Zeppelin was amazing in concert .... Along with Pink Floyd. I spent many a night laying in the floor in my misspent youth staring at ceilings spinning out of control....
Nothing Compares 2 You, written by Prince for Sinead O'Connor. Then Chris Cornell of Soundgarden did a cover when his best friend, Chester Bennington took his own life. Prince DID release his own recording of the song that slaps (of course), but it's only TWO for Tuesday...
I think i speak for most Tool fans when I say don’t bump it down. We know the songs are long. We are here for it!. It will also save you time in editing them
I have heard both of these versions at least a hundred times each and personally I get a bigger rush out of the Zep version even though the Tool is incredible. and since you asked, I found your channel because your second Rush reaction came up in my feed (day of).
I like both version of the song. Tool did a great cover, the first half they paid tribute to Led Zeppelin by sticking to the original, then added a little Tool flavour from about half way. For another 2 for Tuesday do "Whiplash". Metallica's song and then covered by Motorhead.
I heard TOOL'S version before Zeppelin's. When I heard the original I thought, "who are these children covering TOOL'S version?" I kid of course. I grew up to Zeppelin and love the band. Buuut,,,,,

No Quarter was a Medieval times term for No Mercy during battles, I know it was said in Viking battles. The live version of this is really outstanding, FYI: Led Zeppelin did this song before Tool did. Yes it’s different for Led Zeppelin, but that’s the type of band they were, they preform many genres & this I’d say falls under Prog. I personally prefer Led Zeppelin’s version, & especially the live. Tool formed decades later, & I’m quite sure use all the enhancers etc. Led Zeppelin was all pure musical genius. Thanks for your reaction.
Let’s goooo!!!! Haven’t watched yet but I already know it’s gonna be a banger when it’s from my boy Stax🤘🔥🌀! Thank you for sharing your Journey with us friend🤘!
“They ask no quarter.” That means “They ask no mercy.” Imagine somebody who just got their butt kicked in a duel, they are on the floor bleeding. If they ask quarter, they are saying “Please don’t kill me!”
is there any other songs that tool covered & put in their album other than this song? i find it a testament & symbol of respect, regardless of your musical taste between these 2 great bands
Stax, I dont know if anyone has asked for this Cover, but, how about Bob Seger`s "Turn the Page" and Metallica`s Cover of it, or Black Sabbath`s "Children of the Grave" and White Zombie`s Cover it!
Led zeppelin are famously a performance band, if you want to hear their real intent for this track have a listen to the live version from the song remains the same, recorded at the MSG in 1973
Same singer different band cover Bohemian Rhapsody(Queen)-Puscifer Rocketman (Elton John)-Puscifer Imagine (John Lennon)-A Perfect Circle When the Levy Breaks ( Led Zeppelin)- A Perfect Circle
Quarter has a double meaning here, like you caught the mercy part but it also means shelter. There is no shelter from the cold and no mercy for opponents.
The term "No Quarter" comes from ancient combat. During a war/skirmish, it was considered chivalrous to allow for gentlemanly retreats so both sides could regroup and rest. This was called "Quartering". In certain situations when the enemies particularly hated each other, they would allow No Quarter during the combat, not stopping until one side was beaten. It also usually meant that no mercy would be shown if one side yielded.
Military "Quarters" are Barracks where you live / sleep. The order "give no Quarter" literally means to give no shelter to the enemy, in other words "take no prisoners, kill everyone!" This order was made a War Crime but in ancient times if you didn't have enough resources or feared prisoners would attack you, or you were just evil then "give no quarter" was how you fought a battle.
I prefer the original however, in my opinion, Tool's is a well done, respectable cover. To my ear, Tool's sounds like it's coming from the cold, desolate, wastes of outer space, whereas the original sounds like its coming from interdimensional planes of existence. The original is very alluring, enticing, inviting and shiver inducing with hints of secretive promises.
Your comparing led zeppelins studio version of No quarter . To Tools version of No quarter. WRONG. Because Tools version of No quarter is more a cover of Led zeppelin MSG Live version . 2 different songs all together . Thats what made Led Zeppelin so unique
I think no quarter , back in the day, that there was no place to stay or no rooms to stay in. Our constitution mentions our citizens shall not quarter any soldiers, meaning soldiers can not be housed by us.
No Quarter symbolizes unwavering determination and courage. The title is derived from the military practice of showing no mercy to a vanquished opponent, and the lyrics suggest a mission or purpose that must be carried out under challenging circumstances. "No quarter" is a pirate phrase meaning "no mercy." It could also refer to the US Revolutionary War when Great Britain enforced a policy requiring colonial Americans to house British soldiers and offer them food and a bed during the cold of winter. If this policy was refused to a British soldier, this "No Quarter" policy allowed the British soldier to invoke severe punishment (death, sometimes) on the American who refused him. This was only one of the many ways in which Britain attempted to legitimize their treatment of Americans in their effort to interrupt their recapture of the colonies.
specifically it means no prisoners, as in we shall not quarter prisoners and therefore will execute them, and is therefore synonymous with showing no mercy.
This is a cover by both bands. I like both but gotta say tool tooled it up better. I do like that they pay homage to Zep with this as i think tool was influenced by Zep and Floyd, great video.
@@Andy-d4x1m BS I've never heard anything like that about this song. I've been listening to Zeppelin for 50 years, you sound like a troll just trying to stir the pot, and even in some remote way that there are a couple of lyrics that may be similar to some ancient song, who cares
The difference between the two songs, Tool takes a Zeppelin song and makes it sound like a kick ass Tool song, Zeppelin writes one of the best songs ever, and it doesn't sound like any other Zeppelin song. Tools music sounds very similar to each other, you can tell it's them, it has that Tool sound, but don't get me wrong, they have some great music, however with Zeppelin, this song was released in '73, there was no other song that sounded anything like it, with the passion and/or emotion that Zeppelin has in their music, it is on a completely different level. The Tool version may be harder hitting and more current, but if you listen to the live Zeppelin version from '73 MSG, there is no comparison
I prefer Tool's version of this song, by a landslide .There's something hypnotic and mesmerizing about it that the original doesn't have imo. I started watching you for Tool and will stay for Tool. 🌀
i saw Tool perform this live in 97, at Lollapalooza in Dallas TX. before the song Maynard said to the crowd "If you're under 25, we wrote this."
Was working at the ExxonMobil plant in 97' in Dallas ...Like the Tool version ...but LOVE THE LED ZEPPELIN VERSION❤
Funny!!
Zeppelin was amazing in concert .... Along with Pink Floyd. I spent many a night laying in the floor in my misspent youth staring at ceilings spinning out of control....
Zep’s original makes me feel like I’m floating on water. In Tool’s version I am the water.
Zep all the way. Their live renditions of this are epic. Tool great cover
Tool doesn't do many covers but when they do, Tool is gonna Tool
What a great cover from tool. Nuff said
Saw Tool perform this in Mesa Az on Halloween and the band dressed up as Zepplin.
Legendary

In high school in the 80’s No Quarter by Zeppelin was my go to sleep go to. Such a vibe 😴🤘🏼
I can see that for sure

Love the tone of the guitar in the Tool version it actually feels cold like the lyrics are saying.

Also, Tool is best experienced with some assistance from Lucy. Their soundscapes, reverb, drum patterns etc. are something else.
