I have to tell you I found this video.... went to amazon and ordered the nail polish organizers.... and LOOOOOVE IT!!! Thank you for such a great idea!!!!!
Thank you so much for this video! I have not been able to find a suitable storage solution for my distress inks! The lipstick container is brilliant! Just ordered two of them! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this idea! 👍♥️👍
Thank you very much, Darlene!!! I got a few of these from Amazon and am now very happy with not only my distress ink order but with sprays and other things. Now I can find what I need, no aggro!!!!
Thank you for sharing this organization tip... my first tray came today and it fits perfectly in a side drawer of my antique desk... ordering two more... one for my other distress inks and the other one for my new Ranger Dye ink pads that fit perfectly on their sides - 3 per row x 4 rows = 12... I'm so happy to have the perfect solution that fits me... now I'm checking out a lipstick stand for my Gelatos! have a great day!
OMG!!! Thank you so much for this totally awesome idea!!! I actually had a similar container from Target (only $3.49) and gave this a try. I LOVE IT!! I bought some more containers and have all my non-stampin up, non-distress ink stored in these and they fit in my drawers perfectly. This is a game changer really. Now my ink pads are within easy reach and I can pull out my container and put it on my work surface, then it goes neatly back into the drawer. I really can't say enough good things about this idea!!!
Thx for sharing your storage solutions, there are some great ideas. Especially like the nail polish trays if I had a designated craft room... alas I don't"!
Personally though I feel that there is lots of unused space in your drawers and as I have limited space to store my crafting stuff that would drive me nuts. Also, I do have some OCD tendancies and as I have to craft in my living room I like to have stuff that is not strictly decor (artwort, ornaments etc) out of view unless it's in use.
I have my inks stored on the side in a small bedside drawer unit, and have labelled the sides (I just do them one by one as I get a new ink so very little work is involved) so I can see the colors instantly. In a drawer that is approx 12.75in square, I can store 22 distress and other inks in each of 4 rows (made with cardboard dividers that take up virtually no space) so 88 in total. They are not jam-packed in, so there is wiggle room but they also don't fall over either so it's a perfect fit. But I don't have 88 inks...yet...
I also have my Viva Decor Inka Golds in the same unit also stored on their sides and other misc. bits & pieces as my collection is still growing. If all 3 drawers in my unit were filled with inks that would be a total of 264 in a very small but easily accessible space!
Glad your storage system works well for you, easy to see what you have, grab it and go! However, my Distress Ink Pad lids don't stay on very well, and the ink dries out, so....I put rubber bands around them really tightly to hold the lids on since they don't seal well, and then I put them in a plastic container with a silicone seal in the lid. Keeps them nice, but not as easily accessible as yours!
love that you're always so practical, Darlene! I love the ink storage solution! Thanks for sharing!
That's a good collection of ink pads! I'm impressed! And love the different organization systems especially the plastic nail polish container! So cool!
Thank you! Thank you! I just started a long overdue redo of my craft room and have been struggling with how to better store my inks. Your solutions are PERFECT!!!!
Thanks for this Darlene. I am using the Alex drawers to store my ink, and I have the long single tray and my non Distress inks are always falling. I think these compartmentalized ones will do the trick. I also LOVE the idea for the distress inks. I have to see if I have space to have them out, but now they are crammed into the Alex draw and I can't flip through. I have labeled them (and it IS a pain !) but I would rather store them the way you have. I appreciate you sharing this with us.
TFS such an amazing idea!!! I saw a comment about the color might drip to the bottom, but I guess you can always rotate them once in a while. Great storage solution. Gracias! thank you for letting us know!
WOW !!!! thank you Darlene....just what I've been searching for......thank you for sharing....I really really appreciate it. ....

Good ideas. I did something similar for the 3-section divided tray. I used an old Monopoly game section money holder upcycled from my unused game stash! Didn't cost me anything... tfs!
Omgee I LOVE your distress ink storage solution! I had recently bought supplies to build a case, but those clean and clear cases look fabulous! TFS Big hugs, Kristina
Thanks, Darlene. I wish I had enough room to be this organized. I have my inks stored in airtight plastic boxes and it is a big pain in the neck. But.... I use ceiling fans in order to help keep my electric bill as low as possible. I feel that because of this, that the inks will dry out faster. I sure wish I could find a more convient way. I bought some zip bags on e-bay that I hope I can keep each pad stored in individually, so I can keep them more handy and not have to dig through a box for the color that I am looking for. The nail polish cotainers look great. I just don't have the room.
