BeardedDanishViking drawing a blade out from a bar by hand is definitely higher quality than cutting sheet metal. That’s why the other two dwarfed when quenching, it wasn’t just because the water quench. Matt quenched an already more molecularly compact hand-forged blade into oil. That is easily better and more reliable than sheet metal or pre-cut blades. Thats why the objects price would be higher, because it IS better.
same here. I usually prefeer hand forged over plasma cut, and the exstra work Matt put into the blade looks in my opinion better than the blades of the two other cutlasses
The thing that set me off of John's and made me choose Matt's was that he used brass wire with a brassed guard and pommel. It needed something darker in the middle.
Yeah this. I've never thought cutting a blade shape out of a sheet of steel then sharpening it can be called sword making at all. Also why I hated "Big Giant Swords".

Matt totally Matt it seems the most functional to me though Johns looked nice and pretty i think i'd rather have Matt's i don't trust a cookie cutter sword
@@ccortez392 Have you, I'm a metallurgically certified graduate who has been making knives and such for years. Water is dangerous! Plus their issues were other than just water, they both warped heavily to one side! Probably because they were not likely properly forged blades like Matt's. The Japanese (I have antiques and a modern made from me, have studied it for years, and know oil can cause a downward curve, but water and upward one) have been using water for years and also lose at least a third of blades due to cracking or extreme warpage. I have used water myself, but I would never attempt it on pattern welded steel, too many stress risers to consider. Plus even mono steel, unless it was closer to what antique blades were made of due to carbon loss and homogenization of folding, and the fact the steel had differing levels of carbon, making them closer to an overall 1060/1065 steel wouldn't think to use water in sections under an inch think - which obviously does not work for a cutting instrument. There's my two cents......
Great video guys! I think Matt's blade was better. Also for a future video I think you guys should do a "frankstein" build, by that I mean each member would design and assembly a part, for example the blade, handle, guard and all that. Then combine all the parts to make a sword.
that would be awesome, none of them know what the others do, but they know what it will have to fit to. they all know the size and shape of the tang, the guy who make the hilt know the handle length so he can make a basket hilt if he want, etc.

Luke Wells, Staying true to a cutlass would mean it's a strong, simple, and nasty design. Bill's blade would be the closest to what you'd imagine in a swashbuckling adventure. Matt's is superior and more expensive, John's is for a nobleman who would never sweat.
yeah, bill's mass produced version is most likely what a pirate would have. john's is very nice, but there is no way a pirate would have one. it's more something a navy officer would receive as an honor from the queen. matt's is probably the furthest thing you'd ever see a sailor own, but it went with functionality over flair, even with the damascus blade. in my opinion, functionality beats all, so matt wins.
Thomas Jenkins you are wrong in a couple ways my friend. Having owned two cutlasses dated from 1760 and 1770 respectively, I can assure you that no pirate would have had a scull and crossbones on his guard. Also an unwrapped handle gets slippery with blood and sweat, and so is ineffective, this can be solved like Matt did, with the grooves, or how my real cutlasses are, by cotton wrapping. Matt's is actually closest to what a sailor would have carried, its a well known french cutlass type, made during the 1770's to 80's. Was issued on many french Men-o'-War, and since pirates took any functional, well balanced piece of steel they could (to the point of broken cutlasses filed down to make dirks or daggers), I think many pirate sailors would have owned french hangers. Just my humble opinion.
you misunderstood my comment. when i said that the mass produced one is what the pirates would have, that is exactly what i meant. i wasn't really referring to the aesthetic designs. just the fact that bill's was made with parts that already formed and pulled off a shelf of premade items. matt's blade alone would have cost about as much as the ship itself and john's was pure fantasy. matt's guard and bills blade are pretty much what they would have had.
I loved that it showed most experienced to least experienced. I found the highlight of each blade was: The spine of John's blade and the wired wrapped handle. Matt's damascus pattern of the blade as well as the simplicity yet detailed look of the french hand guard, and finally Bill's wooden blue handle and the smaller detail on the pommel.
