Well, this is indeed a small but much more useful thing/habit. It helps you to memorize names with faces. I always have a problem remembering new people's names but repeating it after them helps a lot. Also, it really makes you more sympathetic and thoughtful in their eyes. 🙂

I've been working regularly in the Hamptons for the past twelve years, so I was wondering what happened with Finn McCool's. Turns out that Buddy sold the place after two years, but the new owners shut down three years later, due to a problem with the lease. Buddy passed away in 2023, and Brian works as an Executive Chef at a seafood restaurant in Quogue. Crazy part is: the 1 Star reviews for Brian's current restaurant has more drama in them than ANY minute of this episode -- but none of it's Brian's fault, but rather the owner of that establishment. It's all a real shame, but it's good to know that Brian is still keeping things going as a chef. Hoping the rest of the family is doing well.

Buddy suffered a heart attack and by 2009 he had to sell up mccools :( The family still worked there until the restaurant closed in 2012. Brian and a childhood friend opened up a new restaurant called shutters and Buddy went back to his career roots becoming a PI... hope his debt doesn’t catch him for chasing his dreams, seems like too nice of a gentleman.
Hes good now, I looked up his linkedin. He's a private investigator now and he has a phd in criminal justice/police science. He was also a detective for 21 years before opening the resturant.

Genuinely one of the best episodes with probably the most heartwarming family/staff. It breaks my heart to know that the restaurant closed down and that Buddy, who seemed so down to earth and full of humour, passed away in 2023 before GR could re-visit. Rest in Peace Buddy
That was cool to see. It's always great to see how Gordon can take someone who is maybe a bit misguided and naive, and bring out their potential. I genuinely feel that Gordon actually cares for the people in his shows. He didn't have to redesign, he didn't have to get them the sign, but he did because he actually cares. He made someone want to cook again!!! He reunited a family! The persona that he puts on is not what he actually is, he's a nice person!

Finn McCool's stayed open and was successful for two years until 2009, when Buddy's health began to decline. The restaurant stayed Finn McCool's until 2012, until it was closed by the new owners. Sadly Buddy past away January 11th of 2023 due to numerous health issues at the age of 69. May he rest in peace.
I absolutely love the character growth the chef had. He went from being ignorant and arrogant to open minded and humble and good at his job. All he needed was a little bit of understanding and love. Im proud of him for growing soo much! This was definitely a very wholesome episode.
So true! I was at the edge of my seat while watching this about 50 minute show, and I was like "Brian, you got to stay on your toes man." When Rasmay was giving him his "pep-talk" and I was so surprised on how the tables have positively turned! And the two months update made me feel so good about them and it was indeed *very wholesome.*
He wasn't ignorant and arrogant he was simply in an overwhelming dead end for which he was getting blamed and yelled at and reacted by saying something stupid out of frustration. This chef was doing an admirable job even before Ramsey got there IF we consider his circumstances. It is simply not possible to maintain a full menu of fresh food without costumers. You have to cut corners or reduce the menu to a laughable size of say 5 dishes. You do the second you may as well close it. You have no idea how incredibly difficult it is to prepare ten meals from scratch, by yourself in a respectable amount of time, with fresh ingredients. Let alone 20 or 30 meals this man would have been called to prepare from time to time. How you do that with only one assistant who is clearly both slow and incompetent? Your only option is to cut corners, and sacrifice ingredient quality and freshness in return for faster and easier preparation. Only thing he could have done better was work on his recipes more.

Here's my explanation. Some these people actually do believe their food is great, and they signed up to the show for some free renovation and free publicity. They lack self-awareness. Then again, so many people lack self-awareness.
My fav lines are "he doesn't know what he's talking about.. why would i listen to him." Hes bloody Gordon Ramsey, his name is saved on autocorrect buddy.
Honestly the whole family seemed to really care for each other, Brian was rough to begin with but it was obvious he also cared by the end. It was also obvious how much some of the family appreciated the whole thing.
There's a reason why food critics usually use aliases (and sometimes disguises)/have their face hidden in the portraits that accompany their columns, and it's so that they can get an accurate picture of what the restaurant and food is normally like; the critic can be reasonably sure that they weren't just getting special treatment if they end up having a great experience and readers can look forward to equally great treatment if they choose to go. I don't think I've ever seen a food critic tell a restaurant up front that they are a critic before demanding special treatment/dangle the prospect of a good review in order to get their way ("Do you even need a review?")

Crazy part is: the 1 Star reviews for Brian's current restaurant has more drama in them than ANY minute of this episode -- but none of it's Brian's fault, but rather the owner of that establishment.
It's all a real shame, but it's good to know that Brian is still keeping things going as a chef. Hoping the rest of the family is doing well.

Buddy suffered a heart attack and by 2009 he had to sell up mccools :( The family still worked there until the restaurant closed in 2012. Brian and a childhood friend opened up a new restaurant called shutters and Buddy went back to his career roots becoming a PI... hope his debt doesn’t catch him for chasing his dreams, seems like too nice of a gentleman.

I genuinely feel that Gordon actually cares for the people in his shows. He didn't have to redesign, he didn't have to get them the sign, but he did because he actually cares. I absolutely love the character growth the chef had. He went from being ignorant and arrogant to open minded and humble and good at his job. All he needed was a little bit of understanding and love. Im proud of him for growing soo much! This was definitely a very wholesome episode.
So true! I was at the edge of my seat while watching this about 50 minute show, and I was like "Brian, you got to stay on your toes man." When Rasmay was giving him his "pep-talk" and I was so surprised on how the tables have positively turned! And the two months update made me feel so good about them and it was indeed *very wholesome.*
He wasn't ignorant and arrogant he was simply in an overwhelming dead end for which he was getting blamed and yelled at and reacted by saying something stupid out of frustration. This chef was doing an admirable job even before Ramsey got there IF we consider his circumstances. It is simply not possible to maintain a full menu of fresh food without costumers. You have to cut corners or reduce the menu to a laughable size of say 5 dishes. You do the second you may as well close it.
You have no idea how incredibly difficult it is to prepare ten meals from scratch, by yourself in a respectable amount of time, with fresh ingredients. Let alone 20 or 30 meals this man would have been called to prepare from time to time. How you do that with only one assistant who is clearly both slow and incompetent? Your only option is to cut corners, and sacrifice ingredient quality and freshness in return for faster and easier preparation. Only thing he could have done better was work on his recipes more.

I don't think I've ever seen a food critic tell a restaurant up front that they are a critic before demanding special treatment/dangle the prospect of a good review in order to get their way ("Do you even need a review?")
some kind of a self proclaimed critic she was, so self-important and arrogant 🙄 just made want to tell her to get off of her high horse
