Why did you choose to bike for the trapinch instead of getting rare candies, when you could have simply done both and collected it at the perfect level to use the collected candies?
4:50 "...this takes the world record an hour and 20 minutes past Goldenrod." I played Gold and Silver way back in the day, but don't know anything about speed running. Can someone explain to me what this sentence meant?

It's so funny as I thought I had fixed my Ice video mistake by noticing a trade option that could beat the expected route, yet that pokemon was already right in front of me. 🤣 Can you tell I had never played USUM before starting the series. 😆 Thanks for watching and catching this!!!
I'd never forget the Verdant Cavern spawns. Got a shiny Noibat there by pure luck, and it went in with a mere Beast Ball on Turn 1. Still use it to this day.
I went into this video thinking it'd just be an explanation of the earliest a dragon type can be caught in a casual run, I didn't expect this speedrun format at all.
Good ol' cliff skipping. I reckon a good challenge will be to see how fast it is to catch a Magnemite in each game since I'm pretty sure they're in every game like Psyduck.
For an april's fools joke, he should do a "how quickly can you get a Glameow" or something, a Pokémon exactly available in (shining) pearl, hidden grottos in W2, and mirage spots, and LA. Infamously one of the most unavailable pokémon, ever. Less meme-y, would be fun to do a "how fast can you get a dog/cat/mouse pokémon in each game" or something, which is more varied.
About the Trapinch daycare, wouldn't you also shave off some time while hunting the rare candies? If you catch it before going to get Surf and collect candies, you would still gain exp while doing all of those things, right? Or did you already calculate those in and I just missed it?
Thanks a bunch for bringing this up! I went back and forth on including this but wasn't quite able to find a good way to incorporate this and felt it might further confuse people. Quick Answer: The trapinch is always in the daycare during this and that does mean the 'surf candy' route will always be very close and potentially beat the bike route, but that's only if you have WR level luck on those strats. SO, originally, I had routed the 'surf for candies' strat without the final candy near the abandoned ship (not realizing it was quick to obtain). In this case, the final time difference is about 2 minutes slower (instead of the final 30 seconds shown). I had the same thought as you from the start, do we need to worry about the traveling of game progression. With 2 minutes being the difference, we certainly wouldn't, but with the final 30 seconds (~430 exp by our rate) we probably do. However, what I would have explained in this section is that I am using an unrealistic comparison for the gym 5 section. That portion requires item prep and is much more difficult when you don't have a perfect starter (which we don't do for these runs). Thus, you are more than likely to lose additional time going this route than what is shown. So I felt it was proper to chose the biking route given the constraints we follow for these runs. :D Hope that helps! Thanks a ton paying so much attention to the details! :)
I actually wondered about Pick Up. Catch 6 Zigzagoon and make 1 your main to level it up. Higher level Zigzagoon increases candy pick up rates after battle, at least on Emerald. In R/S there is a flat 10% candy rate after every battle and with 6 Zigzagoon that's 46.9% (technically). There surely has to be a way to save time like this
Dear God that Gen 2 game corner part was absurd, you were right about that lol. Anyway, nice video as always. This went about as I expected... Dragon types can be a doozie.
LOL you knew it! ;) Thank you as always for the support Gordon!!! I had no idea how hard this one would be, but I was excited to share the journey with everyone!!!
Sadly no! If you watch the footage closely, you can see that the game will always cheat you out of a 7 if you don't have the bias! You can see it very quickly in the video or give it a shot yourself. XD
I will say, in ScarVio, you can catch an Applin in South Province Area 1, however the odds of finding one are astronomically low, at least in my experience, especially since you have to spot it hanging in a bloody tree. And it tiny.
It wasn't until this video that I learned that this particular slot machine in the gen 2 games can actually be unoccupied. I must have played through those games over 40 times but apparently I never went to the casino early enough to witness this NPC being gone.
This is a good catch, thank you! At bare minimum, it would let us skip the spearow related reward (guessing this is the slowest single ~5k item) and might save around a minute or so if I had to guess (traveling is slower at this point since we don't have the bike). :)
I never knew how much you could optimise the loot in Red/Blue to get a Dratini. I came for a filler video while i was waiting the pasta to boil, but it was actually very useful, thank you! 💪🏻
Interesting how despite the title, remakes (HGSS namely) weren't included - you can arguably find a dragon type the fastest in those games via the pokewalker, one of those routes has a dratini, and one of the downloadable event courses includes a horsea with it's evo item.
