7 Day Scandinavian Wilderness Canoe Trip. Part 1 - Rogen Naturreservat, Sweden.

- In this video, Andy (Kent Survival) and I begin our seven day canoe trip in the wilderness of Sweden and Norway.
We set off from Käringsjön in the Rogen Naturreservat in Sweden and head into the labyrinth of small lakes that makes up the northern part of this region, taking with us everything we need for the next week.
Our journey takes us from lake to lake, carrying our boats and gear overland as we explore this stunning natural wilderness area.
Finally we stop at a suitable camp spot next to one of the larger lakes and set up our camp for the night. A well earned dinner of steak and potatoes, washed down with a couple of very good Norwegian beers, enjoyed to the soundtrack of Loons calling in the distance and we are ready for for our hammocks - a good rest before tomorrows adventure into the unknown.
What a deliciously immersive first day.
Thank you Peter for all you have done to bring this expedition together, without you, this simply could not have happened!
I hope you enjoy the video,
Thanks for watching.

Your filming and editing is so seamless, Simon, I can't imagine how much work you do that we don't even notice. It is just incredible. Thank you so much for all your efforts. You give so many of us the chance to adventure with you. Your work is not a wasted effort. Thanks from Washington State, USA. ;)
Hi, I’ve just returned from that spot a month ago. I stayed at Käringsjön. It is not my first visit to this quiet and wild place. I’ve been visiting since 1996. I like your videos because you are honest, and you managed to keep the (ridiculous) music at a minimum in your video. The tranquillity of the place is one of its great virtues. And yes, we do eat Polar bread and we do drink the water unfiltered from the lakes. And catch a fish or two.
Regards
Thomas
Very nice video indeed! Truly inspirational!
We're very fortunate here in Scandinavia where we have so much wild nature and the freedom to roam it. It's called "allemansrätten" here in Sweden. This freedom comes with responsibility also and when you talked about the rubbish and old cans you found in the fire pit it's a stark reminder that the responsibility is not always honored. You've shown in all your videos the importance of leaving a campsite the way you would like to find it and in the case of wild camping - restoring the site so basically no signs of you left. That is the essence of allemansrätten.
Is it my imagination, or do canoe based episodes really just not get the attention and love they so richly deserve? I'm always super happy to see lovely people like Simon and Andy in boats. Looks absolutely AMAZING out there guys! I hope you have the best time and I'm so stoked you took us lot with you!
Do you watch Lost Lakes channel? He does a lot of canoe trips up in Canada and his videos are top shelf. 👍
Watched them all. Bloody good.... Same message to Andy.👌
WOW!!! What A beautiful video of my two most favorite “BLOKES IN THE WOODS” SIMON AND ANDY! Thank you for bringing us along for an unforgettable camping trip!👍🇺🇸🙏GREETINGS FROM TENNESSEE 👋👍
Great vid, beautiful place no mosquitos, yet.
Beautiful job, Simon. I love watching you and Andy together. Trip of a lifetime for sure.
Keep the videos coming out mate 👍
Since i had the brain bleed and surgery Rehab back in April and June of 2021 Surgery and complications more rehab You Two Guys have helped me keeping alot of good company and travel 🏕 I appreciate these vids as We are 66 yrs of age and still doing OK now, thanks for what You do , I think has improved me mentally on so many levels , doing house chores cooking errands and a little yard work helps too mainly my Family including the Dogs , now just one dog and a new Kitty named Bootsie , And First and Foremost without God i would not even be here so thankful for everything every day .
Safe Travels God Bless Always 🙌 !
I love this series! I never heard of the foldable canoe before! So cool!
Love the video and long overdue Simon, as an inflatable canoer I'm watch your canoe with added interest 👍
I just realized. One of the main reasons I like your videos is the fact that I have never ever had a cringe moment. It appears to me that such content is rare on UA-cam these days, easpecially when it comes to outdoor/camping/bushcraft topics.
Love the Red Duster! Reminds me of my days in the Navy😊
Being so close to nature like that must be awesome
Very informative. Will doing a rowing trip this summer in sweden with my two sons.
Spectacular terrain.
Lovely stuff Simon 👍🍻…great to see the Loon (Black Throated Diver) adding to the atmosphere 🍻
It's not room temperature when outside, but ambient temperature. Lovely video, amazing adventure!
Stakes as a camping dinner, yum :)
Welcome home to rainy Norfolk. Glad you're back as I've been looking forward to watching another epic video series. Looking forward to further parts coming soon I hope... Keep up the good work Simon. I should also note that becasue of your videos I'm now out and about on the Broads and it's so so good for my mental health. So thanks you mate, I've found a real passion!
I hope it's not raining around the 26 th Sept I'm coming to Norfolk for a four day break .
Thanks Jon! Glad to have been an inspiration! 😁🛶
Carbon nuggets - are great . 🤣👍 beautiful places, thank you for video.
Much love sent on this day from the US, to all of our brothers and sisters in the UK.
😔 thank you ❤
I started off seeing part 2. That is amazing beauty there!!! And you guys are so strong. I would love to have gone with you. Oh well, 70 years of age now, so I guess it will be watching you doing what I do in my mind! on my estate I can do woodburning and cooking. So, in my own way, I do the outdoors!!
