighting, improved two weapon fighting and greater two weapon fighting as soon as you can. For your mythic feats and abilities choose two weapon fighting (mythic) and power attack (mythic) as well as mythic beast and leading strike. Play any mythic path you want. Compared to a rouge you should have more mobility/movement speed and survivability through your animal companion (enemies should prioritize your pet over you as long as you are mounted). I don't know which one does more damage, but i never felt like my ranger lacked dps. Rogue however gets one more skill points per level (don't know how important that is to you). The only thing i'd add is that you only get your companion at level 4 and that you can only ride it at level 7, but you should reach level 4 in act 1 and level 7 before you even choose your mythic path(you level up quite quickly early on). So you can ride your companion for most of the game. Also don't dual wield before picking up the associated feats. It will ruin your accuracy. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. Have fun!"
Do you know how feats work with weapons like the urgosh and double axe? Should you just stick with base dual wield or do you add more since you’re technically wielding a 2h weapon?
@@theblackin009 They act as if you where wielding two weapons, so Two-Weapon Fighting lowers your attack penalty, Improved Two-Weapon Fighting gives you an extra scondary attack and Greater Two-Weapon Fighting add a third one.
Just picked up the game and this looks like the perfect build for me. I went for Human and took Wis to 16 and Int to 12 just for some skills though. I got weapon focus Longbow for the extra feat.
The hunter was always my favourite class in WoW (yeah yeah I know, mine and everyone else's) and this looks like a nice version of it specific WoTR, with some lovely turning demons into pincushions.

I'm a new player and was hunting around for an archer build and got into my head that I would be a demon hunter. I now find out that Demonslayer is an actual class XD. Doing a small handful of changes. The cruel nature of faultspawn didn't sit well with me, especially cause I was aiming more for a good character so I went plumekith which actually gave me a couple extra points that I threw into strength. I haven't fully decided on mythic path cause I'll be picking primarily for rp reasons, rather than abilities. I figure Azata, angel, and gold dragon are all tempting options for the type of character I want to be.
I like how I can literally copy every single choice you've made on every page, and yet I get a red thumbs down for "Point Blank Shot" instead of your green thumbs up. No wonder it's so easy to make a bad build in this game especially when the interface will just randomly lie to you.
Cool build as always. I would suggest not having your main stat start at an even number unless you're going legend path. Having your main stat end on an odd number just means you coulda spent more points at character creation on con or something. Again love your videos, just a build suggestion to squeeze more power in by level 20

Blind Fight is excellent against concealment (rerolling miss chance) of enemies, like blur, displacement, invisibility, etc.!!! Even if your archer goes blind, he/she can still kick ass! Nb: yes, it works with ranged weapons in WotR, even if the description says "melee".
@@zyfryth Well, it is that way still in Kingmaker years later, so it does not look like Owlcat feels it is important to change. It makes it much more useful. My ranged characters often take it.

Now it is a tough decision if you want to run a great archer whether to build this Ranger, a Zen Archer/Faith Hunter, an Eldritch Archer/Eldritch Hunter, or a Rowdy Rogue. Could you compare them?
@@MortismalGaming Yeah, standard caster is probably the most effective. I guess something more varied would require some dips into other classes, plus not all sorcerer archetypes are that good.
i'm addicted to making characters so that said i made a gnome raptor rider demon hunter it's rather fun but you do loose a bit of damage due to the character size penalty
I would probably even out Int to 10 and 12 str, dropping the wisdom to 14. Minimum needed for all the ranger spells and they don’t get as much as the Paladin does out of turbo charging their casting att.
@@MortismalGaming I would agree with you if Instant Enemy required a save. As soon as I found out it doesn't I dropped my Wis to 16 (still want good perception) and put my Str up to 14. Very nice quality of life change imo.
I'm very new to the game and still learning.. this has all been really helpful but what's recommended for this build when allocating skill points going forward (from level 2 onwards) ? Do I just stack on top of stealth, lore and perception?
Was wondering the same: Erastil seemed the most logical choice but dunno if it actually has any relevance to anything. Favored Weapon: Longbow, Domains: Animal, Community, Good, Law, Plant.
I would ha e put some points in mobility there is a bow that adds half your mobility to damage. I wonder how you would make a demon slayer vital strike user. With the high bonuses he could easily hit and with quarry he could crit any threat roll... could be nice. I wonder if you get secondary natural attacks when you use vital strike then you could make a motherless and get a bite on top... just wondering.
One thing i don't get is.. like when i make this character he shows me that blank shot is a thumbs down.. why is that ? I mean its literally the same build

This might be a dumb question but can you use this build with crossbows as well? I prefer the flavor of being a "Van Helsing" style hunter as opposed to using a longbow and was wondering if all the feats are strictly for longbow/shortbows, or if crossbows also get the same perks.

