What makes murder an adult crime?
Surely, an adult with a fully developed brain knows the implications of said crime, has the emotional capability to understand the impact and has real life experience in the adult world to know.
A child on the other hand does not, so murder in a sense is an immature act of carelessness.
Why should a child be treated like an adult? we need to protect children, the good and the bad.

Congrats to the both of you for rising above the trauma but not everyone is capable of that. We should take these factors into consideration of why a person commits crimes to weigh the possibility of rehabilitation and also as proof to use to help prevent future people from being so broken they hurt others.

tbh I think it is worth mentioning when doing a deep dive on crimes because the past and the lives of the perpetrators is interesting, but it's neither an excuse nor an explanation. I don't even like the explanation angle. Sadly, millions of kids get horribly abused, and most don't end up ever harming anyone but maybe themselves. It's not an explanation. It does impact who we grow up to be, but not significantly enough to explain becoming a pedophile murderer.
Also, there's been this assumption for years that people who get sexually abused as children are more likely to become pedophiles, but nowadays the believe is much more that sadly, it happens to so many children, that it's not a surprise there's many pedophiles who were victims, but it has absolutely nothing to do with becoming that.
If every fourth child experiences abuse, then it's not surprising that in a big group of pedohiles, there would be a lot of them who experienced it as children, the exact same as in any big group of people no matter what. There is absolutely no evidence supporting that it is related.

Since he got tried and convicted as a juvenile, they could only sentence him up to 10 years, which means he will be due for release in 2025. He will be 25 years old by then and still a danger to society. The type of crime he committed, there is no rehabilitation for. There is no cure for someone who rapes and kills little children. @@gram5963 People need to stop romanticising children. It is well known that children can be incredibly cruel - you only have to look at the bullying statistics. Children are not 'innocent little beings'. They are ignorant, not innocent. Once they 'know' about things, they are just as capable of perpetrating those atrocities as an adult. Especially considering their brains aren't fully developed yet; they lack compassion, empathy, impulse control, and aren't fully cognisant of the consequences of their actions. For instance, if young boys had a fully functioning sex drive, and knew about sex, the sexu@l assault statistics in kindergarten and elementary schools would probably exceed that of grown men. They would be cornering little girls (and boys) all over the place, because they haven't learnt restraint or right and wrong yet. Children are not 'good' because they are 'innocent' - it's that they don't know about things yet, and their behaviour is constantly corralled and curbed by parents, teachers etc. Take that away, give them knowledge, and they would be monsters to rival, if not exceed, any grown adult.

I guarantee you, Maddie was not his 1st victim. Rapists/Killers don’t just automatically and suddenly beat, rape and kill all at once. They start with smaller, more secretive crimes against victims. Likely, there were other children who were too young to understand what he had done to them behind closed doors and therefore never came forward.
To release this monster in a few years is nothing short of willfully endangering every single person that crosses his path in the future.

There are sociopathic people who don’t kill others/inflict pain even though they don’t feel the same empathy as most, and I don’t believe that someone diagnosed with sociopathy but has otherwise never harmed/showed signs of harming anyone should be locked away. Plenty of people are capable of murder under the right circumstances, and we shouldn’t consider them guilty of it prior.
But once they have crossed the line into hurting other people, there is no rehabilitation, because they won’t regret it. This case had no gray area. The rape and murder of a child is not a “mistake” someone can come back from. Appalling that the law was unable to bring justice.

The Tannery does back up to the river, and one of the search dogs hit on her scent by the river, so they focused their efforts there at first, if I remember correctly. I was at the beach with my daughters that day and we saw helicopters circling the area. We didn't know they were searching for Maddy until we came home and looked it up. She was found on my daughter's 9th birthday. We didn't know Maddy, but she was a friend of a friend/former neighbor.

The defense attorney should be responsible and sued for AJ's future murders. You already know that he is a psychopath who will kill again.
Also it's ironic that the attorney used the words "we can't just throw children away" when that is exactly what his client did to someone else's child.

No. The elected officials who passed the law are to blame. The attorney has to fight for his client or he risks losing his ability to practice law. This is so horrifying. I cannot imagine my child disappearing, even for an hour, let alone like this, just to be found gone. Thinking of what her mother's gone through just breaks my heart. And I feel terrible for the murderer's mother as well. She didn't deserve this.
Also - the "he had a bad childhood"/he's troubled/etc. thing is CRAP. I had a bad childhood (not the worst, but rough), and an even worse early adulthood, and I've been through things most people wouldn't even be able to sit and listen to, horrible things. I'm also mentally ill and used to be a drug addict also (though I've now been clean for 5 years.) And I would NEVER lay a finger on anyone, EVER, for any reason, no matter how out-of-it/upset/whatever I was or whatever the hell. NONE of these things like trauma, mental illness (within reason, maybe REALLY extreme ones would be different), bad childhoods, bullying, etc. - are excuses for something like this. Not even CLOSE. I'm tired of hearing that as some sort of justification for pieces of crap hurting/abusing/killing people. F-- that. No.

I'm about midway through the video and just heard what she had endured, on top of being murdered, and how horrible what that sweet, little girl had endured. I cannot imagine how absolutely frightened she must have been, especially after realizing someone she actually trusted was doing this to her. How heartbreaking for her parents. I don't think I could ever get over a death of my child (if I had one), but especially such a brutal death and left out for trash/recycling.
Hope Angel Maddy is flying high in paradise.
Thanks for the upload, sisters, and hope you're enjoying the weekend!

I agree! She died of positional asphyxiation, which means she could have been alive for hours in that bin slowly suffocating, from not being able to breath properly. That would be such an awful and inhumane death. I would have no problem with him getting the death sentence. Screw sentencing him as a child! He would just get out and do it again. He is a danger to society. They need to execute people like him, so they can never get out and hurt other children. He planned it all out playing with the kids to gain their trust. He is just downright evil.
Edit: He only got 4 years WTF? That in itself is an atrocity. That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard in a very, very, long time. He definitely deserved execution. Maddy doesn't get to come back after 4 years. So why should he be walking the streets free in 4 years.
