Based on an old Blues classic by Willie Dixon. Early Zep based a lot of their stuff on Delta Blues songs. British bands were like PhD students of American Black Roots music. It was their main inspiration! ❤
Very true! Many English bands back in the sixties and seventies were influenced by American blues from the early 20th century. I'm from Chicago so I have always liked the Blues.
They may have been inspired in their youth, like 15 years old but please tell me where you hear any hint of BLUES from their music? Please tell me since I did see them twice. I must have missed it. Have you?
Great reaction, gents! Zeppelin is the heaviest, most grooving, funkiest hard rock band of all time. They took blues, folk, soul, funk and metal and put it through the Zeppelin blender to make something new. Jimmy Page is one of the greatest of all rock guitarists, composers and producers, and they have the greatest drummer, singer and bass players of all time too. Check out When the Levee Breaks for the best hard rock blues monster ever recorded.
And then that evolved into hard rock and heavy metal. There’s also now an African rock and metal scene, though still largely underground at the moment. See Rash (Kenya) and Skinflint (Botswana) as two stylistically different representatives.

Theses guys were not only masters at their craft but as you could see from the video, they were masters of the stage as well.. Robert Plant was one of the best frontmen in rock …….charisma off the charts…..Jimmy Page played with majesty and swag……Bonham the drummer…..rated one of top two drummers in classic rock…..he was a beast on the kit.
@@donnaholland1625 Indeed…a fantastic multi-faceted musician and arranger as well. But I was specifically speaking of owning the stage…and JPJ was a quiet presence onstage…and off….by his own choice
The thing about Led Zeppelin is that they don't fit so neatly into any one genre. The closest summations I can think of would maybe be "blues rock" or "hard rock", the latter of which is general enough to describe at least half of their output, but ignores the many acoustic songs that, in my opinion, are some of the best stuff they did. I'm a sucker for "That's the Way" and "The Rain Song" in particular. As for "blues rock", that's what they started out as and describes most of the stuff on their first album or two and is something they never really gave up completely throughout their time as a band, but as time went on they put out more and more stuff that went completely outside that box. They did quite a bit of folk inspired stuff and even dabbled in funk and reggae. They also predate the genre of heavy metal, although were one of its most major influences. They're "proto-metal", as I like to put it. They laid a good deal of the foundation without ever really fitting neatly into that mold themselves. The fact that they have a literal heavy metal in their name probably doesn't help with that confusion.
so cool to see people listening to led zeppelin for the first time! they were heavily inspired by blues music so a lot of their music reflects that, but with a rock twist. since i’ve been loving you is another good one by them 🙏
Not really. Their enthusiasm and comments are interesting but they insist on talking over 3/4 of the songs rather than pausing and it is annoying as hell.
For those of you who are somehow not familiar with this genre of UA-cam videos, they exist purely to show a UA-camr's reaction to another piece of content. For example, a new album might come out, and people will just record their first reactions to the album as it plays. 🫠🫠🫠💀💀
@@Desiree.N.M Congratulations on missing the point. Most reactors have the sense to pause the video to share their thoughts then restart. Talking over the song instead just means the listeners can’t hear their comments properly and it means they aren’t listening to the song properly either.

You talked over the song, but it was too low to hear what you said. Thanks for checking out a great band and an epic song!! ⭐️🎶💕👏
Younger folks today go back and want to reclassify the classic hard rock groups as metal. So yeah….younger people will say that Zeppelin was like the first heavy metal band. But they were not. They were a group that was based first and foremost in American Delta and Chicago blues and rockabilly. All the British rock bands of the 60’s and 70’s (except the progressive rock genre) were steeped in blues. Zeppelins first two albums leaned heavily on blues…and then they brought in folk, funk, psychedelia, even reggae and Middle Eastern sounds. To those who really know their catalogue, they are revered for their diversity of genres, for their immense improvisational skills onstage, their great use of dynamics in their music. Add all that to their talent and skills…each one a master….and their incredible stage presence…..and you have the top hard rock band of the 70’s………who also did beautiful acoustic ballads. 😁
I was in High School when this song came out. Can you imagine the impact made on all of us, juniors and seniors? The girls went crazy, everybody and every single high school in the country sang "wanna whole lotta love". Pure rock and roll, nothing to do with heavy metal.
The bands in the 70s, especially English bands, were so into our American blues music and incorporated it into their music. I am so glad I was a teen during the 70s. The best music ever!
My daughter when she was 10 spent with me much time in the car. I use to listen Led Zeppelin in the car. So now she’s fan of zeps even bigger than me . I consider this as my best achievement as a father
This is what music is about. Inspiring people and evolving sounds. All classic rock got their inspiration from soul and blues. They evolved it but they did not steal and copy it. These are real musicians that took time to make this mesmerizing sound.
I had tickets to see them but John Bonham died and the show was canceled. Dang. I did see Robert Plant in concert with SRV as the opener. SRV was better.
You were so lucky to see them, not only once, but three times, I had the chance to see them in St. Louis in either 75 or 76, but I backed out because my mom wouldn't let me go since I lived in Kansas City lol