Thx for this build guide. I was looking for something like this because I dislike all those take one level of this class for that feature and then 3 level of that class for X and so on. Giving you a mathematical good character that makes no sense background wise. I know I won't reach some of those extrem numbers with "pure" builds but I really don't care to clear this game on unfair so why min max to the extreme? If I may ask, what would you take as a second class if you would go legend with this build instead of Azata? Zen Archer maybe? Or fighter?
Potentially dumb question, but is it correct to assume that a build you designated as good for "Core" or "Hard" will also work well on easier difficulties?
During the beta I was able to thinker a bit an I found out that the mythic weapon finesse applied to ranged weapons and it applied your dex to dmg with bows etc, would you be able to confirm if that is still the case? Cheers.
How are you hitting level 10 by the assault on Drezen? I keep hearing people saying do lepers smile at level 8 as well and I barely hit level 7 trying to get there.
As much as I am enjoying this game I have 95 hours on it, and I am early in chapter 4. I don't see how i will ever try different builds. I made this character, a demon slayer azata and it's not as effective as it should be, but I don't know the system and and don't have the patience to look it up. My only complaints about the game. IF I ever do a second playthrough I'll likely be perusing your builds, since I don't want to spend hours reading through everything.
It's a big system and there's a lot to know, but it's worth mentioning demon slayer was bugged until recently and the buff against demons wasn't increasing, so that might have been part of your problem
Why 18 wis over just keeping it at 14-16…? I’m obviously not anywhere near as knowledgeable as you are, I actually just recently picked up a laptop mostly to play Wrath because of your videos and playing Kingmaker on both my PS4 and PS5 was just too buggy and crashed all the time but I loved the pathfinder system for builds etc. I’ll digress but for example with a Aasimar Plumekith your stat spread could be 14 20 14 10 14 7… as Teifling Faultspawn 14 20 14 8 14 7… also I like invisibility with the Aasimar over Hideous laughter because that way I can scout ahead as a ranger(how I roll play the character) I’m playing core pretty much but I changed it so I can retrain and negative effects are removed after a rest(I hate using consumables unless during a fight…🤷🏻♂️). Sorry for the ramble but is the higher wisdom needed for saving throws later in the game…? I’m early enough in my play through that I could easily start over but I don’t want to be kicking myself or forced to lowering the difficulty to get passed certain parts just because I screwed up at character creation… My second play through I was wanting to build an Arcane Trickster but I was going to dump wis in favor of having a lil charisma for persuasion and use magic device checks… I enjoy your builds and guides because it seems to be rooted in common sense and roll playing more so over just min maxing to the extreme or multiple level dips in 4-5 classes like you can see some people do… plus I’m not looking at playing anything higher then core with the few tweaks I mentioned… I would appreciate any other feedback from any other experienced players too… I know I may be over thinking it but I built a similar build in Kingmaker but with only using 12 wisdom and higher strength because I know from my D&D experience that ranger’s spells aren’t all that good… I was smashing everything pretty much all the way through but need to retrain some party members because I pretty much made Octavia an archer with her feats and gave Valerie a bunch of power attack and cleaving abilities over defensive ones 🤦🏻♂️ but to me that’s part of the fun and strategic thinking that makes these games good. Sorry for novel I wrote but I appreciate the content and your able to continue to grow as fast as you are! I’ve been here watching, liking and very rarely if at all commenting on your videos since you had under 10k and your guides helped me through DOS2!

Very nice build. An idea for a mythic path is the Trickster. They can critical hit 100% of the time plus stack critical feats for insane damage.

I made myself a set of Illidan Stormrage portraits, and choose the demon slayer. Weapon of choice is dual-wielding that shuriken thingy.

Plumekith Aasamar is also a viable race for this build. Although you get ugly metallic hair and no horns or tail.

Blind fight working from range is an oversight and will probably be fixed. Much like kineticist used to fire two blasts with zippy magic. :)

why wis 18? 14 makes us able to cast all ranger spells, wasnt better to allocate rest in str for composite bows?

@@MortismalGaming I would agree with you if Instant Enemy required a save. As soon as I found out it doesn't I dropped my Wis to 16 (still want good perception) and put my Str up to 14. Very nice quality of life change imo.
Honestly leopard is the best animal companion unless it been nerfef from Kingmaker
I'm very new to the game and still learning.. this has all been really helpful but what's recommended for this build when allocating skill points going forward (from level 2 onwards) ? Do I just stack on top of stealth, lore and perception?

Was wondering the same: Erastil seemed the most logical choice but dunno if it actually has any relevance to anything. Favored Weapon: Longbow, Domains: Animal, Community, Good, Law, Plant.
Instead of strength, we can now put points in intelligence because we got new feat that allows int to damage.

I would ha e put some points in mobility there is a bow that adds half your mobility to damage.
I wonder how you would make a demon slayer vital strike user. With the high bonuses he could easily hit and with quarry he could crit any threat roll... could be nice. I wonder if you get secondary natural attacks when you use vital strike then you could make a motherless and get a bite on top... just wondering.