I have all the ceilings fans going in my house at all times, plus heating and air conditioning as needed. I have no problems with ink pads drying out - just keep the lids on securely. :)
+Bryana Thank you, Bryana. Since I do more buying than stamping, ha ha, I have been afraid but it is such a hassel to get to my ink pads when needed. I may just go ahead and give this a try. I might do more stamping if the pads were a bit more accessable. Thanks again for your input. It is nice to know what other people experience when under the same conditions.
I have had two of my distress inks seep over even with them sitting upright. I noticed a couple ink drops on the top of the base. I cleaned it up, made sure the lids were on properly, and the next day I had two huge ink spots. That still did not solve the problem. They continued to leak. I turned them upside down and shook off as much as possible, cleaning up my mess with blank cardstock. I've moved them, added paper towels and a plastic tray under them. So far so good.
Love it all. I was looking for something to store my Tim Holtz ink pads. I didn't know u can store them that way.
Your video and suggestions helped me a LOT. Thank you so much for taking the time to share! Blessings & Hugs! Lisa xx
My SU caddy is stiff too but I think its just the way they are. I never tried other inks in it though. I may need to purchase a 2nd caddy. I love all your videos. TFS!
2024, so glad I came across this video. The nail polish stands will be perfect for me. I'm off to spend dollars now. (from Oz)
Thank you so much. Finally a useful way to store these wonderful inks.
Thanks for showing how you store your inks.😊
Thank you! Great solutions to my mess of stamps!!
The nail polish holders, tried it . Love it.
I recently heard Tim Holtz say that the dye ink pads have the ability to hold the ink in "suspension" so that it doesn't matter how you store them, they will stay wet and ready to use. He did say that he stores all of his with the top up.
Awesome storage ideas! Especially the Distress! Thanks.
Fantastic! Just placed my order 🥰
I was always told that you are suppose to store your inks upside down so that the ink is always at the top of the pad. I love the idea of the distress inks in the polish holders though. Have you had any trouble with the ink pooling to the bottom? If you haven't had any trouble with that, I may have to get myself some of those holders. ~ Thanks, Sherry
+Sherry Wolfe Hi Sherry. No, I haven't had that problem at all. I've always stored my distress pads face up, and I've stored the others on their sides for almost 2 years and haven't noticed that.
Thanks so much for letting me know your history with your ink pads. I am going to have to try the polish trays.
I've heard a lot of different information about storing distress ink pads and distress oxides. So I contacted Ranger and Tim Holtz himself. They both told me ink pads can be stored vertically with no issues of ink running out of the pad. I also heard a long time ago about storing ink pads upside down to keep the pad moist, I've stored mine both ways and found no difference in how long the ink pad lasts. I have a blank archival ink pad I store vertically. I use i very often and it still makes a crisp stamp and it's about 6 years old. Hope all this helps.
Renee Cassese thank you, that is good to know,
Tim Holtz has said storing them flat normal is ok. so funny i happen to have never heard to store them vertically LOL but upside down & flat is best for pigments, whereas Distress Oxide flat & right side up is fine. on the side or rightside up for regular inks is ok.
Great ideas! Thank you.
This has been a HUGE help thank you SO much for sharing xxx
THANK for all your information.
Great storage tips - thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much!
I had mine stored like this, but changed it. Will the ink not run to the bottom stored like this.
Genius-thank you so much for this great idea!!!
What a great storage idea!
I l.o.v.e. this issea. This is BRILLIANT,,,,,
I know this video is years old, but I just came across it. Can the three-section drawer trays be used for Distress pads or would they come upen? I love the nail polish holder, but I have more drawer space than counter space. Thanks so much!
A lot of ink pad makers say it doesn't matter how you store your ink pads. I am old very old have some original stamping up pads and other kinds, experimented with them over the years and it hasn't made any difference. I have frozen them not recommended (left in my car at -0) The heat in a car dries them out.
Talk about eye candy!! LOVE this!
I did enjoy this video, thanks for sharing!
great video. Love the nail polish holders. Will have to try and find space for them! LOL
Great storage solutions! TFS
Thanks for the great ideas!
Love your storage solutions but WOW, you have lots of inks! lol ;-)
Tysmfs!
Hugs, Connie!
+C's Vintage Gifts & More
What would u recommend on storing embossing powder?
+C's Vintage Gifts & More I store my powder in wide tupperware containers, with a spoon inside. I show it in my videos a lot.
wow so many nice ink pads
Hi there.. fabulous storage idea.. TFs...!!
How are things working out ? Any new systems in play for inks in the drawers?
I love how you have your distress inks stored. I can't do it this way just because of space. I have a nice size craft room with cabinets and countertops, but not enough to space left for this purpose. Will you incorporate this into your new craft room?
