Mark Lewisohn has professionally studied the Beatles since the late '70s. Mark has worked for Paul McCartney himself from 1986 to 2001, for the Beatles' own company Apple Corps from 1991 to 1998, and has also collaborated with the surviving members for the enormous 1995 autobiographical "Anthology" project...
But beyond his extraordinary books and even beyond the Beatles themselves (!), listening to Mark Lewisohn talking about the Fab Four during those long conversations with various Beatles fans, Beatles experts and Beatles students from all around the world, is indeed a fascinating and informative experience in itself. It is a vibrant and breathtaking experience because it is like listening to a series of rich in-depth lectures on what life used to be like in the Western World after World War II, during the 1950s and obviously during the great legendary 1960s.
Hence the existence of this channel.

What great questions! These are not average, mundane questions! I throughly enjoyed the back and forth. Especially about George/Paul, plus the key other- Beatles biographers. So many great informative topics and descriptions. I love Mark Lewisohn and his brilliant hard work! Thank you.

One of the best interviews with Mark Lewisohn I think. Heavier on personal things than of Beatles, though that cannot be divided. Still learned a lot of new stuff about the Beatles too.

I grew up in the Mpls area. We'd heard about The Beatles even before Sullivan, but after that Beatlemania exploded here and WDGY radio which back then was top 40 played all the Beatles stuff and continued with each new single that hadn't even made it into stores. Pretty cool in the neighborhood when a new song came on, everybody stopped what they were doing until the song finished! Quite a period of time!
As a teenager during the 60s The Beatles Monthly pen pal page was fantastic place to meet girls. I was a 15 year old cabin boy on tugs in the UK at the time and had a pen pal in every port. Very innocent times those days, pretty much holding hands and swopping Beatles stories over a coffee.
Hurry up Mark and get that book finished!
I just finished Tune In about four hours ago so, yeah, I’m off the same mind. Great book!
He's not been doing "Evolvers", interviews, or in other people's films for a little while now, so hopefully he's in the process of writing volume 2 now?
Beatles For Sale is a very sad album... apart from a couple of rock & rolls and, even those other that are suppose to "sheer up", you can notice some sadness on the voice or melody... You need to hear those 5 albums one after the other (Please Please Me to Rubber Soul) and surely will agree.
Since Mark listed his favorite album as Please Please Me, I found this deliciously interesting from Wikipedia- “Before deciding on the title Please Please Me, Martin considered calling the album Off the Beatle Track, a title he would later use for his own orchestral album of Beatles songs. The album was recorded on a two-track BTR tape machine with most of the instruments on one track and the vocals on the other, allowing Martin to better balance the two in the final mono mix. A stereo mix was also made with one track on the left channel and the other on the right, as well as an added layer of reverb to better blend the two tracks together. The two tracks generally divided the instrumental track from the vocals, with the exception of "Boys", in which the close proximity of Ringo's drums to his vocal microphone placed the drums (but not the other instruments) on the vocal channel”.

Has Mark ever commented on the ‘Paul is dead’ controversy?
I don’t think he’d lower himself.
He's gonna have to for Volume 3!
Yellow Submarine is my least favourite…mainly because I gave myself tinnitus while listening to it. 😢