Trainer: I am NOT sitting here for ages spinning slots for a free Dratini! I'm just gonna pay for it outright! Casino Clerk: But that's like $55,000... Trainer: SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! Clerk: $$$
I think there might be potential to get a dragon type sooner in OR/AS than the original games. Since you have to beat Flannery to get Trapinch anyway and evolving Trapinch takes 20 minutes, it might be possible to get your rival to escort you to Petalburg, blitz through Norman's gym, and grab the gift Lati twin within that time. Also you shave off time by not needing to seek out Trapinch in the first place.
bagon being on the first route in SV is just going against my gen 3 mind. you supposed to be a in one room after the 8th gym mon, they did the same thing in X and Y and sun and moon. they become so accessible
There's a guaranteed Goomy spawn in the swap in Scarlet and Violet. I'm pretty sure you can make your way over there without needed to do any skips since in my first play through I went over there for Watrel early on. Not 100% certain about that, but it should be checked out none the less. There's also a Garchomp near Larry's gym that is a guaranteed spawn. I don't know if either would be faster to get, but they're options.
İ assume red time can be faster by losing on purpose to rocket member on nugget bridge since he gives one at the start of every fight and losing the fight gives you another again

For Axew in X and Y, you can also get it at a 5% chance in a horde encounter. With Horde Encounters, you could force them via Sweet Scent or Honey. Being able to force encounters like that, even with the lowered percentage, I feel like this method would have been a faster way to get to that Axew
Honestly, I'm surprised there isn't an early dragon gym at this point, considering how many early pokemon are fairy type nowadays (looking at you, marill)
Wait, it really is faster to speedrun until the traded Noibat instead of just catching a Noibat in the verdant cavern like, immediately after the first trial in USUM?😮 daamn, USUM is SLOW.
in gen 1 you can use nugget bridge cheat as you keep losing to team rocket grant to obtain nugget each time you back to him, also you didnt mention in fire red and leaf green you can grab tons of money by using vseeker on the cycling road with the bikers and amulet coin on Persian payday make it more
i'm curious what hgss would look like in this challenge. you can't buy game corner points, but voltorb flip seems like a much more fair hurdle, and the later levels can be stupid profitable.
Best feeling is when you spend ur time in route 3 pokemon USUM just want to find bagon. If you can, trade a pokemon with friend while ur pokemon friend holding adrenaline orb. Viola you will get very low lvl salamence in sos battle before fighting kahuna Hala. Truly best feeling ❤
I'm pretty sure this is slower in terms of getting a dragon because it's a bit later into the games but in B2/W2 you can actually find Trapinch a level 32-34 outside the cave in the grass at Reversal Mountain. I know this because Flygon is my favorite Dragon-Type Pokemon and I had one on my first playthrough of B2/W2. I got really lucky and just happened to encounter one at level 34. One level and bam, Vibrava! If you want Flygon on your B2/W2 playthrough this is the better place to catch one since its moves are still great and it's easy to evolve.
I think you should also do the other remakes, not just Let's Go, because some of them changed thins quite a bit and it would be fun to see if it's faster or slower to get Dragon type in them. But as a Dark type fan, I am surely looking and hoping that you will do a Dark type version of this video. That would be fun for me.
Scarlet and Violet are pretty interesting when it comes to dragon types. Most of them, including Cyclizar can be encountered very early in the game, provided you're willing to break the game a little. You could have a full team of dragons before the first gym.
I never knew that about Gen 2's game corner. Well no wonder they removed it in the remakes. This video is actually pretty useful for my non randomizer runs. I always feel like you never really get to use the dragons without having to rearrange your team and grind.
you forget that in ruby and saphire pickup can give rare candy at any level. so if we take one pokemon for fighting and 5 zigzagoon, we can stack up enough rare candy to evolve trapinch immediatly
Late, but the shadow Pokémon games make the dragon type decently available. Colosseum let’s you catch a Swablu in the first dungeon of the game which can evolve pretty soon after if you play your cards right, and Gale of Darkness lets you get Trapinch on rare occasions in the early game if your lucky enough. Trapinch is a pain to evolve up to Vibrava in that game though.
In Gen 3 you can have a 5 stack of zigzagoon in your party and they will collect items such as ultra balls, nuggets and rare candies which could shorten the grinding of levels in that gen. (probided you are playingin ruby or sapphire)
Regarding the gen 3 games, wouldn’t it be fastest to put the trapinch in the daycare and then grab some of the surf candies while it still passively levels up from the movement to the candies? Or would the steps taken to grab all those candies be too insignificant to matter?
I'd like to see fire types excluding the starter, I think there's something there. Maybe fighting types too. I think so of them would be within 10-20 minutes but some game would require you to play like halfway through or more
You reading the title of this I didn’t think it should be 31 minutes long until he started to show how “fast” to get them which I feel like he didn’t have to
I have a question…what if you dropped off Trapinch at the daycare and then started gathering candies? Would the extra steps being used to level up Trapinch help knock off some time from the fetch quest?
