Great video and interesting to learn about the mods done so far. The E Venturi intake looks lovely.
My key question is; surely MB has locked the ECU on the gearbox to protect it for longevity. Presumably there is a margin of tolerance built in above the stock power levels. However adding all the extra power must shorten the gearbox life or risk a catastrophic failure.
If the gearbox does fail post mods the unfortunate owner will have to suffer the cost of a new gearbox as the warranty is voided by the modifications. At that point the fun stops.
Problem is these cars command to much money and miss the target market.. so are not as popular as the vags/bmw
And they can’t launch without overheating. They are garbage dude. Everyone knows it.

This. With the exception of the Subaru boxer there is no such thing as a nice 4 pot.
Even a 3 cylinder has more character.

Yeah 4 potters are alway regarded as very generic while inclined 5&6,v8sv10s and especially v12s mote exotic but there has been some great 4 cylinder engines alpha romeo made some great sounding fours
Great job again , informative as always , being a fellow owner of a 45s I find the gearbox kind of ok and came from a facelift rs3, the only issues I seem to have is what you touched upon in the video and that is when driving on manual you can soon hit the rev limiter with the quickness of the revs , looking forward to more videos keep up the good work 👍🏼👍🏼👏🏻👏🏻

When you have 420 hp and 4WD on a compact hatchback like this there is no reason whatsoever to 'upgrade' it in any way. Enjoy what the factory made and leave it be. If you want to be quicker, take a track driving course instead of modifying the car.
you're right. take a track driving course to assist in straight line acceleration. makes perfect sense.
9:00 I did the total opposite, I went from a 4wd A45 to a high power V8 rear wheel drive and people said the opposite like "the 4 wheel drive was so much better than RWD" so you'll always get both sides

Got rid of my stage 2 CLA45 after 1 year as found it numb to drive and the auto braking whenever someone crossed lane in front drove me insane. Change to M2 comp which is now stage 2 and far more engaging car. Definitely keeps you on your toes but may be too twitchy for good use in damp UK roads. I’m in Australia.
You're right about the difficulty in getting upgrade parts, but if you look around you can find them. Now I have upgraded the turbo to a MachGrade (the only one I could find for the A45S) and the improvements are being limited as you say. But my understanding is that replacing the CPC will fix the problem, and CPCs are available for the A45S, from Weistec for example. I'm going to have it done next week (I'm in Australia). Meanwhile for brake pads I'm using Endless ME22 - which I have to get sent out from England! For the previous model A45, it was all so easy.
Be careful with turbo upgrade, my friend blew his motor up and spent the money ‘on the right parts’.
@@Opographer Yes I know what you mean, but that's the risk when you start doing modifications. I blew up the original turbo, and when Mercedes refused to replace it under warranty (because of the other mod
ifications) I decided to try the upgraded turbo. So far so good, but don't know what will happen when we exchange the CPC. Do you know exactly what part of the engine your friend blew up?

@@speeddemon311 The car had done about 35,000 kms before I did a stage 2 on it and used it mainly for the track. So then it was only another 2,000kms, but mostly flat out. Maybe 20 track days.
i've found the more mileage i've put on this (on my a45s) the more it's opening up, it's popping and crackling more, feels like more power and learning the sweet spots helps too. it's great on the 1/4 mile, and i'm sure it's great to track. having only tracked it once, i'm not use to tracking, i know there is a lot more in it than my full potential as a driver this car offers stock ootb. it's super fun for sure and i don't know why i hear the comments from you that others in your circle say that it's boring. it certainly is not, though from mod pov this might be the case for now

saying a blanket statement like that about hp is silly. it depends on the car it's in. these amgs are heavy awd cars. to do impressive acceleration numbers from higher speeds, it needs a lot of hp.

Had mine two years, sold it and now have a new RS3 - so much better in so many ways.
I sold my A45S and got myself a TTRS. And I agree it is so much better. Merc has a luxurious interior and that is about it. Buy a full on luxury car if that is what you want, but I want a fun car and A45S doesn't cut it for me. Sound in the 5 cylinder is night and day compared to the A45s too. I have not even mentioned power potential.
Decided on a RS3 as well between the two cars! Just got my allocation a few weeks ago!

I recently sold mine and my biggest gripe with the car (other than sound) is the fact the gearbox was unbelievably jerky. I could not drive in comfort mode without constantly feeling like the box is bouncing me forward and back
Most Mercedes gearboxes are adaptive, they learn how they are driven & adapt to that style.
A gearbox reset probably would of fixed this.