Yea I agree, matt wins hands down due to his handcrafted Cutlass with beautiful etching. Although the finished pieces from the other guys looked really good!
Matt's was simple, yet beautiful. It's cut well, and really showed the pirate spirit. John's was also quite beautiful, but it was also something you would have expected a naval captain to have.
hands down Matt won, the reason why I think so is. 1. because he forged the blade from scratch, 2. he went for a more traditional and historic style and 3. it was god damn beautiful
Well, all three blades could have been made historically. Minus the grooves in one of the blades, the ornate handles definitely look like something a particularly wealthy ship captain or pirate could have had.
2019, two years late, doesn't matter. The real winner here would be the Damascus blade, the kraken hilt and the darker finish. That's why the usualy work together, cuz their combined work is amazing. Duh.
Honestly, I think a combination of all 3 would be amazing. Matt’s damascus blade with Johns brass octopus and wire wrapped handle with the length and width of Bills cutlass. Over all they are all talented people
I was certain this was gonna be a really one-sided match at the start when everyone was describing their plans, but damn if they all didn't turn out amazing in their own specific ways.
Both of the fancy guards are beautiful. That octopus guard is sick! Love the look of scalloped blade as well. But, I have to go with Matt's damascus setup. That rustic look just nails it for me.
Even thought I'd like to see this because I'm a big DS fan, ummm I dont think it would be able to cut anything with it. It's pretty much just a peice of twisted rebar :D
The Octopus Hand-guard, the gold pommel, and the wire-wrapped Handle look really good, but all three in the same colour seem a bit monotonous. The blue-ish handle looks really nice and that blade has a really aggressive scorpion-esque look to it, which looks cool, but weird to use. And last but not least, the winner. Could anything beat Damascus steel? Hell no. But despite a nice pattern, that cutlass has a nice Handle and Handguard too. But really beautiful is the length-width ratio, which makes it look more like a cutlass than the other longer and more narrow blades. Matt has made a really beautiful sword, which also looks like a cutlass should look.
I also wanted to mention how awesome the two grooves down Matts blade look, but couldn't remember how its written in english. Is it "fuller"? Translated straight from german its "blood groove" (at least if translated from the only word i know for it).
It is indeed called a fuller, but blood groove is not wrong either, as a fuller's main purpose is to draw the blood down and away from the edge, like a ditch drains water from the road.
Sabrina Summers actually that is a common myth. The fullers true purpose is to remove weight from otherwise unwieldy blades. Not sure exactly where the nickname 'blood groove' came from though.
It's actual purpose is to have a negative space for air to enter the body upon a stab so the blade doesn't get suction cupped in the body making it impossible to remove
Just because a sword is ornamental or gilded etc. doesn't mean that it isn't useable or practical. Plenty of swords in this perioud were very pretty and ornamented but were used in combat. Remember, if you're rich you can have a fancy sword that you would still use in battle. Think gangbanger with a gold plated desert eagle or taliban warlord with a silver plated AK47. You don't even have to be rich, a lot of the swords issued to British soldiers in the 18th and 19th centuries looked fairly fancy for a sword but were clearly used in combat.
I really liked Matt's blade, it had the more classic shape i would want in a cutlass- But that octopus guard really got me right in the pirate. I think that's my fav.
Mat had a shorter, heavier blade. Cutlasses, being issued to chiefs, and non-officers of the navy, were meant to be used more belowdecks, and in a pinch to hack through ship's line. So short and heavy, so as to not be hindered in cramped cabin spaces belowdecks and to cleave lines, I give it to Mat. Or at least my U.S. Navy twinge is telling me.
Everytime I watch a video with Matt he gets a little closer to being my favorite Smith, and this video is no exception. While his handle and guard weren't as flashy as his competors, his blade was lovely! Everyone's Cutlasses were great. But overall Matt made the best sword.
That One Guy i agree and disagree, i agree as in i like matt a lot as wel! and i disagree as in his handle and guard and pommel might not have been as flashy they got the job done and weren't over done. i think those other two were too flashy to be honest.. I'm just curious to which one was better balanced, since that's hard to see from a video like this.