Please someone direct me to this video if he’s made it, but i feel like another great concept for this is how fast can you get a fully evolved Pokémon in each game. I feel like the route 1 rodents would dominate this list, but what about Pokémon that don’t evolve? Are Pokémon that are a single stage in their line, such as Lapras, kangaskhan, pinsir herracros, luvdisc, shukle, taurus, druddigon etc? Do Pokémon that don’t have prevolutions or evolutions count as fully evolved? Could put a nice twist on the run
For leveling trapinch, could it be placed in the daycare after getting it so the time spent getting candies is time spent gaining XP? In theory the only time that isn't recouped is the few seconds you can't move when picking up candies, activating surf, and fighting mandatory battles.
Quick question, for gen 3 why are you factoring those first 3 candies seperately when the other 7 are bundled? Also, couldnt you switch the script on the debatable one by putting that as the last level and the other that took "seconds" as the second to last?

Consider me subbed. Keep it up, my guy.
Thanks a ton for the kind words and support, glad you enjoyed!! 😊
"Overpowered" Is subjective
Hey man, I was wondering how you capture your footage during your monologue. All the anime clips and game clips etc.
Your video is very well edited.
i'm curious what hgss would look like in this challenge. you can't buy game corner points, but voltorb flip seems like a much more fair hurdle, and the later levels can be stupid profitable.
Absolute top tier music choices.
I caught dreepy within the first like 20 minutes in Violet at night when first playing casually
Bro in ultra sun and moon you can catch noibat immediately after the first trial you don't need to go to route 5 and trade you can just catch it there
29:48 THE ONE PIECE, THE ONE PIECE IS REAL
That would be fun for me.
i wasn't expecting rivals music in a pokemon vid, but i dig it
Scarlet and Violet are pretty interesting when it comes to dragon types.
I think how quickly you can get a pseudo legendary would be a fun video
I didn't realize in sun that you can get bagon on the first island, nabbed that bad boy real quick
you forget that in ruby and saphire pickup can give rare candy at any level. so if we take one pokemon for fighting and 5 zigzagoon, we can stack up enough rare candy to evolve trapinch immediatly
really like this type of videos, i don't usually comment videos but here's my attempt of showing appreciation to a creator 😅
That means a ton and helps support my work, thanks a bunch! 😊
in ruby and sapphire you should use zigzagoons for pickup to spam farm rare candies you usually get 1-2 candies per 4-5 killed mob with 5 zigzagoons.
These are so randomly fun to watch!! Great, great work!
For gen 3 fill in any empty spaces in your party with pickup zigzagoons to farm rare candies
In Gen 3 you can have a 5 stack of zigzagoon in your party and they will collect items such as ultra balls, nuggets and rare candies which could shorten the grinding of levels in that gen. (probided you are playingin ruby or sapphire)
"Catchin' Goons" 😂 shi funny for no reason
29:00 Thats how i got my lvl44 Gabite before the first day of school
Regarding the gen 3 games, wouldn’t it be fastest to put the trapinch in the daycare and then grab some of the surf candies while it still passively levels up from the movement to the candies? Or would the steps taken to grab all those candies be too insignificant to matter?
I'd like to see fire types excluding the starter, I think there's something there. Maybe fighting types too. I think so of them would be within 10-20 minutes but some game would require you to play like halfway through or more
About the thing with the Bulbapedia pages, the SV encounter tables there are auto-generated, and a lot of them haven't been fixed by editors.
You reading the title of this I didn’t think it should be 31 minutes long until he started to show how “fast” to get them which I feel like he didn’t have to
I have a question…what if you dropped off Trapinch at the daycare and then started gathering candies? Would the extra steps being used to level up Trapinch help knock off some time from the fetch quest?
u using the rivals of aether ost made me so happy me and my bro used to play all the time i heard the music and was like hey wait amin ik this!!!!
*I get wanting a challenge but technically Koraidon/Miraidon is the earliest dragon you technically can get ahold of*
For leveling trapinch, could it be placed in the daycare after getting it so the time spent getting candies is time spent gaining XP? In theory the only time that isn't recouped is the few seconds you can't move when picking up candies, activating surf, and fighting mandatory battles.
in usum's verdant cavern, you can encounter a noibat immediately after Illima's trial
Insert the Chad zigzagoone pickup rare candy in gen 3 😂
in ADV, couldn't you go grab the rare candies while biking/walking to continue getting exp?
I remember shouting "I am the 1%" when I was a kid and got him while just exploring the grass beginning the game.
Holy Pansear hair, a Vibrava in the thumbnail sure got my click fast!
Quick question, for gen 3 why are you factoring those first 3 candies seperately when the other 7 are bundled? Also, couldnt you switch the script on the debatable one by putting that as the last level and the other that took "seconds" as the second to last?
"Their mythical inspirations"
Shows the ones based on airplanes
I remember asking for this video in the comments months ago! :O
(in the Eeveelutions vid iirc)
