Bugaboos - Pigeon Spire West Ridge

- Hiked on July 30th. B-S Col was still in, but the top was melting fast. Easy snow travel to the base of Pigeon with very obvious crevasses to avoid. Up to the base of Pigeon there were no crevasses, and no snow on the route.
No rappels, except for the B-S Col. Drove up the morning of the 29th at 5AM, got to the parking lot at 5PM. Took 3 hours to reach Applebee camp from the lot. Woke up around 3AM, started hiking around 4:30-5AM. Was back at camp around 2PM but was going fairly slow. Back down to the parking lot at 5PM and drove back to Vancouver. Fun few days!
FYI, BC Parks has removed the free chicken wire to wrap your vehicle that they used to keep at the parking lot. Make sure to bring some of your own!
Love you edits. Thank you for making these.
Thank you for watching!
Just binged the latest set of videos since I didn't get a notification for them. I got a kick out of the blooper and the toilet post-credit -- I had no idea those were even a thing.
I hope your channel takes off and gets the attention it deserves for all the work you put into it.
This is just amazing!!! The time and effort to set up the camera and hike back 'n forth is just so appreciable. We were in bugaboos July 22-23 weekend. It is an amazing place to be. We stayed at Applebee but now regretting not hiking further. Anyway bro, keep up the good work. Hopefully, see you on trails someday.
Applebee is where the fun begins. Hope you had a good trip!
Just came back home and glad to see your new video..... it's been a while...but here we go :-)
Glad to hear it!
Ive been binging climbing videos. Very beautiful wherever you are. Even through video the steepness creeps me out lol. Good luck to you in your future exploring. Thanks for sharing some of your climb with us. 🤙
Incredible cinematography!
Awesome video Brandon. crossed paths with you when you were on the way up for this trip. It was my first time up there and you showcased it beautifully. Cheers man, keep it up, really enjoyed this!
Thank you! Hopefully see you out there again someday
Always great videos from you, love seeing videos from my area.
That's a great film of your adventure Brandon. I really love the intro and all the shots of the incredibly beautiful scenery. So looking forward to your next adventure. Happy trails, Mario
Thanks! I’ll have a video of the HSCT out soon
Getting' it! Nice one!
Thanks! Some really fun scrambling on this one
Wow I was just there need to go back to scramble and explore more!
Definitely worth exploring more of the area!
Nicely done, it's a good thing you didn't leave your climbing shoes in the car, they could have been eaten by the porcupines. Nicely protected though on the back of your pack.
😂
We passed you while you were filming this haha small world. Pigeon really is the best 5.4!
Dude, that's insane.
best indie filmaker ive seen
Love the videos and congrats on the summit! Truly spectacular scenery as well - it’s otherworldly. Too scared of heights to ever attempt the bugaboos but love seeing what it was like! Would love to see a panorama view from the top next time but recognize that may not be your style:) keep up the good work!
Thanks! I'll lug up the slider to the summit next time to get a moving shot for the next one
Love it! Thanks again! Great stuff!
@@ballybosston I got the panorama shot you were asking for on Sir Donald!
Great running into you on the way up!
Hey, likewise! Hope you get it next year, maybe with some Nuun tablets next time for hydration!
Ur gonna blow up, at least a little bit. Be safe, have fun, but trust yourself! Don’t push it for the viewers, only push what you are comfortable with! Take care, love the content
Thanks for the kind words!
@@BCHiking love you man. Keep doing you
if you have a million dollars you cannot get that view while dropping a dime. you finished the job right at the peak what a scene.
Great work!! What camera do you use?
Thanks! I used a Blackmagic pocket 4k with the Lumix 8-18mm.
Really cool to see someone solo low 5th class stuff like this, super interesting. I have done many of the routes you've uploaded so far (all the more technical ones except sky pilot and West Lion), but the Pigeon spire has me a bit shook. I'm curious of how difficult the 5.4 crux felt to you, and if it can be easily protected on a lead (I have not lead anything 5 class).
Thanks Joel! I found it all quite easy, but downclimbing at 6:45 was a bit more challenging. Not difficult but it took some time to find the right hand/footjams in the corner. The hand traverse at 7:30 was easier to climb up and downclimb with good but slabby feet, albeit even more exposed. You could easily chuck a #3 cam in the first bit, then maybe a .75-1 in the hand traverse part, but it would be a slightly fiddly horizontal placement. If I was with someone who wasn't as comfortable I would have rappelled off the top, where two rappels get you to the base of the 5.4. The most technical part of the day for me was honestly the B-S Col to get up to the climb, but I'm pretty new to steep snow.
This is nuts man I’d never go up there without a rope! Your insane great filming and editing!
Amazing! Let’s go climb together! Come to Squamish
Yo congrats, been meaning to do a trip there we should head up next season
Shoot me a message sometime next year!
Good stuff man! Do you have any climbing background to be more confident on the scrambles or just acquired by experience over the years?
I've been climbing for around 6 years! It definitely helps for being comfortable on scrambles
Out of curiosity do you primarily hike solo? Awesome video as usual man.
I'll be uploading a video soon where I'm not alone! I'd say less than half the hiking I do is solo
Why and what are there two pairs of shoes you used for this hike?
I brought my TC pro’s (climbing shoes) but I didn’t end up using them since the climbing was so easy. I just did everything in my approach shoes (Arcteryx Acrux FL GTX)
I love your videos !!! How do you do those shots where the camera rotates as you are walking by?
I carried a motion controlled slider with me on this hike, and I can trigger the sliding/panning movement with my phone as I walk by. Pretty heavy but the few shots I used them for I thought looked great. It was the IFootage Shark Slider Nano
@@BCHiking those shots did look great!
