Calm water is the same everywhere, rough water has levels and Hatteras is boss level when it's rough, even from the beach.

Nice video. Ramp 38 in Avon is good, 55 in Hatteras, and obviously 44 in Buxton....You got to see a lot of good spots. World Record drum mount at F&Fs in Avon.

Just got lucky 🤣. If you plan the wind right its flat. But normally the obx is pretty wild when it comes to waves and current. Honestly i like a lil chop to the water. Helps stir up those fleas.

The white trout we catch in Mobile are weakfish also, as the speckled trout are spotted weakfish

Wow! Back the truck up. Hatteras is bad Mojo - you just happened on to a flat surf trip. Been stationed on an amphibious ship out of Norfolk and I can tell you that the water there is rough stuff like no other on earth. I have sailed the Pacific, Atlantic and Artic Oceans - wonders I have seen! Cape Hatteras is not kind to the weak at heart - it can cut a rug.
If you're still in the area, there is a area off of highway 12 called bonner bridge pier, near on pea island you should try out
Next time you come to Eastern NC I would love to have you come visit Southern Outer Banks (SOBX). Crystal Coast

Not flat after you left bro. Pretty rough for the next 2-3 weeks. Just now getting back to normal. I echo what others have said about "Bull Drum" and "OBX" terminology. I dig your show dude. We were there right after you . Rough, tough fishing conditions. Picked up a few black drum and whitings.

Weakfish usually hold 4 to 6 feet off the bottom. At least for the bigger ones a long leader helps.

Enjoyed the video. I fish Jennettes Pier in Nags Head quite a bit which is about 45 minutes or so north of where you guys were. Next time you make it up this way let me know!
I grew up in NC and my dad and I would hit the OBX every fall to surf fish.
Carova was really calm when we went out there, thats where I proposed to my wife. We spent a LOT of time out on Pea Island that week, I think we saw 2 people out there over 4 days!. The surf was extremely rough every day, just due to the slope of the bank. Throw out some large mullet on a 6-8oz bottom rig and you can catch some massive reds.
Gotta love the OBX whiting are called sea mullet.

I am a NC native and like the less commercialized beaches as well. I was on business a few days down at Orange Beach, AL last year.

Been to the obx three times and it's been super rough every time. The one week I spent in Pensacola and Florabama it was super calm. You got lucky with your trip timing :p

You were fortunate to be on the OBX on so many calm days. I been there dozens of times, and never had more than a calm day or 2.
Love Avon stayed twice the first street north of pier! I would get up before everyone and head to the pier and fish for hours!
I caught weakfish on whole shrimp back in September in OIB maybe try that next time
Love these videos , I live in Alabama , I lived in north Carolina , from 1966 till 1979 , I fished all the places you fished , it brought back so many great memories
I was down there couple weeks ago, 6-8 foot waves, it was horrible conditions
I lived in Nags Head for many years. Used to work at the old Jeanettes pier while in College. Love to see you fishing in some areas I have been many times. You we fortunate to ha calm conditions. It happens but it is usually rougher than that. Wish you could have gotten a big Bluefish run. Something every fisherman should experience. My PB Blue was 17 lbs. Really enjoy all the groups videos.
I’ve used bass and steel head rods on piers for croaker, whiting and spot and such in NC it’s definitely doable
Glad you caught a gray trout as I call it...my son caught a 14" keeper on N. Topsail pier a few weeks ago.
I'm heading to the OBX next weekend if the weather allows...looks like it may be very windy.
If you have time and a pair of waders if it's too cold, park at the old coast guard station (35.76691434464333, -75.52502698805041) and walk the flats in the sound (35.76409850583548, -75.52305400221657). Fall fishing on the NC coast is awesome.

I have never seen water that calm at Avon. I was fishing for kings there once and about 300 yards off the end of the pier a giant spotted eagle ray was jumping over and over. Seriously that thing was as big as a sedan. Haven't been to OBX in a while, it's a special place with its own character. Perhaps it's almost time for a trip out there again.
Mate Sheepshead are up there with my fave eating fish.. We get loads in Tx so thats handy! I catch them on anything. Live shrimp and small crabs I find best.
We catch them in NYC AND MUCH BIGGER WE USE CLAMS BUNKER AND ENTIRE SAND WORM TO GET THEM THEY ARE DELICIOUS FISH BROTHER
A good substitute for cut ladyfish is cut mullet

I was stationed at Ft. Bragg NC and loved fishing the coast there, BUT I never got up to the Outter Banks for fishing.

Sheepshead require a special feel to set the hook , looks like your better half has that special feel .

OBX is my stomping grounds. I just moved to AL and wont see the NC coast much in the near future unfortunately. I was there 10/8-10/24. Would have been cool to meet you guys. Drum fishing the first week was much better north of where you stayed. The couple days of NE conditions the 10th-12th were epic on Avon pier from what I heard. After that the seas flattened out and blew west which is the worst wind for the beaches you were on. In the fall you want NE winds in the spring you want SW or SE depending how far down the coast you go. Glad you guys had fun visiting our NC coast. Its a beautiful area but unfortunately has turned into a tough place for fisherman over the last decade. Not what it used to be.

I’ve fished that pier so many times. Hatteras is really beautiful. Been going there every year since I was born. And trust me it usually is a lot rougher. Went deep sea outta hatteras inlet with 6 footers breaking on the boat.

The coast in oregon never gets that flat.
New species I thought may have been a Spot. Oct is the time they run. Been slow this year. Ounce for ounce not a harder fighting fish out there. Fine eating also for a panfish. I re-subscribed today.