I'm an iron worker. And we do a lot of field welding alternating between guys. So whenever they weld on this show I instinctively cover my phone screen or computer screen with my hand. 😂 every damn time.
Doc Sturgeon if you stare at the ultra violet light in person it can seriously damage you're eyes. Idk if it's permanent or not but it's kind of like staring into the sun.
We're welders by trade. When working in the field, you often don't have your welding helmet with you when someone starts a weld, so it becomes a habit to put a hand between your eyes and the weld arc pretty early on. The habit is strong enough that even when we're watching a video of someone welding, we avert our eyes or cover the screen to protect our vision, even though the brightness of the arc doesn't translate through the camera.
I love the octopus cutlass it's looks so original and inspired, the clamshell one was awesome too there is beauty in its simplicity and how it's different from the others
Blade: Matt. Hands down. Love that damascus and stacked fuller Pommel and Guard: John. Love the octopus and brass look Handle: Bill's was really cool, but Matt's looks very nice. Both good Overall Visuals: John (except for the blade. Matt's blade looks great) Functionality: Bill. I would chose Bill's in the end if I needed it in combat. Balanced swing
I could not have said it better. Only that i prefer the look of the wired handle, but i have no idea if that feels good in the hand, i am pretty sure you have a good firm grip on that but is it comfortable ? Does anyone have a opinion on that?
Cytrillex BagelsMan wire wrapped hilts will rip up your bare hands- unless of course they're already heavily calloused from working rigging for YEARS lol. Realistically they were designed to provide extra grip when wearing gauntlets, which typically had a leather glove insert. the practice of wearing gloves continued even after gauntlets fell out of use, but generally only in the upper classes and nobility. it would not be unreasonable to assume a full wire wrap hilt was originally intended for an officer (who would have had gloves as part of the uniform).
Austin Whitley yes, I've asked them to make this before, and I'll do it again! That would be amazing, but make it like the book describes them not the replicas.
I actually don't mind John's sword. A bit gaudy but I dig the large, elaborate guard. John's sword looks more or less exactly like the production swords BKS sells regularly. Maybe a little more refined, but still. But yeah, Matt totally won this one.
this shows the many ins and outs of how each sword Smith does their roles the best, i honestly think each of them came out a winner because they have learned from one another when they look back on the footage great job guys it's too bad mat was time limited on a build he was so set on completing to the utmost quality i would like to see a collab build with caliburn and excalibur while the one you guys did for the fate series was cool. the quality of the build compared to some others done by you guys doesn't come close... Excalibur is a sword known round the world i think it should get a second chance, especially with this new movie around the corner.
Illiya won his episode, I'm sure Matt would have no problems if he was on the show either given his innate knowledge of all the blade types they work with, not to mention his attention to detail etc.
Illiya so far is the only one from this show to be on Forged in Fire. And he was great. The episode that he was on was an instant win for him. The other constant failed to properly finish the final piece, and on top of that, Illiya is a Armor Smith specialist. His episode was making a shield. It would have been very embarrassing if he had lost.
They've actually done two different versions of Excalibur. The game tie in, yes, but before that they made the Fate/Zero version of the sword. So there's really no reason why they couldn't make yet another version of it besides maybe the burn out factor of the fans.
1) I miss Tony, i wonder how he and his fellas are doing. 2) I think the Damascus Cutlass is the most badass one, second is Jolly Roger one, and Octopus is the third. They are equally awesome, but i just prefer looks of Damascus one, and not quite dig wire wrapping on handle of Octopus one. But i liked the guard for sure. Jolly Roger in the middle because of wood used for handle, and small tricks used to make it look good, plus authentic and useful blackening of steel does it's job
George Sears I have to agree. The octopus looks badass as hell, but I like rather simple and more practical designs Still, extremely nice work from all 3,highly creative and very unique. You guys should do more of those challenges
George Sears Tony's building weapons from World of Warcraft on the World of Warcraft UA-cam Channel. I think it's called Azeroth Armoury. He and the Sword and the Stone crew seem to be doing alright. Brian was on the Zelda Superfan Pool table build
Yeah. Damascus Cutlass looked awesome. This actually makes me think of Tony. Pretty sure he actually made swords for the original Pirated Of The Caribbean
Thanks for the info, it's a shame that i've missed so much about him) Just rewatched some old issues of Man at arms and got em out of my head like, for year maybe. And now i have new series to rewatch and not to wait ongoing ones, yay!
