For me this is the most relatable Disney song bar none People have learned that we are all gods children regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation Someone doesn't HAVE to support gay rights for example, but they should still love the gay person simply for being a member of the human family I think it's high time that we live up to what the poor man from Galilee taught us. We are all the children of God and he knows all of us by name, even the ones that have not yet come into this world If we could all learn to accept others for who they are the world would be a much better place
yeah the lyrics are pretty powerful, especially when she said "Were you once an outcast too?", just like how Jesus and Christians who were outcasts and persecuted.
Душан Радин I never ever said animals were humans, you moron! I said animals are also children of God. Every living thing; every strand of grass or ant you see are children of God. And news flash, humans ARE animals too. We are not superior or more important than the animals. God loves all his creations equally.
Everytime I hear this song the spirit just comes over me... the person writing it fully understands human nature and the spirit of God... One of... if not the most.... beautiful songs Disney have put out!!! I love this song so much.... literally in tears.... and Esmeralda so humble..... the people in the church most likely people who have enough.... have a home... and Esmeralda having not even a roof over her head, or a stable home to live in, ask for NOTHING! Puts so much in perspective... on the concept of being greatful.... and money isnt everything.... Ahh Just such and amazing beautiful simple song... wish Disney put out more things like this.... Kids need it more now than ever!
"I ask for nothing, I can get by, but I know so many less lucky than I" Straightaway beat all Disney Princess songs ever sung in history of the world! This is probably one of the deepest, meaningful songs Disney ever had
This is the most beautiful song I've ever heard. Seriously. The best. The people praying for fame or fortune when they never think about others is true. I used to do this. Each night I would ask God to make me famous or super rich. Then I overheard someone praying for the people that don't have a bed to pray on or even know God. Now I respect all beliefs so don't diss this. I really listened to the prayer intentions and started praying for others. No I still want to be famous XD but I don't think that's God's will for me. I cried when I listen to this. I hope you have a SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS day. Love you all.
Any person who claims Christianity, listens to this song or watches this movie, and doesn't feel at least a little convicted is either a saint or a Judge Frolo level hypocrite. Most likely the later.
Me too, as a child i couldnt understand it but now i cry. Its a song by Mother Theresa cos she wants to help the outcasts from India. Now its not only a tribute to her but also for a real life Quasimodo who lives in Pakistan. Saw him in many toplists of deformed or extraordinary people, found information, other movies with him and yes, i admit it, love him cos he is actually handsome. Love him.
I think that's the point kinda, you know? Like the bishops idea of Godly wasn't even right and Esmeralda, who didn't even know what was "right", and the Hunchback were Godly without following the "rules"
This was always my mother's musical audition ong when she was in high school, and now it's on my list of possible//potential audition songs as well! Honestly, this and Hercules are, in my opinion two of the most underrated Disney films. Which is sad because of how amazing both of them are
Same here. Im happy that i was born in Disney's golden era which finished together with 20th century. I dont know if it finished cos of new century or cos we started growing up. The old good world finished on 11/9 or when Polish Pope John Paul II died in 2005. Yes then time stopped for me but mostly cos of different reasons. New ones are too empty in my opinion
***** Actually 1990s is not Disney's Golden Era their were under bankrupt that time even they grossed quite succesful especially the Aladdin and Lion King. The Golden Era of Disney is 1928-1966. The 90s was only the recovery time of Disney and they silenced from 2002-2008 until the Princess and the Frog releases.
Tj Samson What i mean is 90s is only the recovery time of Disney in Movies even their were Bankrupt but the Disney Parks are actually affected it most.
I'm baffled by the fact that this soundtrack is never brought up when talking about Disney. What Hunchback's songs are doing are on another level. Like...what other song in the entirety of Disney's discography touches on topics as heavy and difficult to understand as religious hypocrisy and unjust classism? What other song from them contains as much sadness while simultaneously being as uplifting and hopeful?
This is the sole reason that Esmeralda was my disney inflence growing up...she was as down-to earth as a disney character can get, and never asked for anything except for goodwill towards those less unfortunate... ^_^
You know the people who ask for wealth fame glory and love are damn selfish, but all Esmeralda wants is protection for her people and even those who are less lucky
This song is so pure and so beautiful and has the one of the most amazing messages a disney song has ever had..i hope people would see the deeper meaning and stop getting defensive and talking about religion..
Quasimodo exists for real and he is Sain Mumtaz. Saw a movie with facial deformities and there was him. Read his story and feel bad for him. Am no longer scared of him. This song would refer to him aswell cos he is real incarnation of Quasimodo and might have gone through the same. Also this song should be a tribute to Mother Theresa cos she took care of many Hindi pariases (and im obsessed with Hindi people), wanted them to live normally, to have more laws etc and her prayers would look like this. The word "outcast" cones from "out of cast" it means intouchables and she wanted to help them. So its a perfect song for Mother Theresa.
