Back in the day, I had a used car for sale for $1,000 and the guy wanted to beat me down to $500. About 5 minutes later a second person walked up and said he was there about the car. The first guy said, "I was here first!!!" I said, "Your right. If you give me $1,000 for the car it's yours!" He gave me $1,000, I signed the title over to him. And as far as the second guy that showed up, (My friend) he went inside and we had lunch! :-)

Always say “yes it’s available. When did you want to pick up YOUR table?” It just puts it in their head that they own the table. They just need to come and get it.
Great tips! I just started woodworking and just sold my first item. I staged it and made sure to add something bright to catch people’s attention. It’s just a hobby but I enjoy it so I plan to continue selling.

Hi, really like this video, thank you. You’ve really got some of the sales techniques/tip downs. I’ve been car sales for about 10 years and I know a lot of sales people that could do with some of this advice. The big one was definitely number 10, it’s amazing how hard it is for people to ask for the business. I would just like to add, when it comes to negotiation don’t be afraid to say no and justify the reasons why no. You touched on this in the video, sometimes people might not know the reason they paying a premium. Just make sure you don’t leave it open if there is nothing you can do. I used to see so many New starters say things like let me see, I’ll try, let me look into that. All the customer here’s is yes. If you can’t move on price the answer is no. A polite and justified no but still no. I have just started in woodworking and i’m really liking your videos, they’re giving me a lot of confidence going forward. Thank you.
Fantastic video. I have been building for years for myself and thought about this for a long time. I’m going to go for it! I can’t wait to get started!

Your #2 tip reminded me of a funny joke. You can put all of the info in there, size, shape, weight, material etc. and invariably someone will ask, "what's the length?" .. true story, I was selling a used bike on FBM and in the title it said "Men's 26" Bike ... " and the first question I got was "is it a man's bike or women's bike and also what is the size?" .. no kidding, I actually received that.
Nice video, thank you :) Bit of a tangential question but, what sort of dust extractor do you use? i'm just starting to look into what would work for me, and I've got a similar size space to you.

Guys I love your channel have been watching lots of your videos. I want to learn how to wood work, not interested in the business building part as of yet. I'm 64 and retired plus a disabled vet with PTSD. I like to keep my hands busy and have always wanted to wood work. I love the fact that you and others are working together to become businesses, it's totally awesome. I am interested in knowing if you would build me a cutting table for my sewing projects. It would be like a kitchen table but would be used for laying out a couple of yards of material and cutting it up for whatever project I'm working on. I have back problems so it needs to be high enough about 35" so I don't have to bend over to cut out projects. I only problem would be getting it to me. I live in Southeast Missouri in Portageville.
I've been making stuff on my CNC for about a year and I make some cool stuff. But I lost faith in my sales because of the 1$ thing. Thank you so much I'm getting back on the grind.
I don't have a CNC but would pay to have just certain cuts from one for random projects. A bet there is other wood workers out there like me that would buy cuts if you sell them at a price they could incorporate in their projects and still make a reasonable profit. Basically paying to use the router briefly. Its usually smaller more complex pieces which would ship for cheap. Put that cnc to work for you until you begin selling what you want to make
Great video. Marketplace has set my business on fire in my area for the last year. It went from a hobby selling a few things to BAM, to a full on small business. What you said in tip 3 was spot on. I once made a post and labeled it "free" and posted about 10 things that I've made. I was mainly thinking it would get people to my facebook business page to see what me and my Wife make and hopefully there was something for everyone lol. I got a lot of business out of it but more headache than anything. I probably received 200 messages about how much this cost or that cost. It got so crazy I just started copy and pasting the same reply to everyone. I think I got about 10 jobs out of it and 30-40 new followers which has gotten me some more business but I'd rather just post one item per post and link my fb page from now on or website when it's built. Hi Jennie and Davis. I love your videos. They’re not only informative but also full of fun to watch. Can you please tell me how much the fee is to join? Many thanks, Joe.
LOL Can you build it out of rare wood then paint it black. LOL Some people would probably still say yes. You two are enjoyable to watch, with humor. Do you have a video showing what you can sell and what you got paid for items? I make some rare wood crafts but have no idea how to reach others since my personal FB page is not public and won't be. I'd need to make a FB for the business only.