I enjoy driving it in sports+ having it set every time, and in manual mode sometimes when i'm digging it. rarely have driven in comfort mode

How do you compare this to a stage 3 mk7 golf r ? In terms of outright performance and raw feeling on the road
Looking forward to seeing the content. I've got an A45s, its a fantastic, I've had it new since Mar 2021. The problems ive had are low coolant (twice) and squealing brakes - they changed the pads, apparently its really common. They've got a different part number for the new pads. Not too bad for just over 2 years. I like mine so much, im going to buy another, I'll be ordering it in September, for March delivery. Ive got mine in 'Digital White' - it looks so good (when clean)..... its not too shabby when shes filthy. Im undecided yet as to what colour im going to choose. I quite like it in 'Rose Gold', or will it look like an hairdressers car? (If you've not seen the colour, it is on the Mercedes configurator). I don't want back paint - its too hard to keep it clean, dark blue you can see the swirls in the paint, or any dark colour you can, Mat Magno...no chance, I'd be too scared to take it out and it would have to be PPF'd to protect it. so it looks like 'Rose Gold' or a light silver. Any feedback from the chat would be really appreciated. Great channel. Thanks.

I’m on my 2nd A45s 2nd one has coolant sensor issue they’ve had it a month now gutted.
Had digital white loved it but found it hard to keep clean

Very, very few Mercedes ever see a track - that's why there aren't many performance mods for them
We have the GLA 45 which I believe is the equivalent to your A45s. I have ran in to the same frustration. No tune yet. We have a armytrix cat back in the mail headed our way to the states. In California we can’t mess with our cats or downpipes. This is a great channel. Will be following closely.
In the UK you can't really mess with down pipes either unless it's a track only car, you need a sports cat for the road and if the car had a GPF fitted it should stay on the car to be legal. The Police are increasingly cracking down on decats and exhaust mods and will seize the car as it's not classed as roadworthy and therefore has no insurance. In the UK there is an MOT roadworthyness test for vehicles once they hit 3 years old including emmissions.
The other possible issue with Police and exhausts now are so called noise cameras which have been trialled, and set for rolling out in more ares, if it's over the set dB it triggers the camera and a ticket or worse is heading your way.
My A45 is just fitted with the stock AMG sports exhaust, I may put a system on it in the future but no messing with the downpipe and cat
@@bat33.12 so our Armyrix cat back came an was installed. The car is amazing now. It expensive but makes the car so insane. Ya a tune would be great but who knows when that is coming out. It’s loud but not as loud as when I tuned my GT3 or my Audi R8. My kid is loving his car.

So here’s a question for you or anyone reading this. Are the ECU’s being hacked/unlocked by the tuning companies themselves with in house developers, or are there 3rd party companies/people that are just dedicated to hacking and unlocking them?
Like for the Mk8 Golf platform, was it one company that finally cracked the code, then they could sell this on to tuners that we’re willing to pay?
Tuning Companies actually don't do the development of the unlocker, it's usually people that sell the Tuning Softwares (or hardware) like bFlash, ECUTek, etc. You're completely right, it's usually one person who cracks the CBOOT/SBOOT of the ECU and then sells it to companies. Although it does happen that sometimes that they find the same exploit, but some companies wait until the first company has released their exploit, then proceed to sniff it out and implement it in their own system. It's rather not that hard to write a tool for it to flash the ECU once you have unlocked CBOOT/SBOOT which is the bootloader of the ECU.

If I’m being honest,”everything will do into full develop mode” won’t happen for the a45…it’s just not a car a lot of people drive…the price range of them for even a used car doesn’t compete with its competitors,thus making it not a car with a large market,and a smaller market willing to modify their car

Re your comment about the differences with regard fun in the m140i and the a45s, coming from a m140i to a new m135i xdrive.
Your filming in wet/damp conditions which we no living in the UK happens a lot, the m140i in those conditions is limited and frankly scary the a45s on the other hand as you know is still able to push on.

I've just had the standard system modified on my AMG A45S.
The difference is mental and yet everything on the exhaust remains stock.
It's done by having the exhaust cut open at the rear box and centre box and some tweaks done inside. But the result is a much louder sound, with louder pops / bangs on the gear changes and when you let off the power.
Best of all it only cost me £340.

Nice cars. But was at the Ring recently on a 4 day track course of the Nordschliefe and I had my VW 2016 Clubsport S and a mate had one of these. Honestly, no matter how much he tried(and I promise you he did) he couldn't live with the CS there. It was just too heavy and unwieldy around there, with everything heating up and slowing him down...But on the road still a good car..
Same applies for the Golf R…can’t keep up with the CS on a track

I'd absolutely love one of these, a stunning car. But I'd only ever get one if you could get it in fully manual - yes, a clutch pedal and gear shift lever. For that reason I will stick to the Focus RS, sure it's not as quick as a Merc but it is still pretty rapid and most importantly, it is super fun to drive. I just cannot do automatics and semi-autos - I drove a Golf R for a while (not mine) and although it was a great car I was bored to tears driving it.

