Re: the injectors being "too big" and not being "accurate enough", people run fucking carburetors which are like toilet bowls pissing down an intake, of course the big injectors are fine. They could probably have like 4 different duty cycles over the whole map and run just fine.
We put some 862 heads on a 6.0 that already had a SS2 and it was a night and day difference with response and overall power compared to the 317s. At certain power levels compression is more important than airflow
I'm staying glued to this. I don't have a 6.0 I have a 4.8 but I like the simple additions that makes reliable power. GM engineered parts were designed to go the distance. Why not save money and use them! Love your videos. You should sell "sloppy gear", I'd love a flex fit hat!
I tried looking for a 200ish 2500 with the 6 liter and couldn't find anything cheap. The cheapest one I saw had 250000 miles and leaked oil and had a few electrical problems. The guy wanted $4000 for it. I almost got it but I ended up buying something more expensive and newer.
Incredible, engine has all kinds of fail - toss it back together with some of Matt's famous blood diamond pistons... makes good power. I have a newer LQ4/80E in my 1/2 ton, swapping to a set of 799s soon. It made OK power on 87 with a small cam, hoping the heads and switch to 93 octane is going to make me stop modding my daily.
My lq4 with 862 heads, ss2 cam, pac 1218 springs, flex injectors but on pump gas, long tubes, high flow cats, and bullet mufflers made 375 rwhp... Ran an 8.23 at 85 mph with a crappy 1.869 60ft (first shake down pass.) The 2nd pass I left pretty hard and broke the rearend, but it shouldn't have any problems running high 7's in the 1/8, mid'ish 12's in the 1/4... all in a c1500 truck.... Picking up another rearend tomorrow, will get it back to the track when we get some decent weather.
Why do all of the turbo forum guys go apoplectic when you mention using T04 7875 from Summit a 400 ci FE that makes 445 hp at the flywheel ? Is it that bad ? They recommended a T06 volute and a huge turbo that costs $900, I just want 700 rwhp? I don’t know if anyone is familiar with the FE but I want to reverse two passenger side log and I mean flat logs and 2.5 crossover in front of the engine to where the battery goes (it is going to the trunk) and run a 4 inch exhaust down pipe to a split Y with a pair of 3 inch pipes that both exit in front of the rear tire with a pair of short 3 inch resonators staggered in so it all fits. I thought it was a good plan. I want 6200-6400 rpms and I have a 3000 stall converter and a C6. 1965 Galaxie. The FE is similar in many ways to the LS. It came with a 3.784 stroke iron crank 5140 forged steel rods, and I have 4032 forged pistons. The cam is a 224@.050 .540 lift 110 LSA solid. I can tune the lash a bit to say a 224/227 split, but the intake flows 264/185 exhaust. Single pattern should be all right and as the FE used the intake manifold for half the head it flows 260 through the intake manifold tract. Not bad especially for boost.
Still dunno why people buy 1500 2wd shortbeds and are like yea I'm gonna swap a 6.0, 4L80, etc. When you can buy work truck 2500 2wd (6.0, 4L80, big diff) for under 2k everywhere. If you dont want the big tool box bed that they have on there you can usually sell and make $. Myself I would let the tool box bed on there and make a super sleeper.
This makes me feel much better about my all motor build. I hear so much of people claiming their bolt on engine made 450 rear wheel easy, while my moderately built engine struggles to make 400 wheel.
I just put 243s on my lq9. 1999 sierra z71 TSP cam 222/226 112 low lift pac 1219s with SEP 1000cc injectors and 1 7/8 headers. Still waiting on RM performance on my turbo log but I already have my billet 78/75 and intercooler kit from VS racing. This 6.0 NA is awesome so far can't wait for 600 to 800 tire. Thanks Matt for all the info you've shared over the years.
