I write this fully understanding that you've probably long ago either forgotten about this or looked it up yourself; that said, here we go! Rockwell Hardness is determined by placing an object (such as a tomahawk or marshmallow) under a device called an indenter (just picture a fairly pointed metal spike) and then pressing on the object/material with a set PSI. The bigger the dent made, the softer it is and therefore a lower Rockwell rating. Marshmallow would have a score of zero, while the tomahawk is at a 57. **(If I remember correctly, 57 is actually fairly hard and as such will hold an edge very well but has a slight chance of eventually cracking. I believe rock hard is actually harder than 57 by a fair margin, and therefore would likely shatter very quickly.)** It's all more advanced than this, as there are several methods and machine types for determining this, but that's the gist of it.

The Waiting Flame I'm Just gonna Go ahead and say that a LOT of these will be Beyond their Capabilities or would take an insane amount of time to get done. For Example, Irelia's "Swords" Have no Handles and Float magically around an Orb. Crescent Rose is Part Sniper Rifle, Part Scythe (A Sniper Scythle, if you will) Sure, if you can get the Right mechanical/Engineering Dude in on it, Maybe. But a bunch of Blacksmiths? you're getting a Scythe. no Transformations. the Nemean Cestus from God of War 3? Imean, Sure, I bet they could Make it. But the Show Reel would be them Dropping it on Stuff. You could not lug those around as Weapons. they're Miniature Wrecking Balls. The Buster Sword was Boring because all they could do was Drop it on stuff. Because it's insanely Heavy. This is the Same Problem with Dragonslayer. There's several others, too. I also want to point out that a Lot of these will just look like Generic Swords. Especially stuff like "This dude's Katana" or "Kai Leng's Katana" or "Vibroblades from KoTOR"

I personally prefer Ilya's attempt, since it was a much more realistic weapon and he didn't use a super-modern laser(?!) cutting tool to speed up the process. Matt's looked really nice, though. In a sense, they both won ;)
Jason Doe he used a plasma cutter, which isn't a laser, but isn't far from it. I like them both for different reasons. One's more visually intresting (the Conner hawk), while the other is more simple practicality (the Patriot).
brawler1z It should matter since the connor hawk is welded to its handle hence a risk of the welding breaking. The more classical one is sure less visually interesting but will last way longer
+HaunterXD O I'd love to see them create Thunderfury. The challenge of overcoming the size of the sword, but light enough to be used one-handed easily? Git er dun!
alfheim online was the SAO story arc that finished off season one. In it Kirito was using a big ass black buster sword looking monstrosity so its different than the elucidator and Dark repulser that he wielded in the aincrad story arc.
Umut Karapınar Issei's glove would be pretty awesome, although I can't really see how it could be utilized as a weapon in real life, since it doesn't have an edge or anything.
JoestarKisama It'd be fascinating to see how you could even make some of those weapons work, from a mechanical standpoint. I mean some are just a folding blade, but others like say the Threaded Cane seems like it'd be really complex to build... and quite unsafe to handle.
Daniel Mårtensson yeeeah, the Threaded Cane is the strongest contender for just flat-out impossible to build, but something else might work. I'd like to see Ludwig's or Saw Spear. Maybe they could even make Tonitrus work with some kind of Tesla Coil heh.

