My dad had a 79 berlinetta but had to sell it in 1996 when money in the house got tight. He loved it. Always been a dream of mine to track it down and buy it back for him one day

  • @TheREALOC1972

I absolutely love these late run of the 2nd gen camaro's. Back in High School I had a 76 Camaro and one of my best friends had a 79 Camaro that I now have. Right after High School we both went in the Army and both ended up at Fort Campbell and then after we got off active duty he went in the National Guard and I went into the reserves and we both went to work at Saturn on the other side of Nashville from Fort Campbell, then 2 years later he transfered to Buick and moved to Detroit because his wife was originally from Michigan while I stayed there in Spring Hill, Once I hit my 20 year mark I retired but he was going to stay until he hit 25 but was killed in Afghanistan in 2014, 8 months shy of his 25 year mark, he was going to come home in 3 months and put his retirement packet in because it takes about 6 months to get done. Back in June his mom called me and asked me if I wanted the car because his dad had passed away in March and she knew they both would want me to have the car, so the next day I attached my trailer to my truck and my son and I drove from Northwest Arizona where I live now to Central Missouri to get the car along with a 350 engine that he had thinking he wanted to put it in the car, after getting home with it we were cleaning out the car and I found a yellow notebook that lined out what he wanted to do with the car so that's EXACTLY what i'm going to do with it, even down to the GOD AWFUL UGLY Mint Green Paint job, Turns out he wasn't going to put the 350 in the car, he was going to clean it up and sell it to help fund the car build, so I have a buddy that needed a 350 so I sold it to him for $500 along with another 305 that ran but will need a rebuild that I just gave to my son to put in his 73 Nova 4 door project that he's working on.

305 weren't the best hp motors but there basically a 350 with less compression and cubic inches.....you can swap any sbc In there

  • @gkauto1959
    @gkauto1959 Рік тому

Im also deep into 2nd gen Camaros and I can say the 305 v8 you have there is a winner for a daily driver, these motors get hated on since they are not a 350, but once you run all the essentials (ign tune up, plugs and plug wires, oil change and clean out all those smog hoses to stop air leaks) that 305 will give you years of great mileage and trouble free operation, for years I had a 350 in my 74 camaro, and once I tried a 305 with a good torque camshaft, you really dont need anything else for your ride. Smooth bottom end response, good mileage (I get over 25 mpg with my 305) good enough power for passing and reliable as a SBC always is, your current set up will be everything you would want out of a daily driver!

A lot of people frown upon this generation of Camaro/Trans Am/Berlinetta as heavy regulations were set during the oil crisis. These days, a muscle car must be defined as something obnoxiously loud and powerful, but this had some quality to it.

KYLE!!!!!! Dude this right here just made my day. The second gens, especially the 78 to 81 are my favorite. All my life we've had at least one 80/81 Z28. The Z in my profile picture I've had since 94, when I was 3 and a half. It's an 80 Z28 all original minus a jegs true dual exhaust system from long tube headers back to mufflers, no cats. Car sounds like it has a cam. I love the RS and the Berlinetta. This is so badass man. Been following you for many many years...love that you love old GMs and give them so much love. Rock on brother

This reminds me so much of the brown 1977 Z28 I bought 20 years ago and restored in my mates garage and up my driveway. It had a 350 small block with a 4 speed manual transmission I had the original paperwork, Build sheet, pink slip for the first owner and original invoice. Only had it for six years but loved driving it around, always got looks as not very common here in the UK.

I don’t know if you heard that clicking noise when you crank the engine over, but my guess would be that the fly wheel might be a little gummed up. You might want to clean that before it becomes a problem. Other than that, you’ve got one hell of a car there. I can’t believe it runs as good as it does after having sat for 25 years. Bet those Crager S/S wheels will clean up pretty good! Vintage "80's" mod with the BF T/A's too! Even has the "big 'n little" stance to it.. Probably not worth a full resto, but get it road worthy and if the engine is still good, maybe a 4bbl and some new exhaust, clean up the interior and flip it...

Kyle awesome Camaro. You will definitely get a lot of views with this Camaro project. Probably need to rebuild carb, yes major tuneup. I would replace fuel pump might not be supplying adequate volume or pressure. There is a bunch of parts still available for this Camaro project. Yes I would keep it because I myself have a 1978 Camaro. Looking forward to see your build up of your Camaro. 👍😎🛠🧰

Where can I find the parts? My son had a 1979 Camaro he was going to restore with his son. Unfortunately, he passed away before he could make it happen. My grandson is now 23 and wants to restore this in memory of his Dad, since they had planned this as a project for both of them. Please share
your contact or contacts for Camaro parts if you will. I know this would make my grandson's day! Thank you in advance!!

I'm about to get me a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport. Has the 4.0 L Inline 6 motor and only has a 110K original miles or so. Looking forward to driving it and showing all the new car lovers how cool classics are too. :)

I own a 79 Z28 and i always wondered, What is the Main difference between a Berlinetta and a Z28? i know cosmetically the Berlinetta removes the hood scoop and the side flares, but this one has the rear spoiler which the Berlinetta usually takes off. i do notice Berlinetta's come with smaller engines as well so i take it's just performance difference?

First, pull that carb and get its idle and main circuits cleaned out, adj the mixture screws and you'll then just have to get after the ignition and you'll be good!

I'm stepping back from car reviews for the time being. I will still film car tours and what not, but in addition to keeping youtube up, i'm also starting a restoration business with a friend of mine. It's called K & J Design and Autoworx, LLC.

what you need is a clicky claky pump, some gas of known origin and a tonya harding to bash the fuel make it happener if the needle gets stuck. also having a clicky clacky pump puts less strain on the starting whirler when pumping bad fuel out of the tank. Also feed it Berryman B12 fuel additive straight to the fuel make it happner so it will clean up the junk in there and run smooth.
(wisdom i have learned from Derek Bieri of Vice Grip Garage)

allow a feller to translate :)
clikcky clacky pump: electric fuel pump
tonya harding: a hammer or a imploment of bashing.
      starting whirler: aka a starter
fuel make it happener: a carburator
Berriman B12: fuel additive/cleaner available at O`reilly Auto parts.