No heads only data right? Sounds like the heads and cam happened at the same time. Would be interesting to see just how much of that gain (if any) was the head swap. Pretty much all of the LS heads are good stuff. Cams are the power choke point it seems
Typical is 20% loss with an auto and 12% with a stick. I like grabbing gears like Trump grabs pussy but when it comes to racing you'll be hard pressed to beat a properly set up automatic.
Recently with hp tuners I've had my map stop reading after 105kpa and basically nothing I have done has changed anything it just occasionally fucks up for some reason. Guess I'm not the only one having random bs issues lol I'm very interested in seeing your tune on those Injectors to compare with my 100lb tune. Keep on keepin on Matt!
@@CarTechTexas Stock N/A for 400 rwhp especially for a truck the best heads you can put . Don't listen to the internet plenty of magazine tests have proved them to the best for a mild LS setup. Beating the 243s as well.
Would love a spread sheep with part numbers and price cuz i definitely will be doing this in the future. Have a gmc 2500hd that would be perfect for this it is 4wd tho. Any idea how much power you lose through a t case?
Good to see that the torque didn’t fall on its face down low with the cam swap so you can still use it as a truck, a lot of times you see aftermarket cam and head swap that picks up 100 horse up high, but looses 50 to 75 foot pounds of torque off ide to 2500 rpm where the vehicles live most of their lives, so in reality unless you hold it by the neck every shift the vehicle is slower day to day, and with a truck it’s worse and won’t tow for crap anymore
THOSE GROM GUYS stall converter is the biggest thing to me. Stock you will likely be fighting it. Other than that good idle tuning, correct fueling, and getting the idle spark nice and smooth
Depends on the car and setup sometimes fatter air fuel or messing with idle spark and or over speed and under speed tables to stabilize in and out of gear, flattening and fattening that portion of the VE table and or commanding pe at idle speeds to hold a 12.5 instead of letting o2’s trim to 14.7
Usually a surge is from timing. Make all your timing below 1200rpm the same. 15-18 degrees. Try that first. If that works, blend it in. If that don’t work but it gets better, leave it and figure out what kpa you idle at. Then make all the adjacent cells the same. That may fix it. Then blend it.
My truck has a sloppy stage 1 220/224 and a 4k stall on E85 and the tune is almost perfect except fo the surge and the occasional stalling while pulling in a spot or making a k turn
So I'll be the one to ask i guess, would this be a pretty good towing setup, or would less cam work better? Turbo either way, because I'm planning on something like this to haul the toys around
Thanks for replying so quick mate I got a 5.7 ls1 with a cam n springs I think the heads have slightly been cleaned up too had a chat with the mechanics that worked on the car but unknown specs cause I bought donk as a low k wrecker motor I got a Walbro 460 in tank so basically fill her up with e85 and a tune is all I need to do yeah
I have the Summit 8718 torque cam going in a 5.3 with 706 heads that’s going in my 1990 k1500. I chose this cam because I wanted low end torque for off roading and towing.
Sup sloppy. Just wondering if there’s a way you can cover the injector offset vs pulse width on big injectors all motor. 🤯 I’m sure it’ll be a big help for most of us that watch your Chanel religiously!!!🤘
I would VERY much like to hear Matts take on tuning injectors that do not have injector data for, and also his take on if the VE goes over 100. I am fighting this situation currently with a set of injectors.
This is why people watch sloppy ... We don't give 2 shits about 8-second race cars ... We want 11-second work trucks makin chooo choo sounds ..
Pleeease put these in the tune cabinet for us truck guys.
plugged in my good mic for this can you tell lol
Yes! Full ASMR send! 😄
It did not sound bad but i dont remember any problems before