Almost all of the truly great rock bands were from England. Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd. Throw in Black Sabbath, Queen etc etc. Surprised you ever thought a Zeppelin song would be cringey haha. Id say Zeppelin were the coolest band ever. Great reaction 👍
You guys are awesome and you should know that Zeppelin and Pink Floyd got lots of inspiration from our southern black musicians from back in the day! I believe Zeppelin even re did a song called "When the Levee Breaks " about the floods in Louisiana in the 1920s ! God bless guys!
Mostly ALL musicians find inspiration from other artists! I definitely don't see it as stolen music! It kinda keeps the by gone era of talent and ideas alive!
The incredible thing about Zep, was they came out in the same decade that the Beatles changed rock. They took it to a whole new level. They were so far ahead of their time that they shouldn't have had the massive appeal that they did and do. Truly amazing super group.
I was there. I assure you they very much came out of and were a part of THAT time. The fact that there were a gazillion copiers after them made it seem as though they were @ahead” But they were perfect for the time they were in.
I'm 67. Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Motown, folk singers like Peter Paul and Mary, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Starship, Jimi Hendrix, the Beach Boys, Queen, The Doors- way too many to name here! We had no idea what a gold mine of excellent music we listened to every day!
Loved your take and reaction to my all time favorite. My 11 year old self discovered thrm in 1970 1:43 and the rest is history. The name as I recall came from a comment by a record producer to the idea of Jmmy Page putting together this type group. He said donething to the effect it would go over like a lead zeppelin. A zeppelin being a Ballon airship in WWII
I grew up in Detroit so we had Motown along with everything else. But when I got to college in 1070 and this group showed up, it went through the roof immediately. This group had the big "IT." Stayed at the top for a very long time.
Need to hear the old Blues songs these were created form. They didn't write everything, deep blues singers made the start. I was there when they started, and it was out of this world stuff that took a bit to get up to speed with them.
Great reaction. You can't go wrong with any song when it comes to Led Zeppelin. Remember, these guys were trailblazers. They paved the way for a lot of bands. Led Zeppelin is also the most sampled bands in hip-hop.
These three gentlemen are awesome. It takes guts to go outside your comfort zone and listen to music you don’t know with an an open mind. Thanks for your honesty. Keep it coming.
A little history lesson. Back in the 60s, there was a band called The Yardbirds, featuring guitarists Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck. When Clapton left, Beck recruited studio musician Jimmy Page. In time, the band broke up, but they still had contractual obligations, so Page called in another studio musician by the name of John Paul Jones to play bass. They rounded out the band with Band of Joy singer Robert Plant, and his drummer, John Bonham, and they went under the name the New Yardbirds. Sometime around 1968, The Who drummer, Keith Moon, made a remark that any band formed by Jimmy Page would go over like a lead balloon, thus the band Led Zeppelin was born. Sadly, in 1980, John Bonham died, and Led Zeppelin came to an end. But with it came a new sense of respect for the band, when Robert Plant said that if the remaining members were to continue to tour and record together, they would never do so under the name Led Zeppelin ever again (except special occasions such as Live Aid), because without any member of the original band, it was no longer the same band.
"like a lead balloon" is an old saying to mean something that's sure to fail, so a lead zeppelin (dirigible) would be an even bigger failure. They varied the spelling to be sure people would pronounce it like lead, the heavy metal, not like "leed" meaning "in front".
@jr_gotrocks4796 re-read what I wrote. When the Yardbirds broke up, Peter Grant, their manager, was stuck with contractual obligations and only one band member, Jimmy Page. They then recruited session bassist John Paul Jones and Band of Joy members Robert Plant and John Bonham to fulfill the contracts under the name The New Yardbirds, which was eventually changed to Led Zeppelin.
It is so beautiful how music breaks down barriers and reminds us that we can all enjoy something that unites us. I started loving music as a pure rocker (Led Zep, AC/DC, Van Halen, Scorpions, Rush, etc.) but later also fell in love with Sugar Hill Gang, Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Dr. Dre, Ice-T, Tupac, Biggie, etc. Our common love of music will save us all.
Have loved this music for decades… loved loved the smiles on your faces… the head bobbing…and the enthusiasm of your critique…. And yes it is the funk and blues!!!!
What you guys should do is what other reactors have done recently, which is start at Led Zeppelin 1 and go through their discography. It is 9 albums and 10 discs all together and goes by quick as each disc amazes in its own way. By the time you are done you will understand why millions of fans wear their t-shirts (I still do at 68) still and they will always be popular, they are just great music no matter what. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
Wow,Ollie complimented OUR music. Hard to please was just pleased by an iconic British band. Keep it up fella, there’s more gold in THIS bands catalogue.
Nothing will bring back this kind of music...nothing will bring back this generation's sensation! 60's and 70's Era will live forever in our hearts and mind...and the music that changed the whole perspective of life!
Thing that makes Zep so good is each member brings a great set different tastes and talents…From Pages deep blues and mastery of the recording studio to Plants love of traditional English folk music.
It's hard to judge a band based on just one song. Yeah it's a good song, but it's really the amount of good songs they have, and the diversity of their music that makes this band great. As you go through their catalogue, you will recognize some of their music from movies or through hip hop samples. As with a lot of artists, some of their more popular songs are not their best. I'm pretty sure that the comment section will guide you in the right direction.