Such a beautiful movie from my childhood. I only today rewatched it and only now noticed some very adult themes that kinda passed me by as a child (for example now, as a child you don't really understand the concepts of lust yet, love is still easier to understand when you're pure and innocent, I never realized that it wasn't just Quasimodo and Phoebus that have a thing for Esmeralda, Frollo actually hates her not because she's a gypsy but because he lusts her). Frollo with his self-righteous attitude despite being a so called believer represents a lot of believers today. Self-righteous, judgmental, yet full of sin and still claiming to be good persons and only praying for personal gain). Esmeralda to me embodies what it truly means to be a Christian. Before she steps into Notre Dame she never knew God. Yet here, she asks to a God who is strange to her, nothing for herself. She even wonders if God was an outcast once too, the answer to that being "YES". This is the kind of prayer God would hear. Making a movie about religion is always a risky thing, but Disney did an amazing job with The Hunchback.
I love this song, but did anyone else notice the mouse, cursor thing flying around the screen when Esmarelda is walking through the rows of candles sing ing the, show them the mercy they don't find on earth, line?
Really beautiful... seems like a message for us from creators. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life". John 3:16💖
I have some disney sheet music for this song, and sadly they changed some of my favorite lines. probably to make it so they don't offend people... but still. this song makes me cry everytime i hear it.
We are god's children.I remember when my mom told me a story about a muslim who did not believe in god so he became sick and a light with a shape of a man the he believed god.Years later his brother became sich too so his brother and his brother's wife prayed to god to make him feel better than he died.He fell in a hole full of monsters he saw himself on the cross beside jesus then birds came to him pecking his eyes then he said that is not him so he prayed to god and arose from thevdead.his brother was very happy so believe that young and old are god's children
The Broadway musical was SO dark that it made me cry and depressed. I know they used the songs from the Disney animation along with Victor Hugo's book, but I'd rather stick with the animated version. I'm NEVER in the mood for sad endings in an animated film, I've seen enough!
I love this song's lyrics i Think the Danish singer is better but I love the lyrics in English more I love I thought we all we children of God. But I love another one more which is still I see your face and wonder were you once an outcast too? Like maybe once an outcast of being what they are. And when she says I now I shouldn't Speke to you like because she's a gypsy she's not allowed to talk to God but everyone is allowed no matter what or who they are so strong sentences
God is not exclusive. No matter who you are, God's love is always with you since you were created. It's your choice whether you would answer His love and mercy to you or not. His love is for everyone to have and share.
Good point there. But.... doesn't God have the foresight that some people are going to be made outcasts by society? And he could bear to create these souls to be born as outcast and suffer marginalization due to the ignorance of other human beings?
My guess, the same reason you have to learn for an exam. Life is a test and you have to earn a good grade. Everyone has to pay a price to get them. Just in different ways. No one is truly happy here. Everyone has obstacles and problems to deal with, just different kind of problems.
The original plan wasn't to have outcasts. When Adam and Eve sinned the world changed. Ever since, there's been hatred, racism, evil. People think that they are better than others. People judge others. God didn't want it this way, but He can't change it. He gave us free will even though it hurts Him when we use it to hurt others. Because of the free will Adam and Eve sinned and that's why there are outcasts
Because he wants to show them that he loves them and that we should take example from them. Aristo said that there are 3 ways of happiness. Live good (learn whats good and bad, pray, help etc, be Mother Theresa), feel good (be rich, famous, beautiful, have full and healthy family, be healthy, live like Bill Gates) and live long enough to appreciate this and experience. Whats better? Live good or feel good? Live good cos then you have nothing to lose, you are rich in the inside, have heart and conscience. And nobody can take it away from you. If you feel good, then you may lose wealth, fame and glory and then you may seek revenge. Esme lived good, didnt ask for anything, just help for Quasi (i pray for a real life Quasimodo who lives in Pakistan, mentioned him in my comment, may be ugly, but he is so ugly that i can call him handsome. He is cute in fact and i wish i could see him live. Dont really like deformed people but he is the exception. Dont know if its cos he is Pakistani and i have only Pakistani and Hindi friends, so they are mine even if i am European and a christian, or because he remainds me of Quasimodo. Suffers the same condition. It should be called Quasimodo syndrome instead of Proteus syndrome. This song may refer to him), she has nothing to lose by it. And Quasi is angelic cos he has nothing to lose either. Guess that Sini (i call him like this) either, cos his father loves him for who he is thats why they didnt want him to have surgery. God gave Sini to people who would take a good care of him. Both Quasi and Sini are ugly and deformed, but beautiful in the inside and maybe it makes them handsome.
"I ask for nothing, I can get by. But I know so many less lucky than I."
What a selfless, beautiful prayer!!! If only we all thought that way...
"I thought we all were the Children of God?"
That line is the most powerful line in any Disney song, bar none.
For me this is the most relatable Disney song bar none
People have learned that we are all gods children regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation
Someone doesn't HAVE to support gay rights for example, but they should still love the gay person simply for being a member of the human family

