Back in 1962 my Pop bought me a breech loading single barrel 12 gauge shotgun at a yard sale. The man wanted $10 for it and Pop offered $7 and the fact that the shotgun was going to be his sons first firearm and the old blunderbuss, we nicknamed it, became mine . Now back then I was a mighty skinny 12 year old boy and that 12 gauge kicked like a mule. So I learned to make every shot count and never take a shot where there was any chance of missing. Squirrels, Rabbits, Pheasants, and Deer were my quarry in those days, mostly squirrels. Mom made a squirrel potpie to die for and many a time she would send me into the woods out back of the house to bring home a pile of squirrels. Me and the ole blunderbuss never let her down.

E.R. Amantino makes the stoeger doubles. My grandma bought me the same gun sas the Stoeger brand stamp when I was 12 from Otasco. I am 53 now. I hunted squirrels, rabbits and deer not to mention hogs up until about two years ago. I bought the Stoeger Uplander because it is the same gun except for a difference in the wood. I am not disappointed especially with the interchangeable chokes on the Stoeger. The old E.R. Amantino has improved cylinder and modified. The Stoeger I I've two modified for small game and two full for deer and hogs with buckshot. Way more versatile and let's see if the Stoeger lasts 40 years in the woods.

I bought a Stoeger uplander about 2 months ago. I paid right at 500 dollars with shipping and FFL fees. It came with 4 different screw in chokes. I had a set of chokes that as a happy accident went right into it. I have the right barrel with a skeet choke and the left barrel has a modified choke in it. I shoot skeet with it every other weekend. It is a pure pleasure to shoot. I know it’s not made in the USA. I cannot afford a good quality side by side that is made in the USA. I will admit, I had to admit. I had to do some dremmel work to slick it up a bit. It has 26 inch barrels on it. Those length barrels have enough weight to them that they pretty much open the action without to much of an issue. My stoeger coach gun had to be polished quite a bit to make it open easily. With that being said. I only paid 250 bucks for it. So having to spend half a day slicking up the action was just fine with me. Stoeger makes a good enough for the money firearm. I have polished up the action on my coach gun to the point that when I swing thee lever open the barrels just fall down. I also bought a set of springs for it. I think they are made by wolf, I think. I have fired probably 800 to 1000 rounds through my coach gun just playing around with it. My uplander well I really have no idea how many countless rounds through it. 3-5 rounds of skeet twice a month for 4 months now. Plus countless rounds fired at my son’s house just shooting at hand throws. Both of them are just fun guns to own.

Another advantage of a SxS is that you can get adapter tubes from Short Lane and other companies and shoot a variety of pistol calibers or smaller shotgun gauges. Their rifled tubes are much more accurate than one might imagine. They'll also work in a single barrel or in the top barrel of an O/U; some might be too long for use in an O/U's bottom barrel.