Why you dont use Deadly Aim? I tried it with Arushelai and it gave a lot of dmg for a small penalty that easily compensated with Fav Enemy and Quarry.

This might be a dumb question but can you use this build with crossbows as well? I prefer the flavor of being a "Van Helsing" style hunter as opposed to using a longbow and was wondering if all the feats are strictly for longbow/shortbows, or if crossbows also get the same perks.
Yeah, just make sure you pick crossbow for the feats that specify a ranged weapon

Im attempting to replicate thisa build and the "point blank shot" feat is coming up as a non recommneded, but your vid shows the opposite. what did i miss?
A patch changed some of the recommendations around but you still want point blank
Thx for this build guide. I was looking for something like this because I dislike all those take one level of this class for that feature and then 3 level of that class for X and so on. Giving you a mathematical good character that makes no sense background wise. I know I won't reach some of those extrem numbers with "pure" builds but I really don't care to clear this game on unfair so why min max to the extreme?
If I may ask, what would you take as a second class if you would go legend with this build instead of Azata? Zen Archer maybe? Or fighter?

Demonslayer can be really stong. I've build Wenduag this way once or twice but I do think it would be fun to do as my Main Char
I usually throw it on Wendu as well, that's how this build started lol

Yeah, legend can work with just about anything

During the beta I was able to thinker a bit an I found out that the mythic weapon finesse applied to ranged weapons and it applied your dex to dmg with bows etc, would you be able to confirm if that is still the case? Cheers.
10 STR and 18 WIS? Curious why so high WIS when only getting level 4 spells thus need only 14, while STR adds to your composite bow damage? :)

How are you hitting level 10 by the assault on Drezen? I keep hearing people saying do lepers smile at level 8 as well and I barely hit level 7 trying to get there.
You can turn the group share xp off, but even with it on you should be level 10 just right after the start of act 3 if you're doing everything
Does this build get sneak attack?
Can this be adapted to a 2 weapon fighting style like say Drizzit Do'urden?
Just swap out the ranged stuff for the two weapon fighting feats and youre good to go

As much as I am enjoying this game I have 95 hours on it, and I am early in chapter 4. I don't see how i will ever try different builds. I made this character, a demon slayer azata and it's not as effective as it should be, but I don't know the system and and don't have the patience to look it up. My only complaints about the game.
IF I ever do a second playthrough I'll likely be perusing your builds, since I don't want to spend hours reading through everything.
It's a big system and there's a lot to know, but it's worth mentioning demon slayer was bugged until recently and the buff against demons wasn't increasing, so that might have been part of your problem
Now just romance Arueshalae and you also become a demon’s layer.

Why 18 wis over just keeping it at 14-16…? I’m obviously not anywhere near as knowledgeable as you are, I actually just recently picked up a laptop mostly to play Wrath because of your videos and playing Kingmaker on both my PS4 and PS5 was just too buggy and crashed all the time but I loved the pathfinder system for builds etc.
I’ll digress but for example with a Aasimar Plumekith your stat spread could be 14 20 14 10 14 7… as Teifling Faultspawn 14 20 14 8 14 7… also I like invisibility with the Aasimar over Hideous laughter because that way I can scout ahead as a ranger(how I roll play the character) I’m playing core pretty much but I changed it so I can retrain and negative effects are removed after a rest(I hate using consumables unless during a fight…🤷🏻♂️).
Sorry for the ramble but is the higher wisdom needed for saving throws later in the game…? I’m early enough in my play through that I could easily start over but I don’t want to be kicking myself or forced to lowering the difficulty to get passed certain parts just because I screwed up at character creation…
My second play through I was wanting to build an Arcane Trickster but I was going to dump wis in favor of having a lil charisma for persuasion and use magic device checks…
I enjoy your builds and guides because it seems to be rooted in common sense and roll playing more so over just min maxing to the extreme or multiple level dips in 4-5 classes like you can see some people do… plus I’m not looking at playing anything higher then core with the few tweaks I mentioned…

I know I may be over thinking it but I built a similar build in Kingmaker but with only using 12 wisdom and higher strength because I know from my D&D experience that ranger’s spells aren’t all that good… I was smashing everything pretty much all the way through but need to retrain some party members because I pretty much made Octavia an archer with her feats and gave Valerie a bunch of power attack and cleaving abilities over defensive ones 🤦🏻♂️ but to me that’s part of the fun and strategic thinking that makes these games good.

You'd want to swap out the ranged feats for either vital strike or cleave lines but yeah
From a pure optimization perspective kitsune with master shapeshifter is the strongest race for this character.
What makes the Kitsune better than the Tiefling or even the Human for this build?
@@taomahNEGEV kitsune counts as being polymorphed in human form so you get the benefit of master shapeshifter mythic ability.

why I got -4 penalty in my atak in every combat when enemy is in combat with OTHER character.
Because you don't have the precise shot feat which cancels that out
