"One" was released as U2's Achtung Baby album's third single on 24 February 1992 as a benefit single, with all of the band's royalties being donated to different AIDS research organisations for each country in which the single was released. Even Bono admits that Mary took the song to a whole other level!
This song was originally released by U2 in 1992. It’s a break up song. Lyrically amazing. The Mary version is superb but I’ve always preferred the original as it comes across a lot darker, the song takes you on a different journey. Mary does an amazing job and delivers a different version of the song. It’s a very passionate version but I do prefer the darker U2 version from 92 Great review 👌
One of my all time favorite songs (this version with Mary J) and a top 10 greatest collab in my book….probably top five….I LOVE IT! Another great collab you should hear is Hozier with Mavis Staples (another unexpected duo) singing “Nina Cried Power”. ♥️
Sweet God Almighty! I have chills all over. MaryJ Blige, girl, respect. You brought this to a whole new level, sis. Props to U2 for this great song.❤ you all.
You know what hit me the hardest on this great song was Bono just saying Mary's name at the beginning of the song. It just touched my heart. Mary J can not only sing but she is a beautiful woman.
Dude, I get you. but there are two things I love when Bono said Mary at the beginning and then sweet Mary just took off like wild fire. Darlin you took me to a very happy place. You are blessed girl.
You have to check out the live version U2 done from " Slane Castle in Ireland from 2001 taken from the live recording of U2 Go Home which was released on DVD i myself attended the concert with 82'000 adoring fans it's epic "
Have all Mary’s CDs and a few U2. This worked., probably the most Rock thing Mary ever did. It’s joy ❤❤❤ auntie, don’t feel entitled to use the name, thanks for your reaction ❤️👍🏽👍❤️☘️
This reminds me of when the Grammys gets two artists/groups to collaborate for a performance...you're not sure how they're going to fit together, and then they do so to make the night truly special and memorable...iconic even. Absolutely beautiful! I had no idea this version of U2's song even existed... I REALLY want to explore Mary J. Blige's music, but have no idea where the best place is to start. I need her realness, strength, and wisdom in my daily life...any suggestions?
Most people have never heard of Mary J. Blige, but she is a huge artist. She's considered the queen of Hip Hop & Soul. She just recently got voted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame for 2024. She will be inducted along with Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Ozzy Osbourne, Peter Frampton, Foreigner, Kool and the Gang, and A Tribe Called Quest on Oct 19, 2024.
I love Mary J Blige, and she does take this song to a different level, but she also made it a different song and not in a good way, IMHO. Having two brilliant music talents combine doesn't necessarily work, even if their performances are excellent.
I love Mary, but it is a U2 song and they wrote it so how about some cred to them brow? She is amazing on this song for sure, but let's give some credit to the creators of the song. Right?
Son, you need to get there in your life. Peopel do come together and we can all love it other, just like Jesus told us to do. Read your Bible. Good stuff huh?
Eh. The original far surpasses this. The pain and emotion is palpable. I like Mary J a lot. But while this version is good, her vocal acrobatics don’t fit the mood of the song. While impressive as always, it kinda sucks the emotion from the song. The cool thing about U2 is that they have a ton of collaborations, and while most bands would take center stage and let the guest sort of pop in a bit, they let Mary take center stage here. Good on em. Oh and Bono hits those same notes at the end in original as well. :)
The original and this version have completely different meanings. Bono wrote it about his relationship with his father. Mary J sang it about leaving a loveless marriage. If you can’t palpate the emotions in both versions I suggest that you find a different artery sir. Also Bono does not hit a high A key in the original. Mary J has a much higher falsetto range than Bono does. Bono is probably my favorite singer/ songwriter of all time. Mary J is in my top 5. “We’re one but we’re not the same.” Seems self explanatory.
I agree Nian. This is fine, but it doesn't have the same emotional impact of the original. No judgement towards this collaboration, but a personal opinion. The original has me in tears, this doesn't do that for me. The Johnny Cash cover is also extremely powerful
@@leannmiller7153 listen to whatever version you want to, everyday. I seriously don’t care. Until you make the jump over to Patreon this is only version of One that you will hear.

One LOVE. One LIFE. We get to carry each other. ❤
Mary kicks this song into the stratosphere
100% true 🤯
U2 is one of my favorite bands of all time. You have to listen to or watch the music video for New Year's Day and Sunday Bloody Sunday. Iconic
I love this song so so much! But now you HAVE to do just U2 doing their own version. Thanks
Let the man choose
@@spruce381 why can't he do both...
I don't know how I missed this. U2 is one of my favorite pop groups. Mary OWNED this duet. Bono was awesome, as usual, but Mary was on another planet.
U2 is not a pop group
I've been waiting for someone to know this cover for YEARS!!! YEARS!!!

🎼🎼👣 .. what an incredibly written song by U2 .. AND what an incredible performance by Mary J. .. this gave me the goosebumps ! .. 👣🎼🎼

The original by just U2 is still an amazing track. But Mary J most definitely elevates this to another level. So good. Chills every time I hear this.
Awesome song great job Mary sounds terrific and so does U2
You know what hit me the hardest on this great song was Bono just saying Mary's name at the beginning of the song. It just touched my heart. Mary J can not only sing but she is a beautiful woman.
They need to do more songs together great reaction
This song was so good when U2 did it and MJ just elevated an already great song to the heavens. It stays with you a long time after you listen to it.
Glad you enjoyed one of my favorite all time videos!!

“It’s going together like peanut butter and jelly” 😂
Great analogy!
Prayers for your friend Tara 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you very much
Doesn’t get better than that! 🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one getting emotional. Whew damn Mary bringing it
AB, probably my favorite collab of all time. Mary takes this to another place.
One is an original song by U2
Yes. I am aware. Thanks though.
I never heard this song , I love it . Great pairing 🤗🙏❤️

I have watched this so many times. Chills every time. Not a big U2 fan, but throw Mary in the mix, and it’s gold!
Exactly

Mary felt that shit!!
This song was so hard to get ahold of back when it came out in the early 2000s and what is better than a remake with the original band
All I have to say is WOW.
Awesomeness!!
Mary does rock pretty well!
I would expect it why not
Mary operates at genius level, amazing ❤
Another unlikely duo you should check out is Chris Stapleton and SZA. Omg it sounds so good! ❤
Yep, I love unlikely pairings! (Example, Eminem and Elton John at the Grammys)
Omg yes! They are amazing together

She is really good but you should listen to the original with Bono singing the song by himself it has a different feel to it.
It's Mary. Always Mary. The performance is stunning.
This is my favorite version of this song. Love MJB.
I always liked U2 but this is the first time I've heard Mary J. Blige...I love her...❤❤❤

Try BB King and U2, or Kendrick Lamar and U2
The collaboration with BB King is called "When Love Comes to Town". A great rock, blues combo song! Highly recommend it!
she looks good in this id f h

U2 should have Mary join the band! How bout Mary With out without you? Mary pride? Mary Bullet the blue sky?
Mary J on Angel of Harlem would be lethal!
MIZ-

I am not a fan of U2 but a fan of Mary J Blige. I have to say they did an amazing job on this song together and their voices paired nicely.
Please please please react to gawnes song chopper, it's a world record fastest song

Very unfair to U2. Not my favourite band of all time but you just obviously tried to sequent that you never heard of them. Bullshit my friend.
It is fucking U2!!!!!!