yeah the lyrics are pretty powerful, especially when she said "Were you once an outcast too?", just like how Jesus and Christians who were outcasts and persecuted.
Animals too are Children of God. When I listen to this, I think of them and not just other human beings.
Animals are not humans, end of story.
Душан Радин I never ever said animals were humans, you moron! I said animals are also children of God. Every living thing; every strand of grass or ant you see are children of God. And news flash, humans ARE animals too. We are not superior or more important than the animals. God loves all his creations equally.
The "I thought we all were the children of God" line never fails to send chills up my spine.

Natalie Abigail Sosa happy birthday?
"Still I see your face and wonder,
Were you once an outcast too?"
Wow. just wow, no words for how deep that was
Very deep if you are lucky to be able to separate history from theology both Mary and her son were treated as outcast by the ones who killed jesus
@@amandaw6951 even when Mary was pregnant with Jesus she probably was outcasted
This is the most beautiful song I've ever heard. Seriously. The best. The people praying for fame or fortune when they never think about others is true. I used to do this. Bett midler version is good too if you have the sound track of hunchback of notre dame it's the last song on the cd
Any person who claims Christianity, listens to this song or watches this movie, and doesn't feel at least a little convicted is either a saint or a Judge Frolo level hypocrite. Most likely the later.
I cried so much at this song . I cried because the lycris are uh i cant explain and the face of hunckback is so pure uh i cant explain...
And then people say Frozen is one of disneys best films. This movie is so much deaper and this song beats let it go by a mile :)
***** I agree entirely. Frozen can't compare to this
Me too, as a child i couldnt understand it but now i cry. Its a song by Mother Theresa cos she wants to help the outcasts from India. Briar Rose not to mention "Lion king" and other hits from 90s.
I find it funny she show more faith than most of people praying and that she somehow knows how to pray the "right" way.
I think that's the point kinda, you know? Like the bishops idea of Godly wasn't even right and Esmeralda, who didn't even know what was "right", and the Hunchback were Godly without following the "rules"
yeah

what happened to disney? ..those old fairytales are epic in every way, but the new ones..meh
im glad i grew up with the old ones
Ditto