These competition builds are easily my favorites as they show different perspectives and personal taste. Maybe give a theme and have them draw builds at random out of a hat to really give them a test.
definitely, it has been highly educational for me to watch them as they are making blades period. But then they have these competition builds that really showcase how well they truly know their craft. It would be interesting to see them do a competition build where the 'winner' has to then forge a section blade against llya - he honestly makes blade forging look like an art form in my mind - ESPECIALLY after he and Matt did the Kill la Kill Scissors blade, and with the main blade made from a billet from actual scissors
Matt's design is closest to what an actual pirate would use, though. Pirates have no use for design. Unrelated to being a pirate, the octopus sword does take the cake.
pirates often actually carried varied exotic weapons not necessarily because they were good but it gave them a certain image. having a sword with a octopus guard would make a pirate instantly recognizable and if legends of him a gruesome then it can benefit him without ever having to use it.
Iris looks cooler than Aerondight. A bunch of the Witcher swords look cooler than Aerondight. Iris is obviously a bad ass Messer and is prob my fav along with the Winter Blade Crach gives you. Those 2 LOOK the coolest.
"and they all suck at heat-treating".. roast detected.. jokes aside.. IMO I'd say that all 3 swords were good.. yet they seem to not stick to the essence of a cutlass -- its simplicity and balance. Matt went for a black Damascus look with intricate carvings on the blades which would be more aptly named as a rune blade.. John's cutlass was slightly too luxurious thanks to the wire mesh, guard and pommel seemed layered in gold. In addition to it.. it had a serrated edge.. which was uncalled for when dealing with cutlasses.. Bill's in overall had a closer look to a cutlass compared to the other 2 and yet had an added grind in the blade which make it look somewhat like a katana.. However.. I'm just a spectator and kudos to all the hard work and effort put in! IMHO, Ilyas rules!
They all won because they all did an amazing job. Everyone in his own style. The one with the brass details looks like the blade from an english captain who is hunting pirates, because in the movies they are mostly the guys with the gold details on their swords. Great colours and details like the brass wired grip. AWESOME!!! The damaskus blade looks like the blade of a normal pirate. No captain. Just a pirate. But because it's so simple it's very cool. And when you look closer at the blade you see the damskus. So beautiful. So it's simple but very beautiful. (my favourite) AWESOME TOO!!! And the last one looks like the blade of a captain, the boss of all pirates. The details are great and the colour on the grip looks so awesome and beautifull. And the blach finisch on the metal parts make it looks like it's very old and that's cool. AWESOME ASWELL!!!
I can't really say. I really liked Bill's handle and John's guard, and watching Matt do his thing with the blade was really cool. I really enjoyed Matt's historical touch, as well as John's hollywood theatricality, plus Bill's skull and crossbones guard was a fun touch. I really liked all the blades and they're all beautiful.
Matt's was a super wide cutlass that I would prefer but it looked too heavy to wield quickly in CQC but it was a beautifully simple construction. John's was pretty awesome and I like the serrated spine and that octopus design was fantastic with the brassing colors. Bill's was interesting, simple using stock materials, and I don't know if it was from his size and the weight behind his swings but his blade clearly functioned with greater superiority to the blades Matt and John created. It wasn't anything spectacular to look at but most blades of legend aren't flashy to begin with it seems. This was a really interesting switch from the usual and I enjoyed it!
from what i understand of saber and cutlass combat (as a non-practionner), a heavy blade is actually recommended. i've held infantry and cavalry sabers from the napoleonic era (polish hussar, english cavalry, and french infantry), and all those blades hit the kilo mark easily (the french infantry was lightest at 1.3kg). all three were also very unbalanced (the polish saber had a pob of about 10in). you don't feint with a cutting blade, or at least it wasn't doctrine in the 19th century. you want power, not speed with those things. all three blades were well made no doubt, but i'll take matt's. it's a machete: raw aggression, no flourish, with a curve that allowed you to do vertical swings indoors.