Quality is quality.. Also remember hearing 'On The Road Again' by Canned Heat when i was 7 or 8 and thinking it had an adorable and fun sound. Still love that song now
They are the most diverse talented musicians/ band ever...blues funk rock folk...GOATS
Wrong. Jethro Tull way more diverse.
Yeah, they really are one of the incomparable legends.
@@rickmerritt128no way
@@jennifernessling9732 Tull was all of Zeppelin and more. Not sure you are schooled in Jethro Tull.
Based on an old Blues classic by Willie Dixon. Early Zep based a lot of their stuff on Delta Blues songs. British bands were like PhD students of American Black Roots music. It was their main inspiration! ❤
Exactly ! Robert Plant loved Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson and had great admiration for Blues Black American music!
Very true! Many English bands back in the sixties and seventies were influenced by American blues from the early 20th century. I'm from Chicago so I have always liked the Blues.
@@slave2tyranny home of Buddy Guy who Jimi played for before he got big. I bet you’ve seen a lot of great blues acts there.
True David Bowie too
They may have been inspired in their youth, like 15 years old but please tell me where you hear any hint of BLUES from their music? Please tell me since I did see them twice. I must have missed it. Have you?
Great reaction, gents! Zeppelin is the heaviest, most grooving, funkiest hard rock band of all time. They took blues, folk, soul, funk and metal and put it through the Zeppelin blender to make something new. Jimmy Page is one of the greatest of all rock guitarists, composers and producers, and they have the greatest drummer, singer and bass players of all time too. Check out When the Levee Breaks for the best hard rock blues monster ever recorded.
Led Zeppelin does not

Best drummer ever John Bonham
This song is often considered to be the best riff in rock.
It is the best guitar riff of all time. Over half a century and it hasn't been bettered. Probably never will.
Wrong
Idk about best but it's the sexiest imo.
@@jamesaron1967Bruh it’s not even Zeppelins best riff lol
@@Childofbhaal Your opinion
Always fun (as a 50+ year old lady) seeing you guys realise that this was pure blues rock totally inspired by the black music from the 50's
And then that evolved into hard rock and heavy metal. There’s also now an African rock and metal scene, though still largely underground at the moment. See Rash (Kenya) and Skinflint (Botswana) as two stylistically different representatives.
And Delta blues from the early 20th century
Great reaction guys. If you like the blues, here are the Led Zep songs you need to try out: The Lemon Song, You Shook Me, Dazed and Confused, Since I've been Loving You, Traveling Riverside Blues, Bring it on Home, How Many more times, When the Levee Breaks. There are more but that would be a great start.
Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, In My Time of Dying

Check out Moby dick they let the drummer go on this because stairway didn't feature a lot of drums
And maybe In my Time Of Dying.
I was lucky to see them live!
The greatest band to ever exist.. every member is considered in the top, if not the very top at the instruments they play.
Along with Pink Floyd. Both trend setters.