Sat myself down in a comfy chair with a glass of Ale and my dinner, and enjoyed every second. Thanks for sharing mate.
ATB Pete
P.S. Nice to see the old LK frame getting pressed into service, I use mine for allsorts!!
I haven't has TV in the house for many years, I just didn't want to pay for substandard content. Yours and Andys videos are a large part of my entertainment. I feel like I'm settling in for a very awesome mini series. Thank you both for excellent content that keeps us all coming back for more.
Nicely done, sir. God save the King.🇬🇧
Flying the Red Ensign, nice touch!
Incredible video simon thankyou so much for all your hard work .great video .realy enjoyed andys also ..
Thank you , Simon .
🐺 Loupis Canis .
Wonderful first day. Brings back memories of canoe trips in Algonquin. I could almost smell the composting toilet. Feel the cold water alongside the canoe, along the shore. The setting Sun and the evening chill.
Amazing video 38 minutes felt like 38 seconds, it was that good of an adventure! I was so enjoying this that it felt that way!
Awesome. These trips with you guys are like a top gear christmas special. Love it
Really enjoyed the video looking forward to the rest
I liked best the views in the evening-time over the calm lake, plus the chat around the 'lantern light.'
i like that British army kit, great square pan, very usable. Great vid as always Simon, so splendid trip! I especially liked when you filmed sunset with you both sitting near lamps - stunning filming!
Fantastic videos and a brilliant location. Look forward to part 2
So glad you got to paddle the Ally canoe. I own one and have taken it on many expeds in Europe. I also live in a flat in Berlin so there isn’t much storage space for a wooden or plastic canoe, so the Ally is perfect for me. I find it handles well, really stable, can take a huge load and really transportable on a train or bike trailer. I’ve managed to get my construction time down to 15 minutes. First time was much longer. Would love to see a full review of the Ally canoe some time. I’m looking forward to part two on your Norway leg. I have spent many days ski touring the Norwegian national parks and your trip is inspiring me to plan something again but this time travelling on the water. Thanks again for the video. Fantastic!
Thanks Simon, realy enjoyed the video.
Amazing! Very jealous of this trip!
Loved so much your British way of cooking. Subscribed. Looking for the next one 🥂👍🏻
I am so sorry for the loss of your monarch.... Know that the whole world is praying for your country at this point.....
With all the rubbish going on in the world this has reminded me that this is what life should be like. What a stunning location. Thanks for sharing your trip. I didn’t know but Sweden has a population of brown bears. Fantastic viewing 😊👍😊
We're a button push away from returning to a very basic way of life.
Since i moved to Norfolk, England many have asked me what I miss the most from Sweden.
Nature is always my first answer, not sure many understand what sort of nature but I'm glad you got to experience it.
All the best
Per
I love the music you pick!
Thank you Simon for a wonderful video and all your time. I recognize the person with you Andy I watch Kent Survival all the time I just watched one of your videos from 7 months ago when you're out on the Norfolk Coast path. I just left the comment there but I don't know if you will
Ah, yes! Been waiting for you and Andy to upload! Those canoes are crazy, fold up canoes???? But obviously do a good job!!! Great so far and looking forward to more soon!!! Cheers Simon!
Very beautiful country!
Thanks for sharing.
Looks like a great trip.
Enjoy guys
That’s the Red Duster - the Merchant Navy Ensign - and it’s meant to be on the stern so it all worked out well :)
Was waiting for this Scandinavian adventures Simon. Yeah, there is always a chance of getting company at those beautiful camping spots. Defeated by the Dutch on the first day? In 1666 it took us four days, now only one. No, just kidding. Very noble of you to leave the shelter to others. But you were rewarded by a beautiful alternative spot providing a view over a mirror. Wow, I love that serenity. Anyway, a nice start of you trip. Looking forward to day two, three, four, five, six and seven. Atb fm NL.
😂😂😂
Thanks mate!
I’m glad we continued on too -it was a great spot in the end 😁
@@simonablokeinthewoods hello fella, is there any chance we could have a chat regarding a fundraiser I'm planning for next year to help start a charity that aims to get kids free gym membership or trail kits to help keep them off the streets and the Internet.
It is in memory of Archie Battersbee ( please google his story).
I'm hoping to get a big collaboration on.
Please find me on Facebook if you are interested in finding out more. Thank you x
Great video Simon looks an amazing place atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Another great day on the water. Thank you both for sharing this day.
Your background music is amazing. Good job!
I thought you’d cooked some mushrooms then realised it was the potatoes, a touch well done.
Those guys being at the hut were an inconvenience that turned into a great improvement to what you would have shot. Seeing you adapt and change plans, and having all the kit necessary to do it made for a much more interesting video. Looking forward to the next instalment!
Excellent, been looking forward to this!
Best camp with a portable electric bear fence. At. 2.4 lbs, it’s small kit that brings huge peace of mind.
