I've worked with AE for decades, right from the beginning. This is a great tutorial for beginners. One suggestion, Peter. When referring to left or right sides of any App's workspace, realize that we are looking at it from the opposite angle so you would serve your students very well if you gestured left when referring to the right or vice versa. All the best. Keep it up.
Best 24 minutes of my life. I am seriously the type of person to easily "freak out" or get anxious especially when learning new skills. I truly appreciate you describing both the "WHY" and the "HOW" of Adobe After Effects in fun, light-hearted and descriptive way. I hope to see more tutorials from you. I subscribed to your channel... I'LL BE BACH! Happy New Year, Peter!
As a teacher of nearly twenty years, I can say that this was a pretty beautiful explanation. You've got a gift for teaching, and I can understand why you've got 4.33 million subscribers! Nice work!
Or like Latin. You're eager to learn the vocabulary 'cause it's a new important main subject and everything but then more and more grammar and tables and stuff come in that you have to learn by heart in order to be able to understand everything so you lose motivation over time. (I'm only saying this cause I wanted to lol, I'm actually still trying to understand After Effects so I can do cool stuff with videos. The part about Latin is true though...)
I've searched up tons of AE tutorial for my dumbass to understand this software and I always fall asleep halfway but man you managed to keep me through the whole video. Gotta appreciate the energy and enthusiasm in him!
I’ve never used a single adobe software and I’m starting with after effects! Is this a mistake? 😂. Update: I wanted to throw my laptop at first, but once I got the basics it started to become easier! I now love it and feel generally pretty comfortable using the software (there’s still tons I don’t know)

That seems scary but look at some tutorial that looks fun, learn it have fun, then do another and another and another you'll have fun and learn what part of after effects you'll have fun and want to learn the most of.
This was one of the first videos I've found of you where the majority of the comments are people complaining, b*tching and moaning about how much you talk. I think people who are into video graphics are very impatient users. What they don't know is that your style of presenting complex information made simple for beginners while having a great personality is one of the main reasons why you're a successful UA-camr. Hi Peter! I'm on the beginning of my road with videomaking, and I just discovered your youtube profile. I have to say, that for long time I have been trying to find some kind of inspiration, some kind of spark or impuls to really drawn deeply into videomaking. Usually looking for some kind of information whas very hard for me because I used to feel stress and frustration, because most of guys doing tutorials where like "full of knowledge-cold robots", talking hours abouts numbers, settings, parameters, that I started to feel like videomaking is totally not for me, because my lack of knowlage and difficulties with learning it. I always had only vision and ideas and I didn't know how to put them on paper. But finally I found someone some passionate about films and so "normal", that I feel after watching couple of your films, that I found someone that really emphasizes the priorities of videomaking which for me are vision, good taste and be passionate whatever you shoot - concert, wedding or piece of paper laying on the street. I feel like I made gigant progression in very short period of time after watching your work. Thank you so much because you really inspired me the way I always wanted to be inspired. You encouraged me to push forward every day, to do small things and small steps every day, do not be frustrated if I don't reach the summit every time I try or do something, but to stay focused, learn with humble, do things right now and accept the fact, that even if I don't like it 100% and it's not great, I do as best as I can at this moment, because the most important is to GET JOB DONE, NOT PERFECT. I know I'm late, but I'll be honored if you would like to take a look at my B roll challange - ua-cam.com/video/9y86ZhnCeiE/v-deo.html . Had very little time to make it, but I mobilized myself and I thought - "I will do whatever I can do right now, without excuse of "waiting for a better moment". I hope to get feedback, Thanks a lot again and keep going, your work really affects positively on others! Adrian

Wait until you try to make realistic CGI in Cinema4D. that one is still kicking my ass. Keep it up though! After Effects is fun. There is a ton to do in it but don't let the size of the workshop stop you from using the tools :)
This tutorial is a life saver, Thank you Peter! However I do have one suggestion (perhaps I missed it) but it would be super helpful if you included a download link to the footage you edit in this video, just so people can follow your steps and have a go at doing the same proccess alongside you :) I know I definitely learn better by doing, but other than that, bloody fantastic stuff mate !
I’m so glad I got after effects! It’s a lot easier to do 3D motion tracking in here than in Premiere Pro. *I shudder as I think of previous traumatic experiences with manual frame by frame tracking*
Always had a scared feeling when someone said the two words: After Effects... Now it seems to be one of the easiest editting programs out there ! Thanks man

