I almost got the 31hp kawasaki version of this mower. My dad had an older z500 and it is still going strong. I love the toro quality. They are built great but i liked that the old z500 had many more greaseable points. The 4000 barely had any. That is one of the main reasons that i got a snapper pro 200xt.
I just bought this very mower today, the reason I went with it is im 6' 6" and I have leg room especially with the seat slid back. I tried the my ride and the seat didn't slide back as far. The control levers wouldn't push past my knees on the other ones without me having to cross my feet, that gets uncomfortable pretty quick!
I have 40hrs on my 4000 I run a mulch kit I don't have any issues with the debre build up on the deck but definitely on the hydro shelf i don't like the gas gage or were its located qish they went with the exmark style other then that great mower
It's best to blow off the mower right quick after every mow. Those pulley covers do protect sticks and branches from getting caught in the belt, but I've run many mowers with them off 🤷♂️ Might be easier to blow off those hydros on the trailer, unless you have an enclosed. If you have that, then a handblower would work.
We blow off every time, but the space is so tight it still builds up. Only way I have been able to successfully remove most of the grass is by crawling under and removing by hand.
Great review! I think most of the cons you addressed would be better on the 5000 series. The 5000 does have some baffling, and in our testing we compared a 4000 and a 5000 with the same engine in tall grass at the same height. The 4000 cut way quicker then the 5 with the open deck design but the 5000 shredded the clippings more which make the cut look cleaner without the visible clippings. The 5000 also has the parker transmission setup which may alleviate the issue with debris buildup, but the ground speed will actually be slower. All in all both have been great machines, the 4000 being better on ground speed and cut efficiency and the 5 being better at low speed/technical and cut quality.
@@javanwinders3399 A 6000 has an even bigger parker transmission. Plus larger engine options. The 5 is paired with 25 hp engines from Kohler or Kawasaki and the 6 gets the big 35 horse or bigger options. The deck is the same. Rumor has it the 5 and 6 will go through a redesign and merge to become more like the 4000 lineup. Where you have 2 different transmission options and many engine options in the same series. So waiting to see how that will end up.
The side flap is so we can close off the discharge. We use it when mowing in places we don’t want to throw grass on things like cares, houses, sidewalks, or the street. Stays open 99% of the time though. We ordered ours from Ballard.com
This mower is very fast and nimble. I have the 31hp that cuts nice from the turbo force deck. Looks to be an upgrade from the Exmark Ultracut 4 deck. The tires that came with it are complete garbage! I had mine for 2 days now and already bought some Carlisle AT101.
Exmark radius pretty much was first with the platform. That 4000 is basically a redesign with improvement. Now why Toro got rid of the adjustable baffle on that machine is beyond me. The 3000,5000, and 6000 turbo force decks still have it. (3000 discontinued) I'd like to see if the 4000 can deliver the same performance as the replacement.
I have the exact same mower except I have the bigger hybrid tires. Everything you mentioned I would counter and say it’s called you have maintain your mower. If you don’t blow off your mower every or every other mow yes of course your going to accumulate grass. I blow mine off every mow or every every other at the very least and I have no problems. You obviously don’t maintain your mower
We blow them off each time we finish a lawn. The blower doesn't remove all the grass. The only way I have been able to get out almost everything from the hydro skid plate in to pull it out by hand which is hard to do. If the belt covers are on even after blowing off we still have grass that gets caught up under them. We removed those and that fixed the problem. We cut a lot of thick grass and it is often wet in the morning when we start. You can blow all you want but it still builds up on that skidplate.
Got to leave the covers over the belts, safely issues..what if a imployee gets clothes caught in it.? Or a finger...poss law suit..beware..I know it's crazy but ..what if..?

This one does have plenty of room
Thanks for the review... Are you going to stick with it?
Yes we like it
Would you guys be interested in demoing Toro's stand on and doing a review on it?
Yes I would love to try out a Grandstand
@@javanwinders3399 Great! We finally, got our hands on one for a demo, stop by and get it.
I do not have that specific mower but online what I do is leave the covers off and I'll blow the machine off after every grass cut

@@javanwinders3399 maybe a long reach air blow gun can get in there easily

Thank you for the information! How would you say a 6000 compares?

I'll take the speed
@leonardomigot4040 ????
How heavy is the 4000 compared to the 2000?
Adjust your your carburetor, from factory they idle fast slow the idle down it will use less gas
where did you get that side flap from? what is it for? thx 4 Help - Greeting from Germany

How are the AT101 tires? Are they gently on the grass when you turn? I’ve always been curious about them, but never had any
The at101 tires are the best. No they dont tear up the grass if you know how to make turns.
@@javanwinders3399 I also wanted to point out that surprisingly the deck was not clogged with grass too much at all after cutting wet grass all week.
@@EdStaniszewski yes ours stays fairly cleaned out under there. We don’t have to scrape the deck out very often
