I am so addicted to this wonderful recipe. I make it two or 3 times a week, and have with rice, a wrap, ryvitas or even on its own. Thank you. x
Speaking about red lentils, today at work some colleagues brought some homemade foods and usually I can never eat anything but one has made (or more like her mum) a Turkish lentil dish, basically cooked lentils mixed with chopped onion, parsley, green onion, some bulgur and formed into these fingers and you wrapped them in lettuce and top with lemon juice and eat cold, it was sooo good ! And vegan! I must have eaten half of them, because others were more interested in meat dishes. But yeah, that's something I have to learn to make because I love red lentils but don't know many ways of cooking them
piupiu the turkish dish you had is called mercimek köftesi. I love it!
its actually not with lentils. the main mass is bulgur and the dish is called kisir.
I cooked this Dahl tonight and ate it with a friend of mine. It was delicious. Thank you for the recipe. Although red lentils cook fast but I had soaked them for several hours. It is recommended that you soak red lentils at least for an hour before cooking. I also fried the onions and all the spices in coconut oil. All the aroma and medicinal qualities of spices is released once fried in oil.
This looks like the easiest and the best! The five most common spices anyone already has and add stock! Yes a wonderful idea!
I've played this video over many times while cooking this dish for the first time for the music. Great choice and great recipe
I love your sense of using ingredients in your cooking 😍

We let be cooking a daal.... Followed how you did it and made sweet flat bread with gram flour.... Delicious😋
I just made mine and god it tastes good! It kinda has a meat texture to it!
Yay dahl! Its the comfort food you never knew you were missing! For Americans you can get red lentils at Trader Joes for crazy cheap too.
Yeah it is such a cheap meal!
this looks so yummy! can you add coconut milk to it as well?
You should soak the lentils before cooking; overnight preferably. There are natural chemicals on lentils and legumes that prohibit some vitamins and minerals from being absorbed when eaten. Soaking (and rinsing) first, greatly reduces that prohibitor.
Thats kinda how I cook dahl aswell but I eat it without the rice. I love your editing
I love it without rice too! Thank you :)
Yum. I'm Indian and this has always been a staple. I will put vegetable stock in mine next time :)
It's one of my absolute favourites! Do you just make it with water normally?
Madeleine Olivia we do all the same but use oil to fry;)
Yum
I did it today :) It's fantastic!!! :D
Awesome!!!
It looks delicious. I'm definitely going to try it :}
Let me know if you do!
I will :)
First boil lentils with turmeric and salt cook it properly it looks undercooked and then heat oil in a pan put your chopped onions and tomatoes, add your turmeric coriander and paprica and then put your entire boiled lentils "dahl" serve hot 😘
yum yum
i am going to make this today :)
i am making this again today😍
it is amazing😍 and full of protein
i just made it again today
Chopped tomatoes in can come in many sizes. What size can of tomatoes is used in this recipe?
Hey Madeleine, just bumped into your videos, they are cool. You can eat dal with yogurt as well.Try it sometime. Good luck, and you are pretty pretty :)
You had me at Dhal
dahl goalz
I want to try that recipe but I don't have a scale. Appriximately, how many cup of red lentils do I need?
Would just using garlic powder and onion powder be the same as using the actual vegetables?? Or would it make a big difference??
You should try out Ethiopian lentil dishes.
Hey there....love your channel....Just wondering if you soak the lentils first.....Just made this and I soaked my lentils....I put in half the required stock and mine is still soggy-ish....😣
No I don't soak them! Try cooking them for longer until all the water is absorbed :)
💅🏿💋 Thanks Queen
Man that intro is jammin
Dont have stock , water??
Recipe and method is in the description! Let me know if you try it out!
This worked like a charm! Just made rice using your instructions and it was brilliant! Thanks again!!
+Robyn Kurdek So happy to hear! Learning that rice method changed my life haha
Do you think it will be reallly different without the stock and use water instead?
It just won't be quite so flavourful. If you have marmite this works well as a stock substitute, or nutritional yeast. Even adding some salt will help!
I have never called a recipe "sexy" before but there is a first time for everything. Just slipped outta my mouth. White rice with red lentils curry, damn thats tasty.
what if I don't have chopped tomatoes
Whats the calories per portion
Made this for the first time and my eyes were watering super bad from the onions😩, it even made my boyfriends eyes water from the other room😔 other than that it was a great recipe ❤️😊
Did it also make your neighbours eyes burn?
how many portions does this make?
PawsOnPages Ana it serves 4 generous portions :)
Before you make this, soak the lentils in water For an hour or two
I am not hungry anymore, I just want to dance now :D
you need a pressure cooker in your life :)
Stupid question but is chopped tomatoes the same as crushed tomatoes for us in the U.S.?
chopped tomatoes have bigger pieces
Hmm, I'd prefer a Roald Dahl, but this will have to do.
I see you make a lot of indian food! let me know if you need some suggestions :) Will gladly help
Looks yummy but when I cook it I let it simmer 2 hours due to the chili and peppers. It's a yummy dish!!!!!!
Oooooh I bet that makes it taste so so so good! I sometimes leave it longer to make the spices come out too but have never done it for 2 hours!
+Madeleine Olivia actually when you undercooked with spices it does not do the dish justice and you can actually get ill from things like chili if they are not cooked in a prolonged manner...heartburn, gas in the chest, tummy ache. So I never cook dishes like this less than 2 hours. I learned this from an excellent chef. Really try it the difference will make it worth it and you will never want to go back! 😀
Liz Gonzalez Oooh wow thanks for the tip! I am just lazy and want things quickly in the my belly haha. Will definitely try it in the future on a day where I am prepared. Do you keep adding water as it cooks?
+Madeleine Olivia no you just put on the water and whatever it needs spice wise - tomatoes etc and bring it to a boil then once it boils put it on low or simmer for 2 hours and stir occasionally. That's it! Viola!!!!
it looks good and great and tasty but...we do have a SUPER different way to eat legumes here, so the food cultural barrier is huge! jjjj. I tried hummus like last year and i love it now..so maybe i try this recipe...i hope you do not take it wrong, it is not my intention at all, it is just that i find very interesting the those "culinary barriers" 🤗
Are you from Spain Isabel (if I'm remembering right!)? This is an Indian recipe and I love Indian food! You should try it for sure it is very delicious! How do you cook your legumes? And of course not I don't take it wrong at all, there are lots of foods people eat in different countries that are very different and strange to me too!
+Madeleine Olivia nothing close to vegetarian...jjj. legumes are eaten traditionally with meat, a lot of meat, so for me, although i do not eat meat now, that is the way i have always seen so it is the way "it is" , the same happens with olive oil, for me is liquid gold (i know it has a lot of calories and that you do not have to abuse and better to use it raw)...food traditions! and family food traditions..thats another history..jjj. but maybe i give your recipe a go..i will let you know..jjj
Isabel Velado I can totally relate! A lot of British food is very heavily meat/dairy oriented. So fish and chips, meat pies, roast dinners, meat and cheese sandwiches etc. Luckily for me my favourite foods have always been foods from other countries (English food sucks honestly) so Indian, Thai, Mexican, Italian etc. Definitely try it as it is very delicious and hearty :)
times? quantities?
d kali look in the description prior to complaining :))