The only sincere tutoring I’m able to see on UA-cam in 6 months ever since I developed interest in Ae ❤❤
4:03 the vid starts... ur welcome
life saver
Tq
i was searching for this thankss
I I think I’m in love

Oh my God, you're explaining this so nicely! Thank you for teaching us for free.. this is like a gift.

Katie Weinhold STOPS BREATHING TOO
Amber B hahaha accurate 😂
100% accurate
He's got the hook on us.
HAAHAHAHAHHA
This was by far the best training I have seen on an extremely confusing program. Thank you. Do more! I am buying your course now
The one thing I’ve been very intimidated by, so glad Peter McKinnon made this video!
Wait until you try to make realistic CGI in Cinema4D. that one is still kicking my ass. Keep it up though! After Effects is fun. There is a ton to do in it but don't let the size of the workshop stop you from using the tools :)
This video title should've been "how to move text through space and time in after effect."
Or, "How to Pick Whip your text through space and time"!
I don’t have Ae YET! I’m just preparing myself-
I can tell I’m gonna struggle with this app 🤭😂
Me too
same
Same
Everyone will. Everyone will.
Hey Peter, Even 2 years after posting this video. The value is incredible. Lots of love to you and I am grateful for the tutorial. Thanks
"Look at that crispy, tastiness.
We're back baby, 4K. Mmm, feels good !"
My Motivation ⏫⏫⏫
Can't wait for part 2
I've used AE for a few years and I LOVE IT! I recommend it for anyone who wants to have fun! haha
Best tutorial on After FX I've ever seen. Nice one
"Peter Mckinnon Sound Pack - Link In Description" Haha Shameless plug
Dillon Productions Where is it though? I was excited...
i did actually look the description for that sound pack
Click on the Lightroom Preset link and you will see it down the bottom of that page, it is called 'PM Sound Pack'
It starts with links to the merch and ends with Peter in a boxing match against Jared Polin :D
Well, It's Here! sellfy.com/p/flC5/
😂😊❤
I needed this - thanks mate :)
i like this guy, tons of energy and explains things well for people unfamiliar with these concepts.
The problem is I don’t have cool clips like that to work with💀
just download some stock footage
Do a video wth your phone hovering your cat.
Damn bro u like to talk
My thoughts during the whole video XD
tasty mouth
He likes to hear his own voice.
Probably that's why he got to 3,5 millions subs so quickly tho!
There's a mute button. Just saying.
I’m so glad I got after effects! It’s a lot easier to do 3D motion tracking in here than in Premiere Pro. *I shudder as I think of previous traumatic experiences with manual frame by frame tracking*
I am barely exploring my edits skills..and my dude this has been the best tutorial i have seen. Thank you
You know you love Peter McKinnon when you watched a whole 24 minute tutorial on your phone in bed 1:44am in the morning.
soooooo helpful! youve made everything so easy to understand. i appreciate you so much fr this
I love this guy. He is like the substitute teacher everyone loves
Your explanation is so clear and you had my attention like entire 25 mins. Literally feels like I can nail after effects already.
Always had a scared feeling when someone said the two words: After Effects... Now it seems to be one of the easiest editting programs out there
! Thanks man
This is a great tutorial he actually understands that this is a new thing for people to do. Nice job 👍
Loving the childish gambino knockoff track. SOOO GROOVY.
Dunna Did It hey I love your amazing content
Herbal Giles - Hey!! Thank you so much!
John Clarke - haha I think I probably only caught it because I’ve used that song in a video before
I noticed that too! What song is it??
Steven Anzo - it sounds like Redbone 😁
Great way to explain complex ideas. His humor and enthusiasm are contagious.
*actually refills coffee @ 11:27
