A similar thing happened to me. I ordered #12 from my local Chinese restaurant and when I got home, I realized they forgot my eggroll!
What wild timing. I just put out a video last night about a similar situation yesterday where an X-Men 130 was left out of the collection I just bought. We even ended our vids with the same advice - “Make sure you get what you pay for.”
I’m glad you pushed hard enough that she ultimately refunded you but everything is a learning experience. I try to check and make sure that whatever book or two that got me there is in there before I leave.
This happens a lot. It would happen all the time when people hunted comics on Craigslist. You’d see a collection and see a Spiderman 300 and a few othered and when you got there it was already picked through.
Exact same thing happened to us 5 years ago. I walked back in and the owner had pulled back the book. Infuriating...
You always have to guard yourself against getting scammed. I'm bummed that you didn't get the book that you were seeking, but glad you got your flow back!
You're absolutely in the right it's almost like bait and switch
My reaction to the Batman 251 was the same as yours! Seeing that hurt my soul!
Man, I had the exact same thing happen to me off of a FB Marketplace listing. Nice lot of around 70 SA DC books for around $350 but in the lot was the first Batgirl, Ist Silver Scarecrow, Ist SA Riddler (something like that--it was a while back) and a few others and I was really, really wanting the the Batgirl. I meet the guy in a parking lot in the rain and give the box just a quick check. I see a few of the better books I was there for and assumed everything else was there but when I got home--an hour later--neither the Riddler nor the Batgirl were there. In all seven of the best books were gone. I still made pretty decent money off of the deal and added some books to my collection but man, I was fuming over it for a while. In the end I had to accept is as a win, just not a windfall and remember that there are many other times--more often than not--where I do really well on deals. But, yeah, it sucks. Bad form on them for doing that. I'm new here and am really enjoying your content. Take good care.
When challenges arise, instances like this become increasingly common. It's disheartening to see how some in the comic collecting hobby take advantage of others for the sake of a book. I stay vigilant and cautious, whether it's navigating estate sales, eBay, local comic shops, or dealing with individuals. It's regrettable that such measures are necessary, but the present circumstances demand it.
Be careful next time.
Bro!!! Do more videos like this!! But you should have probably kept the Batman 251.
It sucks for sure, but making sure everything is there in person is the best takeaway. Sorry that happened but glad you got the refund
I don’t think that was meant as innuendo cover, modern sensibilities just assigned a different hilarious meaning to it.
She knew.
I had a similar thing happen to me with a more modern collection. Originally 3 asm 361. Next day i pick em up, bring the collection home -only 2.
one important thing you learned was to check those books before you leave,....thank goodness it wasnt for a much bigger price and it went south somehow.....
When I buy collections, I make sure the books are there that were in the photos. No exception I do it with the person in front of me. I use the excuse that I am looking for black mold... Also gives me a chance to look what else is in the lot in case it total crap gives me a chance to back out if they took leading photos to try and get more money out of me. The black mold thing did happen to me I bought a small collection did not check it got home and bam black mold not foxing had to throw them all away. So now I really do check for that.
I agree with you. In my very limited experience that was an encouraging video that you can stand up for yourself against what you think is a scam. It does suck that in this hobby, as it is for me, you can’t trust everybody in the business.
Put them on blast, protect others they will try to scam. Don't protect the scammers.