LOLLIPOPandCHOCO Yeah Soul from Soul eater was supposed to have been done before but they ended up doing Tsubaki without realizing their mistake. XD I'd love to see Soul in Scythe Form.
It's so close! But Illya, as much as I love ya man, I think Matt's got ya beat! So much effort into that forged hammer to drop it off the base with a pre-made axe handle? No scruffiness or anything else to up the aesthetics? Such a small margin...but that AC3 axe looks so sweet and seems to be able to get in there and really get the job done at the end, just a little more so than the Patriot.
I am not sure who won. Personally I preferred the traditional tomahawk but I think I would prefer a regular spike on the tomahawk or a smaller secondary blade. I have concerns with a hollow blade and its long term durability
Yeah, but that assasins creed styled axe does not have a splitting design. It looks like a hunters skinning axe to be honest. Yet Ilyas axe have more of a woodsplitting design, it's not optimal for that either. But a trowing test, edge test, killing test on one of those zombie go boom skulls would be great to see :D
InfuseDJ The Assassin's Creed one was made in such a way it doesn't have the structural integrity to survive too much wood cutting and hard blows. It probably would have snapped along the weld eventually, so it would have been a better idea to keep it to a minimum. I love Men at Arms but frankly that thing is a wallhanger. Actually come to think of it making these geek weapons then putting them through hardcore stress tests vs "practical" designs would make a really fun show.
More challenges! These are so fun to watch just because everyone has their own way of making these weapons. And you're always able to learn from eachother that way aswell!
I think the traditional tomahawk won because i think it is beter forged and stronger, because the assasins creed tomahawk is all about looks if you ask me... The traditional is probably really useful in combat.
Jonathan Cane I don't know about building weapons, but I assume it would have to be made into three parts and have that folding out/locking mech to make it work. It can probably be done, but it would take some unique engineering.
i know that this weapon is almost impossible to make, but can you make ludwig's holy blade from Bloodborne? both silver blade and blade-sheath so you can conbine them? i know this is really a "tricky weapon" but i know that you can do this!
We all know Ilia is the best at forging, shaping, etching, and the beginning phases of the build. Matt is best at grinders and cleaning the blade and is one of the best at the finishing touches, there's a reason why they work best as a team but still hilarious to see them competing!
Really enjoyed this video, great creating skills, I watched this mainly because I like assassin's creed and I intrigued by how people would recreate the tomahawk, I have liked this video, and will recommend it to my best mate who is also an assassin's creed fan P.s.i regularly create different things using tools and I will take great inspiration from this video :)

This is my favorite episode one because they make the tomahawk from one of my favorite movies and my favorite assassins creed game. Two all the comments about using another mans hammer "PHRASING". Finally its always cool to see smith vs smith especially Illiya vs Matt.
I always wonder: would the welded tomahawk head be structurally weaker than the one-piece tomahawk head? I assumed that the welding points are the weak spots.
+Travis Hardee Thanks! I just assumed that the interface between 2 different pieces of materials would be weaker than if there wasn't such an interface, hence the question. Perhaps the welds altered the 2 materials so they essentially perform as a single piece of material?
***** Huh that's interesting! I think I see my initial misunderstanding now: I may have confused welding with soldering (which I know is completely different). But, knowing that where the two pieces meet together are now essentially 1 piece of metal, surely the parts of the metal that's surrounded by the weld (but aren't actually welded) are still 2 pieces of metal? Wouldn't that be a source of weakness? Or are the two pieces of metal completely fused together by the weld? Does that depend on the welding technique? I ask because I imagine that if you weld two hypothetically large surfaces together around the edge, the interior ought to be untouched. Is that the correct assumption? Would welding around the edge even be the right thing to do? Sorry for the long questions, but something about welding is just pretty darn fascinating for me. Someone help!!
I know this is very late on saying it, but you both made excellent tomahawks. However Ilya decide to do the more traditional style common the only difference he did was that a double Spike at the end when the one in the Patriot was clearly a pipe style tomahawk but okay I can roll with that. What Matt did was creative and mostly fantasy inspired but none the less we can turn fantasy art into combat art you have thumbs up in my book as well as my respect. So awesome jobs both of you guys.

Douglas Paulson um..no? do you think that ac3 tomahawk is appropriate for splitting wood? It also has an obvious opening in the blade. Tomahawks are supposed to be light, In what dictionary does that define to you as a hatchet?
shudodevil10 The ac3 tomahawk isn't appropriate for anything. Tomahawks are light, but the ac one is too light and totally useless. Tomahawks have the handle come from the top down, not from the bottom up. They also have more or less straight handles.

He said Rockwell, not rockal. The Rockscale scale describes how hard a material is by measuring how much of an hole is made by an indenter under a large load. The more you know~~

I write this fully understanding that you've probably long ago either forgotten about this or looked it up yourself; that said, here we go! Rockwell Hardness is determined by placing an object (such as a tomahawk or marshmallow) under a device called an indenter (just picture a fairly pointed metal spike) and then pressing on the object/material with a set PSI. The bigger the dent made, the softer it is and therefore a lower Rockwell rating. Marshmallow would have a score of zero, while the tomahawk is at a 57. **(If I remember correctly, 57 is actually fairly hard and as such will hold an edge very well but has a slight chance of eventually cracking. I believe rock hard is actually harder than 57 by a fair margin, and therefore would likely shatter very quickly.)** It's all more advanced than this, as there are several methods and machine types for determining this, but that's the gist of it.

