Sweden Part 4. Stormy Wild Weather and our Final Wild Camp.

  • In this video series, Andy (Kent Survival) and I head off to the Swedish Wilderness for a five day canoeing and bushcraft adventure inspired by Dave Bliss’ book ‘Paddles and Polar Bread’. Paddling along the massive lake Stora Le, we experience all the weather Sweden can throw at us, from glorious sunshine, to snow and strong winds whipping the lake up into a raging turmoil of waves and spray. We take all our equipment and food with us in our aluminium Linder canoes and camp in Dano huts or wild camp along the way.
    This video is episode four, the final instalment - after setting off for our final camp spot across the lake, we hit the first of our weather for the day - hail! We arrive cold and wet at the designated spot, only to find it lacking for our our needs. A decision is made to get back on the water and head for a wild camp spot. Strong winds and choppy waves are then the order of the day and we get to our final camp exhausted.We spend our last evening on the lake, enjoying some much needed food until a snow storm forces us to retreat to our shelters. Our canoe adventure has been epic - an amazing experience full of varied weather and great times! We will be back, that I'm sure of!
    I hope you enjoy the video.
    Thanks for watching!

      There are still some small secret hidden colonies of vikings living up on the islands up in those large scottish lochs!! Its most disconcerting to be enjoying the paddle up a nice long scottish loch until you spot longboat sails unfurling behinds you and dragonhead prows closing in on your position from all sides?
      Its no good trying to explain your reasons for being on their loch when you got a viking sword up yer left nostril? And rest of the scottish vikings are ransacking through both of yer canoes & taking away all of your eqpt?
      Being filmed stranded in a pair of y fronts on a scottish island may make good survival tv but it isnt a joke? For those who have been left on the island as longboats sail off with all of yer equipment & you 2 have got nosebleeds from having a viking sword tip rammed up yer noses?
      Cuz you both failed due to giggling to understands the ancient norwegian dialects
      The 1st time!?

In the fall you should be there with all the colours of the trees and the water is warm and you know you can paddle for weeks in the system and see the real beauty of the area. Hope to see you again in the area But after taking the advise and give a true picture of the beauty that it Hilda. Respectfully Mike 🇸🇪

    Simon, I carry in my first aid pack Tampons kotex and super glue uses for deep wounds and burns.

    When I was able to I be headed for the peace and Serinity of the woods and water.

      @billyaitken1713 4 роки тому

      James Carryl - I used to be a first aider in a meat works. If you get a knife cut in awkward spots like the skin on the edge of a nail bed then super glue is priceless for when you have to get on with life, rather than sit around feeling sorry about your boo-boo. 3M steri-strips ( paper stitches) are really good for knife slices & cuts once you stem the bleed (compression & elevation mainly) & clean the site up. Where superglue beats Steri-strips is that you have to keep steri-strips & the skin below them dry, otherwise they'll peel off- superglue stays good until you immerse the area in water for a long time.

    Stora Le is a fantastic wild (and large) lake in the west of Sweden. My mother spent many summers with her parents there as a child. Then my parents took me an my brother and sisters there when we grew up. Good fishing. It's been a while since I was there but these videos has inspired me to reconnect to these waters.

    Thanks for the Sweden-videoes, brings back a lot of memories. I've spend several weeks paddling in that area, but mostly later in the year and no snow so far. Stora Le is a nice lake, but it's one of the larger (if not the largest) in the area and you get more wind and waves compared to many of the smaller lakes. Renting canoes in Ed you don't have much choice without access to a car, but I've tried to keep to the smaller ones as much as possible. Many are connected and you can paddle for a week or more with only a few and fairly short portages.

Also, get yourself some Leukotape for blisters etc. (www.amazon.co.uk/BSN-Medical-BEI076168-Leukotape-Sports/dp/B000E59HXC/ )
