I think prices should be less than retail and a good deal leaving room for profit for the resale. I don't think 10 dollars for a resale of 250 is ok..Sad for the deceased who left this for family.

    • @PrimeTimeTreasureHunter
      @PrimeTimeTreasureHunter  11 місяців тому +7

@@poppadoc5614 the owner was not deceased. He moved and no longer wanted the items. Family needed to liquidate fast. When that happens, it’s just impossible for estate sale dealers to research every item so treasures will often be found at great value. Bottom line is that if you want max value for a collection, do not have an estate sale. You have to sell it yourself to collectors.

Just seeing that full construction dumpster in front of the house indicates what a chore it was to go through that house, clear out the junk and then organize the valuable things for the estate sale. It's good that they were able to separate the treasures from the trash and get a little something for it, even if it was pennies on the dollar. It's also nice that resellers were able to buy the stuff and then find interested buyers who truly wanted it.

I was lucky enough to help my parents downsize while they were still alive and well. It took me two months and I got to spend time with my whole family at one time. We had fun, some of it was hard, my mom was a mild hoarder, but very neat and clean, so nobody ever knew. We all took the things that meant a lot to us. We donated a lot to a woman’s shelter, so my mom felt good. It’s nice to know that we won’t have to go through this when my parents head off to the pearly gates. They feel good living in a small, easy to care for condo, not thinking about whose problem all their stuff would be.

You should also shine your black light on glass, porcelain, and ceramic pieces because it shows cracks. I use my black light to authenticate vaseline glass, which glows neon yellow or neon green under black light. I have quite a collection. I don't think vaseline glass is made anymore because the product in the glass that causes it to glow was deemed unsafe (maybe lead or something), so any vaseline glass you see is at least vintage, if not antique. An interesting thing I read about black lights also is that you can use them to look for tomato slugs on your tomato plants because, apparently, they glow green. I was not able (maybe thankfully) to find any tomato slugs, BUT, I found their trails, you know, the slimy stuff, and THEY glow under the black light.

28:00…to the right of the vase in your hand…on the table, is possibly an Emile Gallé vase. It’s green and cream or yellow…the flowers are bas relief…they are dark with dark stems and leaves. Also sometimes called Cameo glass due to the fact that they have a 3 dimensional look. I can’t tell for certain..could be in the style of, but Gallé glass is very desirable and can be $$$. Seeing this house had a glass collector, that would probably be one to pick up. Look for something like that in the future..they are very distinctive, signed Gallé in script. Curious if anyone else thought the same. Lots of gorgeous glass in that sale! Ty for showing us how to choose what types of items resell well. First time here..subbed!

It was probably some natural stone, such as soapstone, like the 2nd little carved trinket box. The "filtration" system on the small teapot was because they didn't have teabags. The pontil, or punty, is a solid metal rod that is usually tipped with a wad of hot glass, then applied to the BASE of a vessel to hold it while the glassblower shapes the form. It often leaves an irregular or ring-shaped scar on the base when removed. This is called the “pontil mark.”
(The pontil mark is always on the base of the vessel, and is NOT formed by the blow pipe.)

Hi... if an art piece has the info and/or photo of the Artist on the back, it usually means it came from an Art Gallery or an Artist's Studio... the art could be worth a lot... I also noticed the works were signed & perhaps numbered. That is also a clue of art that may be of a higher value.
I had a real feeling about the 2nd art piece at the end. After the ducks! The one that you said was wood block by Utamaro. My reserach shows that this is an antique piece for sure, &
it may be very valuable. The artist Utamato lived 1753 - 1806... so if it's an original piece from the artist, it's approximately two hundred years old or maybe even older.
Heres the info I copied & pasted 4U:
*Known as the best woodblock print maker in Japan?
Kitagawa Utamaro [c. 1753-1806] is considered by many to be one of greatest of all Japanese woodblock artists due to his inventive style, bold use of light and dark tones and, particularly, his sublime portraits of beautiful women, such as this piece from 1798, A Woman Wiping Sweat.

36:00 I'm not an expert but I learned this from Lady Mary Beth. Begin by looking at the bottom for wear, check the mark (she's very knowledgeable on the marks also) and remember that some 'hairline cracks' can simply be a sign of age, which could be a good thing because there is a thing called 'stress fractures'. It's simply because it's old. If there's no chip that caused the crack is another thing to remember.

The iridescent glass vessel with stopper isn't carnival glass...
The tag on it said 'Lundberg Studio 1999'. At $75 dollars it would still have been a bargain, and you could have doubled or tripled your investment. I'm curious why you didn't take a moment to do an image search or google the name 'Lundberg'. It was right there on the tag!

Hey, I was watching a slightly older episode where you were struggling with some books that had stickers on the dust jackets that, when removed, pulled away some of the cover. There’s a product called un-du adhesive remover that will dissolve the adhesive and leave little or no trace that anything was ever there. I’ve used it in lots of situations and it’s left everything intact. I’ve used it on glossy boxes of vintage items where someone has stupidly slapped a price tag right along the front, the back of an antique painting where the artist penned a message 110 years ago and it’s now obscured by a price tag. Just makes me shake my head and think “oh, the humanity!” Certainly test it for yourself, but it’s one of my top five products. And it’s pretty inexpensive and available about anywhere. I get no compensation, although the company is certainly welcome to start anytime ! Anyhoo-hope that helps.

I haven’t read the other comments, but concerning anything made of Ivory, you have to do the research of where the item came from in order to get around the federal law on the ban of selling ivory items. As long as you can prove when it was made, if it was before the bans went into effect you can still sell ivory anywhere. It is legal to sell anything that is made of ivory as long as you can prove it was from an ESA source and was made before 1989.

Amazing estate sale and haul my friend. You've really quite the dive into art glass and related - way to go and shipping isn't very hard at all. So many Swarovski and Murano pieces!! I was shocked at the prices - almost garage sale pricing - what a score!! I might would have kept the tortoise glass vase even with that tiny chip - I sold a couple/few Fenton pieces like that - simply disclosed the blemish - the buyer can hide the chip when displaying and you can price to move it and still make some money - that said, without a makers mark and given the size and some small risk in shipping, it's not horrible to have passed on it either. We'll done overall PT - $582 well spent!! CHA CHING!!

Do that and you will be fine. I have literally never had an item break using this process, large or small, with any shipping service.