They all had perfect form but Matt delivered and hand crafted every thing so I think Matt won and his cutlass was awsome
Handcrafting has no inherent value. Just takes longer, and adds to an object's price.
BeardedDanishViking drawing a blade out from a bar by hand is definitely higher quality than cutting sheet metal. Sabrina Summers actually that is a common myth. The fullers true purpose is to remove weight from otherwise unwieldy blades. Not sure exactly where the nickname 'blood groove' came from though.
The fuller is for lighten the blade, not for the blood
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuller_(weapon)
It's actual purpose is to have a negative space for air to enter the body upon a stab so the blade doesn't get suction cupped in the body making it impossible to remove
01:13 “... and they all suck at heat treating!”
Man I love this guy 😂
Loved Matt's version the best. The simple efficient look would be more at home on the high seas. The others are more fit for a parade ground review.
Michael Fouse Totally agree! Most usable in actual use and pretty as hell to look at! Looks so cool despite the one fold only damascus :D
finally a good comment
I agree, I thought Matt's was the most authentic, but I thought John's performed the best (cuts, slices etc.)
In my opinion Matt's one is the best.
The Mace of Molag Bal or Dawnbreaker From TES Skyrim
do molag bal!
Both would be cool
I really liked Matt's blade, it had the more classic shape i would want in a cutlass- But that octopus guard really got me right in the pirate. I think that's my fav.
keeperoflenneth the octopus guard is one of their production shapes! Really beautiful.
"And they all suck at heat treating" damn Illya is a savage
Mat had a shorter, heavier blade. Cutlasses, being issued to chiefs, and non-officers of the navy, were meant to be used more belowdecks, and in a pinch to hack through ship's line. So short and heavy, so as to not be hindered in cramped cabin spaces belowdecks and to cleave lines, I give it to Mat. Or at least my U.S. Navy twinge is telling me.
Exactly, his was a cutlass, theirs were sabers.
my thoughts exactly as well.
Granted, but that octopus guard made me pee a little. Such beautiful craftsmanship. I'm awestruck.
Functionnally as a cutlass I would give it to Mat, but the best finish was the octopus.
wish it had red jewels on it and silver backing plate. I would cum
Everytime I watch a video with Matt he gets a little closer to being my favorite Smith, and this video is no exception. While his handle and guard weren't as flashy as his competors, his blade was lovely! Everyone's Cutlasses were great. But overall Matt made the best sword.
That One Guy
realy reiner?!
Alexander Prime ha I noticed it too. akward timing considering he's a traitor ha
Hanibal King there's more behind it than you know
That One Guy he is my favorite Smith as well
you guys should make challenges like this more often
DSjanangel eh two a season would be pushing it.
DSjanangel you're right more challenges !!
Matt's blade, John's handle and basket guard. I think combining the two would make one of the most beautiful weapons ever.
Matt's was the better blade for sure...
want a challenge.
Drizzt's blades from forgotten realms would be sick to see
Iron Ogre Icingdeath or Twinkle?
Both...they would be totally different while being the same type of sword....would be nice to show the contrast
Iron Ogre they are twins you can't just do one
currently twinkle is broken and he's using vidrinath. kazidhea with the crazy pummels or even Charon's claw
But John's handle and guard were better
I'm an iron worker. And we do a lot of field welding alternating between guys. So whenever they weld on this show I instinctively cover my phone screen or computer screen with my hand. 😂 every damn time.
Larklan same
Me too!
Can I ask why as a common city slicker XD.
Matt, I love Damascus builds...though John's wire wrap was on point.
All of these cutlasses are amazing. Each blade builder put their own style into them. In my opinion, they are all winners. Well done.
