Thank you! We live outside of Philly, but try and go to the Outer Banks of North Carolina as much as possible! It's absolutely beautiful, but I'm still jealous of you and the countless amazing places you have to fish North of us!!!
Thanks Dana! This was the first time I’ve used lighter action poles in the surf and it made all the difference. I can’t wait to get a big bluefish or drum on one of these days! I’ve been going to the Outer Banks since I was a kid and it was definitely nice to get away for a little while.
Man they were so excited once they started to see all those sand fleas. I could see some too. Never caught any before and didn't know you could fish with that. Almost look like small beetles. Nice hook set up. Definitely effective.
Thanks for stopping over, Titus! Yes, I can see why you'd say they look like small beetles. Kind of creepy to have a couple dozen of them scurrying around in your hand, too! I've had the most luck catching whiting, pompano, red drum, and flounder with them. They DEFINITELY work and they're free!
I used to use sand fleas to catch whiting too when I lived in Jacksonville, Fl many years ago. That was a cute little red drum you caught. I guess it makes sense they'd eat the sand fleas too. I know they will eat crabs. I've seen people use them before.
Thanks for watching! I love Red Drum. You can catch cool little fun ones like this all the way up to those big massive bull reds. They eat a lot of different things, too. In fact, my PB red drum came on a little piece of cut bunker. Tight lines my friend!
Love the kids excitement when they get the fleas. Nice catches. Ocean fishing is pretty fun. I am surprised how few people are out there fishing based on how many people put out outter banks videos. 👍

Sand fleas definitely work but they aren't always that easy to find. Fresh shrimp is probably my favorite bait to use in the surf and one that I've had a ton of sucess with. It doesn't stay on the hook quite as good as sand fleas but it's relatively inexpensive, easy to use, and just about everything eats it.

I heard you say what material your leader was out of. But what is your rod length and reel size? Also looks like you had some braid on the reel? Thanks for watching! This was a 6'6" medium action rod (you do not need or necessarily want a really big surf fishing rod for this type of fishing), and I believe it was a 4000 series reel although something smaller would also be fine. The line was all braid except for the high/low rig that I just tied onto the braid with a snap swivel. Braid is helpful because it helps you get a better feel for what is going on. There is a lot of movement due to the waves and the current and braid will help you better tell the difference between natural movement and a fish. Good luck!
@@fatherandsonsfishing Thanks for the awesome advice!! I have a 6'6", 7', and 8' in case its heavy waves. I plan to have a local bait ship wind some braid on my reels. Now to make some high low rigs.. cheers! :)

Hello hello 👋
Catching the sand fleas is almost as fun as catching the fish. Did you find any softshell ones?
Totally agree, Adam! Yes, there were a few soft shells in the mix. Thanks for stopping by!
8:26 That’s not usually how it works lol
LMAO!!! Luckily, I have an understanding wife.😂

What size hooks are those?
Some were size 2 and some size 4
Hows the fish Nd surf in July?
Great! I can't remember if this was filmed at the end of July or early August, but this type of fishing works great in the summer months.
What time of year was this?
Early August
Using pretty light tackle for fishing the surf! Great video! Would love if you checked us out and subbed! Sand fleas are the best and tight lines
