What do I like about farmers? They are inventive, always problem solvers, team players...and they aren't afraid of grease. Welkers...you are the Cream of the Crop!
Please tell LegArm that in my 40+ years of experience in house construction, it takes 90% of the time to complete the first 90% but an additional 90% to complete the last 10%
We built our house 30 years ago and I still have unfinished projects 😂
He's had an awesome crew from what's been on the tube. But i've seen it like the first 90% gets 50% of the work and the last 10% gets the rest. Finishing is finishing. When "she" walks around and mumbles... Plan two weeks but pray for two days!! Good crew=$$
Isn't that the truth!
And yes, that's equal to 180/ percent of the time
The Uncle I worked for in the summertime loved finish work. I guess that's why I got to do all the drywall. If he didn't 🤔 think my perfa-taping was good enough, he would call in the knockdown spacklers.
Electrical engineer here - not all motors are rated for VFD use. The nameplate should indicate if it can be used with a VFD
Good to see you guys survived the balloon invasion up there. 🙃
We were up in the air about using the bowling bowl cannon to take it out.......😊
😆
That 318 may be bored but Bob never is boring. Actually had good luck with 318s in the 2 vehicles I owned with them. The engines went well over 200K with no major issues. In the rust belt all of the trucks of that year rusted away already. Stay safe and healthy.
You are meant to remove the caliper separate and before removing the bracket. After the caliper is removed there is room to reach the bracket mounting bolts.
exactly what I was thinking.
I just changed out ball joints, a arm's, steering knuckle, tie rods, shocks, pads, rotors, sway bar bushings, stabilizer link's, coolant hoses, heater hoses, power steering lines and pump, plugs and wires, and the thermostat on my 05 ranger i got after my dad passed away in 2020. I still have to change out the fuel filter, brake hoses, new calipers, and i'll be glad it's done. I have a new belt and pulleys to throw on it as well. The truck was from south carolina originally, but it's in michigan now, and thankfully the only cancer was on the steering knuckles. I saved the knuckles, because with a good cleaning and paint they can be reused. I didn't feel like messing with restoring the steering knuckles in a cold garage, plus they were not that expensive. I used moog a arm's, and was disappointed the ball joints didn't come with grease fittings, they just don't make stuff as good as they used to. I decided to change the original brake hoses because i use the truck around town, and i didn't want to worry about the hoses collapsing because the truck is 18 year's old. I did the coolant hoses, because they were looking a little swollen. The shocks were pretty shot, should ride a lot nicer. I torqued everything down after getting the full weight of the truck on the suspension so i don't prematurely wear out the new bushings. I plan on doing a trans filter change over the summer, along with changing the diff fluid. It takes me longer than most people, because i have MS, and my whole left side the muscles have wasted to half the size of my right side. I can't feel my hand, which drives me nuts, but i figure out ways to get thing's done. I felt your pain with the busted fingers and knuckles, my hands took a few hits to lol. G-d bless all you Welker's.
...seems like an easy task? Love those words.
Anyone who has changed those ball joints before dang sure knows it's no waltz in the park,My Hats off to ya...Good Job.
Nice to see lots of projects being taken care off.
Farmer, ace mechanic, home builder, what can't you guys do? God bless!
Just in time I am changing ball joints on a 07 Jeep Liberty, another great Chrysler product.
Leg Arms called and he wants the nail back from your sxs. He said it was the last nail needed to finish something on his roof!😂
Some people throw a lot away because the heads are on the wrong end.
9:30 That cutter pin was farmer bent. 😂
Cool to see you fixing up the old dodge, my great uncle had one when I was a kid, I loved pulling on the spring loaded ram ornament on the hood
Nick you really stepped up when Scott got injured and now when hes building his home, great job.
Always a great video. Thank you and God bless.
I went back and watch your series on building the seed cleaner. Pretty amazing effort especially Leg Arms prefab ability. Looking forward to a video of it running again. Was battleship grey going to be the colour? Thanks for you time pulling together these videos, sure enjoy watching them.
Them 360 were a dam good motor
Had one in my 94 new style.
Still love them Ole trucks lol 👍👍💺
You make the videos fun to watch... Even the problems that show up! So fun to watch as you learn along the way.
