Sweden Part 4. Stormy Wild Weather and our Final Wild Camp.
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- In this video series, Andy (Kent Survival) and I head off to the Swedish Wilderness for a five day canoeing and bushcraft adventure inspired by Dave Bliss’ book ‘Paddles and Polar Bread’. Paddling along the massive lake Stora Le, we experience all the weather Sweden can throw at us, from glorious sunshine, to snow and strong winds whipping the lake up into a raging turmoil of waves and spray. We take all our equipment and food with us in our aluminium Linder canoes and camp in Dano huts or wild camp along the way.
This video is episode four, the final instalment - after setting off for our final camp spot across the lake, we hit the first of our weather for the day - hail! We arrive cold and wet at the designated spot, only to find it lacking for our our needs. A decision is made to get back on the water and head for a wild camp spot. Strong winds and choppy waves are then the order of the day and we get to our final camp exhausted. We spend our last evening on the lake, enjoying some much needed food until a snow storm forces us to retreat to our shelters. Our canoe adventure has been epic - an amazing experience full of varied weather and great times! We will be back, that I'm sure of!
I hope you enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching!

Молодцы!😊
Thank you . Simon .
A realy good watch , thank you for all the work you put into my entertainment .
🐺 Loupis Canis .
Excellent mate.. end of a chapter :) gonna have to speak soon about the next adventure! :)
Oooh the suspense where will it be next . Scotland has some nice locks
Right in brother! 😁🛶
There are still some small secret hidden colonies of vikings living up on the islands up in those large scottish lochs!! Its most disconcerting to be enjoying the paddle up a nice long scottish loch until you spot longboat sails unfurling behinds you and dragonhead prows closing in on your position from all sides?
Its no good trying to explain your reasons for being on their loch when you got a viking sword up yer left nostril? And rest of the scottish vikings are ransacking through both of yer canoes & taking away all of your eqpt?
Being filmed stranded in a pair of y fronts on a scottish island may make good survival tv but it isnt a joke? For those who have been left on the island as longboats sail off with all of yer equipment & you 2 have got nosebleeds from having a viking sword tip rammed up yer noses?
Cuz you both failed due to giggling to understands the ancient norwegian dialects
The 1st time!?
Arounds
Simon knows a few good places in snowdonia!😎
@@davidhuxtable8918 not a loch as such but had something similar happened to me in a pub in East London once!😃

Superb videos! Love the series!
Loved your Swedish adventures
One my favorite camping treats. Fried Apples....save bacon grease have apple peeled, cored and sliced...add apples to hot grease in pan,
Once apples are a bit soft add brown sugar and cinnamon add to pancakes. Yum!!!!
Mmmmmmm!!! 😋👍
Fantastic videos Simon 🛶👌🏻⛺️
That was Andy on the packaging. Great video....will catch the others
Four seasons in one day. They wrote a song about it.
Nice one, Simon.
We also heard that comment when we were in Scotland last fall
Good series.
I’ve been glued to all four episodes of your Swedish adventure Simon! Thoroughly enjoyable and well made. What a great part of the world to adventure in too. Many thanks for sharing. ATB - Ben 👍
Hi ! Mike here again. You picked the worst of all the lakes to paddel in and a little wrong season. In the fall you should be there with all the colours of the trees and the water is warm and you know you can paddle for weeks in the system and see the real beauty of the area. Hope to see you again in the area But after taking the advise and give a true picture of the beauty that it Hilda. Respectfully Mike 🇸🇪
Great trip, thanks for sharing.
Oh, bye the bye. There are people who ARE interested in the production side of the videos, cameras, setup, editing, and all that bumph. :)

Now would have been a good time for the canvas tent with stove .🛶🇸🇪

Glad to see Andy better!
Amazing scenery, amazing weather, amazing photography. So sorry Andy got sick. What a grand adventure!!! Thanks so very much for your experience! Great videos. Truly enjoyable series. Very well done!!!
brilliant
Simon, I carry in my first aid pack Tampons kotex and super glue uses for deep wounds and burns.
For 38 years I worked as maintenance then a so a stocker and sales associate in a store.
When I was able to I be headed for the peace and Serinity of the woods and water.
Stay safe in the woods
James Carryl - I used to be a first aider in a meat works. If you get a knife cut in awkward spots like the skin on the edge of a nail bed then super glue is priceless for when you have to get on with life, rather than sit around feeling sorry about your boo-boo. 3M steri-strips ( paper stitches) are really good for knife slices & cuts once you stem the bleed (compression & elevation mainly) & clean the site up. Where superglue beats Steri-strips is that you have to keep steri-strips & the skin below them dry, otherwise they'll peel off- superglue stays good until you immerse the area in water for a long time.