For Example, Irelia's "Swords" Have no Handles and Float magically around an Orb.
Crescent Rose is Part Sniper Rifle, Part Scythe (A Sniper Scythle, if you will)
Sure, if you can get the Right mechanical/Engineering Dude in on it, Maybe. But a bunch of Blacksmiths? you're getting a Scythe. no Transformations.
the Nemean Cestus from God of War 3? Imean, Sure, I bet they could Make it. But the Show Reel would be them Dropping it on Stuff. You could not lug those around as Weapons. they're Miniature Wrecking Balls. The Buster Sword was Boring because all they could do was Drop it on stuff. Because it's insanely Heavy. This is the Same Problem with Dragonslayer.
There's several others, too. I also want to point out that a Lot of these will just look like Generic Swords. Especially stuff like "This dude's Katana" or "Kai Leng's Katana" or "Vibroblades from KoTOR"

Jason Doe he used a plasma cutter, which isn't a laser, but isn't far from it. I like them both for different reasons. One's more visually intresting (the Conner hawk), while the other is more simple practicality (the Patriot).

It's so close! But Illya, as much as I love ya man, I think Matt's got ya beat! So much effort into that forged hammer to drop it off the base with a pre-made axe handle? No scruffiness or anything else to up the aesthetics? Such a small margin...but that AC3 axe looks so sweet and seems to be able to get in there and really get the job done at the end, just a little more so than the Patriot.
I am not sure who won. Personally I preferred the traditional tomahawk but I think I would prefer a regular spike on the tomahawk or a smaller secondary blade. I have concerns with a hollow blade and its long term durability

Yeah, but that assasins creed styled axe does not have a splitting design. It looks like a hunters skinning axe to be honest. Yet Ilyas axe have more of a woodsplitting design, it's not optimal for that either. But a trowing test, edge test, killing test on one of those zombie go boom skulls would be great to see :D
InfuseDJ It's for theatrics-for the camera. They don't do full on functional tests. They are lack-luster for theatrics.
InfuseDJ The Assassin's Creed one was made in such a way it doesn't have the structural integrity to survive too much wood cutting and hard blows. It probably would have snapped along the weld eventually, so it would have been a better idea to keep it to a minimum. I love Men at Arms but frankly that thing is a wallhanger.
Actually come to think of it making these geek weapons then putting them through hardcore stress tests vs "practical" designs would make a really fun show.

I think the traditional tomahawk won because i think it is beter forged and stronger, because the assasins creed tomahawk is all about looks if you ask me... The traditional is probably really useful in combat.

I don't know about building weapons, but I assume it would have to be made into three parts and have that folding out/locking mech to make it work. It can probably be done, but it would take some unique engineering.

We all know Ilia is the best at forging, shaping, etching, and the beginning phases of the build. Matt is best at grinders and cleaning the blade and is one of the best at the finishing touches, there's a reason why they work best as a team but still hilarious to see them competing!
Really enjoyed this video, great creating skills, I watched this mainly because I like assassin's creed and I intrigued by how people would recreate the tomahawk, I have liked this video, and will recommend it to my best mate who is also an assassin's creed fan

I always wonder: would the welded tomahawk head be structurally weaker than the one-piece tomahawk head? I assumed that the welding points are the weak spots.
the welding spots are the strongest, a good weld should hold up to a ton... or more.

But, knowing that where the two pieces meet together are now essentially 1 piece of metal, surely the parts of the metal that's surrounded by the weld (but aren't actually welded) are still 2 pieces of metal? Wouldn't that be a source of weakness? Or are the two pieces of metal completely fused together by the weld? Does that depend on the welding technique?
I ask because I imagine that if you weld two hypothetically large surfaces together around the edge, the interior ought to be untouched. Is that the correct assumption? Would welding around the edge even be the right thing to do?
Sorry for the long questions, but something about welding is just pretty darn fascinating for me. Someone help!!

I know this is very late on saying it, but you both made excellent tomahawks. However Ilya decide to do the more traditional style common the only difference he did was that a double Spike at the end when the one in the Patriot was clearly a pipe style tomahawk but okay I can roll with that. What Matt did was creative and mostly fantasy inspired but none the less we can turn fantasy art into combat art you have thumbs up in my book as well as my respect. So awesome jobs both of you guys.

shudodevil10 The ac3 tomahawk isn't appropriate for anything. Tomahawks are light, but the ac one is too light and totally useless. Tomahawks have the handle come from the top down, not from the bottom up. They also have more or less straight handles.
