- Reviewing the Bakflip F1 after 8 years to see how it held up on our 2014 F150. Also, we have a new F1 right next to it on a 2021 F250. We compare what's changed and what we think after 8 years of use.

I'm happy with my MX4 that I bought and have been using daily since 2018. Just bought a new truck and decided to swap it to my new truck as it was still in pretty good shape. Called the manufacturer and they are sending me a new front seal that I left on my old truck when it sold. The pads near the latches closest to the tailgate recently fell off but I ended up using Gorilla Glue to reinstall some 3M rubber pieces which helps to protect my tonneau when it's folded.

Your welcome
I hear the f1 gets heavy because of water getting into the pannels. Yours seems to be evidence of that fact.
Thank you very much. I appreciate your detailed review that was actually long term. I see “long term 6-month” reviews online, which doesn’t tell you much. I see the second fold in doesn’t have a latch. Is this a security issue where this section can be pulled up, or does it only fold one way? Without seeing one first hand it’s hard to tell.
It only folds one-way. It's still secure. With it fully closed there no way to lift that section up.
Good info. Did you have to drill the holes for the drain?
Yes. There are oval-shaped plastic plugs in both the F150 and the F250. They are in the front panel facing the cab. I used a step bit, 5/8" hole was just the right size, which keeps the drain hose snug in the hole.
Would you recommend the F1 or the MX4?
The F1 is hands down the one I would recommend.
Hey I had same question. Maybe F1 is for me
Thank you
Is it easy to keep dust off of it?
It's better than a soft cover or the aluminum textured. Dust wipes off very easily, especially with a little detail spray.