Awesome Part 4 Simon. Liker 204 here. haha...Really great to be able to share one's adventures with another. Makes it so much better, so as long as your pals that is.
Hahaha - yeah, we had a couple of short trial trips in the UK just to be sure - for both our sakes!! 😂😂👍 Thanks brother!
@@simonablokeinthewoods Good call. 👍🏼😆
LOL that ending at 33:24!
Skál!
😁☕️🍫
Leaky boat, illness and impeding headwinds, what no bear in your mess kit? Nice trip Simon. Hope you had fun. I'm always impressed with the thought you put into your gear. I liked the dunkbag.
😂😂 cheers Steve!
Great adventure. I am sure that there are jealous viewers around the globe. That squeeze blue cheese counted good. Thanks for sharing
Great adventure lads thnx for sharing 🤙🤙👍👍👍
How fortunate you both are to have each other as friends. What a great adventure... Thanks...
Your bird at 2:36 is a white wagtail. I bet you see them in the UK, too.
Looks like an brilliant place to go esp with friends, can't wait for your next outdoor excursion😎
Nice little adventure pal.
Friends for life 👍🏻
Fantastic series. Such a shame we don’t have the same rights to roam in England like they do.
That's one of the best things about Norway too - as long as you're not infringing on cultivated land, or too close to habitation, go for it. Just don't make a fire between April 15th and September 15th, will make you very unpopular and incinerate you bank account.
Great video Simon and you was allowed to sleep in as when Andy was ill he slept all day. Was tgat a dog I heard at 8.36 minutes 😁👍
Hahaha - it was my turn. 😂
Excellent watch from 1-4 ,thank you Simon, good to see Swedish Andy fought back and conquered, that's where i'm off to next, happy trails.
Major bromance 😊
😂😂 yeah, you know!
Your channel & Andy's are my fav outdoor channels so far. 'It's not about the journey, it's about the companion'.. 😍 u guys..
Great videos. I really enjoyed them. Great chemistry with you and Andy. You can really see yours and Andy's passion for bush crafting in these videos. I look forward to the next one
Stora Le is a fantastic wild (and large) lake in the west of Sweden. My mother spent many summers with her parents there as a child. Then my parents took me an my brother and sisters there when we grew up. Good fishing. It's been a while since I was there but these videos has inspired me to reconnect to these waters.
I need some of that squeezy blue cheese now
Love seeing a couple blokes who know how to actually paddle a canoe!!! I'm no "snob", but I've paddled around enough sawgrass, alligators, and cat tails to know how to orchestrate a "J" stroke. Looked like an epic and enjoyable adventure....sorry that Andy fell ill, but glad he got back on his "fins" again!!
Cheers Dan! 👍🛶
Thank you for sharing your journey in Sweden . 🙂
Really enjoyed that... did that trip back in 2005 and loved it... these vids brought back many memories and a nudge to go back next year.
Pure class video Simon!
Memories for life and a buddy forever! Bloody brilliant! Thanks for sharing mate. Take care, Steve. 👍👍
Thanks mate!👍😁
Thanks guys very entertaining 😀 👍🏻
Good Lord man. Now the shops are out of O'boy again..! They hardly managed to recuperate from last times shopping spree!! 🤣
If you wanna see beavers you gave to travel a bit further north Im afraid.
Nice series of videos Simon.👍
😂😂😂
Thanks mate! 👍
Savage headwind! The shot of you setting off with a following wind had you travelling off at about 10mph......got me thinking.....some bugger has to paddle back to collect that camera😜🙄❗️
That’s the story of my life!! 😂😂😂
"Swedish Andy" 🤣🤣🤣
Great adventure, guys. Thanks for taking us along for a final installment. I look forward to seeing more from both of you back in dreary, old England soon.
Good thing you didn't need to dress any gunshot wounds. Fun trip! Cool with the different weather. Good timing to avoid the mosquitoes.
Mountain House and Bushcraft Box Wine is all a couple of lads need 👍😎
😂😂👍
What a awesome trip. Amazing, thanks for sharing. One day....
Liking the look of that hammock set up 🧐
Thanks for sharing your adventure Simon I've loved every minute of it great stuff atvb jimmy 😎 😎
The start was like a Pink Floyd track/video ! Awesome
Not sure how someone can give a thumb down, maybe jealous they weren't there? Another great video, thanks for all your effort producing it. I don't know how you make the time.
Thank you! 👍😁
There is nothing wrong with a lie-in! Too many people base their outdoor pursuits on their watch, and the calendar; you're out there to enjoy it! Good on you! I will be sending you the book this week Simon!