John's octopus desing was awesome. That's a cutlass a pirate captain would wield.
YES!!
Davy Jones's sword?
Fun fact, Tony was the one who made the Swords for the Pirates Series originally
Daluna13 Is it bad I hoped that he would be a guest on this episode?
Honestly I was wondering if he would as well, the Swords were beautiful none the less
Daluna13 true
Yes but there were more Props than actual working swords.
Blurb357 yes sir
In my opinion Ilya's blade was the best.
Carlospvp agree
hahaha yes !!!
Carlospvp Damnit i was gonna say that
Carlospvp ilya didn’t make one
Ilya didn’t make one
Astounds me that anyone could dislike this. Even if you don't like swords you have to admire the craftsmanship.
Whitebeard's Bisento - One Piece
I now that Matt won because his sword is a true pirate sword and PS he's my favorite sword Smith
I love the octopus cutlass it's looks so original and inspired, the clamshell one was awesome too there is beauty in its simplicity and how it's different from the others
At first I thought that Matt's will be my favorite with his forged damascus. But in the end I like the John's sword the most! 🙂
Blade: Matt. Hands down. Love that damascus and stacked fuller
Pommel and Guard: John. Love the octopus and brass look
Handle: Bill's was really cool, but Matt's looks very nice. Both good
Overall Visuals: John (except for the blade. Matt's blade looks great)
Functionality: Bill.
The exotic swords from Destiny would be really cool to see
Dpwinks finally someone who agrees😂
Yeah! make the exotic swords
l agree.
I'd like to see them do the sword of Crota.
Andrzej Kmicic sword
I agree with Iron Ogre's comment. Drizzt Do'Urden's dual scimitars: twinkle and icingdeath
This would make a good challenge video too.
Austin Whitley yes, I've asked them to make this before, and I'll do it again! That would be amazing, but make it like the book describes them not the replicas.
Yes! Very good idea it would be awesome to see those blades brought to life.
When it comes to actual quality Matt's is the best
matt: forge the sword from scrach
john:machines do everything
bill:just puts finished pieces together
btw the fruit tests dont mean shit....i can cut through a melon with the blunt side of my rusty machetee
Singing Duckling indeed, but the tatami mats are rather hard to cut through
I actually don't mind John's sword. A bit gaudy but I dig the large, elaborate guard.
John's sword looks more or less exactly like the production swords BKS sells regularly. Maybe a little more refined, but still.
But yeah, Matt totally won this one.
+Papa Toby yes but they should use wood or balistic gel
this shows the many ins and outs of how each sword Smith does their roles the best, i honestly think each of them came out a winner because they have learned from one another when they look back on the footage great job guys it's too bad mat was time limited on a build he was so set on completing to the utmost quality
i would like to see a collab build with caliburn and excalibur while the one you guys did for the fate series was cool. the quality of the build compared to some others done by you guys doesn't come close... Excalibur is a sword known round the world i think it should get a second chance, especially with this new movie around the corner.
chris marlowe II
Sea Moss ehhh?
Sorry guys you all did impressive work but I am going with Matt's Cutlass.
I really liked all their cutlasses tbh. Each of them put their own flair into their blades. I'd be proud to own any of them haha!
Matt for the blade. John for design.
Fernando Pazin exactly
My thoughts exactly. I'd take John's cutlass for a sword exhibition, but Matt's cutlass for a fight.
I agree, but I would give Bill points for the blade control at the end. Specially when considering how he seems less fit but managed good control.
Dead men tell no tales
John's design was Awesome! and matt was brilliant, he uses Damascus ... no steel cant out shine Damascus
Anyone else notice this looks like practice for the next Forged in Fire contestant. :)
It's a sword making show how could it not?
Ilya already won one actually! But ya. I totally thought the same thing.
Illiya won his episode, I'm sure Matt would have no problems if he was on the show either given his innate knowledge of all the blade types they work with, not to mention his attention to detail etc.
i also think someone in the forgery already had one before illiya won his round, but i might be mistaken.