I don't think these cars are boring at all, I just think that bmw m135i, and m140i just sound amazing with that 3.0 engine and the fact that they're rwd, are just a riot, but BMW flopped because like for like in terms of age of cars like merc killed it with this a45s and so did Audi with the rs3... bmw however biggest fail ever from 3.0 to that 2.0
It’s good to see you’re trying to tune this car. The fact that it’s rare makes it more interesting even though challenging. All the VAG products are too common and boring and not unique. The M139 engine alone in the new C63S makes more power and torque than in the A. I wished they put that in the latest facelifted A45S.

M139 has more space in the C63 as it's mounted longitudinally so has a bigger turbo hence the extra 40bhp or so but I've recently seen reports in Germany that sales of the new C63 are tiny since the mighty V8 was canned

This car and the GTR are both my dream cars. I will have the money to buy the A45 soon but the A45s looks amazing but i get scared £40k on a car makes me feel sick, you only live once I had a E46 M3 but had to sell it as needed a 4 door car as got a baby now. Miss the speed when driving by myself. Any advice before splashing the cash? What to look out for ?

I don't personally see a problem with this - its a dual clutch auto, and the transmission needs to be strong enough to handle 'all' kinds of driving from every day people not just enthusiasts wanting to thrash it 24/7. If you want better access , go get a manual in a different car that's more modifiable in my opinion. Any reasonable human being would be happy with this car. The car was made to be driven, not made to be modified. Just my two cents.

Look into china for all the missing upgrades... i am a westener who owns an A35L AMG living in china (where the A class was originally designed for) and the amount of stuff available here both to purchase and be done is amazing!

As explained, locked gearbox , locked torque limits puts the engine and gearbox somewhat out of sync and anyone who has owned a tuned box will tell you the difference when things are in harmony.
@@NelsonSakwaas he explained he said even stock it’s not great which is completely a lie it’s amazing stock, 420bhp 500nm of torque is enough for a car, he knew the the gearbox from the start was locked but still went on to map it knowing the gearbox won’t be the best he can’t complain about the way he is doing

I used to have a 69 plate A35 it was the biggest pile of shite I’d ever bought, in the 20 months I had it the Mercedes dealer (which was sytner) had it back for 5 months fixing faults and problems and it was still never fixed to my satisfaction, couldn’t wait to get rid of it, dealer said they would buy it back for 30k which I refused and then I sold it to a specialist performance used dealer for 33k, and now I have bought myself a Hyundai Kona N, a much better car with an impeccable build quality and a better warranty, Mercedes Benz are nowhere near to what they used to be, everything is built to a price and stuff the quality.
I had similar problems with my A35 bought from brand new serviced by merc still had nothing but issues in the end the diff went after 18 months!!!! S3 is a far better car cheaper aswell

No offense but what you're portraying as issues really sounds like "sweet problems" to me. I mean, 500HP is way more then enough for anything, no? If you want a rocket ship for tuning get either RS3 or a 6cyl BMW or something similar.
Brand new M2 will be a much better UA-cam car with massive tuning potential.....

i think what you have done so far without been able to map the gearbox ur putting a lot of stress and strain on the gearbox and that can only end one trust me i had a gold i got it mapped without mapping the gearbox and it started doing what ur AMG is doing and it ended badly cost me a lot of money.

Having the car myself I do agree with you, it's an expensive car compared to the competitors so people would just get the others and tune them for the same price.
All new cars getting expensive, 46k for a civic type R and nearly 50k for a golf R, makes this and the other hyperhatches appear more reasonable 🤷
Audi rs7 is classed as a hatchback. I think thats worth 50k, pretty decent all rounders not very fast but look and sound decent
I disagree I have a 23 a45s and the gearbox is up their better than the Audi/golf and would rate it slightly below Porsche PDK. People have the gearbox unlocked it's just the UK market is dry for this. For example renntech and other companies abroad have it tuned to 630bhp.

I drove this side by side and I thought the gearbox was too clunky and aggressive, not smooth at all even in comfort mode. Much prefer the vag offering 🤷

Sorry but cannot see how, the RS market is above this, the RS sounds fake and compared to the amg. There will be a way and someone out there that will do it, just because one is popular doesn't mean its impossible. I've had A45s and it's a different realm of fun, RS audi is too fake and too gadgety you're not in anyway getting the same driving experience as a A45s.
There will be a way and the market although limitless.. for now

It’s a lovely car and nicer than the VW offerings ( I’ve had 2 golf Rs) . Silly money here in Ireland nearly 100k euros . So I bought a model 3 performance half the money .