Once upon a December from anistaisa that too is now a disany song this one and once upon a December always brings me to tears
Esmeralda's singing made me cry a little. I love the lyrics of the song. :)
I remember listening to this song on repeat for a long time 3 years ago, when I was 11 or 10. Those were the days!
I'm Agnostic. This is how I feel and question things.
One of the most beautiful songs ever made.
This is the sole reason that Esmeralda was my disney inflence growing up...she was as down-to earth as a disney character can get, and never asked for anything except for goodwill towards those less unfortunate... ^_^
God didnt make Outcasts, humans do
12 people have no heart.
Can they not hear the powerful emotion in this song? It's conveying a message...
12 of heartless attacked the dislike button! :0
Now they are 19 Q.Q
They are heartless atheistic satans
***** Exactly!
Woah woah woah lets not go there o_O maybe they didnt like her voice...?
I'm an atheist and I still l love this song
Otto Oddman Your point is?
+Teo Tong Wei he means that while the songs lyrics are about praying to God, as someone who believes in no god he still finds the song meaningful.
I pray God He will bless you, and give you His mercy
same. It's more about humanity than religion.
me too. this song is about humanity and equality. It does not speak out to a single religion, but the whole world.
Ok, so the catholic people may be praying for the wrong things bug time, but u have to agree that they all have beautiful voices.
I love/hate this song... Love how beautiful it is,hate that it makes me cry at the same time..
This has to be one of the greatest and most powerful songs by Disney and definitely a favourite of mine.
That's right people. Stop Hating on us. We're people too.
That comic sans though
😂😂😂
One of Disney's most beautiful songs.
You know the people who ask for wealth fame glory and love are damn selfish, but all Esmeralda wants is protection for her people and even those who are less lucky

I love this movie make me cry...
This song gives me full body shivers, i love it so much
This is my favorite disney song. It's so moving.
This summarizes my life in some strange way
I love this movie make me cry
I love this song so much!
These kind of songs really make you think u know
Quasimodo exists for real and he is Sain Mumtaz. Saw a movie with facial deformities and there was him. Read his story and feel bad for him. Am no longer scared of him. This song would refer to him aswell cos he is real incarnation of Quasimodo and might have gone through the same.

This song is more relevant now than it ever has been. We are a hurting Nation at war within.
The lyrics are simple, yet so beautiful and meaningful :")
I loooove this song so much
I bet Esmeralda can feel the earth with her feet while being connected to Mother Nature.
We'll never get another Disney song like this.

Yeah I saw it!
Mm I dint know if it was the mouse cursor because my movie shows that too.
Don't*
Wow das ist sowas von schön das geht eim zertlich stimme ❤ eine stimme wie ein warer Engel
I love that movie!!!
Amen Esmeralda
One of my new fav Disney songs. I haven't seen this movie in a while and I regret it
Wow, I love this!
Out of curiosity, anyone else notice Cinderella's stepmother at the "I ask for love" line?
I did not realize that was cinderella step mother
This song gives me the feels 😭
Thogh a disany song it's message is true today as well as when it was released
I don't believe in god, but I find this song beautiful. :)
Really beautiful... seems like a message for us from creators.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life". John 3:16💖
Auditioning with this song for Les Mis. Feel they seem similar, pleading and powerful
I have some disney sheet music for this song, and sadly they changed some of my favorite lines. probably to make it so they don't offend people... but still. this song makes me cry everytime i hear it.
If we would ACTUALLY feel like this, and not lie ourselves good, pretending that the prayer is good enough and doing nothing of what we say
No, it is actually the queen from swan princess.
We are god's children.I remember when my mom told me a story about a muslim who did not believe in god so he became sick and a light with a shape of a man the he believed god.Years later his brother became sich too so his brother and his brother's wife prayed to god to make him feel better than he died.He fell in a hole full of monsters he saw himself on the cross beside jesus then birds came to him pecking his eyes then he said that is not him so he prayed to god and arose from thevdead.his brother was very happy so believe that young and old are god's children
a muslim does believe in god...
Wtf
Heidi Mollenhauer is an almost perfect voice match for Demi Moore.
The Broadway musical was SO dark that it made me cry and depressed. I know they used the songs from the Disney animation along with Victor Hugo's book, but I'd rather stick with the animated version. I'm NEVER in the mood for sad endings in an animated film, I've seen enough!

But remeber i am the daughter of paradijon🌸
Trump sent me here BibleThump
But why did God make them the outcast in the first place?
Good point there. But.... doesn't God have the foresight that some people are going to be made outcasts by society? And he could bear to create these souls to be born as outcast and suffer marginalization due to the ignorance of other human beings?