Uhtred's sword from The Last Kingdom!
this. this please
Brandon Gotiangco I'd like to see a book adaptation, not the ugly sword like object from the series.
Brandon Gotiangco just finished the show and loved it please make this possible
Ilya won
Cheater
I would have liked the comment, but it would kill the count
It was 69, now it is 70. You can thank me later.
Haxor
I think the one that was dipped in acid with the patterns on it was the best.
Carol Dunn that Matt's
Leveron Senji that's Matt*
That's Matt's*
Acid? Is oil an acid 😂😂👍
Ohhhh i see 😂😂😂 sry
Egyptian bronze khopesh for the Mummy remake.
or better yet the khopesh and bow from summoner
Tony Miller They can't really do that because there isn't an image for it, or at least what you can see isn't much. Still, sounds awesome
Kaiden Halliwell yea www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bronze-age-craft.com%2Fimages%2Fbudget_khopesh.jpg&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bronze-age-craft.com%2Fswords_for_sale.htm&docid=D3Po8ZuqQO89xM&tbnid=r7qtp4oz5SlsBM%3A&vet=10ahUKEwjZvamo5fLTAhVnqFQKHSrTA6YQMwg0KAAwAA..i&w=592&h=130&client=tablet-android-alco&bih=600&biw=1024&q=khopesh&ved=0ahUKEwjZvamo5fLTAhVnqFQKHSrTA6YQMwg0KAAwAA&iact=mrc&uact=8
shadow Brewer he meant Miller's comment.
Banana Pie they done curved blades before. I'm confident they can pull it off. The metallurgy might be the challenge.
The new Movie of King Arthur features a quite interesting Excalibur with Damascus steel *wink*wink*
They've already done an Excalibur sword...tie in to a pc game
They've actually done two different versions of Excalibur. The game tie in, yes, but before that they made the Fate/Zero version of the sword. So there's really no reason why they couldn't make yet another version of it besides maybe the burn out factor of the fans.
All of those swords are excellent. The Craftsmen working on these works of art, are in the top of their field.
Make please Ciri's swallow sword
Elduren CZ yes
Elduren CZ Both her steel one and the silver one Geralt gives her
Yes
I would also like to see Ciri swallow.
Can't go wrong with more stuff from the Witcher series. :D
The octopus looks badass as hell, but I like rather simple and more practical designs
Still, extremely nice work from all 3,highly creative and very unique. You guys should do more of those challenges
George Sears doesn't he have his own channel, tony?
George Sears Tony's building weapons from World of Warcraft on the World of Warcraft UA-cam Channel. I think it's called Azeroth Armoury. He and the Sword and the Stone crew seem to be doing alright. Brian was on the Zelda Superfan Pool table build
Yeah. Damascus Cutlass looked awesome.
This actually makes me think of Tony. Pretty sure he actually made swords for the original Pirated Of The Caribbean
Thanks for the info, it's a shame that i've missed so much about him)
Just rewatched some old issues of Man at arms and got em out of my head like, for year maybe. And now i have new series to rewatch and not to wait ongoing ones, yay!
Do the Six-Fingered Sword from the Princess Bride! "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die!"
Been asking for that for months now!
Everyone like bg's comment, this must be done
bgdancer100 yes! The six fingered sword!
Brandon George as you wish
7:00 "the tip of the Cutlass blade is overheated, so he uses the novel technique of blowing at it to cool it off"
Lolz
good job on the narration Ilya :D
Arne Mortensen Great job indeed ...
Although I have the feeling that if he did a cutlass of his own, his would be the best ...
+nigelft
That's why he recused himself. Challenging Ilya to a swordmaking contest would be like challenging God to a planet-building contest.
Mate's sword cut better. but design goes to the octopus sword.
I would like to see you guys making Legolas white knives and his bow from THE Hobbit.
But, it's also the kind of thing that gets stolen from you in a bar and/or makes you easier to spot as a target for enemy guns.
Yes, that's a great idea!!!