My wife and I were interested in joining your stud stack group after binge watching your videos. We went to your website to look at pricing information but couldn’t find any. It wasn’t until we got all the way to the last step of paying for it that we saw it was $50 a month. We were shocked to say the least. Websites with hours upon hours upon hours of video and written content are less than half that price. We went to the actual fb group next to maybe get a hint at what we would be getting for that price. The group only has 57 members. We just can’t see how that tiny of a group is worth $600 a year! I’m not trying to say you’re bad people or are doing anything wrong, you can set the price to whatever you feel like. We just wanted to give you the perspective of a potential customer. Hiding the monthly price until checkout confirmation, charging so much for such a small group, and being really vague about what a person can expect for their hard earned money (sorry but “people share ideas” isn’t a valid description) was really off putting for us. Just our thoughts, for whatever they’re worth.
Hi Russell, we price the Stud Stack to keep it intentionally intimate. If the group gets too big, people lose their voice. The price is also an easy way to weed-out those who aren't serious about their business. It has very little to do with how much money we want to make - we consistently do giveaways, free months, private coaching calls, etc. for the members of the group. In our opinion, someone who can't justify spending a small monthly fee to learn and improve isn't in the right mindset to use the advice they might solicit from the group. Appreciate your perspective and your respectful feedback! Maybe one day we'll see you in the group ;)
@@thepoolwizard3512 my favorite part was the condescending “only serious people” in their reply. My wife and I have made our company our full time job since I posted this. We make high end slab tables. I guess we were “serious” after all. What a couple of jerks lol
@@russellcarter6451 I had a feeling this was a scam. Their video's are informative and professional, but no thanks on the studstack nonsense. The only light I see at the end of the tunnel is you can cancel any time. 57 members (a year ago) times $75 each is $4275/month. Not getting wealthy by any stretch, but pretty good income. Russel do you have a facebook, I wanted to ask some questions about cabinet building
@@russellcarter6451 they are more sale people then anything, they make a good sales pitch and sucks people in, kinda like those get rich quick, come take this course people.
I don’t build furniture but I do refinish it, I have found that when doing custom orders it complicates things if I give my clients too many choices, usually they just say “ I like your style so I’m giving you full design control” that’s a scary thing sometimes, I usually just ask for a photo of the room the piece will be in. Another thing that I always do is write a short thank you postcard and in that I always ask them for feedback in the form of a business review, I feel like small business owners are afraid to do that or they just don’t know how to ask but reviews can make or break a small business.
I have used market place several times now for non business items and it has never failed to be a horrible experience. I have been apprehensive about putting my products on there because of that. But these tips might make me change my mind and give it a try.
Yeah, you just gotta know what you're getting yourself into. Set up rules and procedures to keep the 'horrible experiences' at a distance, and you'll be good to go!
That is the part I love about it. It keeps the riffraff from selling on there. I sell a very niche product and most of my competitors choose to not sell on Market Place. lol
Lol. But that is literally the prefilled message Facebook wants people to send. 🤣 They don’t even get to see the description before Facebook is like “HERE, SEND THIS MESSAGE.” And to be fair, people often don’t delete or change post statuses, which is equally annoying for a buyer as being asked if something is available as the seller.
@@lunaroman3117 No matter what it says, it's too easy for people to hit. I've even hit it myself on accident. But, like I said, I LOVE that feature because it urinates others off so they don't sell as much on Market Place. lol

The reenactment is spot on. Lol!
This is great and so relevant for me, thank you for sharing!
Absolutely love you guys! Been trying to sell on marketplace for a while... used some of the tips from here and BAM 3 orders in a few days! Thanks for the tips!
Nice! Great job, Richard! Thanks for letting us know it helped.
You two are awesome! Thank you for this.
Great tips, thanks for the video!
Hi Jennie and Davis. I love your videos.
They’re not only informative but also full of fun to watch.
Can you please tell me how much the fee is to join?
Many thanks, Joe.
The wonder winder! I love mine! Great video. I'm just starting out and love your videos. Very informative thank you
Yeah we love ours too! Thanks!
You guys are AWESOME! I have been frustrated about my sales and these tips will be helpful
Thanks, Jeff! If you think this video is helpful, get in the Stud Stack. If you've enjoyed our content as a subscriber for almost a year, I know you'll find value there! -Davis
I’ve just recently learned how to turn on the lathe. I’ve made pens and keychains, now I’m making rustic bottle stoppers. So, I opened a bottle of wine, put in my bottle stopper, took 2 pictures with the stopper in and one picture with the stopper out on the table ( to get a full look at the stopper) I’ve posted it, and I’ll keep you posted as to my results
@@jeffruffing2316 Dude. That's amazing - I'm sure the guys in the Stud Stack would love to see your pictures and hear about your success - even as a beginner you can help others with your perspective.
You had me with the Buc-ee’s t. Best place on earth.

Hello from Missouri
Do you get ask if it is new?
It looks like you can make money woodworking by charging $75/month for content.
@@russellcarter6451 they are more sale people then anything, they make a good sales pitch and sucks people in, kinda like those get rich quick, come take this course people.
i like the video response idea. I have thought that in the past i lost work because of email and texting.
Happens all too often - "I'll get back to you" 😉
I don’t build furniture but I do refinish it, I have found that when doing custom orders it complicates things if I give my clients too many choices, usually they just say “ I like your style so I’m giving you full design control” that’s a scary thing sometimes, I usually just ask for a photo of the room the piece will be in. Another thing that I always do is write a short thank you postcard and in that I always ask them for feedback in the form of a business review, I feel like small business owners are afraid to do that or they just don’t know how to ask but reviews can make or break a small business.
Love your vids.....
BUCKIES!!!!!!! Oh man. I’m from Utah and Loved that place! I-10 on the way to San Antonio. Best. Stop. Ever!
Bruce said please don't just hold your hand there without a good rub. 😊 Thanks for the video.
Great video guys. Is the dog still available? What kind is it ? Male or female? What are the dimensions?
Peace Chris.
@@jennieanddavis thanks for the reply you two are awesome.
Hell yeah!! Great tips and awesome folks at the end 😉
They're pretty great!
Great advice about pricing. Price shoppers are frequently the worst customers.
I have people meet at my garage shop. They like seeing the shop and it allows me to cross-sell other products :)
hahahaha....the FB chat part was hilarious. "Is this item still available". I HATE that!
But, like I said, I LOVE that feature because it urinates others off so they don't sell as much on Market Place. lol
What was that extension cord reel basket at 11 minutes? Did you guys make it?