Don’t forget about John Paul John’s who could play ANYTHING

Led Zepplin ruled the world throughout my junior and senior high school years. They are true Rock Gods.
When I heard this for the first time in '68 I finally saw the difference between the boys and the men. 😎
Hey, you guys, 64 yr old woman here, saw Led Zeppelin in 1975. Love watching you!
These are the Holy Grail of Rock. The songs are amazing. The best rock band all time.
Everyone who hasn't heard Led Zeppelin expects to hear a head banging heavy metal band but instead Zeppelin delivers unparalleled and unexpected funk.
You got it dude❤
If I remember right, we called it "progressive rock" (progrock) back then.
so cool to see people listening to led zeppelin for the first time! they were heavily inspired by blues music so a lot of their music reflects that, but with a rock twist. since i’ve been loving you is another good one by them 🙏
Yes! "Since I've been Loving You", live in Madison Sqaure Garden
Yes indeed!🎶💯
@@Desiree.N.M Congratulations on
missing the point. Most reactors have the sense to pause the video to share their thoughts then restart. Talking over the song instead just means the listeners can’t hear their comments properly and it means they aren’t listening to the song properly either.
The hot blonde singer is Robert Plant! What a beautiful manly man! Wow!! His voice is amazing! “ I’m gonna give you every inch of my love.. a gotta a whole lotta love”! Yea, baby! Cool reaction! You talked over the song, but it was too low to hear what you said. Thanks for checking out a great band and an epic song!! ⭐️🎶💕👏
Best Band ever ❤️ ♥️ 💖 next to Pink Floyd I was there 😊😊😊 they were influenced by old Blues music
Best band ever! Each member is a GOAT in their respective areas.
I was in High School when this song came out. Can you imagine the impact made on all of us, juniors and seniors? The girls went crazy, everybody and every single high school in the country sang "wanna whole lotta love". Pure rock and roll, nothing to do with heavy metal.
For this genre, 4 guys with massive talent that totally meshed together.
Four great individual talents
Collectively incredible
You don't forget them
The bands in the 70s, especially English bands, were so into our American blues music and incorporated it into their music. I am so glad I was a teen during the 70s. The best music ever!
73 & feel the same. Live shows were slamming
John Bonham was by far one of the best drummers of all time. I saw them in 1973 in Jacksonville FL and 1977 at the Omni in Atlanta.
Greatest band in HISTORY! Check out their live performances!! 4 most talented musicians to ever grace the planet!
Yes. Greatest ever and it’s not even close.
Last year on my 19th birthday, I bought my first car, a 1973 VW bug because of their 1973 MSG concert. Love Zeppelin to bits, long live rock 'n roll!

This is what music is about. Inspiring people and evolving sounds. All classic rock got their inspiration from soul and blues. They evolved it but they did not steal and copy it. These are real musicians that took time to make this mesmerizing sound.
Nice! The Lemon Song is some raunchy blues from them ✌️
Real instruments, real vocals -- I'm all for it.
I saw them three times in the 70’s. They were the Best I ever seen in Concert!!🎸🎶🤙🏽👍🏽😎

You guys are awesome and you should know that Zeppelin and Pink Floyd got lots of inspiration from our southern black musicians from back in the day! I believe Zeppelin even re did a song called "When the Levee Breaks " about the floods in Louisiana in the 1920s ! God bless guys!
Zeppelin yes. Floyd.NOOoooooo. Find me a Floyd song based on blues and I’ll apologize.
@@w.geoffreyspaulding6588 Too bad Pink Anderson and Floyd Council aren't around any longer to answer that question.
You mean Led Zeppelin stole music from the black blues artists that came before them. Don’t believe me, research Willie Dixon.
Greatest rock band EVER- and will always be. So much soul. Some of their songs are remakes of old blues songs- totally elevated.
They were greatly influenced by southern blues. They did a lot of Blues/Rock. Try "I Can't Quit You Baby"
Imo, best rock group of all time
A little history lesson.
Moon named the band? That adds another layer to things. Thanks for the info!
"like a lead balloon" is an old saying to mean something that's sure to fail, so a lead zeppelin (dirigible) would be an even bigger failure. They varied the spelling to be sure people would pronounce it like lead, the heavy metal, not like "leed" meaning "in front".
Pretty sure Plant and Bonham were never in the yardbirds
@jr_gotrocks4796 re-read what I wrote. When the Yardbirds broke up, Peter Grant, their manager, was stuck with contractual obligations and only one band member, Jimmy Page. They then recruited session bassist John Paul Jones and Band of Joy members Robert Plant and John Bonham to fulfill the contracts under the name The New Yardbirds, which was eventually changed to Led Zeppelin.
Led Zeppelin greatest rock band of all time!
Well said!
Led Zeppelin really makes you pay attention to how they blended ALL the music they heard into something positive and awesome.
Have loved this music for decades… loved loved the smiles on your faces… the head bobbing…and the enthusiasm of your critique…. And yes it is the funk and blues!!!!
Unarguably one of the best music groups of any genre in history. With a crazy long catalog. They never missed really… legends
All true.
Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
And always wear headphones for this era of music. This song especially, there is a lot of nuance lost without headphones.

One of the most influential rock drummers and guitarists right there
It's hard to judge a band based on just one song.
You hit the nail on the head, it's amazing how many great songs they truly have, no other band or artist comes close
