You should. It’s a lot of fun. I wish I could go back 20 years and learn more. Rotoscoping is very time consuming and even a short clip like this can take hours.
definitely get into it! It's an industry that gets more and more accessible to anyone. The fact that any filmmaker or creator can make something like this has only become possible pretty recently.
@@royaltoadclub8322 it should help with a lot of time consuming stuff, like auto-roto! The generative stuff is interesting, will be curious to see where it is in 5-10 years
I've been using After Effects since CS3 back in 2007 and let me tell you, this effect would have been a pain in the ASS back then. Having to design that explosion yourself since drag and drop elements were still fairly hard to come by, then having to rotoscoping the character yourself FRAME BY FRAME. People can hate on advancements like AI all they want but if it means no more time wasted on shit like that I'll take it.

Incredible how these programs are constantly updating & getting better versions all the time. This 90 second video tutorial would’ve literally taken @ least 90 minutes just for each step in particular years ago.
Now we just have to fix the color of the explosion sfx and the light it emits. So that the explosion feels like it's part of the scene and does something in the scene.
Someone please tell me EVERYTHING I need to learn to start this journey. I will study them all like I dont have any sense😅 this is the type of stuff I want to do. But everyone keeps gatekeeping info. I already know words like compositing, render, blender, match moving, and that’s about it and I’m freaking out🤯 I need a list to work down from so I can become something great in this field.
rotoscoping & motiontracking aren't 2 very simple concepts in AE, even if they are easier done today as before - you still have to invest work and time to fix the rotoscoping and tracking, also for grading and other tricks for getting stuff fitting in the scene. It's not done by some 'clicks'. What's shown here of this short composite needs about an hour or more - if your are a profi.
It’s not as accurate it doesn’t let you pin point just one point to track and sometimes it’s not as good of a track depending on how the shot is, so track motion is better sometimes x depends on what you’re doing I guess
Good job but the more sophisticated viewer will still question the final result, probably, unless some further finessing was put into it. Questions such as: why isn't the guy flat on the ground dead? That proximity to the blast would've sent him flying with organs exploded by the shockwave. Speaking of which, that was some slow ass shockwave (maybe that's why nothing happened to our rotoscoped guy? lol) Why didn't the grass (hay?) move? No dust cloud when this happens in the middle of a dusty field? Also, that explosion should be farther away imo. Oh well, either it's a comedy, a simple example of what to do when rotoscoping, or a student project, which will probably get top marks. 👍

you should look for a after effects course. there are many free courses on youtube that are actually good for beginners
for compositing, vfx after effects is used
for video editing you should learn premiere pro or da vinci resolve,
and blender is for 3d stuff
amazing👍

this straight up what cyriak uses
then you could bind the tracking to the zero layer and the object to it, thanks. it will simplify my work a bit.

Why not using track camera instead? Is it because the tracking took longer time?