Thanks mate! Let me know about that ORP. 👍
Great video Simon 👍. Pitty the weather there was arse. Bacon and pancakes , is all ways good. To lift the soul 😀😋😝
It is a good idea to take few condoms on the trip. Not only for their general purpose, but they are good to carry fluids in case of what, as a strap in some cases and also very good to make bandages waterproof if traveling on water.
A truly delightful adventure. Thank you for sharing Simon 👍
Lovely landscape.
Thanks to you, us yanks at my house now say bits and bobs 😂😂😂. I don’t know why you don’t have a million followers. Great content Simon, down to earth and very believable. Don’t change brother.
Thank you! 😁👍
Thanks for the Sweden-videoes, brings back a lot of memories. I've spend several weeks paddling in that area, but mostly later in the year and no snow so far. Stora Le is a nice lake, but it's one of the larger (if not the largest) in the area and you get more wind and waves compared to many of the smaller lakes. Renting canoes in Ed you don't have much choice without access to a car, but I've tried to keep to the smaller ones as much as possible. Many are connected and you can paddle for a week or more with only a few and fairly short portages.
Simon you probably know this but I also use toe warmers in my boots for cold feet. You can put one on the bottom and one on the top and they work well. I find if my feet are cold my body is cold lol old age as well my friend!! Love all you do and show on the videos!!
Good tip - I’m a big fan of those hand warmers - use them at work during the cold winter months when working outside - they stop working if they get wet though!
yep I use them when hunting in the winter without which I probably wouldn't lol
You've replaced the gap for me that MCQ Bushcraft created... Happy days dear Simon.
Thank you. 👍🙂
Definitely enjoy watching your videos, thanks
Glad Andy came good. Just saying to each other, what an adventure. Back in the day the cinematography needed would involve a heap of cameras, film and people. Now experts like yourselves can give us, the spectators, a really involved view into your adventure. It makes me remember bush walks of the past. ehem .. distant past .. and think about just how good it is to get out in the big, wild outdoors. Now, where is my tent ?
Thank you Simon and Andy for your video's Adventures of Sweden Brilliant
I’m surprised you guys didn’t fish from the canoes using a drag line and spoons for trout? Trout makes a great supper!
Loved the understated, spot-on comment about the hail "The hail's stopped. Although, they'll probably be more." LOL
And ... PS ... you need to put a tourniquet in that aid kit. With using an axe and saw, you could have a serious cut by accident. Get yourself a SWAT-T (www.amazon.co.uk/SWAT-T-Tourniquet-Orange/dp/B00MYG9YA0). Also, get yourself some Leukotape for blisters etc. (www.amazon.co.uk/BSN-Medical-BEI076168-Leukotape-Sports/dp/B000E59HXC/ )
Thanks Kimberly! The hail was like a loyal dog - always close on our heels!
Good advise with the tourniquet - although a cut through the femoral artery out there and it’s game over - tourniquet or not. 😬 Good to have one though!!! 👍 Loved the chilli Mac by the way - and the breakfast hash - really good chunky meals - actually looked like what they are, our dehydrated meals all look the same - mush!! 😂😂😂
Sorry it has been a while Simon but I am still here. I do not want to spoil your trip but just a thought for you when the weather gets really nasty. To add to everything that has gone bad for me I am now told that I also have "atrial fibrillation" and I am waiting to see how they are going to deal with this one. No matter, I am too mean to terminate early so I am still here for a while. Take care guys.
Your friend Rach
Hi Rach! So sorry to hear that - not fair to have that to deal with alongside everything else!! As you know I suffered with AF for years (many of those years, oblivious as to what it was!!) I was finally put forward for an ablation - best thing ever - worked first time (doesn’t for everyone) and I’m completely cured - discharged from the Cardio department and taken off all my meds - really hope they might be able to do the same for you! 🤞 keep going strong mate! 🙂
Thanks for sharing your great adventure!
I love all the videos
Epic adventure guys.
Great post Lads, all the best.
Another wow video. Thank you for sharing
Thanks for taking the time and effort to make these Videos, they are brilliant.
the words on the bacon packet mean "Your dinner, my future".
Ah thank you! I like that we contributed towards Swedish Andy’s future!! 😂
I noticed that, is he referring to the digestion products of the consumer?
Fantastic video to finish off (what looked like) a fantastic trip! Thanks for sharing mate
A fitting finale and nice to think that it lived up to your expectations 👍
It was fantastic Stu - not sure I did it justice as Dave’s book did, but we had a lot of fun!
Great series..loved it all.(except for poor Andys' illness) . Variety is good and it looks like you had a wonderful time, Thanks for taking us along
Fantastic series. I really hoped you would have discussed your camera gear. Cheers from Ontario, Canada!