Салом! Хайрли тонг контентларингиз АЖОЙИБ!!!👍💪
Thanks for showing the projects you are doing.
Nice to see you working, Hollywood!
Nothing like working on trucks all day and coming home to watch someone work on a truck.
Love you guys!
Hello! Never a dull moment...
Thanks for the video watching from Reno NV
Great job Nick fixing the upper and lower ball joints on your truck
I love your video's, Nick. I always look forward to them because you make them interesting and I love your sense of humor!
Nick your tire repair game is on point!
I am hoping that your 2023 harvest is an abundant one. Coming from a Montana ag background myself, I know how tough and unpredictable things can be.
God Bless the Welker's!
we could have watched you clean the shop ;)
l would have changed the ball joints on the other side also, they all likely been driven the same distance, certainly on my customer vehicles, one goes bad, l recommend to change them all.
Awesome video thanks for sharing
Love that pickup
Welkers! We are on a road trip from Alaska to Georgia and we just reentered the good ol US of A and stayed the night in Shelby! What a beautiful place you guys have to farm and it's very exciting for me to get to see it in person stay safe and today seems like it'll be a beautiful day!
Great vídeo Nick.
Nick I'm glad you jump in on these repairs. Others wouldn't. Just want to let you know you can take the brake caliper off of the brake carrier and have access to the carrier bolts without removing the brake line. Also use an impact on your ball joint press, just oil the threads on the press first. Thnx for the great God centered content. I love it!!
Job good. Many more years of life now.
I love your "we can fix anything" attitude.
Great job of wrenching Nick, no thanks to Leg Arms.(LoL) I should have given him a break since he is building a beautiful home for h9is lovely bride and child. God bless all of you and stay warm and safe.
Ah, I remember you getting the puncture when you were live that night. 👍👍👍🇬🇧🇺🇸
I’m no motor expert but I do design a lot of pump stations and motors need to be wound for inverter duty to survive being used with a VFD.
What a sweet old truck! Thanks for givin it some love
Well you got the old Dodge on the road again, well done Nick& Bob, the Cleaner is now equipped with the Single Phase Motor ready to clean your seed for sowing ,you Beaut Fellows, Great learning Video Fellows you are truly Blessed, Bod I heard Kobe ,I thought he may be checking out the restoration work & gave his Barking approval, Blessing & Best Wishes, Regards Trevor.W.Bacelli. Biloela Qld Australia. 👍👍🐕🦌🐨🐨🐨🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦃🦃🐔🐓🐓🦋🦋🦋🏵🏵🏵🏵🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌻🌻🌻🌼🌼🌼🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴
See the patches with the rubber plug that shoves in the hole!!!! Good to keep the steel cords from rusting in the otherwise exposed hole.
Love the 89 Dodge Flatbed 👌
I have changed upper ball joints on the side of the road a couple of times. Not easy with very small amount of tools like a few wrenches and hammer.
Oh yeah, full tine 4x4, the good old daya. Great video. Keep the repair vids coming.
Not full time just auto hubs
I got to believe the other side front joints are worth replacing now as well, you know, do them together.
Wow! That 318 fired right up! We've had multiple trucks with that engine and they have been very dependable!
Great video . Thank you
Another great video from the older brother!
I can't begin to imagine how difficult farming is for you. The extreme weather conditions are simply insane. My family were cattle farmers in Namibia. We farmers in the most perfect part of the country with excellent, natural grazing and more than enough water for the cattle. Mild winters at about 13C, but a few hot summers months at 40C. Really easy compared to what you face. Respect!
Great video!!!
You can hit on the housing around the outside of the ball joint and it will pop right out most of the time.
Great video like always. How the weather. UP in southern Alberta we are going to wait a week or 2 and if the 2 week forecast looks good we may put some peas in the ground. Right now we have no snow and fields and basically dry and not frozen. my uncle things it to easily but got to beat the neighbours am I right.
Now you can do the other side next winter 😎
That 318 is one tough engine!!!!
Very educational thanks for the video. That pea cleaner has really paid for itself. Yeah I found out that cheap is not the to go all the time. God bless catch on the next video
I could use this as a instructional video on how to do the ball joints. Thanks!