Watched andys last night (only because he posted slightly earlier) then yours tonight- my other half said I’m nuts!! 😆 Great work and thanks for taking the effort bringing us all along. All the best mate 👍🙏❤️
Thank you for sharing your 'tour' with us! Very nice video!
With best regards from the lowtide river rhine!
PS: I'd also like to recommend you the channel of 'Kababoes', a dutch colleague of us, who also does canoeing in Scandinavia and makes also very nice videos of his 'adventures'.
Beautiful video, Simon! Thanks so much for sharing - looking forward to Part 2... cheers from Canada!
Brilliant absolutely amazing scenery must cast next video to TV shame about the fire thanks for sharing
Stupendous !!!!!
Great adventures, thanks.
Absolutely Fantastic video Simon & Andy . You two should come to Canada 🇨🇦, half a million of lakes and rivers too explore 😀. Also a lot of beautiful vista's, & abundant wildlife, that is what sold me . To move here from England 28 years ago, so much untouched wilderness.
Andy is certainly coming along with his J stroke. Beautiful vistas and awesome photography
Been waiting for this! Cool to see the Ally canoes! Becoming ever more laden with Norwegian gear, you two!
(Almost) All the good gear comes from Scandinavia! 😁🇸🇪🇳🇴
Yay! I’ve been looking forward to these videos. 😊 Such gorgeous scenery!
thank you from australia
well done Simon, the beautiful scenery is just stunning..really enjoyed watching this
Really enjoyed that
Absolutely Awesome video Simon. Loved it. Somewhere I've never had the pleasure of visiting. Such a stunning place. 👍
Great video Simon. The views look fantastic, especially the late evening shots over the water. Eerily beautiful. I've been looking forward to your Sweden trip. Roll on part 2!
Always a pleasure to visit the channel. A breath of fresh air in the digital realm. You wouldn't happen to have a gear list laying around would you?
I would love to see it as well and compare it to ours.
Stunning* :-) Thank you so much for sharing*
Great video as usual Simon! Those canoes reminds me of my Wildo folding cup...
Great video. Looking forward to watching the rest of your trip. And thanks for getting me into IPA's lol.
Carbon nuggets hahahahaha!!!! cant wait for part 2!!!!!!! :)
Simon and Andy, you make it all look nice and enjoyable. I am glad you work well as a team. The video was great. Thanks for keeping it real and keeping us in the know. I look forward to the rest of your journey. Rich Blessings
Great adventure!
Being dying for this video to drop, and it didn’t disappoint. Absolutely brilliant Simon, well worth the wait. And that scenery, just wow. Just have to wait again now for part 2 😀
Superb, never thought we would get another Stora Le type adventure, absolutely inspiring for Swedish canoe wild camps
Great video loved the scenery very peaceful looking forward to your next video
That looks awesome, wow what a place. Many thanks to yourself and Andy for taking us a long and showing.
Made this 100 km trip in 92 and 16. But we had 2 weeks..One week would have been "stressfull"..But we were 2x240 pounds guys with a lot of supplies..And a very small canoe. With a freeboard of 10 cm and low water levels. I think we carried the canoe as many km as we padeled it.. Anyways both trips were some of the most awesome experiences one can have.
Blissful - your videos match perfectly with a glass of wine after a long days work
The ensign flies from the stern. It's called the "jack" when flown from the bow. Some might argue. :) Since a canoe has 2 pointy ends, call it what you like.
Oops!! Haha, I did eventually correct that 😁
Absolutely gorgeous! Though I must say say it looks a bit like northern Minnesota. Next trip you should plan is to our Boundary Waters.
When Simon said land of a thousand lakes, it also had me thinking of northern Minnesota. (Disclaimer: I am neither American nor Scandinavian, so have no dog in this fight.)
I've never been in Minnesota (or in the US) but a lot of the Swedish migrants back in the late 1800s went to Minnesota because the nature and climate is similar to Swedish climates (Southern Sweden that is).
Awesome, Simon a bloke in the skog! What an amazing looking trip.
I am hoarding this until I can watch it in peace and quiet tomorrow! Otherwise I will have to keep restarting it and that always aggravates me!
Awesome
Superb!
Looks so much like Northern Ontario, Canada where I've one most of my canoeing and camping.
Ey up me owd. Don't know why I've not been getting notified but anyroad, just watched this one and thoroughly enjoyed it 👍🤙
Fabulous first vid Simon. What a stunning area so far. Great canoes also, I can imagine they are very lightweight, perfect for a few portage that lie ahead.
Good call to move on from camp 1 to keep it as remote as possible for you both. Here's to part 2 tomorrow mate 👍
Magnificent! You capture the Swedish wilderness beautifully Simon! Looks like you had a great start. Looking forward to seeing the rest with some white water canoeing!
Two mate’s enjoying the wilderness..thanks lads 👍👍
What a wonderful trip Simon😊
Always love seeing another part of this beautiful world! Very similar to here in New England. Great film making as usual Simon. Best wishes my friend. Looking forward to the next one.
This area of Sweden looks like the Pine Barrens in NJ, except the barrens have more underbrush and no big rocks.
Amazing. This could win an Oscar. Can't wait to see the rest. Wish I was with you.