+dgmlmax Yes, definitely!
Hello. Don't they leak ans make a mess? I am afraif to put them on the side in Alex drowr
They shouldn't.
Ranger recommends storing distress inks flat. Have you had any issues with vertical storage?
Looks reat... Very cool storage idea. Tfs.
Would these fit the Distress Oxides? Idk if the Distress Inks & Distress Oxides are the same in size. Thanks in advance!
good idea, thanks
Hello Darlene .my wife is always looking at you at you tube . She likes you very much en she also make some beautiful cards . Did you know that you have a dutch family name ?? We are real dutch . lol. Greetings from Holland . bye bye
+Steven Jonas Yes! My husband's great-grandfather came to the US from The Netherlands. They lived in Iowa for a long time, where there is a big Dutch community. :)
Thanks for sharing.
Do you find that the inks pool toward the bottom of the pads?
+Jeanette Duke Hi Jeanette. No, I haven't noticed that.
Thanks, Darlene! I do love your storage for such easy access.
Is it ok to store standing like that , I have always thought they had to be flat which takes up so much space . These ideas are brilliant , Amazon right.
Ann Mckeown no they are not good to store standing, Best sitting flat.
Thanks for this video! Beautiful storage solutions! I was wondering on which occasions you use non-SU pads. Because I have mainly SU til now, but I want to buy some LF or SSS, as I am not absolutely satisfied with the SU pads being splashy. I know as die inks they even out a little, but not too much :(.
+Rosa- li It usually has to do with color - I want a different color than what SU has. I also have distress inks, which I rarely interchange with SU, since they are completely different. My personal opinion is that the SU inks are better quality than others that you mention - you can see my comparison: livelovecards.com/dye-ink-comparison/
I love this idea but! I tried this and my oxide inks leaked. I thought that these inks could be stored in any any. HELP!
OOh; I think those are the same containers some people are using for their reinkers, which means these could easily be stored TOGETHER.
hello how many colors in the collection not the mini
Shouldn’t the stamp pads be stored flat? I’ve heard it can cause problems with the ink over time, it they are stored on their sides. Have you had any problem with that? Half the time I don’t know what to believe! 😜
Great idea thank you:) I thought inks are supposed to be stored face down so the ink stays to the top??? Is this not true???? Thank you:)))
+Barbara Harrold No, you can store distress inks on their sides or face up.
how do you store your foams for each color of the distressed oxide? do you keep them on the back of each color and if so how?
Je ne pense pas que ce soit une bonne solution de stocker les pads d'encres debout ! Vous n'avez pas eu de soucis de cette manière ?
Great storage, but I am on SSD and that is a little pricy for me . Thanks
Do you have any problems with your inks leaking out of those 3 tiered trays? I love seeing how other people organize their inks. I have all my SU in an old Cassette turn around thing that holds probably 120 inks in it. Works great for me. For my Distress I use the actual Distress ink holder from Ranger though mine is filling up now I may have to think of another way. TFS
+wendalynh No, I haven't experienced any leaking, and I've been storing these ink pads on their sides for almost 2 years now.
Where you bought them
I've always worried about storing inks on their sides. I've seen some of the old Big & Juicy rainbow pads that have been stored sideways and all the different colours of ink have merged!!!
Have you had any issues since you started storing your inks like this?
Did you get that your divider in your Alex storage unit at IKEA? what is it called? Thank you
where you bought them ?
Do u have a link we can go to to find those trays? I need distress ink storage so bad!
+Rosemary Bryson See the video description above! :)
Darlene, will those amazon trays fit the SU ink pads as well?
+Jennifer Victoria Yes, Jennifer, they do.
Darlene DeVries Thank you!! :)
Mine is stiff and tight too... need to lube it up a bit.. :-)
Ii
You have WAYYY too many inks... no way you can possible use all those.. what's wrong with one set unless you get them for free from these companies! Also, the IKEA drawers are ALEX.. not ALEXA...
How would you know how many inks someone uses? Some people love using lots of colors and brands.
Beth Jeans
Yeah.. I'm sure she inks her entire body daily with all these different inks... MMmmmm stainy!
Many people use many colors of ink. Just like some people use many colors of paint or crayons or markers.
This isn't just about color. It's also about permanence, water solubility, movement, etc. Pigment ink, dye inks, Distress inks and alcohol inks all have different properties.
Wow. Judgmental much? It’s really not your call to determine how many inks she needs. Does the cost come out of your budget, or tax dollars? She’s merely showing how she stores her inks for easy access and aesthetic pleasure, because other paper crafters might find the information useful. I, for one, appreciate the tips, as I’ve been trawling the internet looking for craft storage ideas.
