About once every ten years or so we get a run of those big Bluefish down here in the Gulf. I've had a deep sea trip go bust due to rough water and the captain took us in and we caught really giant Bluefish close in near the beach. Saved our trip! Only happens once in a Blue moon though.....not sure why they make the trip, but it's a blast when they do!
I used to catch 7 or 8 pound blues in Sarasota back in the early 90s. Especially in winter.

It's awesome out there. I hit the big blue blitz on Ocracoke in April and then again a couple days ago on my fall trip, so I know that feeling. I'm glad you had a good time in our neck of the woods, come back anytime!
When blues are running you can literally catch them on anything. We Rip blues in Nantucket every year till our arms can't pull anymore.

Learnt’ me something too with the weakfish catch. I always assumed they were just another name for white/sand trout- kind of like cobia/ling/lemon fish being all the same.
Seeing it though you could definitely see the difference. Neat catch!

Great stuff!!! There are a few schools of big Blues like that in the Destin Marina area often! You could Kayak and fish those inlet docks past Harbor walk and crush the blues with a live bait! A lot of interesting stuff to catch in that area!

Not bad, my pb blue is 42 inches got a citation for it, I released three more the same day over 36 inches, it was a hell of a day on OBX. So close to that hundred thousand Matt, keep em coming brother, tight lines and God bless 🙌.
Don’t know length, but I caught several that were over 18Lbs. back in the ‘70s.
Most fish fight harder, pound-for-pound, when they’re smaller than when they get big. Most fish, but not Bluefish! If anything, the big ones fight even harder!
@@FastEddy1959 you know what's weird, the 42 incher only weighed in at just over 12 pounds, the slightly smaller ones ranged from 12 to 16 lbs.

Nice Spanish. The Bluefish blitzes when I was a kid, and the Striper blitzes in the early aughts were some of the best VA/OBX ever outside drum on the point. Hopefully it'll cycle back if we can get rid of Omega
The Palmico is a world-class fishery in the fall and Hatteras Island has some great surf fishing around April for big bluefish if they don't stay offshore.

I lived in Nags Head in the 80's. I wish you could have seen the blue fish blitzes back then. I remember 8-10 lb blues beaching themselves around your feet while running bait fish up on the beach. Now I'm landlocked in TN...lol. Glad you are getting into some good fishing while you are there. Love your videos!

My dad talks about big blues chasing speckled trout so hard that the trout were beaching themselves. He says the fishing is still good on the OBX but nothing like it was in the 60's & 70's

Oh yea , I used ta vacation / fish Hatteras ( Outer Banks NC ) in the late 70s . Allways great fishing . There wern't as many people then . Tho it has remained a great sport fishing area . What braid do you use..only curious because it's white. I have white Berkeley 20 lb on one reel and not a fan of it compared to power pro..also love the obx stuff. I might be biased though.

2 times in the Carolina's I've seen the blues so thick in the surf that they bounce off your legs and you just dip you lure in the water to catch one but it's been probably 10 years since then
Welcome to the OBX! End of September/October always produces big blues and "Bull Reds" 😂 in that area. Caught my PB red (51") a couple years ago off of Ocracoke Island. Tight lines, Beach Bum!
