    Awesome looking blade! Swords in this style are actually called a gladius and were the main sword of choice for just about all roman soilders from the bottom of the infantry to the top generals. Great stuff as always!

    Beautiful result! I know (or I've heard) that among people "in the know" this type of steel doesn't rank well compared to modern steel alloys, but I've also heard that historically (maybe pre 18th century) wootz was an almost mythical material. I would love to see a fairly rigorous comparison of your wootz blades to a modern equivalent (and historical alloy as well) to see how it ranks it terms of flexibility and holding an edge. Either way though, I love the pattern your get with your wootz process! 👍

    If all the pieces of steel were melted, how come there is a pattern of veins and layers on the sword? Is it because the pieces of steel were melted but not mixed inside the crucible?

    • @lairdcummings9092
      @lairdcummings9092 10 годин тому

      The metal churns on its own inside the crucible, but it doesn't become entirely homogeneous. No effort is made to blend it; thermal processes only.