You are the shop mechanic these days Nick. And maybe scott can be the shop cleaner the day he returns 😄😄😉😉
Have you considered using Tireject to prevent flats? I use it on my RTV and tow behind mower to great effect.
Hey Welkers I just talked to the Williams Brothers and said hope you guys come to Ohio soon
Man changing that out is a morning work out in itself -- glad ya got er done though !!
Bob driving it like he stole it. Scott has turned into an advisory position. Don't forget to clean up the shop.
Great video Nick
If you want patches to always hold, get the heated clamp at Napa -has an electric heater on the end and cures the patches better than just the cement. They used to sell the "self vulcanizing" patches for bicycle tubes, same principle, but external heat.
Thanks for another great video.
It was interesting and enjoyable.
Nice work on the old dodge pickup. Yes it needed some new ball joints. You and dad made quick work of fixing that. Am sure it drives better now. Nice job nick and dad.
Yes leg arms is still around. I actually saw him in the video.
Getting the pea cleaner going again. Know what you mean on cheap motors. Better to buy a better one to start with. Been there done that myself nick.
Thanks for everything Welkers.
The Iowa Farm Boy.
Thanks Steve!
there are tapered cones on the studs holding that steering arm to the knuckle
More than likely the ball joints on other side close to being shot as well
Freezing the ball joints makes for easier install. A new inner grease seal on the hub is a good idea. Keep up with the great videos.
warming parts up goes a lot faster. Not everybody has liquid nitrogen to spare.
@@frankvandendool882, I just put them in the freezer of the shop refrigerator, worked great and pressed them in.
You the man Nick and Dad 😊 👍👍
Looks like Leg Arms is getting comfortable in that general contractor/supervisor role! 👋🥴
hi nick the arm you could not get off has 3 split cone washers in the arm and to do the caliper you undo the two half inch bolts on the side to remove the caliper that leaves the bracket bolt open to be removed with out undoing the brake line
And like the taper locks on full floating rear axles a shrewd hammer blow on the housing springs them loose so they come out and the steering arm comes free.
Love of your ending I tend to end my days like that
Great job
Handy little tip when you take a rubber brake hose of the caliper save losing your fluid clamp rubber pipe with vice grips on the pipe before removal saves topping up fluid
Am I the only one whose dog freaks out every time I’m watching one of these videos and they start backing up a piece of equipment with the loud reverse beeper 😂. I’ve literally gotta be on my game ready to smash the mute button anytime I hear the beeper lol
Very good Video 👍
Your welcome 😂, GOD BLESS... and family!
Thank you
318 is a tough motor.
Coby sounded like he didn’t like those fortune cookie motors either!
After owning and fixing way to many dodge trucks..the best thing you can do is buy the OTC press tool with the adapters. Saves so much time.
Nick Scott I'm surprised about you! Tho I think that you are handy enough to have made the correct spanner tool or picked one up at your local NAPA store. 😉 But you guys make mechanicing look easy tho 😁
brings back memories for me
Awesome 👌
ATO makes some reasonably priced single phase VFD's. I have used them in the past with no problems.
Ball joints in the freezer 3 or 4 hours . Heat the hole up and it drop right in.
Awesome video. How long did the job take for the ball joint? and also any news on a new Equipment tour ?
I hate doing ball joints.
Using the ol "feel" gage for preloading bearings.
Those are good ole trucks i took my Drivers test in a 86 Dodge 1 ton single wheel 360 4 speed truck .
Hey it's hard to stop a 318 LOL. Strong engine.
Just as heat is your friend when removing ball joints cold is also your friend- put the ball joints into a freezer two hours before installing as it makes it easier
Scott ,wheres the house update? My wife is anxiously waiting lol.
Ha Ha, been thru all that ball joints ordeal on my dodge except here in the salt road capitol of the country( NE PA) alot more rusted parts.
"What do we do now?" Take us for a ride on the Cam-Am
The new pin a bushings for that steering column are ridiculously cheap last time I did the it cost me like 5 bucks at Canadian tire and Napa had them in stock as well
I can't believe they designed the brake line like that.
Is their another u-tube channel besides yours?