About to start my 6.0 2500 build rewatching all your older vids 👍
THE RISK - Letting out all the magic!
REWARD - Having an extra 100 wheel!
Hmmmm 🤔
This is exactly what I have been wanting to watch
Its so weird not hearing a turbo spool haha

The gain?
Can this be done with a 4wd drivetrain or will it explode or something?
Hydro-locks a cylinder, snaps a rod, and it catches on fire. Sounds like my kind of luck....
I gotta ask about the Correction factor of "Internet +20%" lol
I just bought a 2wd to do the same thing. I’m glad I watched this video first

looking forward to this project. tuned into sloppy mechanics when you had that white 2500 back in 2013ish. good stuff.

Not gonna lie, you had me in the first half... :) I wish these were cheaper around me.
Jess Neal same, here in Texas you have to add a 0 to something like that. Almost worth flying up there and driving one home.
Love it! Can’t wait for more of this build!

Stock tune is also awful on these trucks so have to add that In
@@SloppyMechanics Was the baseline dyno with tuning?
Is this a DS yeeter truck?
Great project. Build the truck for the power level you want then later on swap everything into your choice of recipient.
What do you think a lq9 and 799s with a ss2 NA would make?
With your experience around the dyno, how much more power would you say a manual trans yields (if any) over 4l60 or 4l80?
Typical is 20% loss with an auto and 12% with a stick. I like grabbing gears like Trump grabs pussy but when it comes to racing you'll be hard pressed to beat a properly set up automatic.
New band name: PumpGas & The Tire Fryers
I love story time.

You need to remove the base map sensor pid and add in 2-3 bar os config, whatever one your using to read over 105 limit
Really cool beater truck and it sounds great and starts/runs really good.
This what in putting in my 56 Buick! ALL EARS! 👍
I like these video blogs thank you for posting.
I can’t find one in Texas. Bummer.
where do you normally put your wideband for customer pulls that may not have a bung in the exhaust?
I have a tail pipe sniffer rig I built I did a video on it before
Wow nice truck Mitch!
Will an 862 cylinder head be a good head for 6.0? I have two sets of these on the bench. Thanks for all the awesome videos!
Not with that small intake valve and small combustion chamber. On the hunt for some decent 799's

As usual thanks for sharing.
Love the all motor builds!
Are 862 heads good Damn did you replace the head gasket
Re used, 862 is smaller chamber truck head and will bump compression
I bought one for $500 and it’s mint ac is the only option it rips as is 👍🏻🇺🇸✌️

Im pretty sure the intake value is bigger on the 317 heads but not worth the compression
317 and 799 have the same size valves. 706 and 862 are the heads with the small valves and smaller combustion chambers
I believe the 799 and 243 are the same and have a smaller combustion chamber than the 317 but not as small as like the 862
Matt what do you adjust to stop cam surge in gear especially with ac on
THOSE GROM GUYS stall converter is the biggest thing to me. Stock you will likely be fighting it. Other than that good idle tuning, correct fueling, and getting the idle spark nice and smooth

People always forget compression when they throw in a cam and bleed off what they had left lol... Great results. A cam and some 243s cost stuff all.
After watching your last Colorado build I had this exact same idea - 2500 series 6L. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
Bad ass Matt.
Random question: what do you think the difference would be if you degreed a ss2 or the cam in this truck?
I think this could be a damn good drag week vehicle. Or a 2500 van😈
So I'll be the one to ask i guess, would this be a pretty good towing setup, or would less cam work better? Turbo either way, because I'm planning on something like this to haul the toys around
Great project. Ty for sharing your knowledge.
Really cool to see this since I'm about to do pretty much the same thing for my rx8 swap
I’m really excited to see this build because it’s nearly identical to my build and plans.
Please send info on the custom cam mentioned. Thanks!
Hey mate so on a n/a cammed motor do you get much of a gain in numbers using e85
20 whp usually

Well alright !!!!! back at the home base dyno !!!
Love it ! Gonna be a great and realistic build that most can do !
This is an awesome story! Can't wait to see how this progresses
so would you recomend a cheap 2500 truck over a 1500
That's how you get the 6L and 4l80e.
I'm gonna guess he'd say yes since they probably have a 4L80E as an added bonus?
ALWAYS the 2500, always..
If you can find one not ragged out- yep! 6L and 4L80.
If it’s ragged, just get the 2500 and swap everything over to a good 1500
I mean the 6.0 is probably not even worth the extra weight but as long as you plan on swapping to a 4l80e
Awesome project I can’t wait to see it with the turbo
What springs did you use? Pacs?
I have the Summit 8718 torque cam going in a 5.3 with 706 heads that’s going in my 1990 k1500. I chose this cam because I wanted low end torque for off roading and towing.
Just make sure you put a decent stall in it. Gets those rpms up and it will turn them tires real well.