TechNo GOD I agree the octopus sword has great attention to detail yet mats was the most accurate and I think best looking
Make Iris Olgierd's sword from the Witcher 3 Heart of Stone
I want them to do Aerondight from witcher 3 or Zireael
Iris looks cooler than Aerondight. A bunch of the Witcher swords look cooler than Aerondight. Iris is obviously a bad ass Messer and is prob my fav along with the Winter Blade Crach gives you. Those 2 LOOK the coolest.
Matt you are the best Sir.
Shovel blade from Shovel Knight. PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah ! It's always swords and katanas ! The Shovel Knight's Shovel'll be nice !
Renee Hunt yes! Shovel knights Shovel would be awesome AF
yesssss
What wood did Bil use ? That blue color was nice.
Stabilized wood
una cafonata proprio
1.Matt
2. John
3. Bill
Mat was mainly the only one who did anything, bill just took ready built stuff
KILLER GAMER And then John just cut his stuff from the cnc plasma.
I know everyone else either took ready made stuff or as you said plasma cutted every thing
Bill's handle looked awesome tho and he made that himself
If you fused matt and johns blades it would be amazing
@@latonpfeiferhicks768 the guard, handle, and pommel of John's, with the blade of Matt's.
Cutlasses are some of the most prestigious swords out. And have always been a luxurious sword. So I'm confused
That would be officer's sabres, not cutlasses.
+manufacturedfracture
Will Turner would have been proud.
hehehehe nice one
Matts wins hands down! He’s a pirate Sorry guys ✌️💚🤘
Spartan general helmet, spear and shield
Sam Bryant and underwear :P
Chaoseater from Darksiders .
i know there are many of it out there but i want to see a real one from wood and metal
Matt's was the best!!!!
Never in my life have I seen a Damascus pattern that prominent
Matt’s looks more like a pirates cutlass then the other two.
Sword of Aeons or Avo's tear from fable 1!!!!
oh man i've requested this plenty of times but gave up. i really want to see them make those it'd be so cool.
OvAeons yes!
I can't really say. I really liked Bill's handle and John's guard, and watching Matt do his thing with the blade was really cool. I really enjoyed Matt's historical touch, as well as John's hollywood theatricality, plus Bill's skull and crossbones guard was a fun touch. I really liked all the blades and they're all beautiful.
all cutlesses were really good!.
Florian Becker they should make a whole forged Tank XD
Louis Neumayr - ...out of damascus 😜
forged for the win and the hollow grad nice and going back to the og days well played very nicly
You guys should do a steam punk themed competition!!!!!
The craftsmanship on these is INCREDIBLE..... I liked the octopus one the best and the skull and crossbones a very close second.
Nice work guys. 👍👍
Matt won definitely
I would like to see Brisngr from the inheritance saga
Jeff Fish that's would be epic. A sword that bursts into flames at the sound of it's name.
Yeah nah, let's have anything to do with that hack plagiarist Paolini.
Wait he plagiarized? What did he plagiarize?
He didn't...People are just incredibly salty.
Writban Alim His entire setting is Lord of the Rings/Middle Earth with some names changed and he ripped the entire plot of star wars off.
The damascus one
John’s sword was my favorite. The shape of the blade, the octopus guard and the wire-wrapped handle are just all things I like.
Chris Mills i
I favored Matt's but the octopus won me over.
how about the reverse blade from rurouni kenshin
soupfilledsocks yes I've been requesting that forever
thnk mate XD
this!
Just like I've been doing for the past year
I would agree about making the sakabatou but I would prefer Aoshi's twin kodachi the ones he wielded in the Shishio arc.
_…aynd dhey all suck at heat treatin'_
- I lost it xD
i had to do a double take.
I laughed pretty hard at that comment as well.
And to be honest Matt did have the best results of the three in the heat treat stage.
Love the brassing technique! That is just cool as heck.
Ilyas' cutlass won hands down.
Triggered Train Ilya not forging anything
thats the joke
Ilya didn’t forge anything
Electric Legend he doesn’t have to he’s always the best
Triggered Train Matt’s did. It was the best
