Climbing the North East Ridge of Bugaboo Spire // Bugaboo Provincial Park

- We finally made it to the Bugaboos after just missing the 2021 season during van-life. We chose Pigeon Spire as our introduction to the area - a Bugaboo classic. We were treated with views of towering spires, vast glaciers, fun exposure and sticky granite. After hearing there were 17 parties lined up the day before, we were shocked to be one of two total parties, leading the way for the sunny day.
NE Ridge of Bugaboo Spire: After an alpine start, we hiked our way across a frozen lake and up the snow to a very loose “4th” class approach. We enjoyed 11 pitches of incredible climbing with splitter cracks galore and unbelievable views. We celebrated on the summit with a quick high five knowing we had to start traversing the ridge for a long descent. The ridge traverse involved constantly switching between down climbing, simul climbing and rappelling to then make the longer scramble down the Kain route. By the time we were done, we were descending the Bugaboo Snowpatch Col in the dark and ready for some food and sleep.
Jordan and I also topped out on The Central Crescent Spire via Lions Way and made a quick scramble up East Post Spire.
1:42 - Yehp, that's an exciting view. Know it well. Makes me nostalgic.
Well done to smash so many routes in one trip! Planning my next objective and it looks like there's tons of great options in the Bugs.
Thanks! You will not be dissapointed!
Great video of the Bug's, It was on my list to climb when I lived in Wa. I'm old now and never made the trip. I was always concerned about my car surviving the porcupines LOL. Great job!!!
Lol, I was definitely over-worried about my car...especially since we drove 20 hours from Denver. Thanks for watching!
Great video and trip report. Thanks for the time putting that together!
Thank you!
Wow, thanks for letting me experience this with you from the UK. Great trip!
Thank you for sharing ❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
You had great weather and no crowds? That is the opposite of what most people find in the Bugs. You lucked out HUGE!
We were shocked - definitely lucked out!!
Like the camera shot out of the "famous window". One of the best views while "sitting" ;-). Good Job those are some long routes up there.
😂😂 best views ever. Thanks!!
Thanks for taking a camera up there. I always wanted to go to the bugs but it was too far away. Nice to see what it looks like up close.
This was thoroughly enjoyable to watch, I really want to go now!
Brought back great memories of my trip there.. nice video! I also was cought off guard by how long it would take to get off of bugaboo spire! climbing down the col in the dark is scary!
Thank you! We felt better when other parties that said it took them equally as long lol. That col in the dark is definitely a bit more intimidating...
That was awesome, thanks for posting!!! And welcome to Canada, I hope you guys come back one day!
Thank you!! Already planning to come back for an ice climbing trip :)
Climber from Spain. Great video, so authentic, without social media show off. Also amazing looking routes. You have a new follower. ;)
Thank you :)
"The Bugaboos An Alpine History" by J.F Gardens has been one of my favorite books (published in 1987). It captured my imagination just as your video did. I never did go on that trip planned in 96' and often wondered what it looked like for my friend who took my place. Thanks for being my eyes for my first trip to the Bugs; I'm sure it won't be my last. cheers
Once again, inspiring bucket list destinations! You guys rocked it!
Thanks Sean!
nice video! feels like yesterday I was up there, your footage is amazing
Thanks so much!
Looks amazing! A few questions: what resources did you look at while planning this? And also are there rappel rings at the top of the pitches there?
We used Mountain Project and referenced Steph Abegg’s blog posts. Only rappel rings starting at the South summit if I remember right.
Hi! My friend and I booked a trip there in March to climb Bugaboo Spire however I have done research and found nothing on any winter ascents of it. Do you know if it is even possible to access in that time of year? Please let me know if you have any other helpful information! Thank you and great video!
Randomly came across your video. So beautiful. I know I'll be back out soon. And the 2 of you remind me of myself and the girl I should have married long ago. Really sweet. All of it.
Such a sweet comment, thanks!
Great video! Looks like beautiful climbing :)
Thank you!
What a stunning climb! Very inspiring :)
Thank you!
Amazing place! Would love to get there some day....
You definitely should!
A must visit place for sure! Well Done!!
Definitely! Thank you!
Incredible! I was the custodian at the Kain Hut many years ago!
What a beautiful place to work!
@@kristenbowling2147 Every day seemed so surreal. It was amazing. I did quite a few years at Kokanee Glacier also, but it wasn't quite the same magical feel. But still pretty great : )
Awesome video! I really like the longer format. I must get up to the Bugs at some point!
Thank you! Definitely get up there!
Soo sick. Looks amazing, thanks for posting
Thanks Alden, appreciate it!!
Loved this! I hike every once in a while, just out in Death Valley the other day. But what you all are doing here is intense...I'd be scared to death. Looked like fun, though!
I love Death Valley! Any day getting out - whether it's hiking or climbing is a great one in my book.
ya'll are seriously the coolest
Awesome video! Great job. Subbed.
Thank you!!
What time of year did you guys end up doing this in?!
We went the last week of July! We called some local mountain guiding companies to see what the condition of the col was like, to make sure it wasn’t too melted out!
Great video, love the pace and editing. Nice job, love local hiking, climbing and camping channels.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
nice. what length and diameter of rope have you use for that adventure . ??
Thanks! We had a single 70m, 9.7mm I believe
@@kristenbowling2147 nice thank you 🙂
All I see are a bunch of sends 🔥
🎉🎉🎉
dreamy day out !!
Did you guys have to rope up for eastpost spire?
We didn’t! It was a quick 4th class scramble and mayyyybe one low fifth class move at the top.

Glad to hear it, thanks! Have fun!
Being a Ukrainian, I was surprised to see borshct in Canadian Rockies 😁And pleased, honestly. Really cool video, though. Looks like a cool adventure!
