Just like your previous commenter said you know John Paul Jones he was to master he's like the unsung hero of Led Zeppelin I mean the guy is a terrific bass player and Yeti can play keyboards like a total master and this is the only song I think you'll hear any jazz piano or semblance thereof even one of Jimmy's guitar solos was a little b i t Jazzy imagine me a little teenager Suburban white kid who got ahold of some good weed and getting real high and just bought this album imagine how that affected me let me tell you it was in a very good way my man you just got to trust me on this it was a great combination I never felt so much pleasure from music and when I listen to this album I swear it's so weird I mean there's so much good music that his stuff just hit that magic sweet spot all right brother man
I like the ‘73 live at MSG a lot better. Wasn’t a big fan of the underwater effect when the album came out, and still feel the same way. A good to very good song though, and great live. Way harder rock guitar, stronger and more emotional vocals, and floor shaking organ live.
Have listened to all your LZ reactions and have enjoyed them. Just subbed hoping you'll reactor to LZ more regularly, and that you listen to more songs from their first three albums. Pick any of them, they're all great. ;) Rock on!
This song would become Jonesy's showpiece when performed live. He would improv through a keys solo and add things like bits of classical, jazz, blues...whatever he felt. His performance of this from MSG was great, however, correct video links for it on UA-cam are rare to find and, of course you wouldn't know if it was correct or not until you'd listened/watched and then its too late. As I said, this was Jonesy's showpiece and in the concert movie The Song Remains The Same, the action was supposed to focus on him, but instead, every UA-cam link you find shows a hodge podge of various parts of the movie that have nothing to do with the song and really ruins it (in my opinion). This definitely has a bit of prog-rock feel as they always tried to explore the obscure path of music. Song meanings can be a bit "In the eye of the beholder", so to speak - the meaning you get out of their songs are unique to the individual, the way art should be. Personally, I believe this has a link to Lord Of The Rings (Robert was a huge fan). The "winds of Thor" could also be Mount Thor in Canada and he could be describing the Fellowship of the Ring on their journey across the Misty Mountains where a blizzard and avalanche almost killed them all ("the snow drives back the foot that's slow"). Of course, they're all "wearing steel that's bright and true, and carry news that must get through" meaning the ring must be destroyed in Mordor and, if successful, will "build a dream for me and you" meaning there will be peace without Sauron's evil. Zeppelin music is always transportive.
Henrietta, first of all thanks for giving this a watch and second of all thanks for the insight. To be fair when I ask about the meanings I'm really trying to hear how everyone perceives the song as you said a lot of the Led Zeppelin song means can be a "bit in the eye of the beholder". I'm actually going to relisten with your Lord of the rings take in mind 🤔. Such a good shout!
I think it was when I started listening to reaction videos that I finally understood that LZ is a progressive rock band (in addition to blues, etc.). Anyway, sorry about your YT problems, and I hate to bear bad news (still, it must get through), but I think this one might get blocked too....
It's a viking song. Make no mistake when you read this sentence the members of Led Zeppelin are time travellers. Jimmy Page is so far beyond mind most Zeppelin fans cannot grasp the meaning, it's just rock n roll. Sometimes in life there are things that cannot be communicated, only experienced, like the first perception of God. What is the first realisation of God like? Can you put it into words, can you explain it, can you communicate it and can you remember it? It is impossible, it can only be a personal experience. Jimmy Page operates beyond mind, you have to go there to understand his genius. To go where? To go beyond the limits of our minds, set by design in this life by The One. Older than time itself and controlled by no man, the energy of Led Zeppelin is present in every human being, present in every exploding star and present at the dawn of time.
Best zeppelin song.
What a quality day listening to no quarter by zep
straight banger!
I was watching your expressions waiting for the beat to drop and I knew you were going to love it
Played for 20 minutes or more in concert....a live listen is a must.

This song never gets old
Stone cold righteous in every way! I saw you get that “Zep face” when the heavy stuff kicks in. Magical.
Right on for checking this out, amazing time for music back then
Led Zeppelin will forever be the god’s of rock and roll for me.
I often sing this song to myself when I hike in the Winter (the Snow drives back the foot that's slow). As you said, it pushes me along.
Good music is universal. So cool.
No quarter = no mercy. Love the reactions. 👍

Jones is so underrated as a musician (and he's highly regarded)....In through the out door is a masterpiece.
